Dr. Amber is the best I have come across in three countries and five states - she's super responsive on email, very respectful of time, appointments are prompt, lots of non-critical things handled by phone and email - and above all she's a very compassionate and technically strong doctor. I was one of the first patients through the door and I'm delighted to see her practice continue to grow and thrive.

It's still a small medical practice, and Dr. W does it all herself. She's the closest thing to an old fashioned "family doctor" that I've ever had in my life, yet her practice is completely modern. It's great being able to contact my doctor by email any time of day or night and get replies back (to non-urgent matters) the same way. No bureaucracy, no wasted time filling out paperwork, no navigating through layers of phone menus. Dr. Wobbekind respects my time. Plus, she's easy-going, friendly, and smart. I wish all doctors were this good.

That is all I wanted--a physical and basic bloodwork. At no time did anyone let me know verbally or in writing that there is a fee to establish care despite my letting them know that my insurance only covers a physical once/year (everything else falls under a very high deductible). At first, Dr. Mahoney was nice and knowledgeable although he appeared to be jacked up on something...then he was pretty unprofessional and also dropped the ball on a requested test. This is the first doctor's visit in which the nurse did not ask me to put on a gown and I did not get a physical (just my blood pressure taken by the nurse and Dr. Mahoney "listened" to my heartbeat" while talking incessantly about how his mother-in-law takes testosterone which makes women aggressive. I did not ask about testosterone nor do I have any interest in it so I found it strange that he talked about it for a long time. He also told me that he cleaned another patient's ear out ("the son of a cardiologist") and made him bleed so that patient was annoyed with him (a legal expert told me that the doctor sharing this could be considered a HIPPA violation...). I asked for a urinalysis to be done with my bloodwork and left a urine sample which was never completed and to date nobody can tell me how it was forgotten although Dr. Mahoney admitted writing that he "forgot." When I explained that my health insurance would not cover me coming back to do it at another time as they suggested, nobody cared or offered a solution. When I received a questionnaire about my experience, I left honest feedback. I spoke with their Patient Representative, Kaoni, who told me she had never heard about a new patient fee and that I would not have to pay it. (I brought it up because I read another one-star review from a patient who mentioned it.) Despite that, I have now received a bill from Common Spirit--a new patient fee for $165 to "establish care" that my insurance will not cover. Since I am not going to return to this practice due to gross incompetence, negligence, and unprofessionalism, I am NOT going to pay it. I have called the Patient Representative line several times, left messages, and apparently Kaoni or anyone else cannot be reached. I can only get one physical/year and this one was a waste of my time and it puts my health in jeopardy. In fact, I will be demanding that I get a full refund back to my insurance for this awful and stressful visit. My recommendation is that people avoid this place unless you have money to burn and do not care about your health and wish to be treated poorly. For starters, Common Spirit should be transparent about their new patient fee. I would not have come here at all if I had known about it. How would you like to go out to dinner, order food and then get a bill that includes the charge for your meal + a "new diner" fee? Nobody would like that. It's underhanded, corrupt, greedy, and sleazy! If you wish to charge this, then be transparent about it from the get-go! Please also note that CommonSpirit only seems to allow 5-star reviews of their doctors on their website which IMO is misleading and unethical. Shame on this medical practice and facility. I have filed a formal complaint with DORA and will be filing more with every other consumer/government agency I can. I will also be calling an attorney if they insist I pay the new patient fee that was never disclosed to me when booking the appointment for what turned out to be a terrible physical at a facility I would never trust again.

Since the retirement of Dr. Karen Kelly-Hemler and the subsequent take over by Optum, which is owned by United Health Care, patient care, customer service and follow up have all changed drastically. First of all, it is a revolving door of doctors, PA's, nurse practitioners, MA's, managers and front office staff since I started going there. Dr. Kelly used to genuinely care about her patients and demonstrated that each time I saw her, but now it's only about how much money the doctors and managers can squeeze out of each person who comes through the door. I absolutely dread when I need a prescription refilled because it can take weeks for the staff to reply to the pharmacy and approve the prescription especially if there is an issue with insurance, and that's if they don't require me to come in for an office visit first. I have run out of medication because insurance won't let me fill it too early or the office does not see running out of medication as a priority. When I've complained to the receptionist at the front desk they tell me that they are so busy and understaffed that they can't get to medication requests sometimes for several days or weeks, and no one sees anything wrong with this. I can just see the roll of the eyes from the staff when I ask how long something is going to take, as if I'm being unreasonable. Also, I recently had an issue with my insurance not being accepted and the doctor told me she had many patients that pay of out pocket but she took this as an opportunity to charge me $300 for a 10 minute appointment - surprise! The front desk receptionist told me that they don't usually take patients who don't have insurance that they accept and that I should go somewhere else that accepts my insurance. Changing primary doctors can be very time consuming but in this case I think that's the best advice I've heard.

They asked me to come in for an initial visit prior to having my annual exam. That's fine, but I mistakenly assumed this initial visit, where nothing other than BP and build was measured, would be considered part of my annual exam and billed as such (my insurance covers one annual exam/year). At this visit, I talked to the NP for about 30 minutes (which included her leaving the room twice to deal with another patient--I was nice and didn't complain about this although it was inappropriate). She asked me to schedule my exam in approximately a month. This weekend I received a bill for this initial visit. I called the office to verify whether this initial visit was considered part of the annual exam; it is not. So I'm paying for a 30 minute conversation that was not valuable to me in any way. My suggestion to this practice is to let patients know up front they will be paying for an initial conversation if they want to establish care there. It's not a huge amount of money, but it's money out of my pocket for zero return. There are plenty of practices that will provide quality, efficient care without taking advantage of their customers in this way, and I will be moving my care to one of them.
