"I wish I could give zero stars. This was one of the most upsetting customer-service experiences I have ever had, particularly because it involved my 91-year-old mother." I made an appointment for my 91-year-old mother, who has severe arthritis and significant mobility issues, with Vincent Campbell on July 16. Getting her to an appointment is no small undertaking. It requires considerable effort to get her out of the house, transport her, and bring her into the office in a wheelchair. When I made the appointment, my mother was not yet in the system. Vincent Campbell was at the desk, so I called my mother on my phone and had her provide him directly with her insurance information and the other information needed to create her patient record. He then returned my phone and gave me an appointment card for 2:00 p.m. When we arrived for the appointment, I was told that the office had checked my mother's insurance and determined that she did not have eye coverage through Humana. I asked whether anyone had contacted her for additional information. The doctor, who overheard the conversation, said that she had called multiple times. When I asked what number she had called, she read back my phone number. I checked my phone records, and there were no calls from Chen Optical. After I pointed this out, Vincent said he would send an email to Eye Care to establish that my mother did have coverage. Shortly afterward, the situation was somehow resolved and my mother was determined to have eye coverage after all. By that point, however, her 2:00 p.m. appointment had been given away. I asked whether there was any possibility of fitting her in. Vincent said he would try to see her between the next two patients and indicated it would take approximately half an hour. Because getting my mother to the office is such a tremendous physical effort, we decided to wait. We waited. And waited. At approximately 3:15 p.m.--more than an hour after her scheduled appointment and after at least four other patients had been seen--my mother said she thought we should make another appointment. I commented to her that since we had already gone through so much effort to get there, perhaps we should wait a little longer. Vincent overheard me and responded rudely, even though we were not speaking to him. My mother, understandably upset, said, "Excuse me, sir, we were not talking to you." At that point, Vincent became enraged and ordered us to leave the office. He told us that we should never come back again. This was my 91-year-old mother--an elderly woman with severe arthritis and mobility issues who had already endured the considerable physical ordeal of getting to the appointment. The appointment was mishandled because of an insurance issue that was apparently resolved only after I questioned it. Her appointment was then given away, we waited for more than an hour, and when my mother finally expressed that she wanted to reschedule, we were treated with hostility and thrown out. I am sharing this so that other families--particularly those caring for elderly, disabled, or mobility-impaired relatives--can make an informed decision before choosing this office. Professionalism, patience, and basic courtesy should not be too much to expect from an optical office. Unfortunately, that was not our experience at Chen Optical. read more

This receptionist that works at this location has to be the most rudest, absurd employee that I've ever spoke to. She kept over talking me when I'm trying to explain that she does take my insurance. She refused to speak to my insurance company when they called her. And then on the second call that my insurance company and my myself were on she abruptly hung up on both of us. Time for the annual eye exam and my wife picked this spot since it's nearby our house, and the doctor is Asian. Thought it was easy to make the appointment, but as it turns out, we had to wait a few weeks before the first available spit. It's either they are doing pretty good business, or weekend spots are hard to get. However, we find it very easy to check in when we arrived. The staff was pretty friendly and checked us in pretty quick without any delays. Maybe it has something to do with our appointment being at 10am. Nevertheless, the staff did their job. Surprisingly, the doctor was able to see us at about 10:05am, which is remarkable! She was pretty friendly and helpful, answered all the questions my wife and I had. And really took her time to examine us. I was afraid my vision is going out of whack as I get older. Luckily it hasn't gone worse since my last eye exam so I don't require new prescription glasses at this time. My wife's vision is still pretty good, but she got a new pair of reading glasses to help her with reading magazines and newspapers. And they are easy to deal with on insurance too. The staff explained to us about our co-pays and helped my wife with a pair of reading glasses that fits her perfectly. We only paid $15.00 out of pocket for them which is cool. I'd definitely recommend anyone looking for an eye doctor to see Dr. Chen. read more

