What is the point of amazing decorations, flowers and food if there is no one there to capture the moment? After researching hundreds of local photographers, we narrowed the list to our top five based solely on their online photo galleries. Chris was the first one we scheduled a meeting with, and we ended up booking him the next day. Chris's philosophy at Shepard Photography matched our style perfectly; simple, clean and modern. We could not be happier with our choice. Chris includes an engagement session with all of his wedding packages, and at first we thought about trying to ask him to cut it out to save a little money. I am so glad we did not though, because the engagement session really was a great way to get comfortable with being photographed in a less stressful setting. As the wedding date neared, we met with Chris again. This time he wanted to check out the wedding site to get a better feel for what we were looking for in the final product. In that same day we traveled the extra half hour to our hotel where we planned on taking our wedding party photos. Throughout this meeting we put together a schedule for the big day and came up with a list of the photos we would like to have. We left that meeting feeling very confident that we had picked the perfect photographer for us. As the day neared the inevitable changes to the schedule needed to be made. Chris was great taking those changes, adjusting the schedule and getting us revised copies quickly. When the day finally arrived, Chris and his assistant/wife Angela were we right on time (unlike some other parts of our wedding entertainment). Chris was excellent working with our planner/caterer to make sure that everything moved along according to schedule. Seeing his past work and watching his professionalism had a calming effect on us during that stressful day. We knew that even if everything else didn't go perfectly we were going to get fantastic photos. We received over 400 pictures from Chris of our big day and they are fantastic! We would highly recommend him to any couples looking for a wedding photographer.

I know lovebirds don't like to think about what might happen if your wedding is cancelled or…read morepostponed ... but please make note of Chris' non-refundable clause in his contract. The deposit is non-refundable and the remaining balance is due in full if a cancellation is within 6 months of the wedding. Earlier this year, my wedding was called off 5 months out, and my family lost out on $3,000. He said he might consider refunding $2,000 of it if he was able to re-book the date and if I submitted a signed cancellation notice, but after I did so and paid the balance in full, I never heard from him again. After hearing me say such great things about Chris from our initial meeting, my mom found it hard to believe that he might not at least offer *some* service in exchange for the $3,000 he collected, such as a family portrait session. But when she reached out to him to inquire about it, her email went unanswered. In the interest of full disclosure, here's an excerpt from one of Chris' emails as to why he maintains the non-refundable clause: "I do need to protect my income, like most wedding venders, I have one to two cancelations a year. Even one wedding is a significant part of my income for my family. Since everything is booked up so far in advanced it is hard to fill cancelled dates with less than 6 months before the wedding." I scouted this guy for two years before asking him to shoot our wedding because I was so impressed with his talent behind the lens. I'm sorry to say I wasn't as impressed with his people skills. Please consider EVERYTHING when planning your wedding, folks. Even the "what ifs" ...

Mr. Reed came to my home to take pictures, pictures turned out all right, we used them in my home listing. For personal reasons I had to take my home listing down after only two days, when I got everything sorted I decided part of the issue was that I needed a realtor that was an expert in the area I was selling, so I decided to go with a different realtor. We bought the pictures from Mr. Reed so that my first realtor didn't have to pay any money out of pocket, we wanted to do the right thing. After purchasing the pictures we believed those pictures were now ours so we used them with the second realtor, in the second home listing. David is an independent contractor, and we were still using the pictures for a real estate listing, purchased the pictures so there should have been no problem. My house was now active again. We are so excited as it's a very hot market and we are needing to get this house sold so we can buy our new home very soon. Not even a day passes and we are getting rude email exchanges from Mr. Reed demanding we take down the pictures immediately, he also gave a refund we did not ask for it. We were very confused. After getting a little more information, he said he did not give us permission to use the pictures with a different realtor, and he did not like the fact that we decided to go with someone else. You see, my first realtor and Mr. Reed are friendly, and have worked together many times before. He also reached out to my new realtor and we had to take my listing off the market again, scramble to find a new photographer last minute. I called two different real estate photography agencies, explained the situation and both companies asked me the photographer I was referencing. I let them know and they were shocked. My realtor, also shocked. It was expressed that had never been seen before, that it was highly unprofessional, and that between her letting Mr. Reed know that I relisted with someone else, and his fondness of her, they were going to punish us. That's how it felt, like we were being punished like children. For future reference, just know Mr. Reed has no problem randomly refunding you whether your home is active on the market or not and demanding his pictures get taken down. Something tells me this might not be the first time this has happened? Not sure. Thank goodness my current realtor is super on the ball and we already have new pictures merely one day later so I can get relisted, He mentioned he needed to pull some strings as that was incredibly short notice but he said he genuinely felt bad that there are people in the industry giving others a bad name. Again, this is all my opinion based on my personal experience.
