My spouse and I planned a last minute wedding and, not understanding that it takes longer to get a wedding dress dry cleaned than regular garments, ended up with the dilemma of needing alterations on my wedding gown done less than 2 weeks beforehand. The alterations I needed included taking in bodice at the neckline (off the shoulder), switching out the sash for another one I'd bought, and shortening my veil. I solicited quotes using the Yelp messaging function, most places just told me to bring the dress in without giving a range, however Elena was one of the few who replied with an actual estimate breakdown. Since I was short on time, I didn't have the luxury of being able to spend a lot of time shopping around in person. I did go in to get a quote from a specialty shop on the eastside, but was told that it would cost $800 just to get the bodice done, plus a rush fee that they would waive. I was told to seek out a wedding gown specialist for the bodice job as it required expertise. Their price was a bit too high for me but I knew not to try to get it done for too cheap, and off I went to see Elena. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I arrived a half hour before closing time as a walk-in and she generously fit me in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She had helpful suggestions for the things I wanted done (like the placement of the seam alteration on the bust, and leaving the veil longer than I was thinking). We were able to find an appointment for me to pick up the dress 8 days later--a whole 4 days before the wedding! Between the two fittings I probably spent a total of 30 min in her shop--very efficient and no-nonsense. Paid $430 plus tax/tip for everything. She does great, efficient work for a reasonable price. read more

All around a terrible experience. Watch out for her math she'll try to scam you. She calculated $164 initially and what I agreed to, then put $178 in her system before tax and ended up being $198 to tailor a single suit vest to my body. She planned to do quite a bit to alter it but when I came to try it on it did not fit well and when I brought up those concerns she stated all the things she couldn't do to it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She probably would have let me walk out having paid for all the alterations she promised and didn't do but right before I left I mentioned to her having been charged to let out the vest and she interrupted me in a rude tone that she told me already that she couldn't let it out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I replied "I know, but I paid for it." She came over and grabbed the receipt from my hand and said thanks for reminding her. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I tried to kindly call out the other charges on it that she didn't do and her math being wrong, she raised her voice again to gaslight me and said that she put a lot of work into the vest and she wouldn't refund me anymore.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]She then rolled her eyes at me as she processed the refund.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I asked why she felt I should pay her for work she didn't do and she tried to walk back what she said when I tried the vest on and that she actually did more work to it then what we originally agreed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's unfortunate to encounter people like that. I'm not writing this review about being overcharged or having a vest that fits worse than before, I want to caution how she treats people.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would recommend finding a tailor with a better spirit. read more

I had a dress ordered online that was supposed to be custom fit for me. I'd even lost weight since the original measurements to be able to fit this dress. The night I received it, the week of my friend's wedding, the zipper broke while I was trying it on. I even got stuck in the dress for 30 minutes. It clearly was not my size. Elena is the kind and professional owner of this lovely little business on 5th Ave. You can't miss this charming place, there is a giant measuring tape art installation in the window. I've come to Elena over the years for a variety of needs, and she's always transformed by wardrobe into a bespoke garment that looks made for me. Coats with sleeves too long, needing belt loops added, hemming a long gown and adjusting to my body, skirts, jackets, you name it! She is always excellent, quick, professional, kind and reasonably priced. She also can see what a garment needs in order to be corrected in a way I couldn't see until she shows me, it's crazy how often length makes something look ill-fitted. One of the best things about Elena is that she won't waste your time or money and will let you know if something isn't worth your time to alter. For example: I brought in a tweed jacket with sleeves slightly too short. She showed me that she could certainly fix alter the jacket but also that if I wore it in a certain way (which she demonstrated) that I may not need to. I have so much respect for a business owner who would do this even if it means they don't get your business that day. It's the reason I'll always come back. read more
