I recently took a few clothes that needed reparations. Judy made an amazing work adjusting the size for me and fixing holes in two of my favorite shirts. Also, I appreciated her honesty enormously when she advised not to repair a piece of cloth that was not worth it. Her shop is now in West Seattle, but looks just as fit as it did in Fremont. If I didn't need a reliable tailor who was honest, on time and did quality work I would choose Judy. I called months in advanced for a minor wedding dress alteration and made an appointment with Judy. So far so good. The first appointment rolls around, I show up and she's surprised to see me. No big deal, the fitting went fine and sometimes I forget things too. We do the fitting and set an appointment for the second fitting for about a month out. Still gravy. Second appointment rolls around. Again, she's surprised to see me. She searches around and pulls out my dress that she HASN'T STARTED. Then proceeded to make a lot of excuses about her sick grandkid and never apologised. Also starts complaining about another bride who has had 5 fittings. Tacky and unprofessional. I'm frantic at this point and try to call other alteration places, but they're booked and I'm SOL. I reminded her of what we agreed on and that the dress was supposed to be finished in a week. She refits me just as the first meeting and promises to be done in a week. Lumpy gravy at this point. Third appointment and she's finally not surprised and actually worked on my dress. She's talking herself up a storm about the great work she did. (took in the cups and hemmed the dress that was tulle-aka cut with scissors. I guess that's worth bragging about?) Dress fits, I'm annoyed but that's life and I want to leave with my dress. Now there fun part, she wants to charge more than double her first estimate because she said it was "harder and rush job". Jaw on the floor. I explained to her that it was her fault it was a rush job. She had a ton of heads up from when I made the appointment and over a month after our first fitting. And was proud of my non-confrontational self for sticking up for myself and did not do that. Burnt heavy covered in poo at this point. As for the quality, the cup alteration was fine. The hem has a hack job. Jagged and she claimed it was "so hard" to do. It's tulle so luckily that hides well and no one noticed. But lady, stop the BS and excuses. TLDR; Are you looking for someone who is unreliable, disorganized, poorly skilled (I'm assuming this since she talked herself up so much when it came to simply cutting tulle), unable to adhere to timelines, and makes all the excuses ever? in the end, Judy did a fantastic job relining and replacing one pocket in my leather coat plus hemming two pairs of pants. However, getting to that point was a pure customer service nightmare. I don't live in Fremont, but since Judy advertises that she works on leather, and none of the other shops I talked to would touch it, I figured driving across town on a couple of my days off would be worth it. So, I called her on a Friday and asked if she would be open the next day. "Yes, until 6:00" she said. So I arrive at 4:00 and discover on Saturdays she actually closes at 2:00. Okay, so that was an honest mistake and I didn't hold it against her. The next Saturday I showed up with my coat and a pair of pants. After she finished with another customer, she did my measurements and told me to come back in two weeks. Two weeks later I came back, also bringing another pair of pants. I didn't need to take them to Fremont, but rather than have clothes being altered at two different places at the same time, I figured I'd give all the work to Judy. Unfortunately, my first order wasn't ready. She'd taken the lining out of my coat and cut the new one, but hadn't sewn it in yet. She hadn't hemmed the first pair of pants either, but to make amends she did them right in front of me and I took them home. So the next Saturday I drive up there again. I get my coat and my second pair of pants. They look great and I'm willing to forgive the hassles to this point. But then I get home and put the coat on. Not only had Judy not replaced the pocket as we'd discussed, she'd taken it halfway out and then stopped, leaving it hanging by one side. I called her back and explained the situation. She apologized profusely, and we agreed I'd drive back to Fremont the following Saturday. So, the following Saturday i drive back to Fremont. Again. I walk in the door and Judy apologizes. Again. Then she says "I'm so glad you came back because I forgot to charge you for your second pair of pants." Let's hear that one more time: "I'm so glad you came back because I forgot to charge you for your second pair of pants." This bad review could have been entirely avoided if Judy hadn't said that, but it's too late now. I left my jacket and went to do the other things I had to do that day. She called me maybe half an hour later saying the coat was ready. I told her I didn't think I could be back until after 2:00 and she said that would be okay because she was working late. I called about 2:15 and told her I'd be there in 15 minutes. I arrived and got the coat, then she showed me the bill which said I owed her almost $22.00 for hemming the second pair of pants. She only takes cash or checks, and I only had a $20.00 bill on me, but she agreed to take that. I watched her hem the first pair of pants in front of me. I know that including measuring the whole process takes her about 15 minutes. I know how business works, and I'm not going to begrudge her a rate of $1.33 a minute. But after all the hassle I'd gone through to give her my business, I was pretty insulted that she didn't just give me the second pair of pants she'd originally forgotten to charge me for. Not having my coat ready when she said it would be ready is reason enough to comp the pants, but then making me pay for them when I made two special trips back so she could fix her mistake in forgetting to finish the job was beyond the pale. The work Judy did is great. However the bad taste dealing with her left in my mouth won't go away. For $220.00 I don't expect to be nickled and dimed like that. I'll probably go to Adam Tailor in the ID next time and just stay away from Judy. read more

