I mean this place is packed from wall to wall, full of libation....wine and spirits to fit anyone's liking. Also, this store contains a convenience store and USPS post office drop off that is open later than most USPS post offices around.....8pm (Mon -Fri) to be exact! Needing to get a package out to my sister for her birthday this weekend....This place saved me! Last minute, I was able to dash over to this store tonight from work and send a priority mail package late before closing their post office station at 8pm. Keep in mind that most post offices have already closed three hours ago, at 5pm. They even had mail packaging supplies, boxes and packaging tape on deck....amongst all the other convenience store items, food and wine/spirits packed in the store. On top of that, the customer service was outstanding. The store clerk and owners were very helpful. Not to mention, I snagged a couple of great IPAs and wine finds from their selection before leaving.. I disagree that prices at K-1 Beer and Wine are higher than at a grocery, ABC, or specialty liquor store. After all, the last time I was at a grocery store (in this case a Harris Teeter), it is almost impossible to buy a decent six-pack of beer for anything less than $11-$12! And by decent I am referring to the non-mass produced Miller/Coors/Budweiser stuff, although those beers have their place also. K-1 is an unusual mix of mini-post office (yup, I've mailed parcels from there), purveyor of every conceivable lottery game (yup, I've purchased multi-million dollar PowerBall Tickets), and semi-convenience store (yup, I've purchased cheese and charcuterie items here also). But of course people come for the excellent beer selection. Yeah, there are fairly good wine choices toward the left-hand side of the store, but K-1 has one of the more extensive beer menus which is impressive for such a small space. And a small space it is. Walk in and maneuver around the crowds of the people on the right buying lottery tickets and amble about the narrow aisles and refrigerated cases with rows and rows of beer. And they have all the greatest hits of specialty beers: * Delirium beer * All of my favorite Bell's Brewery, especially the Bell's Two-Hearted Ale * Lagunitas * Great Lakes Brewing * Brooklyn Brewery * Allagash And the list goes on and on. But I've been stopping by quite a bit since K-1 is the ONLY place I've found in the DMV that carries Buffalo Bill's Orange Blossom Cream Ale (https://www.facebook.com/BuffaloBillsBrewery). I had my first taste of Buffalo Bill's on a business trip to California about 3 years ago, since this Hayward, CA brewery isn't yet a national presence. Cream Ales, are brewed as an ale though are sometimes finished with a lager yeast or lager beer mixed in. Lower hop contents make Cream ales less bitter, which is a nice change for me since I still love me a good IPA. The Orange Blossom is the perfect summer time brew. The beer pours with a slightly copper head, low foam, with a very citrusy aroma. The orange flavor is not too pronounced, but has a crisp finish. Excellent with summer time grilling or just relaxing with friends in the evening. If you've been looking for a hard to find craft beer, try K-1. Tip: Parking in front of the store is kind of a pain, so go around back since there is a small lot behind the strip mall. read more

The owners are super friendly and have possibly the best beer selection around. They have a Facebook page which is updated with the latest items they've gotten in stock and they definitely have something for everyone. A huge plus is their growler fill station. This place is way sketch! You can't even see through the door because it is completely boarded up. As usual, my pretentiousness was uncalled for because I stopped in one fateful day only to be greeted with the usual and expected tobacco products, porno mags, 40's, pop tarts, top ramen packages and..... CRAFT BREWS?! WINES FROM AROUND THE WORLD?!?! A WIDE SELECTION OF SAKE AND PLUM WINES?!!, AN AWESOME ICE CREAM FREEZER? AND FRIENDLY SERVICE TO BOOT?! Yelper Whaaaaaaa??!! I love wandering this store and searching for new brews to sample! I am also a part of a wine club that samples a different wine from every region of the world every month and K-1 has never failed me! And since I'm half-Filipino, I love the fact that they have a good selection of corned beef in their canned food aisle. Nothing cures a craft beer hangover better than some corned beed and rice! I'd heard of K-1 for years but only recently walked in. What a wonderful little store this is! Tightly organized in short aisles & filled to the brim with beers you'd only find at a specialty store. Think of the variety of Total Wine & More in the space of a 7-11 but locally owned & arranged in a way that helps you pick a beer (or sometimes wine) that you've never tried before or considered. I've seen a lot of different beers in my time and K-1 offers me many different and unseen options from local brewers from across the country. PROS: A wide variety of beers (many small local breweries, mid-sized breweries from elsewhere, standard big brewers) in different quantities (multi-packs, large bottles, or some individuals), some wines of varying origin and blends, a limited amount of convenience goods (snacks & whatnot), a reasonable amount of parking (out front, on the side street, & behind the building). CONS: Prices reflect a specialty store (don't plan to get much for less than $10 -- if it's a big deal for you, Giant is across the street), the interior is basic, (I didn't ask the staff questions but based on my limited experience) the staff does their thing so perhaps check Untappd instead of expecting recommendations. read more

