Nice medium sized park in Middle Village. Easy to get to from the nearby neighborhoods in central Queens. The park is divided into two sections by 80th Street. The much larger western side has all of the sports fields, courts, playgrounds, facilities, and plenty of seating areas. It's always busy no matter the weather or time of day, with everything from afterschool sports to dog meet-ups to people jogging. The main seating area (above the baseball fields) includes a 9/11 memorial, and on a clear day, you can get a view of the Empire State Building. The smaller eastern section is the quieter, "no active sports" area. It has more trees and a few benches, making it a peaceful spot to sit and relax. There is a walking path that circles and winds through the entirety of Juniper Valley. The outer path on the perimeter is about a mile and a half and makes for a great place to walk or run without having to dodge cars. It's also pretty scenic, with many beautiful brick homes lining the park. read more

Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe @#$!.. It's a nice park but there's always a few stories. Whether it be people riding dirt bikes on the new track, someone's dog running up to your dog because it's unleashed, bicycles passing too close while you're walking... One lady's four year old go hit in the face by some older kids with a water balloon. I think some people have tried to BBQ or set up tables and chairs in the park but you need a permit for things like that. read more

What a gorgeous park! One of the, if not the best maintained park in queens if not nyc! I grew up around here, and until we moved out, I was here almost every day. When I moved back later on, I used it as a nice bike route! There are 2 sides of this park the West and the East. I call the West side the lower part, and the East side the upper part because it is up a hill! The lower side is geared slightly more towards younger kids and where I did most of my stomping as a kid. There is also a track, a football field, a hockey field and 3 baseball fields. The playground here is geared more towards small kids and young kids. There is a nice splash pad that my kid really enjoyed! a kid could spend a whole day here on the really nice equipment. In the central part of the park is another 4 baseball fields. The East side is just as nice! It is geared more towards older kids with a older jungle gym, swings, handball courts, tennis courts, workout zone, shuffle board, ad other stuff. They host summer concerts in the park in the large open area here. There is also a public restroom in the upper park. All in all a beautiful park! Clean up after yourselves. I enjoy coming to Juniper Valley Park. A quick Q47 bus ride and we here. What a great park near the Shops at Atlas Park Mall too. Pretty spacious, has many sections for all sports. I love seeing this group that always claim these two handball courts in the back. When I see the camp chairs, you know you don't stand any chances of infiltrating on those courts. Lol. My favorite feature would have to be the tennis courts. On one end, they have two mini designated tennis courts for the kids. Or maybe it's for pickle ball. Either way, that's not something I see everywhere. Juniper has a couple of playgrounds. There's a huge one by the tennis and basketball section of the park. Not to be confused with the Junesniper Park, which is a place I don't recommend you go in summer, without a bulletproof vest on anyway. In an urban jungle like New York City you can never get enough Parks. This park is one of the better ones in Queens. It's not always clean and not always safe at night, but it's still a fantastic place to bring your family or relax or study. It gets cold in the summer and hot in the winter but then so does your mother. read more

I've been really enjoying this park lately. There are plenty of tennis courts and most importantly at the moment for me there are mini courts to teach my son who has been learning. The playground is also decently shaded and the water area is decent enough to entertain for a while. There's also a big open area for biking and such. I wish this park were in walking distance but luckily the parking is pretty easy in this area as well. read more

I live in Astoria but I drive to Juniper Park with my dog . I usually go there every weekend. My dog loves it there as she can find many other dog lovers and dogs that she can play with. My favorite thing to do there is running. The park is well maintained unlike Astoria park( where I reside). Juniper valley park is clean, well maintained and have a good vibe to it. People are friendly with others pets. Mornings are the best time if you're interested in running or walking your pet. Spring time, fall and summer is lovely to see. You can see the Empire State Building if you sit on the edge of the high slope (hill kind ) I have been coming here since my kids were 7-8. You can also make a small picnic here ( no grill though) I see many people bring blankets, food etc during summer time to enjoy evenings! read more

I absolutely Love this park! It's great for walking, jogging, dog walking, scooter riding, picnicking, baseball, tennis, or just chilling out and relaxing! It's a fantastic size, considering it's a Queens park. There are three baseball fields, a roller hockey rink, tennis courts, a track, a playground for the little ones, a hand ball and bocce ball court (which is currently being renovated), and a delightful green landscape, which seems to last even amongst the colorful fall foliage. There are a bunch of benches and some tables as well. I love watching the cute old Italian men play bocce ball, and the senior citizens who sit at the tables and play cards (or other various senior games). I also love watching all the people walk their dogs. 9 times out of 10, when they hear me owwwwwing and awwwwwing, they ask me if I want to pet the furry, four legged, cutie pie, and of course I sit there and ogle over it! The only thing I strongly DISLIKE about this park is the abundance of pigeons. Obviously, it's not the parks fault, and therefore five stars will remain, but I just can't stand these rat like birds. I don't know anyone who hates pigeons as much as I do. I don't even like the word. It makes me so mad that they always flock to this park. They gross me out terribly and sometimes while I'm here, I think they purposely walk in front of me... SICKENING! I yell and scream, clap my hands, and stomp my feet like a mad woman to get them out of my sight. If there's any commotion in the park, it's probably me trying to scare off these disgusting creatures. I love this park because it's never too crazy. It's always very calm and serene. There's never much of anything going on, just locals hanging out, walking their dogs, getting exercise, or coming to relax. Also, if you look towards the huge open field, you can see the Freedom Tower in the city (check out my pic). Another thing that makes this park great is fact that the bathrooms are half way decent. I mean they're not spectacular, but there's always toilet paper, the smell is minimal, and the sink works. Do beware the last few times I've come here there hasn't been soap. If you haven't been here before I urge you to come check out this lovely park, but please leave your bad habits and rambunctiousness at home (or bring it to Flushing Meadow Corona Park lol). read more