Doña Judy is quite simply the very best person in town when it comes to repairing leather clothes. She has done two leather jackets for me. In one case, she fixed a 20+ year old bomber jacket by repairing some seams, rebuilding pockets, partially restoring the lining. I wouldn't say she left it like new, because that would be a bad thing. I've worn it for 2 years with no problems. More recently, she made a new lining for my other leather jacket. Her attention to detail was quite simply extraordinary: she even affixed the old label back. Until I found Judy, after a bad experience with a certain other place, I when anything leather needed repair, I would take it out of town. Besides the quality of the work, Judy is simply a pleasure to deal with. read more

I found Judy by searching for 'leather repair tailor' and she seems to be the only area expert. I have a vintage leather coat with wool as a liner - the kind you'd wear in Aspen in the 80s, wandering through the snow. I love it - though Seattle rarely got cold enough to wear it this year. It had worn a hole in the shoulder, about the size of a silver dollar. Judy said she could fix it, but it wouldn't be impossible to cover without some stitches showing. I didn't care, I just wanted the hole sewn up so I could wear it. She did it and it came out better than I expected. For $43 I have my beautiful, worth more than I could imagine, vintage coat back - and I just hope I get to wear it again next season when it gets COLD. read more

After a friend's recommendation, I paid $50 to have a torn pair of pants and another torn pair of shorts mended. Both required patches and I asked specifically for the seamstress to make the fixes strong. In both cases the garment ripped within an hour of normal wear, and the next seamster I went to showed me how tiny the patches were, barely sewed into frayed material. read more

If I had paid attention to the reviews before taking the time to go to the shop, I might have anticipated Judy's level of rudeness and lack of customer service. I brought in a small leather purse with the hope of getting a strap replaced, but she cut me off with a sharp, "No," before I even finished asking whether she could perform the service. Surprised by her brusqueness (and inability to perform what seems a simple repair given that she advertises her business as specializing in leather), I nevertheless tried to enquire whether she could offer an estimate on hemming a skirt. She interrupted both times to tell me, "No," and from her tone seemed to just want me out of her shop. I thanked her for her time and headed for the door, and she shouted after me to take her business card. I have no why she thought I might ever come back, having received nothing but rudeness and unhelpful, monosyllabic responses. I definitely will not. read more

2.5 stars. Not really that impressed... I took my favorite leather bag in to get a tear fixed and she hardly took the time to match thread colors. It's stitched shut, but doesn't really strike me as something too difficult to do or that a leather specialist would be uniquely qualified for. I have gone to Judy's for several alterations and she has done a great job every time. The first time I went in I was a little hesitant because I had bought an expensive designer coat and the sleeves were too long. But she did a great job and the sleeves are now the perfect length. This involved moving a decorative belt in the cuff, which she did without problem. I also took in my husband's leather jacket to be touched up because some of the leather had discolored. Later, I took in a pair of cycling tights that had a hole in them and needed to be patched. I also need some weird cuff buttons sewn back onto a blouse I have. Everything was done well and in a timely manner. Bottom lines: *She will do any fabric alteration, not just leather. *She does not take credit cards, so be prepared to pay in cash or write a check. *It's true that parking here is not easy. There is a pay lot that you can use, or you can look for parking on the street. Almost every time I've gone I have walked there. read more

