I received a confirmation email for a Saturday pickup and made arrangements at my new out‑of‑state home based on that information. When I was later told on Friday the move would actually take place on Monday, it created a major inconvenience. I had to book a hotel for several days with my dog, and customer service offered nothing more than a sorry. There is a lack of internal communication with the moving coordinators. Fabian (the driver) and his crew, however, were exceptional. They turned a frustrating situation into a much better experience, and I highly recommend Fabian and his crew. Terrible experience -- our belongings were picked up and then effectively disappeared into limbo…read more American Van Lines picked up our household goods for an interstate move from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to Simi Valley, California. Their own paperwork listed a delivery spread ending on September 20. As of September 23, we still did not have our belongings. What made this especially infuriating was that we had a tracker with our shipment showing it sitting in the Rockville, Maryland area instead of making progress toward California. We repeatedly tried to get clear answers about where our belongings were, why they were not moving, and when they would actually be delivered. Instead of giving us a straightforward, reliable explanation and a firm delivery plan, we were left chasing updates while living without our household belongings. Their documents themselves repeatedly showed the August 29-September 20 delivery spread, yet once that window passed, we were still without our things and without the level of communication anyone should expect after paying thousands of dollars for a cross-country move. The lack of transparency has been the worst part. When a company has virtually everything you own in its possession, customers should not have to fight for basic answers like: Where are our belongings? Why haven't they moved? When are they actually coming? We have had to document everything, save tracking information, preserve contracts and invoices, and escalate the matter because routine customer-service inquiries were not producing meaningful answers. Moving across the country is stressful enough. Having your belongings sitting hundreds of miles in the wrong direction while you are left wondering when you will see them again is unacceptable. Based on our experience, I would strongly urge anyone considering American Van Lines to read every document carefully, keep independent tracking on important shipments, save every email and text, and get every promise about delivery in writing. At the time of writing this review, our belongings had still not been delivered.

My belongings were held hostage upon delivery (two weeks late) unless I paid an additional $3000. Some items are missing, some were damaged. I have received not one response from this scamming, shitty company.
