In the good ole U.S.A going to the malls is something I do not like at all so I rarely step inside one. In the Philippines, though, I look forward to stepping inside their doors. Robinsons Galleria in Cebu City is one of the newer and largest ones in Cebu. There are about 4 or 5 levels of shops to explore. I do enjoy exploring and getting exercise in this air conditioned haven. Terrific selection of stores and food places plus so much else. Most of the staff I come across are friendly. Robinsons is super clean, and it is not too crowded. If you are a foreignor visiting Cebu, chances are you will be a fan of Robinsons Galleria too. Step inside and find out.

Had an early morning flight to Manila in order to catch another flight to Seoul, which eventually flew me back to LAX. So today was filled with last minute shopping! Kultura is a chain of souvenir stores owned by SM Retail. This one is located on the upper ground floor of SM City Cebu, a large shopping mall along Juan Luna Avenue Ext. I already went to their Makati location last Friday, so I had a general idea of what I was going to buy. You'll find Filipino snacks, home goods, clothing, jewelry, bags, and more. I bought a box of polvorón (shortbread cookies) for less than $5 USD. Selection is not great compared to their other stores. Only one brand (Goldilocks Bakery) was available, which was not surprising given SM Investments has a 74% stake in the company. And they had fewer flavor options. But it was cheaper than the Goldilocks in SoCal. It's a sweet and crumbly treat. I also bought a miniature metal bahay kubo (traditional stilt house) sculpture to put on my desk. Buyer beware, airport security made a big deal about it before ultimately waving me through. Your mileage may vary. Less variety and less to choose from overall. Hubby and I tried on barong and dresses made of pineapple fiber, of banana fiber, and lastly, of "cocoon" which I figure must be silk. Our sales lady said it was from "saliva of butterflies" but that could just be a fanciful translation. Anyway, after an hour of trying on stuff, with super helpful staff showing us different styles and prices, we bought a Barong for hubs and matching shawl made out of pineapple fiber for me. They have quality merchandise that are great for gift giving as "pasalubong" back home... souvenirs from dried mangoes to native apparel to home decor to quality, locally made jewelry (especially freshwater pearls). The store is neat and organized and prices are cheap. You can definitely find unique Filipino products at Kultura. Btw, "Kultura" means Culture (the arts, customs, lifestyle and background that make up our country). I fell in love with the sundresses and can't wait to wear when the weather gets warm. I don't even like shopping too much but I enjoyed shopping here and in the Philippines as a whole. Usually when I try to turn up my wallet says hold up! Not for me here in this store LoL! Carbon seems to actually look better than what I remember from before. There are lots of good quality items if you know where to look. I was so tempted buy things even though i didnt really need them because they all look so well-made and beautiful lol Here you can find good products for less. The woven items were so beautiful. You can even find "old school" things here such as a the Baterol for "sikwate". Sometimes vendors can even lower prices depending on what you can agree on. I've seen on the TV during my time in cebu that they have like a food market now which seems pretty cool, unfortunately we didnt have time to explore that. Perhaps next time. Either way I did enjoy coming here again and looking at the place with a fresh outlook. Again, not the cleanest of places but there's just something about the it thats actually quite intriguing and fun, happy to have stopped by!

It's a great experience even if you're not hungry; you can enjoy the hustle/bustle and browse not only the food stands but also nearby stalls (shooting off from the main food market) that sell clothing, produce, and other trinkets. Re: food, I loved the scallops and dragonfruit smoothie in particular. Besides, if you're a tourist like me, there generally isn't much sightseeing to do in Cebu City--so this is absolutely one of the places you should go to get a taste of life here.

The boy purchased some Team Pilipinas shirts but had buyer's remorse before he even left the store. Less than five seconds from leaving the counter he tried to return his purchases and they said NOPE MAMSIR. We inquired about store credit since we figured we could at least get some nice kicks when we went home and they were incredulous that we even asked. Same prices as back home, lousier return policies. At least his family enjoyed the shirts for Christmas.