Judy is such a wonderful woman! I took her a leather jacket with zippered cuffs that I never imagined could have the sleeves shortened and she says she can, and after being royally screwed by another tailor downtown, she totally helped me by shortening the sleeves of my suit jacket before having to fly out for a wedding. She was ALWAYS respectful and so friendly to me. She started as a fashion designer in her native country of Columbia and after moving the the US, her professor told her that the way to make money is through alterations and this is what she loves. If you have a garment that you want adjusted, I cannot recommend a better tailor across the entire country. For real. And to respond to the claims that her prices are too high, I COMPLETELY DISAGREE! You get what you pay for. If you want patient compassionate work, then you might want to be willing to pay more then sweat shop prices... read more

I can't rave enough about Judy! I purchased a pair of custom leather pants through a company on the internet - sending them my exact measurements. When they arrived, they were way too big and did not fit at all. I took them to Judy and she altered them to perfection! It was not an easy project but Judy took it on and delivered to me a perfectly tailored pair of pants. I will always use Judy for leather alterations in the future! After being a long-term customer of Judy, I feel I can offer a realistic appraisal of her services. First, the positive: She is a whiz with alterations, and can tackle the most challenging requests. I have taken her various expensive fabrics, and her work is impeccable. I've also brought her worn sweaters with holes that she masterfully patches so you can barely see. I've asked her to fix the same pencil skirt three times (no fault of hers; I have a habit of ripping them when I step out of taxis). Each time she examines the item, and sees what she can do. And when she can't do anything, she's honest and tells me it's not worth it, and that's it's time has come. Now, the downside, and not all of this is really negative (more to know what to expect): She sometimes has odd hours (a note on the door saying she's gone on vacation for two weeks). And the turn around is not quick: often two to three weeks. She's expensive. I think it's worth it, particularly if you really love the item, are particular about your clothes, or have paid a lot of money for it. I wouldn't take my lesser, easier things (like simple hemming) to Judy. I can give that to the cleaners; it doesn't require someone of Judy's skill level. As others pointed out, it's true she only takes cash or check so best to know that in advance. The bottom line is if you want tailoring that is very high quality, I would recommend Judy above and beyond anyone else. read more

this was THE worst experience i have ever had as a customer/client. she quoted me at one price and tried to charge me $40 more after because SHE MADE MORE WORK FOR HERSELF that was completely unnecessary. i went in to have my bridesmaid dress let out and taken up from the bottom. there were 2 weeks in between my initial drop off and when i returned. and return to her office to find the dress unaltered which then she preceded to harshly accuse me of gaining MORE weight telling me how it was stupid of me to order a dress 2 sizes too small and as i left she suggested to me to not eat until the next time i have to come back (all in front of another client). when i finally returned days later she took too much OUT, then i had to come back for my final fitting the day of my flight and guess what?!? she took it in too much, once again leaving the dress too tight. for someone who runs a business that is supposed to cater to adjusting articles of clothing for EVERY DIFFERENT BODY type she really does not know how to speak with her clients nor complete something in a timely manner. i will never return to her nor would i ever suggest someone in the direction of her business. read more

sexy Gucci top that just looks droopy? want to keep the original hem on those killer shi-shi jeans? your leather pants have a trick zipper or [eek!] a tear? not to worry, Judy will make you look maahvelous. went to her for years before we moved to stumptown. she's altered everything from jeans, to suits (took in the shoulders, sleeves & back of one of the hubby's jackets & it looks custom tailored, which it now is!), crazy hemline from a Dries Van Noten bustle skirt, and my Costume National leather pants & it all looks fabulous. the cat is out of the bag tho, so if you need something altered, bring it in as soon as you can altho she's pretty accommodating if you're in dire straits. i only bring my trickier alterations to her because she is more expensive ($20 for hemming your jeans with the original hem) but you get what you pay for. parking can be a pain even if you have a Mini as it's in the heart of Fremont but it you don't mind schlepping your clothes around you can usually find something eastish or uphill on Fremont Ave. or if you're there at lunchtime pop into the 35th St Bistro for some frites--if you beg nicely maybe they'll bring the moules et frites back. i may have to mail some of my clothes with my measurements if i can't find her doppelganger down here in pdx.... read more

