My mom and I sat at the bar for 30 minutes, waiting to be served with money in hand. Both bartenders made eye contact with us multiple times, but ignored us, helping people on both sides of us multiple times. We didn't get served once. Very rude people, don't recommend unless you like being ignored. On my way out a girl there told me that's normal, they only help you if you wave your hand in their face. Never had a problem at any other bar in the valley. Update: According to the actual mountain of 1 star reviews, Karey Estrada was one of the bartenders working tonight. Seems like her providing sh*t service is a common occurrence! Just talked to one of my friends in the valley and was told "Is the bi*chfaced black-haired short girl working? We always come here when we visit Jacksonville. Probably won't be back. Very odd experience with a female bartender on a Saturday night. The bar was busy and my husband and I were sitting at the bar and had just gotten our drinks. We were having a conversation and all of a sudden she came up and said to me "he needs to leave". We were really shocked. I asked her why and she grabbed our drinks, dumped them out, and said "for starters I don't like how he is treating you". This was really strange because we were having a conversation between ourselves and not speaking to anybody. He was not treating me poorly in any way. Instead of arguing we got up and left. As we walked back to our Airbnb the only thing we could think of was that maybe our voices were raised because it was really loud in there but I don't know. Sitting as the original tavern in Southern Oregon, this place is a treasure chest of Oregon pride. Not only do they have both the Beavers and Ducks flags flying proudly, they also have other Oregonesque memorabilia, like all of the dead animals. Yes, hunting is a big deal in Oregon. Blech, I did my best to look past all of that because this place really is a gem. They have just about everything you want from a watering hole! I spent my entire life growing up in Southern Oregon, driving past this spot on my way up to Applegate lake or even going across the street to Jacksonville Inn or Bella Brew but just never found my way into J'ville Tavern. Isn't that always the way it works? When you live somewhere, some of the neatest places go unnoticed. I digress, so this joint really does have everything. TVs, slots, pool tables, plenty of seating including a few hi-tops, tables and a long bar. They have several local breweries on tap, house made bloody mary mix and just about any liquor you would expect from a Tavern. They have a section for $4 shots that include various bottles. If you're a smoker, there's a section in the back for you to puff away. They also have several specials which may or may not change depending on the season: Happy Hour 4-6 every day Free Darts, Free Wii Free pool on Sundays And yes, all the dollar bills on the ceiling to charity. The story goes (and forgive me if I get any details wrong) there was a local man with Down Syndrome who was a good friend and well known in the valley. Every year they would use the money from the ceiling to throw him a birthday party. He lived to 75 years old. After he passed, they decided to donate that money to Special Olympics every two years. My wife & I stopped in for a cold beer after visiting the surrounding shops. The friendly and jovial bartender outlined the various selections and let me sample a few before I selected a nice IPA. We enjoyed visiting with the bartender and other guests. All in all a very good experience, we'll be back again when we're back in town. read more

Since 1935...this place has been serving some nice adult beverages...this is Oregon so you are going to have to leave the kids in the car...hey don't worry I cracked the window...actually I left my wife there too. She is such a great wife to let me hang out and have a few...I know she would love to be in here too...these weird Oregon laws! First I can't pump my own gas and now I can't bring kids into a bar...what is next? My tap beer came in a nicely frosted pint glass...that is a plus...I ordered a Mirror Pond Ale and it was only 3.75 for a pint. What a deal? There are a lot of dead animals mounted on the wall here. My favorite is the mountain lion wearing a Santa hat! Was he wearing that in the wild...no wonder he got shot! There are also bills stuck all over the ceiling ...patrons throw them up there with a tack and a quarter for weight and they stick up there. Best part is the money is all donated to charity. Okay I guess I can look past all the dead animals looking at me. Not too many watering holes in Jacksonville, Oregon. This was a great local bar with a little history and nostalgia. Old Jim Beam collector whiskey bottles up above the bar, with game mounts around the room to give you the outdoor rustic feel. Dollar bills stuck to the 18 foot wood ceiling by tacks you can get from the bartender. It takes a little skill to know how to do it just right, but there is always a local nearby to show you the ropes. The tap and spirit selection is wide and satisfying. Did not expect food service but there is a pool table to brush up on your billiard game. Overall it is definitely worth a stop in and if you are a local, you have probably selected this or the other bar. I would definitely come back in this bar if back in the area. Cheers!!! read more

