Crossen Christmas Tree Farm is a wonderful small business, and if you are looking for a tree this year head on down for great people, great trees, and a great atmosphere. Crossen has a variety of types, shapes and sizes of trees. They have options pre-cut, and plenty that you can chop (or rather saw down) yourselves. They have trees painted purple and blue. Although I can't compare as I've never been to a Christmas tree farm, even when I was a kid we just bought our tree's from a parking lot, what really set Crossen apart was the friendly small town service. From the Merry Christmas's said by everyone, to the guy who properly tied our tree to our car providing the rope and everything, to the offers to help saw our tree, to the reasonable prices (this year every tree was $45), to the free hot chocolate, and Santa visit this place is one we plan to come back to every year and I highly encourage you to do the same!

They provide sleds by the entrance to the tree area of the farm, so you can pull it up to the tree shaker and wrapper easily. They also have precut trees, if you rather not cut it yourself. They have a standard price for all the trees. It was $50 in cash for us - credit is a little more (Dec. 2021). They also have a little store where they sell various things you may need from tree bags to stockings to wreaths and everything in between. They also have commentary hot chocolate for you to enjoy and give candy canes when you pay. Everything in there is priced lower than most other stores. I'd rather go here than Walmart for some of the items for the price! The staff are all friendly and even helped my dad tie the tree to the roof of our SUV. They have a lot of different kinds of plants, trees, etc. It was a lot larger than I'd realized and they have a huge shopping area inside the greenhouse as well as outside. They have quite a variety of plants and they were organized well so it was easy to shop and compare the kind of plants you were looking for. There were nice information tags on every plant to ensure you could find things to match your environment requirements. There are more things to choose from compared to a Home Depot or Lowe's but they are a bit more expensive. In general it seemed kind of expensive to me but I know this stuff isn't cheap. Hard to compare to similar stores because it was my first time.

We went to this nursery last May and bought a bunch of outdoor shrubs/bushes: 6 rhododendrons & 2 roses - spent almost $700 in total! Unfortunately, ALL 6 rhodies died by mid-Fall, and one of the roses didn't make it through the winter. We went back to Urban Roots, bringing receipts + pictures of the dead plants, still in their mulched beds next to healthy others. It was then we first learned that Urban Roots does not guarantee any of their plants, even $69 Rhododendron! This is surprising since most or all nurseries I've been to provide at least 1 year's worth, it's notable that I've only used once in 50+ years! Anyway, selection was solid with all the expected types, and the initial experience was fine. Just beware "PRODUCTS ARE SOLD AS IS!"

The place smells wonderful as soon as you walk in thanks to a table of blooming spring flowers. I was especially impressed at the collection of seeds that included things I have not seen elsewhere (celeriac! red and purple carrots!). There is a large outdoor section too that opens up mid- to late April, depending on weather (not open yet for spring 2025 as of April 19th but will be soon). Outdoors they have trees, shrubs, perennials, bags of soil, and a nice selection of pots. During the winter they mostly have indoor plants and houseplants, so if you need your gardening fix when it's cold out, you can probably find what you're looking for here. The plants all look happy and well cared for. This community garden center is a co-op full of passionate people who truly care about the place and the plants, and it shows. You do not need to be a co-op member to shop there, but it supports the organization so if you end up becoming a regular it is well worth considering. The person I talked to here has worked there for 15+ years and was friendly and very knowledgeable. This is not like the high turnover big-box stores where the staff does not actually care about your garden success.

Technically, the tree was not dead, however, the staff stood behind their 2 year warranty promise and replaced my tree. Sean and Bill were such a pleasure to work with today. They made me feel better about the situation, and are even going to repot the tree I uprooted. I'm 45 minutes away from Northridge, and I would travel even farther to do business with them again. So I looked up a local nursery near West Seneca and found Northridge nursery. I'm so glad I came here! Their herbs were so much bigger and healthy looking. I got 2 Basil, 2 cilantro, 1 parsley, 1 oregano, 1 chives and 1 dill - all 5 dollars each. They also had a better deal on putting soil than Home Depot did. I have a really nice greenhouse and a wide variety of flowers and shrubs. Will definitely be coming back here!