Judy did a great job with the alterations, but it was quite expensive. I needed a bridesmaid dress altered and I originally took it to Nordstroms and they said it would cost about $170 since the dress wasn't bought there and Nordstrom's told me that I can find a cheaper place. Turns out Judy charged me $160, so not much of an improvement. She did a great job but I feel like I could have found equal service for much cheaper if I had the time to shop around. read more

I brought Judy an expensive, new dress from Anthropologie that needed a repair on the zipper. While in her shop, I asked her THREE times if I could please try the dress on for her so she could see what the problem was. Her response: No, I am too busy and I know what is wrong. It just needs a top stitch. I've been a seamstress making my own clothes for 8 years and knew that putting a top stitch on the dress would not work, but she would not allow me to explain. The reason I dropped of the dress is because I was going on vacation that week and needed the dress to be done while I was gone for a wedding the following weekend, I simply wouldn't have the time. When I picked the dress up she was leaving again for the day and was on a personal phone call, not allowing me the option to try the dress on before I paid for it. I went home and not surprisingly the zipper still did not work. Had she let me try it on for her, like I asked three times while in her shop the first time, she would have seen that a top stitch would not work. I ended up stitching the zipper myself. As a paying customer, I did not feel that she listened to me or let me explain the issues I was having with the dress. The end result was my dress being returned in the near same exact state I had dropped it off in. I will not be back. read more

Judy did a great job putting a new, sturdy zipper in my motorcycle race leathers. The leather is very thick and stiff and I'm sure it wasn't easy to manage. Judy was polite and easy to work with. She was also very upfront about her cash/check only policy and turnaround time for completion. Workmanship was perfect - you can't tell it was a repair, it looks original. Judy also mended a couple of seams that were beginning to come apart - these I hadn't asked to be repaired, she just fixed them anyway - no charge! That was very cool. I think her rates are probably on the high end but I'm not an expert on this so I am not sure - If feel you get what you pay for and I was certainly pleased with the service and feel I got a good value. I bought an amazing leather vest recently and the first thing I do is rip it :( I was away on vacation and wanted to bring it in as soon as i got back so i emailed her first to see if she had time. I have had Judy do many projects for me. They have been excellent and reasonable. They fit beautifully and exquisitely tailored. Cannot tell they were altered. She has done several leather jackets--down sizing and repair. She is shy and very in demand. So do not take her hesitation as rudeness. It is cultural perhaps also. Do make an appt. Judy lives pretty close to me but I hadnt used her until I was recommended by a dry cleaner who didnt do detailed alterations. I needed some sequins sewn onto a friends dress that I borrowed and the sequins are so small and the pattern was very detailed. She only quoted me $40 for this, which I thought was way reasonable for such work. I bought the sequins at michaels and she recommended fusion beads right here in wallingford for the other stitching needed. She was always super friendly each time I went in, and each time I kept bringing more things in for her to fix! She actually fixed a sweater that had a big hole under the back shoulder... amazing! She is quite busy since she gets so much business, so the wait time is usually about 2 weeks. Even then you should call ahead to make sure it's ready because I dont remember her giving an exact pickup date, she just says about 2 weeks. I think its her daughter who is usually there helping and she has the cutest grandbaby who sits there patiently watching them work. Overall I thought Judy was awesome and I'd highly recommend others to go there. read more

