I almost never leave public reviews, especially negative ones, but this experience left me with no choice. After waiting over two months for an appointment, I brought my daughter Ciara to Dr. Rick Nichols Just for Kids Pediatric Dentistry today. This was supposed to be her first visit. This morning, I received a call from their office asking me to complete two new patient forms. I filled both out online immediately. We then headed to the appointment but ran into unexpected stopped traffic. Wanting to be responsible and respectful of their time, I called the office as soon as we got on the freeway to let them know we might be cutting it close. I was told there was a 10-minute grace period. We arrived within that window. Here's where things went sideways: Despite submitting both forms back-to-back, they claimed they only received one. This seemed highly unlikely given how their system is set up. Instead of helping resolve the issue, I was met with unnecessary rudeness from the front desk staff (I was given two different names: Melody or Isabel), who told me to "hurry up" and re-do the form or risk losing the appointment. I was already doing everything I could, and yet I was treated like I was the problem. Shortly after, I was told that the dentist had decided he would not see Ciara and that we would need to reschedule. No apology. No ownership. No attempt to accommodate or understand. Just a dismissive brush-off. I had already followed all instructions, provided insurance months ago, confirmed the appointment repeatedly, and communicated in real time when we hit traffic. To be dismissed like this, especially in a pediatric setting, is incredibly disappointing. To Dr. Nichols: If you're unaware of how your staff is treating new patients and families, I hope you'll take this as an opportunity to investigate and address it. Your practice came highly recommended by several people we trust (and you know personally outside your practice), and we were genuinely looking forward to this visit. Sadly, our experience was anything but welcoming or acceptable. And to the staff involved: In a family-focused practice, basic kindness and professionalism should not be optional. I will gladly drive farther for a provider who values their patients and not simply a mill pumping out patients. read more

I have taken my three kids here. Awesome experience EVERY TIME. We found them when we lost hope w/ other dentists + our child was very uncooperative. They scheduled us and Dr. Nichols gave us a few options + helped our child get comfortable. No commitment at our first visit & helped us understand that we have time so we can get our son comfortable more. After the experience with one kid, we switched our 2 kids over. I was reminded of Dr. Nichols at my last dentist appointment and thought i should leave a review as a warning to parents. My mom took me to Dr. Nichols for a decade as a child. I was a fearful kid and he was incredibly impatient and scared me to death. After wiggling too much once he told me if i didn't sit still he'd just rip my tooth out. After leaving this office, I didn't go to a dentist for over 11 years because dentists were terrifying to me. It wasn't until I went to my amazing adult dentist that I realized the pain and behavior i experienced at this office was not the standard. He can be a friendly guy to parents, but if you care about how your kids treat their future dental hygiene don't take them to this guy. read more

Dr Nichols was my dentist when I was a kid and I always felt so comfortable with him and actually liked going to the dentist. I always knew I would only bring my own children to him when I became a mom. Well now, three kids later, I can say that after both being his patient and being a parent of his patients, he is the best. Him and his staff are patient, kind, and so great with kids. Everyone is welcoming and my children love going to see him as I did. His office is always bursting with decorations and color and everything is so fun and kid friendly. Additionally, my almost two year old son chipped his tooth during the holidays and not during business hours. I texted the number he provides for after hours and he responded immediately and asked me to send a picture of the chipped tooth to him. He reassured me and then fixed my son's tooth and it looks amazing. You can't even tell it was damaged. Dentist is actually a nice man, he is the reason we drive further, we are typically very punctual for all appointments for the kiddos even have waited when they are running behind. One visit I got off work a little late ( darn first responder schedule) add rainy weather and made it 11 min late for my 2 kiddo's appointments. They refused to see them so just an fyi if you are running past the 10min mark they won't see you. We will have to find a closer dentist to home for situations like these. One receptionist said she would check if they could be seen another chimed in and said no you could have them wait until 9am to see if those patients show. It would have been nice to check at least. We have been coming here since my oldest was small, we now have 2 more that are in his care. He is extremely personable and makes my kids feel so comfortable, he's so good at explaining things and keeping them calm which is so huge for our oldest, she went in so scared and now they all love coming to the dentist and look forward to it. My three year old has strong vocal cords that we used to wear ear plugs when he cried. Finding a good toddler-appropriate dental office was important to me because I really don't want to hear more crying from my son more than I do everyday but at the same time I wanted him to have a good foundation for his mouth and teeth. The office is on the second floor of the mansion-looking building. Parking is free and there's plenty of it. When you walk in, you immediately here conversations between the staff and the children so they're very engaging with the kids. The office looks very kid-friendly. In the exam room, we had a choice to sit on the dental chair or bench so I chose the bench for comfort. Dr. Nichols and his assistants knew exactly how to approach my 3 y/o. First with distance. They knew not to approach him closely right away otherwise he would freak out and start crying and refuse everything...it would have been a nightmare. But then Dr. Nichols guided me on how to hold him while he examined my sons teeth and as he examined his teeth, he was showing me when he was looking for. My son didn't get an X-ray and appreciate Dr Nichols for deferring it as it was not necessary at this time for my son to be exposed to unnecessary radiation at a young age. Best part, my son left without whining, crying, or screaming! My son also appreciated getting a sticker and a toy at the end of the visit. When he got home, he played with his new toy for hours and brushed his teeth with his new toothbrush and toothpaste. Needless to say I'm impressed. That says something. read more

