The Brew Shop is a bit out of my way, but we'll worth the trip - fantastic selection of beers of all kinds, with a interesting new options coming in every week, and really excellent organization in a nicely sized space that lets you find exactly what you're looking for while discovering fun new options too. The service is fantastic, super friendly and helpful, and I love the backstory of the founders (look it up on their website!) After arriving in the area from a different part of the country, I thought The Brew Shop might be a good place to get some local beers. I walked in and the woman at the counter was friendly and helpful. They have a good selection of refrigerated 4 or 6 packs, unrefrigerated single and some ingredients and gear you'd need to brew your own beer. I was happy to see lots of interesting local brews and only a few from breweries I'd heard of (that's a good thing). I picked out some singles and one 4 pack. The selection of beers here is awesome! So many different varieties and styles to try. They have both beers that's are at room temp and cans/bottles that are refrigerated. It was fun to browse the massive selection. I also noticed that they sold a lot of tools/parts for at-home brewing. That's not my thing-- but I was really impressed that they had these items for sale. A few beer selections were on-tap at the front of the store and there was a nice selection of wines, seltzers and ciders. I could spend a lot of time and money in here! Ooo. Ooo. Ooo. Love this shop. Love the free tastings on Fridays, the selection of beer, wine & cider, and the general ambiance. Perfectly picked meats & cheeses - exceptional selection for any charcuterie board. People who work there are passionate about beer, wine & cider. What actually drew me here initially is my love of lost boy cider - of which this spot was having a tasting - to which on a day after walking back from a nearby gym, I thought - I must go in and try! They have each flavor of lost boy cider, and it's chilled - so perfect for quick consumption upon arriving home. But the staff, wine, craft beers, cheese & meat really push this spot into the territory of exceptional. Y'all are doing it right - keep it up! read more

Around this time of the year, I frantically search for Abita's Strawberry Lager. I searched Abita's website and they directed me to The Brew Shop. Upon walking in, I beelined straight for the beer section. And, right before my eyes was the Strawberry Lager I covet. I'm so excited, I'm chatting up the guy about my love for this beer, how hard it is to find in this area. Since it's seasonal, I inquire how long they will have it in stock. I provide my email address along with my question. A few days later, I receive an email. Wow! Just superb customer service and follow through. Not only do I have a month to buy this deliciousness, the Abita SL is tapped and being served in growlers for a limited time. I'll be there soon to pick up a couple. Officially in love with this place! Stopped in to get some brew Kits and I had such an awesome experience. The staff was super incredible and super patient. It was awesome! I know I can be an annoying customer, so I always appreciate when the team answers all of my questions without making me feel like a burden. Okay, reasons for the 5 stars: 1. There are two homebrewers who were able to help me pick out the best types of beer to brew for my housewarming. 2. She provided advice on one of my previous batches that wasn't going so well. 3. They had all the supplies I needed to help round out my beer brewing process. 4. The staff. just awesome! When one guy was unable to answer my questions, he referred to someone more experienced. I ordered their gift basket online for my friend's upcoming birthday. It was very simple to do. I just checkmarked what to include (beer and snacks) and described more specifically what I wanted. For that, I just asked them to include their most popular beer. I submitted my order, and I got a confirmation email later saying that they would include their "crowd-pleasers." The end result was a beautiful gift basket that my friend was very impressed by. Their coolers are organized by taste (fruity, hoppy, etc). And they also have a build a 6 pack selection . I'm not a beer person, so I'm rating based on whether it seemed like the kind of place that would please my friends who are really into beer, and all I can say is that when I walked in I was veritably assaulted with gift ideas. There's a small but well-curated selection of refrigerated six-packs available for purchase, and it's divided up by flavor (hops, malt, crisp, etc.) so even a novice like me can get a sense of what I should buy when I don't necessarily know the difference between a stout and a porter or between a pilsner and a lager. So that made life easier for me. For the beer people, three features really stand out. First, about half the store is dedicated to home brewing, including beginner kits, individual ingredients, resources, etc. Second, there's a wall of beers available to build your own six pack. The person I walked in with, who is a beer person, was able to leave with a sampler of six different local beers, which pleased him immensely. Third, you can have them fill up a growler for you from a curated selection of beers on tap. There's also a small selection of wine - including wine on tap - and munchies, and a curated coffee selection. They also sell gift cards, which is great because I know at minimum 4 people who would all be like kids in a candy shop at this place. The people working the shop were super nice and laid back - it's an immediate reminder of why it's a pleasure to shop in Virginia over the District, so much more chill - and I love that they have a large, clean, single-stall bathroom that you can just use if you're shopping. And they offer tastings, which I probably wouldn't go to on my own but will suggest next time I'm hanging on a Saturday with one of my craft beer addict friends. One suggestion that I noted to the people working there, and will reiterate here in case they're reading: carry beer soaps! Soap made with beer is surprisingly luxurious with thick, rich lather. read more

