I've been coming to this dentist for over 10 years and always had a good experience with Dr. Dan, which is why this is so disappointing to write. My last three visits have been very negative, but this most recent one was unacceptable. I was told my 5-year-old son has a severe infected tooth that needs to be removed ASAP, yet because he was scared and crying during X-rays, they said they "couldn't do it in office" and simply referred us elsewhere. I explained that I actually work for that institution, so I know their scheduling policies -- they do NOT see sick patients and require weeks of waiting. Since my son currently has a cold, this means it could take 6-8+ weeks before he can even be scheduled. When I asked what other options we had for a small child with an active infection, I was told I would need to "do my own research." For a young child in pain, I expected more urgency, guidance, and care. I left feeling discouraged and very disappointed. Sadly, I can no longer recommend this office and will be looking for a new dentist. read more

I'm disappointed with this place since it was so highly reviewed. The staff is very kind, but the patient education was so poor. I took my 13-month old for her first dental appointment and I expected general orientation/advice for toddler oral care. I didn't receive any information unless I asked the questions. The place was poorly lit and didn't feel welcoming for kids. I don't know what to expect for a first dental visit, but I expect more patient education and for the appointment to last longer than 5 minutes. Just so disappointed. read more

I was referred here by another children's dental office that was not taking new patients, but the way that this office conducts business is a SCAM. I have been to 3 different children's dental offices in the past week. This one was by far the most unfriendly and most hostile experience of all. It started with my call to set the appointment --the office person insisted on taking my medi-cal number before even booking an appointment. She refused to even offer me an appointment time until I could provide the medi-cal number (I had to call several places to finally retrieve it) and she insisted that I would need to present the physical card to have a follow up appointment (even though I explained i had already requested a replacement weeks ago). The other offices accepted my son's Social Security card without any issues --this is the only office that hassled me over it. In addition, I did explain that I was looking to have some TIME SENSITIVE work done because my son's tooth cap/crown had just fallen off and we needed it fixed ASAP. She stated the doctor would have to assess it before she could determine if it's something she could fix --but there was absolutely NO mention over the phone that the next available appointment for ANY kind of work would be in the middle of OCTOBER! The other offices I visited always offered to do the work same-day. For time-sensitive situations like cavities, it seems absurd to diagnose tooth decay and then ask the patient to wait to come back THREE WEEKS LATER when the issue could get increasingly worse. I was instructed to fill out all the forms online prior to my appointment and was texted a link --it sounded like it would be efficient, but some of the questions were invasive and unnecessary... like, why do they need a "profile picture" of my child uploaded to their system? They also wanted pictures of the front and back of my driver's license, along with my son's social security number. This is a lot of personal information to provide to a facility I have not even set foot in yet. Driving up to the building, the parking was bad and it was very confusing to find the office. Walking into the office, the room was tiny and not kid friendly except for a Winnie the Pooh mural and a small TV. Neither I nor my child were greeted or welcomed. I was told to sign yet another couple of documents --one where I had to EXPLAIN WHY I didn't have my medi-cal card in-hand (again, why are they so fixated on the physical card??) and a separate form stating that "only the patient and ONE parent is allowed in the office" (no siblings, second parent, etc) which I also found to be odd. Based on previous reviews, I was hoping the nurses had exceptional customer service skills or "bedside manner" with the kids... the nurse that assisted me was cold and matter-of-fact. She did not engage my child or barely even talk to him while she performed the X-rays. When the dr finally appeared, she was pleasant and knowledgeable, but seemed to have no understanding of her own schedule. I asked if she could fix my son's crown that same day and she said the front office would let me know what was available and if she had any time slots. Again, customer service was sorely lacking. When I finally got in front of an office person, she said she could not schedule me an appointment until I could provide the physical Medi-cal card --she suggested I go the county office to get a temporary card and then I could call back to set up an appointment (and although I was willing to take the extra step, the suggestion showed an absolute lack of regard for my time). I told her I would be willing to pay out-of-pocket if necessary and she insisted I would need the medi-cal card to proceed. I even offered to have Medi-cal call their office to confirm my son's benefits but she said even that was not enough proof (which is, again, absurd and completely unnecessary). When she finally explained that she didn't even have an open appointment until October, I felt completely DUPED and like I had wasted my entire afternoon for an answer she could have given to me on the phone when I had called the day before. She also suggested I could keep calling back to see if they had cancellations (only after obtaining a temporary medi-cal card), but that she could not guarantee anything before the weekend --ALL THAT HASSLE for the office visit to be completely useless. Absolutely no regard for my time or my son's dental "emergency". I would not refer ANYONE here and am considering reporting them to the BBB. I just hope SOMEONE eventually calls them out on their BS. read more

I've been coming here for over 5 years the place was very good until recently. Got to my kids appointment 15 minutes early signed in on the sheet provided took them to the restroom and sat in the waiting room. 2 other families checked in after us we all had the same appointment times and they were called back, apparently the receptionist never checked my kids in. Make sure you talk with someone don't rely on her to check the sign in sheet. read more