So unfortunate to have such a poor experience when bringing friends from out of town. My husband and I used to live in Jacksonville, and have been to the Tavern many times. I celebrated my 21st birthday at the Tavern (11 years ago) when Joe was the bartender and he was amazing!!! I brought my friends from out of town to the beautiful town of Jacksonville. Of course I had to take them to the Tavern. I gave them a heads up that Carrie the bartender is not the nicest person, (which is already a bummer to have to mention that) but since I have been in multiple times before and have experienced it myself, I felt the need to warn my friends. I personally have never had an issue with Carrie, just always ignored how rude she was. This particular evening we ordered drinks, played a little pool, some music but when my friend wanted to order a second beverage Carrie, Rudely told her it was last call at 1130. My friend decided to order another full round for the 4 of us. Carrie seemed very irritated and snappy. She never once announced that it was last call and was just rude. A few people walked in after this and she served them beers with no issue. One of my friends decided to leave a review. It was not out of context, it was written respectfully. She mentioned that we wouldn't be back if Carrie was bartending. Carrie felt the need to say "really you still yelp" and read the review out loud to the entire bar. My friend had told her that her customer service was poor and this isn't good for business. Carrie proceeded to say things like "well I'll always be here, I own this bar". At this point we were all uncomfortable and could not wait to leave. We asked for our tab, paid, and as we were leaving she continued to bicker with my friends and said "sorry, maybe I over served you guys". I really do not understand how someone could be so rude for really NO reason. She is rude disrespectful and has the worst attitude. Fast forward a few days later, I see Carrie at the Medford airport with my 11 year old son. My natural instinct was to politely wave at her. She snapped and said "don't say hi to me!" Jacksonville is such an amazing little town. Such a neat place to bring family/friends to. It's such a shame to have such a rude bartender when you're trying to have a good time. We walked in and waited for 5 minutes with an abandoned bar and then the gal finally came to back, we were condescendingly told they were closed--despite having their sign on their door OPEN, music playing, multiple people with drinks in hand and playing pool. We walked in and asked if they were still closed and the bartender snapped saying that "we just got off work." If you're closed, you're closed--I understand. Her demeanor was borderline threatening and she basically told my friend " take your F&%* ID somewhere else" as his valid ID had a punch through it. She has also been rude to family members of mine in the past. I believe this place used to be alright but honestly I would never want to go there again if this bartender remains on staff. I usually love the J'ville Tavern, but as of late it has really gone downhill. I have given it several opportunities, I am not just complaining about one experience. The service is what has gone really south in my opinion, while the male bartender I believe Jimmy was his name just completely ignores you unless you speak up the female bartenders are downright threatening (Carrie specifically). It almost seems that she has a vendetta against any other female patrons, I was personally singled out by this bartender recently and eventually I just left as she made me feel so uncomfortable. Unfortunately I will not be going back, I really like the place, it is a fun place to go but until they go through some staffing changes I am going to be steering clear of this place. It is a shame, I have seen the harassment by the female bartender (again I think her name is Carrie) against other women on other occasions and even though it did not effect me directly it was still upsetting and to be honest distracting me from my evening at the same time. Jacksonville may be an upscale wine destination by day, but at night it is still the Wild West. The Jville Tavern is at the center of it; a true dive bar, with loud live music and an even louder juke box (that sounds awesome through the vintage speakers up on the shelves by all the elk heads), a pool table right smack in the middle where there isn't enough room, good drinks, cold beer, rude bartenders, even a stuffed cougar. Speaking of stuffed cougars the clientele vary from Applegate trimmers to Bay Area tourists, mixed in with a variety of locals who are everything from doctors and lawyers to musicians and tradesmen. When folks who work at the other restaurants and bars finish their shift they head over to the Tavern. Note: The smoking room (the "chicken coop") in the back was closed after a new neighbor complained about the noise at 1:00AM. read more

The J'ville Tav has been keeping it real for longer than I have been on earth. This is one of the last "Real" bars left in town. My friend and I love this bar. We like to catch Happy Hour in the afternoon, sit at the window reading the local publication, and enjoy a good beer. It's a full bar as well.
