I've been here many a time. Each time a cute girl with a braid helps me and the interactions are always positive. I come here on a Monday. I totally I understand that your busy but when this different hostess told me I had to wait which was fine I waited. I said we would like to order coffee to go instead she ignored us for 10 minutes. We finally ordered and paid for the coffee. 20 minutes late she comes out and asks what our already paid for order was and it then bring us out one thing right. Didn't say anything. I was hungry so I decided to go in and get the menu and my internet was working. She decided to randomly rattle off the password to the wifi without even allowing me to pull up my WiFi. I then ask what sandwiches they had since that didn't work to which I was told "I'm not going to go over the whole menu with you. Which was actually only 3 sandwiches which I just wanted to eat anything. So I said forget it and ordered a water and a soda to which I paid for and went back outside. I waited for about 10 minutes and went back in to which I asked the gentlemen for my water and soda. She comes by and says it's a Diet Coke and do you want a bottle water. I just said can I get water. Anyway. Then she proceeds to tell me that she doesn't service outside when she clearly came out with her pad and paper to write down an order she even got wrong inside and outside. I paid for it and then she attempted to charge me again. 1) I wanted two coffees Paid for them waited a longer than needed time. 2) I was told that she didn't have time to help me get the menu which is horrible customers service. 3) she tells me that she doesn't service outside when all I asked for was a water and a can of soda. It's not the clients fault because you understaff your space. You don't get mean with every patron there. She told a girl who ordered her food an hour before that she's just gonna have to wait because she's busy and just stood there to stare at the chaos for 10 minutes before she moved onto the next step of dissociation. I'm going to come back but only if the other girl Is there. I understand if your having a bad day but passive aggressive hostessing is the least liked of all jobs. Get a job telling people no somewhere like an insurance company because your clearly in the wrong profession. Rude. Whoever hired this person should reevaluate staff before people get tired of her bullshiz. So she answered back. And she was the owner. Sneakily asking for a to go water and soda? What? I paid for it. And took it outside because my friend didn't feel comfortable with the amount of people inside. I didn't ask for special privilege. Clearly this business owner shouldn't be a business owner if you can't take constructive and very true criticism from a patron who has been to her establishment. Not once or twice but many times and have spent many a nickel on her very delicious food. Mind you I also work in social media management for restaurants and would never ever recommend anyone to come to a place where they would be treated with such disrespect and rudeness as this woman has treated me. Came here to quietly celebrate my friend's birthday. I definitely didn't see a place like this in Ridgewood. I was really pleased to see how it was. The decor was Bohemian-chic. Some of the decor on the walls were so pretty! They were even for sale!!! They were definitely works of art. This place is truly a gem in the neighborhood. What we ordered: - Classic Beet Salad - Golden and red beets topped with creamy goat cheese, micro greens and candied pecans, drenched with lemon basil vinaigrette - Dee's Chicken Melt - Roasted free range chicken breast tossed in jalapeno pesto, with pickled napales and peppers, topped with creamy white cheddar and tart green tomatillos - OMG!!! TO DIE FOR As per the menu, all grilled sandwiches are grilled on Amy's Sourdough with garlic and parsley butter, served with a side of kettle chips and carrot slaw!! Loved the experience at Julia's. The brunch menu is a number of options we opted for a couple main items and sides. My espresso was delicious! I followed it up with a Bloody Mary (Maria) that I felt was a little sweet. We sat outside to enjoy the weather and never felt forgotten about. Julia's is fantastic! The staff are very attentive. Went there tonight. Had the BBQ sliders, arepas (highly recommend), as well as apple goat cheese salad. My partner went for brunch a few weeks ago with some friends from upstate and had a fabulous time. a gem in the Ridgewood neighborhood - worth traveling to from neighboring Brooklyn areas. service was very pleasant - they were slammed but were able to communicate that and did so in a way that wasn't off putting, but very polite and pleasant, while still letting us know we were important and would be gotten to quickly. the food was FANTASTIC, from the London fog teas to the entrees down to dessert. each dish was delightful with impactful and unique flavors. I was here once about two years ago and had the WORST experience. Not a Yelper until now, I thought it was important to share this so anyone else choosing to dine here can be aware of these issues, should they also pertain to anyone reading this review. My friend, her young daughter, and I came on a very quiet night. Aware we had a young child with us, we chose a spot pretty isolated from the few other guests, understanding folks might not want to dine near a toddler. The server we had clearly did not like children. Not so much a kid person myself, I get that, but fake it until you make it, my dude. Especially at work. The toddler in tow was actually quiet, calm, and extremely well-behaved throughout the entire meal. (I'd totally admit if she wasn't, since as previously mentioned, I'm