I enjoyed spending the day here. It's a great park to people watch, play, or workout. It doesn't seem to get very crowded at all. Ample parking, so it's a non-issue and is very convenient if you're traveling in packs. It's clean and well maintained. There are two children's playgrounds, swings, baseball lots, basketball, tennis, and handball courts. There are several nice areas where you can enjoy a spot to rest your eyes and tan. Or if you'd rather enjoy the shade there are plenty of benches to sit and chill. Tip: It's a great spot for runners, since you can take advantage of the track field and the entire park. JVP is a very well maintained park. People usually use the garbage pails, for their trash. (Not common in NYC). The grass and flowers, always look good. There are several different fields. The park has two playgrounds, on either end. There is a sprinkler court, that children love. It's very crowded in the summer. The sprinkler court, is near the tennis court. The tennis court, is by permit only. There are Bacci Ball. The same group, of men play each day. There are very passionate about Bacci Ball.. There are a few handball courts. There is a very small area, that some people use for weight lifting, and/or pull ups. There is an outer and inner running track. There are clean bathrooms. They employees are very nice. Overall, there is something for everyone at the park. But, there is something missing from this park, and that's a dog run. There is something from almost everyone, but not K9's. Ofcourse, your dog will still enjoy, walking around the park... But, I strongly feel, this park needs a dog run. However, whenever the issue comes, local politicians argue against it. read more

I love this park! Plenty of parking around. There is a track to run around, softball fields and tons of sidewalk for walking path. It's pretty big in my opinion. The area is nice. Folks that come to this park are respectful. The park is pretty clean. Many dogs are also brought here and it's nice to see that owners pick up after them. Lots of biking, skate borders and runners can be seen enjoying their time here. I like to come for walks and running. Juniper Valley Park is a great place for a run. there are wide, flat, well-maintained paths, and a running track too. no hill workouts like in Astoria Park, but no cracked roads and mud runs like in FMCP. the loop around the bigger part of the park is about 1.3 miles, which is great to get some uninterrupted mileage in. with the recent work in Astoria Park knocking us down one track, it's great to have another option besides the track at Forest Park. and just like at Forest Park, this track also serves as the perimeter for a soccer field, so just take that into consideration when planning your runs (read: weekend runs will likely involve having to dodge/duck/dip/dive/dodge rogue soccer balls). read more

It is so interesting to live not too far to this park so that I can see the usage patterns throughout the week. Like any good park, part of the enjoyment is people watching. The older Italian men playing bocce and cards; young couple strolling; tennis players; handballers and shuffleboard players; bike riders of all ages; dog walkers, I could go on. It is great to have the variety of a quiet park, two playgrounds, grassy areas, a track and large field to enjoy. What this park could use is an enclosed dog run, some concerts or art in the park. From the days of playing baseball in my earlier days in Pony league up through my current exercise regime of long walks, Juniper Valley Park has been a favorite park to frequent. Although the perimeter sidewalks are narrow at points where there can be a people traffic jam with dog walkers, strollers and joggers the open spaces inside the sidewalk are spacious and have been continuously improved. The money and planning that went into the development of the running track was well appropriated and well thought out. Providing the locals with a well lit area to play soccer, run wind sprints or clock a few laps, the track is versitile enough to provide something for everyone. Tennis player? Juniper Valley's got it, just obtain a pass from the Parks Department. A little handball or shooting some hoops sounds like fun? Yes those courts are available and surrounded by big trees and grass that even without a high level of maintained attention, seems to maintain itself. You can picnic in the big open field, hit a wedge, fly a kite or frolic with the dogs, Juniper Valley Park has something for everyone. read more

Juniper Valley Park stretches over more than 55 acres in the heavily residential Middle Village neighborhood. It offers space for baseball, basketball, bocce, football, handball, soccer, tennis, and track. It was long a swamp until Arnold Rothstein, the gangster known for fixing the 1919 World Series during the Black Sox Scandal, bought 88 acres for development. He tried to sell the property to the city as an airport during the 1920s, but he was murdered in 1928, probably due to unpaid gambling debts. In 1931, New York City acquired Juniper Swamp from Rothstein's estate, later converting the property into a public park. Inside scoop: The Pullis Cemetery, which is located near the park off Juniper Boulevard North at 81st Street, has historic landmark status. Thomas Pullis Sr. purchased 32 acres there in 1832 and built the burial ground for his family. read more

I really like Juniper Valley Park. I've been coming here since I was a child. I remember coming here a few times during elementary school. We had some type of end of the school year BBQ/picnic and a bunch of sports activities like relay races, tug of war, and more. As I grew older, I came here about once or twice a week on the weekends to play some baseball with whoever was at the field. The neighborhood kids who played at the baseball field were all pretty friendly and well mannered. I never really bumped into any jerks over here. Today, it's still a nice clean park. There's a bunch of little league soccer games and really wild soccer moms. You can also schedule your driving test with the DMV over here. It's nothing like Flushing Meadow Corona Park where you see a bunch of Mexicans and Indians leaving an abundance of trash behind during their weekly family BBQs at the park.
