Ok, so it might be considered a tad strange to review your OBGYN. Talking about your doctor, especially your Gynecologist, is considered private subject matter for some women. It's like the Seinfeld episode when Jerry asks a few women who their personal doctor is and gets slapped in the face. That's kinda how I feel about writing this in public domain but then again, a quality doctor is so hard to find. How else will you know if they're good unless the patient reviews?? I discovered Dr. Gershowitz by way of my Uncle. I know strange but my Uncle worked for Montefiore Medical Center for almost 25 years so when it came to doctors he always had the best resources. I've been going to Dr. Gershowitz for a few years now and after some pretty crappy OBGYN experiences, she is the best. Nice bedside manner and gets down to business. Prepares and explains everything she is going to do. Is thorough in her questioning and seems genuinely concerned about her patients well being. She will always give her honest opinion as a doctor, not as someone promoting a medication. Things to know: -The office line is usually busy. Keep trying. - Expect for it to be hard to get an appointment. When you call be prepared that your appointment may be scheduled weeks or even months in advance. -They don't take debit or credit card payments under $20 so if your co-pay is less, bring cash. -Dr. Gershowitz is perpetually late and sometimes disappears after your appointment even if she wants to talk to you. Be patient, schedule at least 60-90 minutes in your own calendar for your visit. Another secret tip, Dr. Gershowitz is quite liberal with BC samples. A nice plus. read more

I used to love this doctor, but lately it's just not the same. The receptionists are rude, unfriendly, and uncaring. And Dr. Gershowitz used to be very warm and seemed to care about your problems, but I went in a few months ago concerned about a potential STD and she brushed off my concerns saying my symptoms were "most likely" a result of my birth control. I insisted on being tested anyway, and luckily although they did come back negative for STDs, I did have a bacterial infection that would have gotten worse if I didn't treat it. It just frustrates me that my doctor, who has supposedly been in this field for a long time, would downplay legitimate concerns and symptoms. I felt like she was in such a rush to see other patients that my concerns were being treated like I just wanted attention. Then when I called for a follow-up appointment, I was told the next available was over 2 months away. Maybe this is just a NYC thing, but it's totally ridiculous to me that someone should have to wait TWO MONTHS to take care of their health. It's great she's so popular, but maybe she should limit taking new patients so she can actually take care of the ones she already has. _____ The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars, and not 1 (nevermind), is because my actual well-woman appointment went fine. Otherwise, this place is the epitome of awful customer service. I did my homework on Dr. Gershowitz before making an appointment. I googled her, found these Yelp Reviews, and made sure the consensus was positive. The last negative review was from over a year ago, so I wasn't concerned. I guess you should trust your gut, and Yelp Reviews, no matter their date. First, I requested a birth control that I had done research on and wanted to try. Dr. Gershowitz told me that my insurance probably wouldn't cover it, but I should go on Loestrin Fe Lo. I conceded, because she is the doctor. After doing my research on her recommended bc I quickly became nervous. The online reviews were dismal and the pharmaceutical company recently stopped making the brand and released a generic, which lots of women were complaining about online. There was even a Reddit article started about it four months prior. I called my insurance and found out that indeed, not only did they cover it, but my copay was $0 for the bc that I originally requested. I called the office, and they quickly called it into my pharmacy. That was awesome. The kicker is here. Two weeks after my appointment I get a bill from a lab in Jersey for $41. I knew that I shouldn't have been billed because this is a well-woman exam. I called the Lab, my insurance company, and the doctor's office. All signs pointed to Dr. Gershowitz's team billing the appointment wrong. The receptionist who I spoke to at Dr. G's office was so emphatically RUDE, that I actually called her out at one point, in a calm voice, asking her why she was angry with me. She stopped herself, but the attitude still remained. She told me that they have been doing this for a very long time, and frankly, my insurance company was lying to me. Rather than be helpful to me, she was defensive and combative. I was required to fax over the bill so they could call the company to re-do the billing code, which should have been V70.0. She said they had NEVER used that code before. That means that they have been billing people wrong for a very long time. Through this entire process I was also asking them to give me the results from my exam. I was told numerous times that I would be called back. I never was. Today, one week later, I called the office again to make sure that 1) they received my fax and were taking care of the lab bill and 2) what are my results from the test! I was on hold, literally, for 19 minutes. Five different times receptionists came on the line to check on me and tell me to continue holding. The final time she asked for my cell number to call me back. Want to know the reason why I was on hold for so long? They were waiting for the lab to fax over the results. You know what the tells me? They don't even put my exam results in my file. It should have been an easy look up. My appointment was four weeks ago, and the lab was already billing me for the results. The same results I never received. When she called me back I asked her what the normal protocol is for telling patients their exam results. She said [completely seriously] that they don't call/mail anything if tests are normal. There is not one piece of communication with the patient that their exam results are normal. That blows my mind. I said, well if I want that to happen, can you do that for me? She said "No. We don't do that." I questioned that logic further...what if they weren't normal and something got lost in the paper trail [completely plausible given their current issues with following up] when she proceeded to say that when I come in for my appointment if I tell her that I want my results mailed to me, she said she can do that--completely contradicting herself. Moral of the story--these folks don't know what they are doing and know the last thing about customer service. Save yourself the pain of having to deal with their front desk. The scary thing is they don't think anything they are doing is wrong. This is the way they have done it for years, and clearly Dr. G is OK with that. I will be taking my lady exams somewhere else. She used to be good but became my least favorite doctor in NYC. The average wait time (with an appointment) has regularly become 45-60 minutes. The receptionist must hate her job, I think. She doesn't seem like a happy person. Her attitude aside, she makes a lot of mistakes. She charged the wrong amount when I was in the office so many times and then I get a bill in the mail. It wasn't this way at the beginning but now the doctor was very rushed every time with me. I feel like she's just trying to push me out and is a bit dismissive about my questions. read more