not really a kid person.) Our server was pretty rude throughout, not really wanting to hear our questions as we ordered. My friend ordered an appetizer plate to share with her daughter, which he plopped down in the dimly lit room without a word. She and her daughter started eating the plate of fruits and meats and cheeses, when my friend - a recovering alcoholic who hasn't consumed alcohol in YEARS - got a weird look on her face. "Can you try this? Is it alcohol?" she asked, calmly but horrified, as she handed me what had been advertised on the menu as fig jam. I tried it and it was clearly soaked in alcohol. We immediately took it away from her toddler and flagged our server down. "Does this have alcohol in it?" "Yes, it's sherried cherries," he announced. "It isn't fig jam? The menu says the plate comes with cheeses, meats, and fig jam. It's so dark I didn't really think anything of it until I tasted it," my friend explained. The server shrugged and said that sometimes they have to substitute. "But you didn't tell us about the substitution," I pointed out. "My friend's two year old just ate that." My friend also mentioned at this point that she is a recovering alcoholic and would have changed her order had he shared that information with us ahead of time. Our server was obviously annoyed, showed absolutely no empathy, and issued no apology for not disclosing the menu substitution, nor for feeding a TODDLER and an ALCOHOLIC an alcohol-soaked fruit. We ordered something else and our server remained rude and annoyed. It was so uncomfortable we wrapped up pretty quickly and headed out. I ended up emailing the restaurant about the situation, since I thought it was worth letting someone know that a member of the staff wasn't being careful about disclosing substitutions and, mostly, didn't seem to understand the health implications or the implications of *feeding a toddler something with alcohol*. Management basically admitted the server was annoyed we had a child with us, and while they apologized for that and claimed they'd spoken to him about it and reminded him they're a family-friendly establishment, there wasn't anything else they could do. But we should come back for children's story time! There was no real acknowledgment that we were mostly upset that he'd enabled a situation where a two year old consumed sherry, and that he'd jeopardized an adult's sobriety. Nobody at Julia's seemed to take that seriously, at all. We were charged for that appetizer and management decided that was appropriate. I'm not looking for a free meal, but it's the gesture that matters. Both staff and management left a bitter taste in our mouths, both figuratively and literally. If you value your own sobriety or have food allergies that a non-disclosed menu substitution would cause you harm, steer clear. There are plenty of places - almost literally any other place - that won't be annoyed with you that you're a bit stunned a sober adult and a toddler were served a sherried fruit without warning. read more

Arugula salad was perfectly dressed and the flavors went well together. Nothing super unique about it, but it felt in line with seasonal ingredients and was very well executed. Good selection of beer and the prices are very reasonable. Their red Malbec/Cab Franc blend was really good and reasonably priced along with generous pours. They also carry a decent selection of ciders and they even carry mead -- I've only heard of that in like Harry Potter fantasy land. The service is very quick and efficient. Feels very homey and welcoming, not pretentious at all. The ambiance is hipster-antique shop-like with interesting serving glass chandeliers along with old wooden tables that you would expect to see in some fantasy world. If you LOVE Norma's Corner Shoppe, you can't not LOVE Julia's. They've got quite a few tables set up outside and we didn't have to wait at all to get one (we came early). They don't have any "actual entrees" on the menu - it's mostly sandwiches and appetizers, and of course, vino, beer and cocktails. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious. We are a fan of sister establishment Norma's, so eating at Julia's has been on our list for a while. It was a somewhat busy Sunday when we visited, but the server seated us right away and was friendly and accommodating to us and our little baby. We ordered the Vegan Veggie Hash and Arepas Con Huevos. My husband also ordered the non-alcoholic version of their lavender lemonade. Both plates were delicious and the drink was nice too. When my husband was at the last quarter of his drink, he remarked that he felt the symptoms he usually gets when he drinks alcohol. Sure enough, I saw him getting flushed and dizzy. While he doesn't have a full-on alcohol allergy, the symptoms are strong enough that he avoids alcohol altogether. We asked the server if she had accidentally put in an order for the alcoholic lemonade (that has soju) but she hadn't. The server checked with the bartender and told us that the bartender didn't remember which drink she had made because she had made so many, so it was possible that it did have soju in it. I found this worrying because my husband could have had a more serious reaction. If anything, there needs to be a better system to distinguish the alcoholic drinks from the non-alcoholic ones. They comped us for the drink, which was a nice gesture. We'll still come back for the great food and atmosphere, but will probably avoid the non-bottled drinks in the future. read more