I went in once to get my whole Louis Vuitton suit tailored. When she was working on my suit, she cut most of it off!!! It looked real crooked and ugly when i tried it on. I'm shocked at what this business just did to me. I brought in a $450 Leather Riding jacket to have the zipper repaired. I paid in advance and she said she was busy and it would take a month or so to fix and that she would call me when it was done. Well, she never called and since I didn't need it I forgot it was even there. It's been several months and I just came across the receipt so I went down to pick it up and she told me she doesn't have it! I say, "What?" And she said she donates lots of things and it must have been donated! Then I ask why she never called to tell me the jacket was done and she said that "I don't call." What!!!! Then why is my number listed on the receipt!!! This cannot be happening, no way does someone pay in advance for a service then not only never gets a call, but my $450 leather jacket is now donated and I had the pleasure of paying her $87.60 to do it. Not only did she just cut the bottom of the shirts off, but one was on a diagonal. She offered to finish the hem, but one of the diagonal is too short!!! Horrible service read more

I took a relatively small repair (a belt loop on a pair of jeans) to Judy for the first time and thought that I would take her my husband's leather jacket if I was pleased with the work. This easy piece of work was fine, so no problem there, but the customer service on three trips was NOT. She was very rude to me each time I went and seemed pissed off that someone had come to bother her while she was working. The first time I tried to pick up I didn't have cash or a check (she doesn't take credit cards) and while I understand the policy, she was extremely rude to me about my not having $5 in cash or a checkbook on me. I had to leave, without picking up the pants. The second time I came to pick them up, she yelled at me for coming into the store before she was open. The door was unlocked and the window was open, lights on, etc. so Ididnt know she wasn't open yet. She couldn't find the jeans for quite a while and she acted as if this was my fault. She yelled at me for leaving them there so long and not picking them up on time. When she finally found them, listed under my first name only, she grabbed them out of my hands to make me "verify" that they were mine by reciting the phone number. She almost didn't give them to me because the ticket had been written messily and what should have been an 8 looked like a 0. I understand being careful about giving away a designer leather jacket to just anyone. This was a five dollar repair on regular jeans for which I could verify my unusual first name and 7 out of the 8 digits in the phone number that she wrote down. She acted annoyed and irked at me the entire time and began complaining about "customers like me" who "leave things so long". She remarked that this wasn't even worth her time because she had to pay for the lights to be on and pay for the assistant to write up my ticket, etc. I apologized several times and she never acknowledged me other than to complain about my business. Needless to say, I wont be bringing her any more of my annoying and inconvenient business. read more

About a month ago, I walked into Judy's store with my girlfriend. I needed to have a very simple stitch done over a piece of cloth that was too thick for a regular sewing machine. When we walked in, she was busy working at her desk. We waited patiently and after a few minutes, she hastily looked over my project. It was obvious from her attitude and lack of interest that she deemed this to be a low level priority for her. She was short with her words and exaggeratedly impatient. While I was in the middle of explaining what I needed done, a regular of hers stopped into the store. She immediately left our conversation and began to excitedly gossip about a poor business deal she had undertaken that involved an exchange of services between her and a massage therapist in her same building. After waiting (once again) patiently, my girlfriend and I finally decided that this was going nowhere so we got up to leave. Just before getting to the door, she came back around and attempted to finish up with us. I wish I had just kept on walking. After a very ineffective and rushed conversation, I left her my project. When I came back later that week, I was presented with a completely unfinished product. There were loose strands of thread hanging from the edges and days after, some of her stitching came apart as well. Luckily it wasn't an expensive lesson for me but I get the distinct feeling that if it had been a higher ticket item, this problem would never have come up. I took a pair of jeans to Judy and told her that the zipper was sewn incorrectly and thus, it didn't lay flat or stay zipped. She insisted that was not the problem; that it was something else causing that problem. She said she could fix it, told me it would be $30 plus tx and it would take 2.5 weeks. When I came to pick them up, she proudly showed me what she did. I took one look and noticed the zipper was still crooked, but I trusted that she knew what she was doing. WRONG! The problem was not fixed, so I took them back to her. She was clearly annoyed, but admitted she forgot to do that part and then proceeded to toss my jeans on a chair and told me to come back in 4 days without giving me a slip to claim them. I thought that was strange, but I returned in 4 days to another chilly reception by Judy. Before leaving the store, I took a look at the zipper and there was no change. I let her know the zipper was still not straight. She then grabbed them out of my hands and started pulling at the zipper saying "see? see? it is straight! I fix for you!" followed by "give me a break!...they are fixed!". She then tossed her hands up in the air and essentially motioned for me to leave her store. I told her I would try them and she said "there is nothing wrong with your jeans nor is there anything she can do...the problem is my fabric and don't bring them back!" After $30 and 3 weeks, they still are not fixed, AND I got treated horribly after being ripped off and inconvenienced. I have patronized her business for years and have recommended her to many friends. While this is the first issue I have had, it is a deal breaker. It is one thing to not be happy with the poor results of her work, but to be abused by her is unacceptable and unprofessional. read more

