I broke my leg in January and had to leave the house for weeks. she took over and worked with the healthcare agencies to create a schedule for the coverage of my husbands needs, made sure that food and meals were covered, did the banking and paid the other support help and kept me informed while I was in the hospital and rehab. She monitored my husbands sacral patch recommended a better wound care cream for his bed sores and maintained a stock medical supply. Made sure that he got his meds, kept him shaved and clean. Provided social interaction and even brought in takeout food for shared dinning. She has an excellent rapport with clients and patients. Kept my husband mentally stimulated with stories and humor. She bonded with my husband and made him feel that she was there for him and dedicated to his wellbeing over anything else. Her goal in life is to provide the best health care a patient can possibly receive. Her dream is to open her own care facility and provide care that would exceed the existing care facilities that exist now. I could not have had a better care person for my husband. I miss having her service and she worked so hard that I thought she would burn herself out. She is devoted to being a health care angel. I have a Medicare Advantage Ins. coverage for medical insurance. With my current plan I have received help from various PCA (Personal Care Attendant) organizations for approximately 14 years. For various reasons, not only have the companies that are set up by my insurance changed frequently but the PCAs change frequently, within these agencies. Currently I have coverage from a business called Soto Home Care, out of Holyoke, MA. It has been the worst operating business of it's kind that I have been involved with. It is poorly managed and pretty far away from operating 'as a professional business, nevermind as a home care facility for handicapped and elderly' that Ihave had. I understand there is a shortageof people willing to do this work and I understand that since there are other agencies that pay more than Soto Home Care, it's even harder for them to keep enough staff to have full coverage all of the time. But, in the last 2 years, the issue of coverage 100% of the time is a constant problem. And the personnel who you depend on never seem to have mastered their skills in particular positions in over the 2 years...I don't think the owner/boss has a policy and procedure manual(s) for any position in this business. If he does then nobody fallows it!! Too many mistakes in scheduling and in notifying clients of changes or problems, etc. The PCAs are allowed to request time off in less than 24 hours before they are going to be out. They offer 24 hours a day service 7 days a week, including all holidays. A PCA can request any day(s), holidays included, and nothing is denied. Many times the PCA just doesn't show up, and when I call to find out why, and not only don't get an answer, I don't get an apology, an offer to find other coverage, or even a promise to find out why that PCA hasn't shown up...etc. This happened again today. So, I called, the person couldn't answered my questions and I had to ask her to find out if the coverage was due to an emergency or whatever, and pleaded with her to get back to me, whether or not the PCA, already 20 min. late, was going to make it in soon or not. That was @ 9:50am this morning. It's now 11:14am, and I've heard nothing. . I've had enough.

The patient was loud obnoxious and not letting the staff and owner help her. I am absolutely amazed at how calmly the staff was and the owner to talk this patient down and have her continue with her visit. This was a first for me. The office is very spacious, clean, with private rooms and many different types of equipment that I only took pictures of because I myself have never used them. The staff is extremely patient, respectful and go above and beyond for their patients. I have another apt Friday in their Southwick office.

The general approach is very different from PT places where therapists hand you a printout of exercises or leave you on a machine while they work with more than one patient at a time, and where they rush you along if *they* are behind schedule. At Restore, there is a more holistic perspective and individual approach. Practitioners work with one patient at a time. Lifestyle choices and life experience are taken into consideration. And they don't just prescribe exercises, they also do hands-on therapies such as Biosynchronistics. There's an excellent licensed massage therapist available as well (I'm a former LMT and am very discriminating in my assessments). As an older person I appreciate the friendly, respectful attitudes that greet me at Restore, even by the young receptionists. I've also seen plenty of young athletes getting their PT there. I've done PT with the owner, Patricia Young. Patricia has amazing skill with the hands-on work -- sometimes pain literally disappears in a session -- and an upbeat attitude that doesn't cross over into cloying cheeriness. She also has years of experience and an advanced PT degree, so I feel confident in her knowledge and guidance. I also trust that Patricia's PT colleague is very skilled, but I haven't worked with her directly. They even offer classes in Tai Chi and Yoga -- gentle and geared toward balance and flexibility -- on the premises. I've been attending Tai Chi class there for over six months, and am getting stronger and more mindful as a result. The instructor, Susan Moore, is gentle and patient, and since she's the MT and also is a PT assistant, understands each person's strengths and limitations. Susan's emphasis is on imparting the spirit and benefits of Tai Chi, not on perfecting the Tai Chi "form," so even beginners feel unintimidated. I can say without reservation that PT, massage, and Tai Chi at Restore have changed my life for the better. Highly recommended.
