Sadly, it looks like this store has gone the way of all flesh. I had developed a relatively…read morefriendly acquaintanceship with the owner Ed over the years that I've shopped here, but I knew business wasn't good. Like the old video-rental stores, camera shops specializing in 35mm photography seem in danger of becoming extinct. This particular establishment was a hold out, and I had hoped (as I expressed in the initial review) that it would continue on in spite of the odds (when I first started patronizing it, it was located on the opposite side of this shopping center, which is directly across the street from where the old Flea Market used to be...I used to buy a lot of bootleg Sex Pistols and NY Dolls albums there back in the day...but I digress...). I've abandoned my 35mm camera in favor of I-Phone and Smart-Phone photography, but I still came to this store on occasion because they sold Pioneer 12 x 12 EZ-Load "Memory Book" photo albums and their ancillary refills, which are pretty hard to come by (I collect autographed 8 by 11 "movie star" photographs, as well as blow-ups of my old photographs, and copies of original family photographs that my genetic family has been generous enough to lend to me). The proprietor, Ed, was always very friendly and upbeat, but also frank. He indicated that rents in the area were very, very high, and that there wasn't enough business to support such high rents. Still, he seemed determined to hang on, and I was glad to see his persistence. A few months ago, though, I stopped here, and the store was closed. A sign indicated that Ed had had surgery and would return when he had recuperated. I had an ominous feeling about it. As my late grandmother used to say, and say with unnerving frequency, "Live in hope; die in despair." (And people wonder why I'm so gloomy? But, anyway...) I returned today. The signs are all gone; the store is dark and empty. Everything has been removed. I feel bad, as I felt when Camera One of Morristown (I had been a regular patron there from the days when I first got into photography and they had their store at Olcott Square, Bernardsville) closed its doors. I haven't been patronizing Shutterbug Ed's for as long as I patronized Camera One, but he was a good guy struggling to make a living and provide quality service in a business that seems to be unfortunately heading in the direction of video-rental and independent bookstores. Ed was a decent, hard-working guy, and I wish him well.

Had a horrible experience with such a nasty old man, presumably the owner. I went in to buy trash…read morestickers and asked if I could please have a plastic bag because it was raining and he said "I don't make money off of these so no. You can put these in your purse though, they fold, can you handle that?" I was so taken aback, he has such a nasty and condescending attitude. Try to avoid this place if you can.

I have been getting my film developed and scanned here for some time now and this place never…read moredisappoints! The turnaround time is also very quick!! Richie is welcoming and knowledgeable. He's always willing to help whenever I have questions about my cameras.

What a scam! The man in here recommended getting scans immediately and I figured it's the…read moregeneration but it was out of pure laziness. After ONE WEEK, he shared scans that literally looked like my kid figured out the scanner for the first time. So I called in and asked for them to be printed. He said "well these are half frames and I let it slide". I do not work here. You didn't break down pricing. You asked why I was there. I said to drop off film. He charged me. ???? You could have called me and charged extra if YOU realized YOU made a mistake. After this, I asked for them to be printed & he said well you have to place a deposit. Is he out of his bird? Please look at the photos. I don't care about the film in itself. You see scan lines, the scanner bed. It would genuinely look better if I took a photo of the picture itself from my phone. I'm cracking up that he wouldn't immediately offer anything. Even one roll for free out of the two dropped off, maybe even a discount charge of the amount spent on the scans, NOT A THING. Dooooo not support this business by any means! On top of that, he blamed the camera. Sorry. Again, I know my camera and I know the quality . The same cameras he's boasting in front of his literal store but did I say take better photos for me??? I'm saying you're denying your reflections in scans? The poor digital quality, the SCANNER BED and all? I'm so disgusted. Everything in Jersey city is a scam. If you actually want to try and see the difference in quality and seasoned pros in development, who won't blame a camera for their laziness -- please try NICE FILM CLUB just ONE time and I promise you won't be back here in your lifetime. You mail it in and they will have scans to you in 3 days lol