I am a tall woman and I have regularly had Judy alter clothing to make the legs/sleeves longer. She recently took 2 pairs of Columbia camo printed pants, cut the legs off one pair and sewed 3 inches to the bottom of the 2nd pair to make them long enough for me. The first pair were turned into shorts. It's impossible to tell that the pants have been lengthened her stitching is so good. She's done this for me with shirt sleeves too. She has also patched my favorite jeans for me and other projects over the last 10 years. Excellent work always! read more

The reviews were decent, save some low responses to Judy's customer service, so I decided to give her a shot with a skirt that I needed taken in. A pencil skirt from Gap that I figured would be simple enough, she charged me $50 for. When I took it home and tried it on, she had only taken in one side, so the waste line was visibly slanted and unwearable (even my boyfriend agreed...). I took it back and asked her to fix it and she scoffed and said she didn't understand and kept repeating the work she'd done and how that couldn't have caused the issue. She agreed to fix it and when I went to pick it up a week later, it is somehow even worse. I don't even know what she did but the skirt is still unwearable. She is generally a rude woman and her craftsmanship is unacceptable. I will never go back and I advise no one to employ Judy's service. read more

This is not an easy review for me to write. I was told about Judy's by several people and was really excited to work with her when I needed to have my wedding dress altered. My dress did not need much. A little elastic taken out and a piece of ribbon added to the front, plus a ribbon to be tied in the back. I went to Judy's 1 month before my wedding as I have been losing weight and wanted to wait to get it taken care of as close to the date as possible. Things went great! She recommended a great ribbon shop in Seattle and I found a perfect match for my dress! I gave her the ribbon needed 2 weeks before the date to be picked up and was told that it was no problem. She put in the pins and I left being so excited to see the end results. I went in the day before I was to leave for an out of town wedding to pick up the dress. As I arrived, a half hour after I was told it would be ready, she still had a ways to go. In fact, she told me that she had finished all her other duties for the day early and had forgotten abot the dress. She was frantically putting it all back together. No big deal, I am a patient person and although I had errands I was willing to wait. After leaving Judy's I had a ton of running around town to finish all the last minute duties of the bride. Finally at 2:30 am I had a chance to try on the dress. The lace along the front was crooked, in fact from the left side to the right side there was about a 1/2 inch difference. Also, the ribbon was not sewed down and kept folding over, completely defeating the purpose of a vintage ribbon like the one I chose and Judy agreed upon. I called and left her a message on her phone to let her know the issues and to let her know I would be in the following day as early as she was there to get it fixed. The next morning I called every a few times and finally got a hold of her. She told me to bring it right in. "Thank you" I thought! No big deal, these things happen and it will all be taken care of. However, when I arrived, Judy was very short with me and didn't believe me that the ribbon was crooked. I offered to put the dress on to she her and she just grabbed the dress and immediately started to pull the ribbon off. I was very surprised to see her be a little bit rude. I tried to explain to her what was wrong and she just kept telling me that now she was going to have to do some of it by hand. I told her that I felt like she rushed my dress and reminded her that she had told me that she had forgotten about the dress. This brought her to say, " So are you mad that I forgot about the dress, or do you really have an issue with the lace being crooked." I was a little take back by this. I explained to her that I was sorry that there was more work, but I told her that I was going to go to lunch and I would be back in an hour and a half, but if she needed more time I wasn't leaving town until 4. This was at 11:30. I returned when I had said and she handed me the dress. She then went on to say " I bet you want to try it on now, huh." I replied that I did, as I had made the mistake of not doing it the day before. While I was in the dressing room she kept mentioning all the other work she had to do for the day and how much