A referral from my roommate and since recommended to many a colleague and friend, Dr. Gershowitz is going to be the hardest door you'll ever get into in NYC. It takes about 4 months to get a check-up appointment, but man, she's worth it. Friendly and straight forward bedside manner and she never rushes your appointment, rather takes time out to properly connect. Additionally, either she or her staff will make time to chat on the phone should you have any immediate concerns. You always know you're in good hands with her. I called two weeks ago and was able to schedule an appointment with Dr. Gershowitz for today. After moving into the city I needed a new gynecologist, as I'd had some medical issues going on with my lady parts. (Namely that my period must be in the Bermuda Triangle, 'cause I haven't had it - or any babies - in a year. So an inexplicable disappearance.) This office is incredible. Everyone - from the front-desk staff to the phlebotomist - is friendly, courteous, and takes the time to actually speak to you. They have patience with their patients. (I'm here all week.) I'm not used to doctors sitting down and talking to me when I'm not in the stirrups, but Dr. Gershowitz did that...twice. She truly takes the time to get to know your history and to explain what she's thinking. Her bedside manner, humor, and gentleness made me so happy that I found her practice. Just an incredible experience going to the gynecologist, which is never something I thought I'd say. read more

Valarie E Absolutely love this Doctor - I have used Dr. G since before I even got married. I had my two children with her, and I still go to her once a year for a check-up. She takes the time to talk to you, she remembers everything about you, she cares about your issues, and if you have an emergency she fits you in and she also calls you back if you need her. I have recommended her to dozens of women friends over the years and everyone has been more then satisfied. Plus the office is warm and friendly, for those of you who do not like the receptionist - GET OVER IT! Yes, as good as it gets is Dr. Judith Gershowitz!! Bedside manner, wonderful!! She is through and very friendly. She performed surgery on me 2 weeks ago and made me feel very comfortable before being put under!!! We were even joking a little bit!! She called me the next day to follow up and i thought that was great!!! Appointments are hard to get but if it is an emergency she will fit you in immediately!!! I don't know how this place doesn't have at least 4 stars. When I went for my first appointment with Dr. Gershowitz in February of 2015, I was a little skeptical because of some of the reviews. The only downside of the practice is that the wait was a bit longer than expected, which wasn't great because I was going on my lunch hour. Once I was with the doctor, however, my experience was awesome! She was quick & helpful. I didn't feel judged whatsoever, which is a nice feeling when you have your feet in stirrups.. Judy was my doctor from my 20's through 43 1/2 when I gave birth to my son. Her practice was professional and she was smart, calm, reassuring and straight forward while keeping me healthy. I think she's a great doctor. Most of these complaints seem to be with the state of medicine today and everywhere. I only left her care when I moved from Manhattan. read more

