As a photographer, I encourage women to be present in pictures. But as a woman, I know it can be difficult to take that step. I decided that I should put my money where my mouth is and booked a glamour session with Liza. I had my hair and makeup done and there were nibbles and drinks while I was getting ready. Once we started shooting I started feeling more comfortable (yes, even photographers feel weird getting photographed!), and Liza was great at giving me direction in posing and facial expression. We started out in her home studio, then headed to an amazing mustard field not too far away for some outdoor images. The studio and outdoor images each had their own feel and it really felt like getting two sessions for one. I had a great time and was incredibly happy with the prints I chose. Choosing Liza as our engagement and wedding photographer was the best decision (other than saying "I do") we have made! The things that were most important for us was that our photographer captured candid moments, has natural-looking editing, calm under stress, unobtrusive, and got along with us and our wedding guests. Liza was all of that and more! Engagement Photoshoot: I gave Liza some sample photos of the type of shots we wanted to take as well as the (fairly rugged, steep, mountainous) location and she was just as excited as we were! We hiked, we laughed, we ran, and we chased the best sunlight and came out with the most incredible photos I've seen. They're even better than the sample photos I had dreamed of having! With the landscape, sun lighting, and Liza's guidance with posing and positioning, these pictures are unbelievably beautiful. Wedding: We had a fairly unusual wedding in which it was a 3-day destination wedding in snow, inclement weather, and potentially a logistical nightmare with several contingent plans. Liza was thorough and responsive in terms of preparation and guiding us through what she needed to be successful as well as things we needed to decide ourselves. She has a great balance between understanding what decisions need to be set, and what can be flexible day-of, which comes from her extensive experience and incredible skill. We never had to stress, worry, or even think about our pictures weekend of because we knew Liza had everything covered and that if she had any questions, she'd ask. It was great having a photographer that was collaborative and willing to try new things (like shooting while being pelted by ice and wind). She is a true artist with her camera and dozens of lenses. My fiancee and I had so much fun just relaxing and letting her guide us, going around the winery with Liza suggesting where we should stand or sit or kiss or hug or just "act naturally" in different locations, and she photographed us from different angles and distances that honestly taught me a thing or two about how I should try taking photos from now on! We hired Liza to shoot our wedding, which took place this past weekend. Neither my bride nor myself are super comfortable around cameras; and I am so glad that Liza was our photographer. She is relaxed, personable, and professional. I'll start out my review by saying that I was seriously considering not having a photographer at my wedding. I was going to hunt down those disposable cameras and have one for each guest (it was a small wedding) and use those pictures. I've been in and attended so many weddings where the photographer was always either in the way trying to get that "candid" shot or whisking the bride and groom away for posed shots. My in-laws convinced me to get photographer (by paying) and I was lucky enough to find Liza. I am so happy I did. Liza is not only incredibly talented, she genuinely loves weddings and cares about capturing those precious moments for you. She is flexible and sweet and kind and generous and all together a wonderful person who you will be glad to be working with. Every wedding will have its mishaps and mix-ups. Liza will not be one of them. She guides you through each photo if you are awkward (like me) and don't know what to do with your hands and your face as soon as a camera goes up, but she lets you run the show if you are comfortable and know what you're doing. She is honest and gentle and knows how to make you look like you aren't having a massive stomach cramp and a headache. On the day of our wedding Liza was somehow everywhere and nowhere. When we wanted to take a more posed shot with friends or family we don't get to see often, she was there. I had plenty of time to have fun and spend time with my guests and somehow, magically, there are gorgeous pictures of those moments and I don't remember her taking the picture. She did it all! Liza is incredible. I can't find enough complimentary adjectives with which to describe her. I've never written a review on Yelp before, but I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to write one for Juniper Spring Photography. When my husband and I were searching for a photographer for our wedding in October 2013, we were both shocked at the pricing of some of these wedding packages and not very impressed with the quality of work, until we found Juniper Spring on Yelp. After reading nothing but great and genuine reviews and then checking out Liza's website, we were intrigued and set up a meeting with her. After meeting with her casually at a cafe, we just loved how mellow and super friendly she was. She brought along some examples of her work which showed even more just how talented she really is. There's no denying Liza has an amazing eye for beautiful pictures and capturing those important moments. Above that, her pricing is so reasonable and our package even included a free engagement photo session. For us it was perfect because it was a great way for us to get more comfortable in front of the camera, a chance for Liza to get to know our personalities better, and also a great opportunity to see what the quality of the photos will be for our main event. Liza was great at asking us questions for what our needs were so that everything would go as smoothly as possible on what can be a stressful day. We chose to go with the 2 photographer package and we are absolutely happy we did. Many of the important moments were captured from different viewpoints, and I also liked that while Liza was getting photos of the ladies getting ready, her awesome assistant Hok was getting ones of the guys at the same time and also allowing time for one of them to get pictures of the other details such as the venue setup, flowers, cake, etc. After receiving our final pictures, we were so unbelievably happy with them and felt like we got pictures of EVERYTHING. Especially since we decided not to get a videographer, this was the next best thing because we have pictures of all of our guests having a great time and seeing our wedding and reception from their perspective. So I would highly recommend Liza for any event. She is amazing and so easy to work with and if you're having a wedding, it is worth getting the second photographer.