money those jobs were bringing in. She mentioned at least 3 different jobs in a matter of minutes. I felt as if she was trying to make me feel bad for having her fix the mistakes she had made and for her forgetting about my dress. The alterations on my dress cost me $50. Completely reasonable! However, I felt that since it was such small business to her that she was going out of her way to help me. Although I know that she is very busy and is good at what she does, I was a little disappointed in the attitude and responses I received from her during this process. As a bride who has done everything, including making all the food, growing all my own flowers, made all the candles and centerpieces myself I was hoping that the dress process would be very easy. The response I got did not seem fair, or appropriate for a person who deals with brides on a regular basis. I didn't need the stress of dealing with the dress and I handled that just fine, but the attitude and lack of friendliness I received from Judy during a small crisis didn't seem fair or appropriate. This review is not intended to take business from this woman, as I know her work is good, I have heard this from many people. I signed up for a Yelp account just to write this review. That is how strongly I feel about never returning to Judy's. Don't get me wrong, she does great work but so do a lot of other tailors in the city- for A LOT LESS. I wanted to try Judy's cause she is walking distance from my house. The first day I went she was closed during her posted business hours. I was perplexed. I called the number listed, but there was no explanation. Finally the employee in the store next door told me she was moving from upstairs to downstairs and would be open next Monday. Fair enough but how about a note on the door or a message on the answering machine? When I did finally catch her in the shop she was busy helping someone else. I waited for 15 min before she acknowledged me then 15 more while she finished up with her customer. Normally this wouldn't make me upset as I am very much aware that I am not the only person in the world but I couldn't help but be slightly irritated that she sat there chatting with the girl about her friends and the wedding she was going to long after she finished pinning. Once I was in my dress-to-be-altered, she made me wait another 15 while she chatted with a friend that stopped by and a repair man who had come to service one of her machines before she helped me. I was trying to be patient but I had things to do to and didn't expect to spend an hour having 2 items pinned. As she was writing up the ticket, she asked me when I needed them. I told her I wasn't in a rush so she said how about Feb 28th? (exactly 4 weeks from that day)- I thought that was a little long but still agreed to it even though I had just watched her quote 3 days for the girl in front of me, hoping that maybe I would get a break in price for having to wait so long. Man was I wrong.... When Judy gave me the receipt, I was shocked. $78 to hem a pair of pants and a dress- and I'm talking super easy straight hem, no fancy stuff. Ok, so the dress had a lining, but that still seemed outrageously high for two items. Too shocked to say anything, and now running late, I decided to suck it up and just resolved never to come back. I was late picking up my items (approximately 2 weeks) but figured it wasn't a big deal since she had made me wait so long. In fact I had forgotten about them completely, as is normal over the course of a month until my grandfather passed away and I realized my only funeral appropriate black dress was the one she had. I stopped in on a Monday since I had to leave the next day, having forgotten that she was closed Mondays. To my relief she was inside. I knocked on the door and gave my most apologetic look, knowing very well that what I was asking her to do was totally rude. When she opened the door I immediately and profusely apologized and explained my situation. Instead of the tiniest bit of sympathy I expected, as someone in a fragile position, who has worked customer service in the past, she actually had the nerve to yell at me. Yell at me for knocking, yell at me for being late picking them up, yell at me because this is her day off, yell at me for longer than it took to get the clothes and pay for them. She had no problem taking my $80 however. The work is good, though she forgot to take out the pockets on the pants as we had discussed. But I will never go back- there are plenty of people who can do it just as well, for much less, and with a much better attitude. read more
