My request was simple: CHUNKY balayage. CHUNKYYYY. I had pictures to show what I wanted. Mostly warm highlights with some cool sprinkled in. I also asked to add texture to my hair but keep the length (it was below my bra line). Nope... goodbye 6 inches I didn't ask to lose (now it's just below my shoulders). I had THICK voluminous hair, and now it's like I have the Rachel haircut. They foiled my hair to death and I ended up almost platinum blonde when the foils came out, and then to add insult to injury, you could clearly see the lines where the highlights began where it looks almost burnt at the edges?? We went back in for another TWO hours to make it warmer, but by that time my hair was fried, and now I have a bald spot I didn't have before. He offered to fix it in another few weeks after my hair has had time to settle, but I'm never letting anyone there touch my head again. I'm too nice of a person and still managed to crack a semi smile when it was finally done, but now I'm left with tears and silent screaming to hold back my utter horror at what they left me with. If you didn't get the memo: I don't recommend them. Even after everything, he still had the audacity to charge me $250 (discounted) and said I didn't need to leave a tip. Umm, thanks? God only knows how long this is going to take to fix... Should've gone to Fluff Bar. Thanh, you should've comp'd it and ask I not leave a bad review, which I totally would've said yes to not doing. Lesson learned? Was the juice really worth the squeeze? Looks like I'm not the only one who's had this happen to them? Ladies or gents: If you want balayage or any kind of coloring service, do NOT go here. This is NOT their specialty. Run. UPDATE: Went to a highly reviewed salon a few days after my visit with Vo where I had two pros look at my hair to assess the situation (and probability of me somehow getting what I originally wanted), and both agreed that what Vo did to my hair was "pretty bad" and unprofessional. All I heard, as they were slowly combing and lifting through my hair, were soft whispers and gasps of horror with the occasional, "Girl look at this... omg..." After hearing what they could do to fix the mess Vo left me with (weeks of painstaking piece meal work and god-knows-how-much-money) I ultimately decided to have them take me back to my original brown so I could start over from square one. THAT'S how bad it was. All that time and money just to go back to brown and have my hair be short and thin instead of long and thick. God I could scream. I appreciate you offering to fix the mess you left me with, Thanh, but no thanks. I would much rather you spend the time you would've taken on fixing my hair to spending it on some coloring courses instead. Just because you own a salon doesn't mean you've mastered the art of hair. The other guy whom you trained on the fly with me has a lot of learning to do also. I could tell he didn't know what he was doing and yet you still let him touch my hair while you juggled two other clients. Unacceptable service. On top of that, neither you or the other guy ever made small talk with me, which I've never experienced at a salon in all my life. Like, not a single word or question about my day or even my name. Even if you guys had done a great job, I still wouldn't have come back due to that alone. K I'm done. Lesson learned I hope. Best of luck to you.

JW's is great! Cozy little salon with a very personal feel to it in a highly accessible part of town! This was my first visit as my usual stylist just moved to JW's from another salon and I was very pleasantly surprised. Speaking of the stylist, if you go to JW's (which you definitely should) you have got to book your visit with William! I've been seeing him for a long time now (almost two years actually), and he's never led me astray. Pricing is super reasonable and there's no end to Will's talents. Drop by for your next cut. JW's Salon is what I've been looking for--a good haircut at a reasonable price. JW is a personable guy, loves the city and what's going on, easy to talk with. I've spent years bouncing between Great Clips cheap butcher cuts and grossly overpriced salons that don't deliver. JW's is clean, fairly busy and priced just right for a terrific hair cut. He's on 6th Avenue, between Downing and Corona, or between the Esquire Theater and Safeway. He's hard to see from the street because he's small, set back and doesn't have a protruding sign. I'm sold. To start, he rescheduled my original appointment just ONE HOUR before I was supposed to come in, which was already frustrating. Then on the day of my actual appointment, he was late. Completely unprofessional from the beginning. When I arrived, I was honestly shocked at how messy the salon was. There was hair all over the floor and from several different people, the brushes he used had other people's hair stuck in them, and at one point he even dropped a brush on the ground and then picked it right back up and used it on me. It felt unsanitary and careless. The service itself was even worse. He took over five and a half hours to highlight my hair, and the result was horrible. During my consultation, I very clearly asked for full foil highlights and showed multiple pictures. He even discussed those photos with me--yet somehow decided to do balayage instead and the end result looked nothing like what I asked for. Throughout the appointment, he was also on his phone most of the time and barely communicated with me. When he wasn't actively working on my hair, there was little to no interaction, which made the whole experience feel very uncomfortable and inattentive. On top of that, he actually left the studio to go get coffee while my hair was processing, which felt incredibly unprofessional. I came back the next day to have him fix it and showed him pictures again of what I wanted corrected because my hair looked so bad. Instead of fixing it, he completely ruined it even more. When I calmly explained that this still wasn't what I had asked for, he became extremely defensive and dismissive, saying things like, "I don't know what you want me to do." That was incredibly frustrating because he did NOT follow what I asked for in the first place. At that point I was so disappointed and embarrassed by how my hair looked that I started crying right there in the salon. Instead of showing any empathy or professionalism, he was rude, dismissive, and told me, "I don't know what you want me to do. I did everything you told me you wanted" and then when I told him that I felt like he didn't listen to what I asked for, he said "you can leave now" and pointed me to the door. Not once did he apologize or try to make things right. To make matters worse, he originally quoted me $270 for highlights, but at the end charged me $370. No explanation, no accountability--just another example of how unprofessional this entire experience was. The lack of hygiene, poor communication, completely ignoring what I asked for, overcharging, and the way he treated me was unacceptable. A simple apology and willingness to fix the situation would have gone a long way, but instead I was met with defensiveness and disrespect. I would strongly advise anyone considering this salon to go elsewhere. I truly hope he reflects on how he treats his clients and never makes someone feel the way I felt during this experience again. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, honesty, and basic empathy, and I hope he finds it in himself to do better moving forward.
