The gift shop is filled with spooky gifts, apparel and Knick knacks that, as a lover of Halloween myself, it's hard to say no to. The ladies who give the tour are dressed up adorably to fit in with the time period of the mansion. They are knowledgeable and informative and are happy to answer any questions about the mansion and the spirits that reside in it. The hidden Marietta tours are one of the main reasons why Marietta, Ohio stays on top of my favorite spooky cities to visit.

The admission fee of $10 is well worth the price when you consider what it takes to upkeep the house and all that is in it. The self-guided tour begins with a video of the history of the house. You can take as long as you want to walk around the house and then sit outside on the porch or walk around the grounds. The workers inside the house will tell you as much as they know. It's interesting to see that the items in the house are original to the house and NOT gotten from other homes or antique stores. This family saved everything from letters, to books to run the plantation, trinkets, toys, and furniture. Well worth a visit here. I especially enjoyed reading the few letters that they had copies for reading. I hope that they will eventually scan the letters and compile them for reading as they reveal history through the eyes of a family in a very troubled period of time.

Then we got off again, they were 15 min early (from posted time). So we walked a couple of miles so we didn't just have to stand there. 20 min late again after getting here 20 min early so we wouldn't be left on the side of the road again. Ride at your own risk in terms of being flexible. On a positive point, the guys doing the narrative/guides were great! You pay extra for "hop and stop" the pick ups need to be a little more accurate. Don't tell us to be there 5 min early when you need to 25 min early and be willing to wait 25 min after scheduled pick ups.

The guides were Ian and Kyle, they are super smart and helpful. Their patience is what we needed and received. At our age, safety is a big concern. These folks ensure it and restored our confidence. Easily one of the best tours I've ever taken…read more I knew this would need to be part of our WV itinerary as soon as this place's existence became known to me while I was planning a possible trip. Just the name is enough to grab you but it certainly delivers. The thought of doing a paranormal tour intrigued me but I was also interested in the history. We arrived at 2:20 and were informed the paranormal tour wasn't starting until 4. Did we really want to wait until 4?! The very nice man provided descriptions of all of the tours and the paranormal one just sounded so interesting that it didn't seem like a real debate. We bought tickets and were considering how we would kill time but it turns out, they have a very interesting museum about the place's history on the first floor that someone entertained my ADHD ass until 3:55. It was incredible. As if that couldn't get any better, the tour was absolutely fascinating. We were taken throughout the museum and our guide, Brad, was impressively knowledgeable about the place, answered every question in exquisite detail. The only disappointment was that instead of experiencing anything paranormal, we were just told stories about things other people have experienced. Don't get me wrong, this was captivating but I was hoping to experience something for myself which I did not. An absolute must visit if you are interested in this kind of shit and are anywhere remotely in the vicinity.