The owner frequently bring in newly released micro brews, some pretty hard to find elsewhere. As long as I've lived near Columbia Pike, K-1 was always there to serve as the semi-dirty purveyor of the largest selection of fortified wine and malt liquor in the Arlington area (they had never-before seen flavors of Mad Dog). I tended to avoid K-1 as you had to navigate through a group that is perpetually there scratching off lotto tickets. Plus the selection of beer was terrible, and I got over my immediately post college 40 and Mad Dog kick. I needed to get some cash and recently ran into K-1 to use the ATM. The lotto scratchers are still there, but I was greeted with a great sight. Almost a quarter of the store is now devoted to craft beer. They added a several new refrigerated coolers all holding delicious 6 packs of craft beer, plus a devoted cooler to 22 oz and larger craft beers. One of the aisles is now devoted to single bottles and "choose your own 6 packs" style of imports and microbrews. Now, don't get me wrong. K-1 is not Total Wine, or even Lost Dog for that matter. Pricing is slightly cheaper than the 6 packs at Lost Dog, and they actually had a few choices of beer that Lost Dog doesn't carry in their coolers. They seemed to have the full line of Bell's and Lagunitas which was nice. Now the rest of the store is still ass. There is porn behind the counter, the aforementioned wide selection of malt liquor and fortified wine, and sketchy lotto customers, but it's nice to have a place you can swing by quickly, has parking, and has good beer (I also like having the option of getting it by the bottle). Hopefully this addition of craft beer is the first step to making K-1 a little more upmarket as the area becomes more upmarket - maybe someday becoming a little more Arrowine and a little less slummy-porno-and-lotto-pusher. read more

I am so thankful for this place. Great beer selection. To all those saying they are overpriced- you're welcome to go to the Giant across the street to grab some mediocre IPAs or Bud Light. Honestly, they are *maybe* .50-0.80 cents more but not usually anything over a $1 more than all the beers you could get at the grocery store and they have MANY brands of beer and wine you will never find elsewhere, especially in this area. It's really refreshing to find a place that isn't a chain business around here. I love this area of Columbia Pike for this reason. The owners/staff are super friendly which is an added bonus. This place is our go to. It's like a neighborhood secret. From the outside, nothing special. Inside? All the select craft brews you could want with great variety and constant rotation. There's the typical stuff too for whoever wants to stop in for wine/champagne/Budweiser. But this place shines for their beer selection. Things that you wouldn't expect to see on this coast are always popping up, and he's got seasonals as soon as they're released. He's also a dictionary for his inventory. You ask if he's got anything from a certain brewery? He knows exactly what shelf and what beer. (He may even add your requests to his next order list too if you're nice.) We're happy and feel lucky that we found this place so quickly after moving here. One of many hidden gems on Columbia Pike. I frequent this place several times a week to check out their vast variety of craft beers. They literally have everything, even some obscure craft beers from different parts of the country. I noticed also they recently installed an actual bar where you can fill growlers. They had 4 beers on tap last time a checked. K-1 is a great one stop shop for beer and snacks. They've even got several VA lottery machines too if you're feeling lucky. Best way to describe it is a half bar-half gas station convenience store. Aside from Total Wine, I can't think of a better place to get your hands on quality craft beer in Virginia. Prices are what you would expect, depending on the brewery. For example, Ballast Point is always going to cost you a bit more than D.C Brau, no matter where you are. Parking is extremely limited here. I recommend parking alongside across from the Dominos or around back. Spots in front fill up quick, especially in the evenings around rush hour. read more

However, I was in tonight and there was a woman who came in behind me with no mask on. I steered clear of her, and when she turned up behind me in line I said to the woman checking me out at the counter, "it is the law to require masks in businesses right now." Great place for quick groceries in the neighborhood. Comparable beer and wine selection to Lost Dog (maybe even a slightly bigger selection). Facebook page gives you updates on the latest craft beers. Gourmet cheese selection. Friendly staff. Expect the unexpected -- you can find lots of sketchy people here at most hours. That said, it feels pretty safe, like most of Arlington. This is the local lotto hotspot, so there are often hordes of people buying lottery tickets. Great beer store. Standard size convenient store that is probably half to two thirds filled with beer and wine. Has a few hard to find beers, but mostly just a great variety. Prices are like grocery stores, not as cheap as total wine, but better selection than total wine from small and local breweries. Some good finds: lots of Schafly, Victory, Prairie Artisan, Unibroue, Evil Twin, Allagash, James River, various ciders and meads, Cigar City, Six Point, Naragansett, Founders, Atlas, Clown Shoes, Port City, etc, etc. I could go on and on.
