Always excellent! I "inherited" J W Pierson four years ago when I purchased this home. Never having had oil heat before, they answered all questions and explained the system. Their response to service requests has always been prompt, even on Christmas Day! Fills are done on time. The office is easy to work with. I recently had my oil tank replaced and it was a pleasure. They worked with me on scheduling so I would not have a lot of unused oil left in the old tank. They arrived exactly at the scheduled time, went right to work, finished early and left the area clean. Was a customer for 2 years. In this relatively short time they sold me a on service contract which was incorrect(residential contract for commercial location), over $12,000 in oil and managed to repeatedly mis diagnose issues which led to over $20,000 in heating system damage. DO NOT let their polite phone etiquette fool you. They are the worst kind of small business. They site their years in business and smile to your face all the while being negligent in the service you pay them to provide. read more

27 years ago we bought our home in Glen Ridge. After closing the previous owner showed me how to operate the heating system. He pointed out they had used Pierson and liked them, so we continued with them. With oil heat you are always going to need someone to keep the furnace in working order and anytime we need them, they come right over. One Christmas morning the heat stopped and a technician was at our door in 20 minutes. Great service, highly recommend these folks! read more

If I could do zero starts I would. Ended up with this company After Hilltop sold to them. Called for a service call when the oil burner was sending hot water to the radiators despite the thermostat being off. Service person came out and said the check valve was bad, but he would turn off the flow to the valve to stop the water flow. This was July 2022. Told to call back closer to heating season and they would get it fixed. Called in September, once again they had to send another service guy out who didn't listen to a word said about the check valve and determined that everything was fine. Did nothing. 24 hours later we still have the same problem. Third service person comes out and says "you have a bad check valve but I don't have that part. The office will call you when the part comes in". 2 weeks later I call the office who have no clue what I'm talking about and they send me to Raheem who now says that it will be $792 since their service contract doesn't cover this. Prior to this no mention of not being covered under the contract. Finally spoke with Bob, COO who said "no contract covers valves" I called a number of other companies all said their contract covers this as an integral part of the oil burner. Bob offered no resolution except "I'm not showing any service calls for this except for this last one and we're very busy which is why no one is answering the phones" . 4 months this has been going on and they had no record of anything. I"m getting the service contract refunded since it doesn't cover anything with this company. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. they are obviously unable to handle their acquired customers from Hilltop Fuel and their service technicians don't properly document calls and can't troubleshoot problems..even when the customer has told them what was wrong based on previous service calls Another local oil company will help get this resolved..and their service contract covers valves and they couldn't have been nicer to pick up someone elses lack of service. read more

Fraud Fraud Fraud Tried to make us buy a new oil storage tank that was not necessary. Kept changing their story about what was wrong with it. Told us that they could get us a new upgraded more compact tank that wouldn't cost us anything. Wanted to scam the insurance company to pay for it.Then all of a sudden we had to kick in over a thousands dollars for our part of the replacement. All the while there was nothing wrong with our existing tank. Left a very bad taste. Look elsewhere for your home heating needs. read more

We had service with Hilltop Fuel for years and were very pleased. Pierson bought out Hilltop and we have had a series of problems since they took over. Very poor service, they did not deliver automatic delivery oil on time, resulting in our tank running dry and sediment getting into the lines, and most recently we were charged for routine service that was supposed to be covered by our service contract. They refused to honor the contract so we are switching to a different supplier. read more

Our furnace broke down on March 17, just in the beginning of the pandemic shut down. My problem was that to enter my basement you need to enter the first floor of my house. Given my extreme concerns about the potential dangers of having people in my home during that time, I was very uncomfortable about going through the reinstallation process. Pierson created a completely protected area in my foyer blocking off the entire rest of the house. They were able to extract my old furnace and install the new one without causing me any concern about dirt or contamination. I'm sure you can imagine the peace of mind that we experienced. I don't think I could have had it done if they didn't go this extra mile to make us feel safe and comfortable. Pierson managers goes so far beyond normal customer service to make sure you're satisfied and feeling safe. read more

I am extraordinarily disappointed in the marked drop in customer service!!!! I've been a customer since 2010 and while last season I noticed the attention to my needs/refills slipping, this year has been ridiculous. The last time I needed oil in January I had to call- and it took 4 days for anyone to come, and then they only bothered to fill it to 2/3 of a tank!!!!! So I'm now below 1/8 of a tank and called yesterday morning only to be told the schedule didn't have them coming again until the end of February! Because of course, why would they deliver in January and not FILL the tank???? Though they just needed to check the bill to know it wasn't full. When I said I needed oil ASAP as I'm below 1/8 of a tank, I was told the best they could do was to come the following day- meaning today. I get home from a long day of work today and- guess what???? NO OIL DELIVERY!!!!! How is that ok???? In my job, if I promise a client a deliverable on a date and fail to a.) deliver and b.) tell them it will be late, there are consequences. I'm beyond livid- I called and of course got the answering service who can't help. My heat is set to 60 as I'm terrified of having zero oil and by the way- I'M FREEZING!!!!! And I'm now seriously considering investing in switching to gas. Well done, J.W. Pierson- I was perfectly happy with my oil heat and am now so upset I'm thinking of investing time, effort, and money into switching- all because your customer service and attention to detail is beyond abysmal. Seriously- I'm absolutely disgusted that after calling and making a very specific plea and being PROMISED a delivery today, they pulled a no show and didn't even bother to CALL me!!!!!! So far, so good. I had been with the same home heating oil company for about 10 years. They were close, responded quickly and over all, i was okay with them. They (FJ Post) sold their businees to JW Pierson. I purchase a service contract each year; Pierson honored it and i scheduled the cleaning of the boiler. A nice guy named Ken came out (on time) and proceeded to clean the boiler. He was so thorough and knowledgeable. Mind you, my boiler is old but he knew what he was doing. I was stunned when he showed me how this boiler had not been cleaned properly. He removed the side and the ceramic was basically crumbling. He took the vent down from the intake to the chimney and poured out a tremendous amount of soot and informed me that there was no way that could have accumulated over one heating season. Ken spent 2 hours cleaning my boiler. When FJ Post would come to do it, if they were here a half hour it was a lot. When Ken first started it up the smell (which i always smelled) was very heavy and a bit of smoke was coming from where it fires. by the time he left, my boiler was running smooth and no smell. I was a bit wary of going with a new company, but i now see it as a blessing in disguise. The office staff is very polite and helpful as well. read more