The office is very modern looks very clean! Dentist is great and very patient. Only one thing that really bothers me is the whole waiting in the hallway situation! It's very irritating having to call and wait outside. I understand COVID precautions and all that stuff but having over 10 people waiting outside the office all together is kinda the same thing. Also they won't let you in until all the consent forms are filled out. Had to wait outside call the office 3 times to make sure they received the forms. It's just a little too much! read more

The reviews are what led me to this place. My experience however was not five star. My son went here and needed some work done. He had been traumatized by another dentist in the past. He needed a lot of work done and because in the past he was able to have it done with the laughing gas I thought it would be okay. When they began the work he was so scared and they couldn't see that. Instead they offered their opinion about how he doesn't like loud noises and said he was a behavior issue. Not once has my child ever been labeled as a behavior issue. Next time try focusing on patients comfort instead of trying to offer a diagnosis on what you think he has. I was accused of no show appointments. They cancelled on me due to COVID-19 reasons but blame it on me. She says Ill help this time but you cannot keep on doing no shows. Umm your office was closed starting pandemic of March 2020. They have canceled appointments then. I have never cancel an appointment but one time in August. Oh i let them know. I dont like to be accused. I was beginning to like this office but the staff is ugly with their choice of words. I hope they read their damn reviews. read more

One parent per family "policy" is completely unnecessary and doesn't make any sense in the process. It's unacceptable and there's no excuse for such policy.Please consider changing this to one parent per patient like even major hospitals have. My son was very excited to have his daddy with him during his dentist visit. It was talked about the whole trip to the dentist because my son and daughter love the experience of mommy and daughter and daddy and son. During our wait in the lobby I witnessed the inconvenience of this policy on other parents as well. Both our children had the same time appointment and when we were called in only my daughter was allowed in...leaving my son in the lobby with my husband. As my daughter and I waited...I see my son going into a separate room with my husband sitting in a chair next to him. Then my husband was asked to leave? How does it make sense to call both kids in separated then ask my husband to leave? Leaving me standing in the middle of both rooms being asked different questions while trying to pay attention to both appointments looking at an empty chair where obviously my husband could of been answering questions for my son and helping him. My sons first dental visit so he screamed bloody murder but the dentist was so patient and understanding as well as the dental assistant they were both very kind! Leaving one star because I cannot leave zero. I have been going here for five years and have loved my experience so far but my most recent experience has left me very disappointed in the office and the staff. My five year-old son who has a disability needed to use the restroom, but due to their policy of one parent per family, I was by myself with my other two children in another room, holding my child while the dentist was working on him and my five-year-old came over needing to use the restroom and they refused to let him use the one in the office that is in the hallway because they said it is for employees and I have to walk into a business hallway lobby to use a public restroom and he ended up having an accident on himself. Then was still asked to sit down for the rest of his appt to be seen by the doctor. No one apologized or offered help. My son was so embarrassed walked out holding himself to cover. For this office to be a pediatric office and to have a bathroom in the hallway with the door open and lights on and no one use it and to refuse him using it when he's standing there doing his potty dance is crazy to me. I will not be returning & I will never refer anyone else here. read more

He even allowed me to take my Girl Scout troop (Brownies) to his facility to give them a tour. 12 loud children and he didn't bat an eye! I can't say enough about this place. Amazing! My son had traumatic previous experience with a different dentist office and was so nervous and scared. Let me tell you, these people are so patient, kind, soft spoken, explained every step to my son (surprises and weird noises for kids is never good), understanding, quick, no lobby wait (they don't over book people and make you wait), very clean, fun themed, all staff walk around with smiles truly meant to work with peds, I highly recommend this place. I have 2 little ones and our previous experience at other dental office have been traumatic... we walked in here feeling nervous, anxious and my lil one was so afraid... YES afraid! They send all paperwork needed ahead of time and I love that because as a mom on the go this expedites the process and I find it super efficient. We got there and the first thing I loved was how we were welcomed in and the staff was amazing I explained that my nervous daughter was there and shared the traumatic experience she had ... they told me "Don't worry mom we will take care of her" and they did my 2 lil ones were so good while getting checked and they really took care of my nervous one by being patient, caring for her feelings and making her feel comfortable. I love it!!! My heart was full when they both walked out and said they were really nice huh? We have been part of this amazing office for over a year and I WILL NOT go anywhere else. We love Dr. Dan and his staff!! They are something magical to be able to get my 2 year old to sit still and get his teeth checked/cleaned. Dr. Dan was the one that clued me into the fact that my daughter's tonsils needed to come out; I never would have even had the thought to do it and her pediatrician missed an issue for all 6 years of her life. She sleeps so much better and is much more rested every day, all because of her dentist! Kid was having other issues that I didn't realise were issues; Dr. Dan picked up on them right away and we were able to take steps to correct them. He is super! I'm not sure why this dentist has so many good reviews. When my husband didn't select the right dental plan during open enrollment we were forced to find a new dentist for our son. This place has great review and accepted our insurance so we scheduled an appointment. It took over a month to get in, when we got there they had us waiting in the hallway for over half an hour. When they took us back, they put us in a room, did x rays in the same room, waited another half an hour for exam, then he got his "cleaning". They charged our insurance for a "cleaning" but all that the dental hygienist did was brush my sons teeth with a toothbrush, and floss with disposable placker flossers, then threw the toothbrush she used on him in a bag to take home. We now have to dispute the "cleaning" with our insurance and our son will not be able to get 2 proper cleanings this year as a result of their negligence. DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more