Been walking past this place for months and we happened by it today and it opened TODAY!! The place is beautiful - not as big as I thought it may be, but they certainly make up for that with the amount of items they carry. A full wine wall on your right, a full cider wall on your left (including space for coffee!), and a full fridge of 6 packs of beer straight back. This also includes much wall space of home brew equipment and any kind of items for creating your own beer. Literally - anything you need, it's there. I'm a big coffee buff, so I'll be heading back there soon to try a few of their roasts! Also - BLUE CHEESE BEEF JERKY!? Say no more. They are having a beer tasting right now, so head over! We tried the Snowpants Oatmeal Stout, and it was delicious. They have a huge line, so I wasn't able to chat up the owners yet, but I will be back soon. Their items for sale also include "create your own 6-pack" and growlers. I'm more of a cider drinker than a beer drinker, and they really had a huge selection. The free beer & cider tasting drew my friends and I in to the Brew Shop! The tasting was a great great experience - the bartender knew her stuff and answered all of our questions (most were easy/dumb, but she took her time and thoroughly explained everything we asked). We had one beer and two ciders - the last being the crowd favorite (Highball Moscow Mule Cider cocktail - AMAZING!! Tastes just like a Moscow Mule and is so so good). The selection of beers/wines seems good - obviously more is always better so I want to see them expand a bit more. The store also sells brewing supplies - everything you could need. I am not someone who brews their own beer, but this store definitely makes me want to learn more about the process! They said sometimes they have brewing classes so I hope to attend one of those in the future. Definitely a bit pricey, but seems pretty worth it overall. The Brew Shop is a great shop in Clarendon. There are definitely other shops out there to grab a 6 pack but I love the Brew Shop for its fun personality, welcoming staff, and huge selection of craft beers. They have free tastings frequently and are dog-friendly. Everyone is extremely friendly and passionate about helping you find the right brews. I haven't done it but they let me know they can sometimes do special orders for beers if you have a particular craft beer in mind. Highly recommend! read more

Striking out to find craft beer in Arlington isn't exactly an arduous quest. Similar to spotting a Prius or a millennial FaceTiming in public, the probability of finding a store with an array of beer from obscure breweries is high in Arlington. The Brew Shop in Clarendon, though, sets themselves apart by not only having a great selection of cans, bottles, and taps to fill growlers, but by also providing excellent customer service. I was looking for a particular kind of cider (not usually a cider guy, but Graft isn't a usual cider) that I couldn't find in my neighborhood. I had to actually get in my car and drive outside of my own zip code. I checked The Brew Shop first. They didn't have what I was looking for at the time, but they were expecting a shipment later in the week. The employees took my name and number and gave me a call when it arrived. They even threw a four-pack in the fridge so it would be cold by the time I picked it up. I've been to The Brew Shop five or six times, and every time the workers have been extremely nice and helpful. That's the kind of thing that makes venturing out of the neighborhood and braving the 3 or 4 miles in the car worth it. read more

Well, I guess The Brew Shop has officially been around long enough that they stopped caring. We went in Sunday to fill a growler, and the staff was not friendly at all. They did not properly close the growler (much less seal it), and it spilled in my car soon after we left. By the time we got home, the beer was flat. Great spot for local craft brews! The Brew Shop always has a good selection for growler fills (reasonable prices too!) They also carry local goods like coffee beans, baked goods, and beef jerky! In addition to coolers filled with beer, they boast a great selection of wine, and you can also pick up home brewing supplies. Love, love, love this place. I don't know why it has taken so long for someone to have beer and brewing supplies at the same location, but the Brew Shop has both! Great selections of hard-to-find craft beers, as well as a number of local beers available on tap for takeaway (including in tiny 16 oz. growlers). Wine selection seems pretty solid as well. The hidden gem is the home brewing supplies and equipment toward the back of the Shop, including a custom-made electric grain grinder. This place is a real treat, and a must-visit for local beer fans. Owners Beth and Julie know their stuff, and the Brew Shop is a welcome addition to the Rosslyn-Clarendon corridor. read more

I walk by this place every day on my way to work and am glad they finally opened. My coworkers and I went the day it opened and were pleasantly surprised by the depth and breadth of their beer, wine, and cider selections! I did not expect to see all the brewing materials in the store and think its a great idea. As for the beer, and the reason I am posting a review: I cannot believe the variety they have in the store. The brew shop is awesome! The store has a unique vibe, very reasonable prices, and a very friendly staff. I first came two weeks ago and bought a growler of one of their 6/7 rotating taps. I came back a week later to get a growler refill (only $8.99) and they had a completely new selection of beers...very cool. My girlfriend and I especially love coming here because it's dog friendly and we're able to walk her dog and bring him in the store with us. A nice shop that offers a decent selection of brews. I do like the fact that they have growlers to go and beer on tap. The staff was very accommodating and suggested a couple of good beers for me. They do have home brew kits which is cool and I'll definitely be picking one up.
