I've been a patient of Dr. Joo for almost 6 months and have seen significant improvement in my chronic symptoms. I have an autoimmune disease that I've battled with for over 10 years now; I have tried diet changes, lifestyle changes, stress management, Eastern medicine, Western medicine, yoga, turmeric etc. You name it, I've tried it, multiple times at this point. Dr is very helpful, insightful, and kind. I came in with menstrual issues, and wanted him to help balance my hormones and treat ovarian cyst. He recommended acupuncture, cupping, and herbal teas. I brought my mom in because she was suffering from her right hip, pain was shooting down her right leg, she was in horrible pain and it's not good for an 84 year old person. I've been coming with Dr. Joo for about 5 months and I will say, he really knows what his doing. I love the fact that the first session was an assessment of my needs and my kiddos. I was recommended to go see an acupuncturist by my doctor for pain and I was all for it because I had it done before years ago somewhere else out of State which was an amazing experience and it helped me tremendously! I came here based on all the 5 star reviews. Firstly the clinic is clean and clam. After explaining all my pain complaints Dr. Joo was nice and explained all that I needed. The first session went smoothly even the massage was really nice, he explained that I needed to buy his teas in order to help me heal, I truly believe in herbs and remedies as I do them myself, but he kept saying without it I won't heal as good, I'm sure his teas are good and do help many. But he sells them very expensive which I understand that each patient is different therefore not everyone gets the same herbs in their formula as he explains. The sessions after that the needles kept falling off (I did my best not to move) and it hurt more for days each time. The thing is I felt a bit pressured into buying the tea at everyone session which I cannot afford and even so, I'm allergic to some. It would be a good idea if he were to give or sell small samples of it for a lower price so people could try it and make sure no allergic reactions or so. I've been going to Dr. Joo for awhile now. I woke up one morning in a lot of pain all down my left side. I could barely move my arm. I went to the hospital. I told him that Im already receiving care by a Kaiser dermatologist. Overall, I felt he didn't take accountability. He was more worried about losing patients and asked me to take down the photo. He questioned how this could happen, when my last ear treatment was in Oct. I told him that at first it seemed like a minor irritation and I used alcohol and antibiotic cream to heal it. My 15 year old daughter was hit with sudden chronic knee pain. A constant level 5 up to level 10. So painful that she could hardly walk. Sometimes not even around the house. Due to the pain she was not sleeping well at all, her digestion was suddenly not good and overall her mood was down because of the pain and stress. I had been struggling with plantar fasciitis pain on my left foot. Having had the same issue on my right foot a year ago for months, I decided to try acupuncture. This was my first time getting acupuncture and I am not a fan of needles so I definitely was hesitant. In 2013 I suffered a traumatic dog bite injury to my right leg. A large portion of my thigh was bitten off. It became infected and I had a total of 8 surgeries, over the course of 10 months. Ultimately, I suffered permanent nerve damage and muscle loss from the injury. I also developed fibromyalgia after my injury. I was placed on medication I had to take daily. Over the course of 4 years, I gained 40 pounds as a result of the pain, stress, depression and medication. Additionally, I was no longer able to stand for long periods of time, which negatively impacted my career as a registered nurse first assistant for cardio-thoracic surgery. At the recommendation of my Pain Management Specialist, I began to inquire about acupuncture & non-western medicine via the internet. As an advanced practice nurse, my colleagues and I were initially skeptical about the benefits of acupuncture and holistic medicine. I decided to try it after several months of research, coupled with the fact that I was getting worse instead of better on all my medication. I began by documenting my progress using the pain scale and my intake of medication. Prior to acupuncture treatment I had consistent and persistent pain of 7/10 to my right leg, right hip and right lower back. I suffered from Fibro attacks and migraines one to two times a week. I was only able to sleep for about four hours before waking in pain. I was only able to stand for two hours straight before suffering an increase in right sided pain. I would take cymbalta 60mg once a day, gabapentin 300mg twice a day, lidocaine 5% patch once a day, voltaren 1% gel twice a day, and ibuprofen 600mg as needed. I came to JW Health Care two months ago. My 1st appointment included a complete history and physical, acupuncture, suction cupping, acupressure, massage, and adjustment. It lasted two hours and after my appointment I was very tired. The following day I felt slightly better. Pain was more tolerable. Dr. Joo devised a plan for me to come once a week for treatment and drink a handmade tea of 20 herbs twice a day. After the 1st two weeks my pain was down to 5/10 with a reduction of gabapentin to only once a day. After four weeks I was taking gabapentin once every other day and my pain was 4/10. After six weeks my pain was down to 3/10 & I was completely off the gabapentin. After 8 weeks my pain is maintained at 3/10, but I am now off the cymbalta as well. I rarely take ibuprofen. I still use voltaren gel & lidocaine patches as needed. My Fibro attacks & migraines have decreased to approximately 1-2 times a month. I'm able to sleep 6 hours without waking up in pain. I am also able to stand for 6-8 hours without experiencing severe pain. I'm no longer depressed and I've lost 5lbs. My symptoms are now well managed and under control because of Dr. Joo's plan.