My kids have been going to this dentist for the last 3 years. It had always been a good experience, until our last visit (that's why I am giving them 3 stars instead of one) I had 3 appointments, and was supposed to fill out paperwork online. I was unable to fill the forms since my insurance doesn't provide cards and the form will not let you continue without pictures of the card. I tried calling the office, but there was no answer, I think they changed their number because they are usually good at answering the phone. The person at the front desk told me she would "allow " me to put in the form that I didn't have insurance which made me uncomfortable. I explained that I didn't want to do that, that I would fill out paper forms to explain, but she refused. Since I didn't want to sign the online forms, that make me responsible for paying for something that my insurance covers, they didn't see my kids. I am so disappointed that they didn't care to provide a different solution. Losing 3 clients over forms is stupid, luckily I found another dentist with better front desk personnel. read more

My grandsons love this place! Very kid friendly and the dentists are excellent! One of my grandsons is Autistic and previously had to have general anesthesia for his dental work. They have helped him overcome his fears with gentleness and lots of patience and understanding, and he is now able to relax and allow them to work. Thankfully, he has had no cavities since we got him, so it has just been cleaning so far. The older one gets the Nitrous Oxide, so he's also very comfortable getting his work done. Each Exam Room is colorfully painted and has an HDTV overhead to keep the children occupied. The Waiting Room has a large HDTV as well as about six iPads on the walls at various heights. The dentist Daniel Morgan is amazing! He made it very easy and fun for my 22 month old, so much he didn't want to leave! He explained everything and made it an enjoyable experience for us parents, also. He's kind and has a great personality. Started my children at this office because of Dr. Wyatt. We saw her once and were assigned to a different dentist without be told. We always received good care there until yesterday. We had an emergency but could not be seen because our "assigned Dentist" was not in the office. I scheduled an appointment for the next day, but my child was in so much pain I went to a previous office Dr. Wyatt practiced at and my child was taken of. My daughter loves, and I mean LOVES, going to the dentist ever since we started seeing Dr. Dan when they first opened the practice. I just booked her next annual checkup yesterday and when I told her about it she starting going on and on about how much she loves their office & how nice everyone is to her. There have been a couple new faces through the years, regarding staff, but for the most part, they've all stayed consistent & they obviously pay attention to who they hire because the girls are all nice and attentive to the kids. (I have a second tot that I bring now too)...I remember the first time I was trying to take her in, their office wasn't actually open yet but Dr. Dan himself gave me a quick little tour of the office and told me about himself & what he envisioned once the place was actually running. I was impressed so much that I decided to wait and see him once they were open. About 2-3 wks. The place was perfectly new & clean then & now (a few years later) they still do a great job of keeping everything clean. (I can't stand dirty practices..especially pediatrics) They have a cute Winnie the Pooh theme al around the place, color themed rooms, a waiting room for parents near the child's exam room while they get their X-rays done, IPads in the actual waiting room for kids to keep entertained, they play new movies on the tv screens, and they send your kid home with a balloon or little toy & toothbrushing goodie bag at the end of their visit. Dr. Dan has always been very explanatory about the things that are necessary or might happen down the road (like in our case, no real cavities but braces will be in the future) and he even takes the time to make sure the kids aren't rushed and feel comfortable with all that's being done. I haven't dealt with the other dentist there now, but I can only imagine she has to be a similar kind of person. So long story short, you can't go wrong with visiting Lil' Smile Builders, I recommend them all the time. They make it feel more personable than most, heck, even compared to their actual pediatrician, and that's sometime I value. read more

My 4yr old son and 2 yr old daughter didn't even realize they were at the dentist with the ipads,books, tv's on the ceilings and friendly staff keeping them entertained. The facility is very clean with all the updated amenitites for the staff and patients to enjoy. Dr. Shin is amazing and all staff is awesome! Took my 7 year old in today for a tooth extraction and he did excellent! I've taken him to another dentist before and the experience, let's just say left him traumatized. But since his been seen by Dr. Shin he's always been calm. I love how gentle Dr. Shin is and explains step by step what she was doing. I definitely recommend this dentistry to have your children seen and/or get treatment.