Dr. Chen is a true professional willing to spend as much time as necessary to explain your eye care. Although Dr. Chen was not treating my stye, she took the time to explain why we get styes and how to avoid them. Dr. Chen has always given me the correct prescription. I have never had a problem. It is a delight to deal with this practice. Vincent. the Optician in that office, goes the extra mile fitting me with glasses that are good for my skin color and head shape. It's not even worth a star. My first time. I came in with my two kids one of them is 18 months. My toddler was trying to play when the stuff told rudely that he can't play he should sit down on a chair and play,A 18 month old toddler??? Ppl who have kids will understand that a 18 month old will never sit quietly and play. Plus that man in the front desk just kept on telling how I should not bring a toddler with me. My husband and I have been going to Dr Chen for years. She has always been excellent. I've been wearing glasses most of my life. We go out of our way to go to her because we've consistently had great results. Vincent is above and beyond excellent with his knowledge and expertise in picking and ordering glasses. Over a lifetime of wearing glasses I've experienced glasses coming back from the lab with wrong prescriptions, lens cracking, glasses malfunctioning, and more. The details of my many dealings with them are too many and to long to type here. The final phone call was the last straw as when I tried to explain to the Doctor the many issues I was having she cut me off, would NOT let me explain and then asked me to pick up the glasses and not return, as if this comedy of errors was MY fault, absolutely incredible. Extremely rude staff my mother an elder ask for frame prices the female receptionist said to check herself that each Frame has the price !!! I have never been treated so rudely in my life! My father went into have a plastic piece fixed on his glasses. He was talking with a young lady, when a rude arrogant person at the desk yelled it will be 3 to 5 business days. My father did not realize this person was talking to him. The rude arrogant person yelled at my father again " it's going to be 3 to 5 business days do you want to leave them or what? My father I'm sure stood up for himself as best as possible and ended up leaving. He was also told to never come back! If something would of happened to my 75 year old father on his way home I would be beyond writing a bad review on Google. I've been a patient of Dr. Chen for at least 12 years and I can actually say she is courteous and very professional, and her office staff is more than accommodating when it comes to appointments and any other matter! It's unfortunate that some individuals have given this office and Dr. Chen horrible reviews when in fact this office and Dr. Chen are very good at their jobs! I personally have witnessed an incident where some of these individuals have demonstrated bad behavior and used inappropriate language towards some of the office staff, and I've always said nobody should have to put up with bad behavior and inappropriate language coming from ANYBODY! Please keep in mind in today's society we have a large percentage of people that think that the world revolves around them, I call it the ME and ME society (It's all about them)! THE ABSOLUTE WORST! I made an appointment with this office as they are in network. I arrived for my appointment (on time) ... 1/2 hour later I was called in by a doc whom I assume was Dr. Chen (she didn't bother to introduce herself)... we raced through the vision exam, did not allow me to explain my concerns and special considerations. Any time I tried to discuss anything she would cut me off. Then suddenly, "this is your prescription"... I asked her "for what?" as we hadn't discussed any of my special concerns which would certainly affect the type of glasses I need. She still would not adequately explain what this was for, but said only "for your glasses, discuss it with the optician". Optician? Huh??? Then when I tried again , she rudely accused me of interrupting and not letting her explain. This woman is curt, rude, abrupt, and non communicative. I lost it, stormed out, announcing to the waiting room that this was 'the worst doctor I'd ever been to.' I have been seeing an ophthalmologist for 20 years with whom I have a great rapport... he talks, explains, shares... I want THAT from a doc, and will not accept less. read more

The person who does the glasses is trying to sneak his own business interests between office and insurance. I've been with them for three years and I am switching providets because of him. Over the years I've gotten several pairs of glasses from Dr. Chen and they were pretty good. But this last pair was poor. I went back several times for adjustments and a re-examination but they said the the prescription was OK and just live with them. But it wasn't. Dr Chen was arrogant and impatient. I was not impressed with her on my first visit a year and a half ago but the gentleman who runs the office and fits you for the glasses is exceptional so I did return for my eye exam this year. Big mistake!! I should have listened to my initial feeling. I will pay for another eye exam this year, as I am not confident that I got a good exam from Dr Chen. My wife and I have been going yearly to Dr Chen for at least 3 years now and we could not be happier. Dr. Chen always takes her time with us and answers any concerns we may have. Its very easy to make an appointment and wait time averages 15 to 20 minutes. I actually look forward to my yearly eye exams (for some reason or another I enjoy getting my eyes dialated).