No I didn't because I can't prove that. and that's petty. Here is what I wrote: As a patient of Dr. Gershowitz for over 5 years, I agree that she is a great doctor. However, over the past few years, I have been continually disappointed after a situation earlier this week I finally decided it was time for a change. First, if you go during "peak" times (early/late appts) you can definitely expect a 45-60 minute wait. I recently found out she books two appointments for most time slots. Given my longstanding relationship, I had always decided to suck it up but I recently had my first issue where a pre-set appointment was not in the near future. I called the office at 9am and was told that the next appointment was in October (it is early July) and that Dr. Gershowitz would call me back and could write a prescription over the phone if needed (which I think is a bit odd). After not hearing by 3pm, I called again and was assured I would hear back between 4:30 and 5:30. After not hearing from her at 5:15, I called again and the office was closed. I called again the following morning at 9am (a little bit angry) and they said my info was on her desk and that I just had to wait. I finally heard from her at 11am, she took my info but the prescription was not called in until after 3pm. I think it is unacceptable to not call back a patient with an ailment for over 24 hours and then to not immediately call in the prescription in. In the case of emergency, she is not the doctor you want to have. It's apparent she has taken on too many patients. read more

Find a different gynecologist. I waited over 40 minutes to see the doctor; she was rushed during my exam and and dismissed my complaints about severe abdominal pain. Then, she tried to sell me on her unsolicited sperm bank recommendations. For the next nine months the office harrassed me with endless bills in the mail eventhough I paid them through my insurance. I even paid the ($25) co-pay twice, second time by check to have proof of payment. I just wanted the mailings and calls to stop yet they continue. Try to find a different doctor, if you can. read more

I've been seeing this doctor for 9 years and am pleased. Yes, you do need to make your annual appointments well in advance, but that's not so hard (I mean, they're annual, so you know they're coming). The wait time is reasonable for a NYC doctor (never more than 10 minutes) and she takes the time to sit down and talk with you, make you feel heard, and address any concerns you may have. I'll stay with Doctor Gershowitz as long as I'm in New York. read more

She is very busy but still takes the time to listen to you. My only con is getting an appointment - it takes awhile because she is so good. read more

I finally found a OBGYN that is good in NYC. I checked out a couple in the tri-state area, and by far this one was the best. There was a little mix up in the spelling of my last name that almost caused me to lose the 4 month appointment I had booked. Luckily the receptionist called me back right away to fix the last name mix up. When I arrived at the front desk to fill out paperwork, there was about 6 other women there sitting in the waiting room. Now I see why the Dr. is so busy! After the quick paperwork, I was waiting in a long hallway for the Dr Gershowitz. She came out of her office and greeted me immediately. She then directed me to her examination room, and I was seen right away by her again. A few quick tests to make sure everything is alright. There was no doubt in my mind that anything was wrong, but I definitely like to get check ups after every partner. Its pretty important especially in NYC! Everything is in perfect standing! WOOT! :) TIP: Expect to wait 3-6 months for an appointment. Don't give one stars because of a receptionist! You are here to see a great gyno... geez girls. :) Oh and HOW IS PAUL H. the MAYOR of a GYNOs office?! HMMM something fishy about that. read more

Dr. Gershowitz is a pro. I have complete trust in her.

If you don't have any health problems and are only looking for a standard annual checkup, Dr. Gershowitz is great. She's friendly, easy to talk to, and her exams are quick. However, if you have any need to contact her outside of your checkup, find someone else. She never returns calls or messages, even when the message concerns a serious health issue, and is generally unavailable for last minute appointments for pressing medical issues. Additionally, her office keeps terrible records - I have filled out paperwork, called, and left messages to change my last name and address numerous times over the last three years, and yet they still have failed to change any of my information, which leads to a mess at the pharmacy because my prescription is called in under the wrong name. Short of standing over them at their computers while I watch them change my information, I'm not sure what else I can do. I do like the doctor, but unfortunately I will need to find someone else. read more

I find it disturbing that a female gyn dr does not accept Medicare patients. She does not want patients older than 65???

I called to make an appointment on the phone because I needed a second opinion on a feminine health issue I have been having. The woman who answered the phone, Greta, was EXTREMELY rude and unfriendly. She said that in order for me to get an appointment, I would have to tell her exactly what is going on over the phone. After having to check her 'cheat sheet' for what the correct dosage was, they proceeded to give me only half of the dosage I needed via a needle to the ass. I now have to go back and get a second shot with the full correct dosage. She didn't even check, I had to look online afterwards to see whether it was correct or not, and call her back to ask her to make sure. They didn't even carry the medicine so I had to run around to four different pharmacies to look for it. On top of all of that, no one told me what the side effects of the meds would be, I've been completely on my own. I truly can't believe how unprofessional my experience there has been. read more

Moved to NYC a few months ago and was in need of a new GYN. Although it was a much longer wait than I expected for an initial appointment (3 months later, yikes), it was definitely worth it. Only a half an hour wait before I was seen by the doctor, paperwork fill out time included. Even though she seems to have a packed schedule I never felt rushed and got in all of the twenty-some questions I had, which all got caring and detailed responses. Lab work and exam done, I will definitely be coming back to Dr. Gershowitz's office when it comes time for a follow up. read more