I have taken my kids here for 13 years . I have never had an issue with ANY of the staff members. They have all been kind EXCEPT for this new girl "Elena". She is extremely stuck up and rude, has a Sh***y attitude and is extremely unprofessional. I've spoken to her several times and she is short, unhelpful and unpleasant to say the least. The dentist is a jerk.. he'll have the kids wiggle their fingers when they hurt and then gets upset when they do it.. for being a child dentist he doesn't have much patience and gets upset at kids easily.. I almost ended the visit a few time after seeing how he spoke to both my son and daughter.. he also put fillings in my daughters tooth and they have already fell out! I'm scheduling an appointment for a decent dentist than coming back here.. don't bring your kids here. read more

Any of these bad reviews I'm shocked. We've had several tooth issues with our 3 yr old. She needed the whole shebang if you can imagine. They were extremely supportive with how and why the issues happened. Helped me to try to prevent having future issues with our new little one. While there were complications(not fault of the team, genetic or what not). Dr Nichols, his team, and Dr Kaloff were so supportive guided us through what to do. Stayed in contact. Did I also mention how wonderful they were with our threenager, who is also very shy and scared of others. Especially men. Do not hesitate to come to see Dr Nichols! Coming from first timers of kids and dentistry. I wish I had, such a great doctor growing up. Would have made my anxiety with dentistry obsolete as a child. I am sooooo happy there are other people that go above and beyond Our 2 year old had a really bad fall and he busted his lip so bad and twisted a tooth and pushed one back a bit. We took him to urgent care and were told to contact a pediatric dentist for tooth damage and possibly a plastic surgeon got his lip we were freaking out, especially because he can't eat unless he's had a dose of pain medication. We couldn't handle the uncertainty of waiting until Monday, feeling we hadn't done enough for our baby. So I googled an emergency pediatric dentist and I found Just for Kids Pediatric Dentistry in Redlands. I called the emergency number listed and Dr.Nichols answered right away! He was ready to have us come in at 8:30 pm on a Saturday night if it was deemed necessary!! He had us send some pictures and answer some questions and determined it's not an emergency and he will see him Monday morning. we weren't even existing patients!!!!! Such dedication is amazing!!! Honestly, my first encounter was my worst experience in healthcare. We have a family "masks required indoors" policy. My son is medically vulnerable. My kids were being kids and having a hard time wearing their masks that day. I was not expecting a healthcare waiting room to be "masks optional" as most healthcare facilities required masking at that time. We chose to wait in the hall instead of going inside because my kids were having difficulty masking that day. Masking shouldn't be political but it became that way. My actions to back away from unmasked staff who approached my son were misinterpreted as disregard for their practice policies. The staff threatened to kick us out of the practice. Fortunately she had to call the Dr. to finalize the action. When he came to talk to us, I was able to state my view that "Parent's Choice" should go both ways. I was not infringing on anyone else's rights or insisting that they change their waiting room policy by choosing to make my own accommodations and wait in the hallway instead. He did decide to honor our request that staff who approach us should be masked when they bring us to the treatment area. I appreciate it when people of differing views are able to come to a mutual understanding and win-win solution. I respect Dr. for being a man of character enough to treat people who hold a different perspective with the respect they deserve. I wanted to wait to post my review until after I had a second visit. My second visit they gave me no problems. I continued to choose to wait in the hall (because kids are unpredictable with consistent mask wearing) and they treated us appropriately. I do firmly believe that health professionals wearing masks during medical treatment procedures is the best way to allow access to care for the medically vulnerable. Glad we could work out our differences. This facility would be a breath of fresh air for families who do not like public masking policies. For families who prefer a masked public to ensure safety during interactions, you may wish to be aware before your visit. If you do have a medically vulnerable child, perhaps calling ahead so that they are aware of how to accommodate your parental choice would be best as they naturally lean toward mask-less side of the spectrum. read more

Wow!! I don't even know where to start!!! My daughter and I had such a great experience here at "just for kids" I have had so much anxiety bringing her to a dentist due to her getting so nervous about the doctors. We walked in and instantly felt welcomed!! The front desk girl walks to the back and says "OUR FRIEND IS HERE!!" And you hear everyone say HI!! Literally just melted my heart!! They called us back and my daughter was pretty timid at 1st but instantly felt comfortable. Normally she has a tough time with males in general but she was so very comfortable with him! She popped up to go get pictures of her teeth and listen to every direction given to her then came back to sit down and sat through her teeth cleaning!! I'm so impressed at how well she did but I couldn't have been done without their kindness,and welcoming demeanor!! At the end she even gave dr Rick a big hug!!!