Julia's is the neighborhood bar that you wish you had in your neighborhood (and/or the neighborhood bar that will strongly encourage you to move to Ridgewood). It's super homey, with a bar and window seating area right as you walk in, followed by a small separate dining room. Judging by most of their reviews most people choose Julia's for brunch, but I can attest that their dinner is solid as well. We opted to share a couple of items, which turned out perfectly. Their beet salad had all the usual suspects, including big slabs of beets, walnuts, arugula, and goat cheese. It was topped with an out of this world pesto that I wanted to drizzle on everything. We then shared the toasted goat, which was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. Creamy, melted goat cheese was paired with fig spread and bacon on delicious grilled bread, with an accompanying side salad and carrot slaw. And how could we turn down dessert? We shared a deconstructed key lime cheesecake, which came with graham cracker crumbles, plenty of whipped cream, and a berry sauce. Our waitress was lovely, and Julia's was the perfect place to spend a cold and rainy evening. I'll definitely be back to check out their brunch soon! read more

I just moved out of Ridgewood and I didn't realize how devastated I would be leaving this spot! Seriously one of my favorite restaurants in all of NYC! The food is so good, the employees are lovely, the ambiance is so perfect. Sometimes there's even live music, and they support local artists! Top three favorite dishes: The Cubanish, Toasted Goat, and the Smothered Toast (we like to add bacon)! And the prices are super reasonable as well! Please open another location somewhere in Brooklyn! Our favorite spot for date nights, morning brunch and everything in between! Julia's is amazing. Owners Crystal and Dee are true food visionaries, changing up the menu and playing with flavors, seasonal herbs and ingredients to keep things both interesting and delicious (Crystal is a recent "Chopped" champion!). The menu features Julia's mainstays, including their delectable grilled sandwiches and turnovers (the beef turnover is my favorite) served with mixed greens and pumpkin seeds in vinaigrette. But the menu is also fresh and seasonal, with a rotating selection of offerings to look forward to and try. The sweet cheese plate is also a personal favorite and great for sharing. Three words: port wine cherries. So delicious I can eat the serving by myself! Look for them in desserts and chocolate mousse, too, around Valentines Day. Their pumpkin and pecan waffles, a recent addition to the fall brunch menu, is a deliciously decadent way to kick off the weekend. There are also hearty dishes, such as melt in your mouth steak and eggs, that are perfect for winter. Their wine menu is extensive and, much like their food and fresh ingredients, comes mostly from local tristate and NY state vineyards. My favorite is the Malbec, something I tried first here on the advice of a knowledgeable staff member. Not sure what to try, or which wine to pair with what? Ask a staffer. They know their stuff and will guide you in the right wine direction for you. They are also very friendly and attentive. Don't miss out on their cocktails too! Their Soju Bloody Mary and variety of mimosas- from traditional to pear and lychee- are perfect with brunch. The Ruby Slipper will make you feel like you're not in Kansas anymore! Amazing! They also boast a great selection of craft beer from local NY brewers, including Finback Brewer in Glendale, in a range of brews from the lightest IPA to the darkest stout. We love coming here for a laid back supper and glasses of wine, the perfect weeknight date, as well as weekend brunch before errands. The font of the restaurant has outdoor seating in nice weather- a great, cozy spot to sit with a glass of wine and small bites and read a book or people watch. The wine room is cozy, with red walls and checker floor tile. The main dining room is elegant, with gold tin tile ceiling and chandeliers, yet also kid friendly and laid back. They also have a kids menu, too, with favorites like grilled cheese and rainbow carrots. Julia's is the perfect addition to the neighborhood! I have always driven by this restaurant and for some reason I always felt the urge to go in. I never read reviews about the place and didn't even know what kind of place it was but the atmosphere and decor caught my eye. I was intrigued and needed to eat there. Yesterday was the day it finally happened !! And let me tell you, it was worth the wait. The ambience was super chill. Art pieces decorated the wall and jewelry decorated small shelves near the back of the restaurant. The place was empty but inviting and cozy. The waitress was very nice and gave suggestions on the menu. I ordered the cheesesteak with carrot slaw and salad. The salad was simple; tossed greens. The carrot slaw was crunchy and spicy. The cheesesteak was the fanciest cheesesteak I have ever had. The steak was shredded and marinated in red wine. The flavors popped. Mushrooms in the sandwich were bold and the flavor stood out next to the meat, a wonderful combination. My cousin had the root stew. She added beef to it because the stew comes without meat. She loved her dish. The cheesecake dessert was delicate. The cheesecake was not overly sweet. The restaurant was clean. There is one unisex bathroom. Attended the soft-opening for Julia's this past weekend and I have to say that they're off to an amazing start! The establishment was packed from wall to wall as locals came out to support this classy wine bar. It was great to see Crystal and Denise (the ladies from Norma's) and the rest of the staff busy and bustling through the crowd with smiles. They were serving up cheese plates (one sweet, one savory), charcuterie, turnovers, delicious wines and beers. This establishment has a bar, in addition to a beautifully decorated sitting room.