Ridiculous - the phone is ALWAYS busy, and in the one in a million chance that you do get ahold of the receptionist, she is rude. She does not work weekends, the office opens at 9am, and closes at 3pm Mon-Wed and 1pm Fri. How is a working girl suppose to see the doctor?!?!?!?! read more

Hi Everyone, Guess who I am? I am one of Dr Gershowitz's receptionist. So I really do not even know if I should be doing this. But here I go. She is my Dr. as well as employer. Dr Gershowitz has been around for a while. She is very knowledgeable of OB/GYN and a master of her domain. Yes she sees lots of patients not for money reasons but because she is a damn good Dr. She takes lots of time with her patients in office, home after all the years weekends, nights. Do you think she would have over 10,000 patients. First of all we do not perform any billing functions in house. So sorry first discrepancy in many reviews. We have a sign regarding credit cards but no one ever has cash and we never turn anyone away for this reason. A private company is performing the billing. I am not angry but I do become angry when people are not courteous and take time to handle certain situations themselves. We are all women and our complaints are numerous. We have had a waiting time over the years. Since we now have EMR there is no office waiting time. There is a 2-3 month waiting period for an annual appointment and new patients. But we also have a waiting list that works. So we ask that patients schedule in advance to get whatever time they desire. There is no perfect place. We can not all be satisfied with what hand we are being dealt. We do the best we can. And we get it done.If you wait to see Dr Gershowitz believe me you will not be disappointed. I love her and would reccmmend her to anyone. People are entitled to their reviews. Please make your own decisions. gf read more

I had an appointment to go this morning for a check up as a new patient. I had gotten my period this past saturday and called in advance to let them know and to cancel. I called today to reschedule and I spoke to the rudest front desk ever. She started to yell at me and give me attitude for no reason. I had initally waited 4 months for this appointment. She is now telling me I have to wait another 4. She said I should have come in to do paperwork only, which can easily be done online or via fax. When I expressed my concern to be seen due to a pre-existing condition and due to the fact I have had several biopsies in the past, she said she doesnt care. She also doesnt care who I tell and who I complain to. I happen to work admin in the healthcare industry myself and this was the worst custmoner service I have ever experienced. The doctor may be nice but you have to deal with the front desk majority of the time and I defenitely DO NOT RECOMMEND going here if you want to be given an attitude, yelled at and spoken to like a child. I will be contacting my insurance company for sure to let them know they are making me wait 8 months for an appointment and the fact they dont care about my pre-existing condition, even CANCER! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Gershowitz for many years and I can only praise her. She is extremely professional but yet very friendly and caring. I saw her a few weeks ago for my yearly checkup and she was very caring and didn't rush me in the examining room or when she spoke with me in her office. About 2 weeks after my visit I found something in my right breast and called her office immediately and left a message asking her to call me. The next morning at 8:15am my phone rang and it was Dr. Gershowitz. I asked her to please let me come in and have a look at it and she squeezed me in. This is not the first time that I needed her and she ALWAYS calls back and is concerned. We would like to think that we are her only patients, but of course we are not. I have great respect for her professionalism and also her bedside manner. Also, I have never had a problem with the front desk. Sometimes it's a bit difficult getting through on the telephone but that is to be expected with a busy office. She is the best, and I mean the best!!! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Gershowitz for over 15 years. I have never, ever met another doctor, in any field, who cares more about their patients than Dr. Gershowitz does. When I go in for an appointment, I meet with Dr. Gershowitz first, then have the examination, and then meet with her again in her office, where she takes all the time she needs to explain everything to me and answer any questions I may have. She is the ONLY doctor I have been to in the past 20 years who DOES NOT run in and out of the room for 2 seconds, never to be seen again during. I have not been to Dr. Gershowitz in quite a while because I do not have health insurance. I have been on medication to deal with severe PMS symptoms and any time I need a new prescription, all I do is call Dr. Gershowitz. I called today to see if she could increase my dosage. Again, she took her time on the phone with me, never rushed me or made me feel like I was being an annoyance in her busy day, and she discussed the new dosage and called the prescription into my pharmacy. I haven't had an appointment with her in a year and a half and she still took the time to take care of me. THAT...is what a great doctor does. Anyone who is looking for a caring doctor would be very, very lucky to be able to see Dr. Gershowitz. I am so thankful to still be her patient. read more
