This is a pretty small shop. The selection isn't large, but they have some interesting things. Prices seemed on part with other small wine shows. It felt a little disorganized and like everything was in the middle of restocking, because some areas had half open boxes and partially empty shelves -- and the one staff member there was literally restocking things. We got some beer and they were friendly enough at check out. I would stop by again if in the area. read more

I had great experiences at this little shop. The people working there were all friendly and introduced me to some really tasty reds I did not know. It looks like they have more beer varieties than they do wine, but the atmosphere is nice and friendly. On a complete different note: They sell these AMAZING versions of Peanut Butter Cups (which are oversized) and they're totally worth the price. The selection of local craft brew is excellent and they do seem to have some solid National big release beers. Prices are fair. This is what a local brew shop should be. What a great little shop. Was walking past looking for a place to have lunch while at a conference in Crystal City and I saw the Game of Thrones inspired Ommegang Three-Eyed Raven in the window. Grabbed one, nodded my head in approval of the other beers offered, paid and went on my way. I'd frequent it more often, especially the tastings, if I lived or worked in the area. Ok, truthfully, the place's small footprint probably means that it should cap out at four because there's only so much variety they can offer, and it's not very much. But the selection is well-curated, the staff incredibly friendly, and they offer free beer and wine tastings on certain days. I think doing the best with what you got, especially for a small, independent business merits that extra star. read more

4 stars for a fun little beer and wine shop. My wife and I were over in Virginia having some lunch and decided to stop and look for some beer and wine. While we originally checked out one of the Virginia ABCs, both their selection and setup wasn't great, so we decided to give Crystal City Wine Shop a try. Located on 20th St near an underground mall (who knew?) and about a block from the metro stop, Crystal City Wine is a fun little shop that included lots of good craft beers and various types of wine. While lots of shops offer good selection, what set this place apart was the service. While we were in the shop, a gentleman told us about some of the various beers, offered us some free beer for National Beer Day and told us about other tastings and events offered by the Shop. This made the experience feel much more like a mom and pop shop that you'd find in a hipper area rather than a government-run wine shop near a mall, which is something that I very much appreciated. Overall, if you are looking to grab some good beer or wine while over in the Crystal City/Alexandria area, this Crystal City Wine is definitely worth giving a try. read more

Really terrible service - as a wine lover I've been to many wine shops and this was by far the worst service I've encountered. It's a small place with a slim selection (which is fine) but this afternoon we went in and the guys at the cash register/counter didn't even bother to look up or acknowledge us. We said hello and they still didn't raise their heads. Then we tried to find a particular wine and they were completely unhelpful. We then had to wait to get our wines checked out as the guys clearly showed we were so unimportant as customers that they'd rather be boxing up wines instead of ringing us up. We even tried to make small talk with these guys and they were not having it. Like I said, worst customer service I've ever had in a wine shop. The two guys seemed completely miserable in there. read more

I was very excited when this store opened in the original location on Eads st and then more so when it moved to its current spot on 20th & Crystal Drive since its always good to have a wine store across the street. HOWEVER- I fine the selection to be very disappointing. I lie the idea that they stock smaller independent wineries but it also makes selecting a bottle very tricky as its is unlikely that you would have any background on the wine. You are really dependent on the store employees to help select something but compared to other wine stores where i have be very happy with guidance and selection i have found that I dislike-often quite a bit-the wines recommended. I'm not a wine stop but I also know a bit about wine and what i like so i can usually find something a like on any wine list of wine shop-but here its been difficult. They could use more descriptive tags-fruity, full bodied, acidic, tannic, etc. This would make it slightly more easy to find the type of wine you like. i also find that many of the wines are sold out and the volume is low. Yes-they have free tastings but that's not really what i look for in a well stocked, well run independent wine shop. I wish i could support a local business but its just not as good as it could be. They do have a good beer selection. read more

This is probably a place to get wine and not beer. The beer was ridiculously priced, while a decent selection, $9.99 for a 6 pack of Yuengling is higher than NYC prices. A 12 pack of Brooklyn was $12.99! I understand it's a local store and I always support local stores but the beer prices were over the top, especially given the area. This is all hotels and one of the only games in town for to go alcohol. However, the rite aid inside the weird underground mall had beer and wine for much cheaper. I give it 3 because the lady behind the counter was extremely friendly. Wine is obviously their niche so maybe stick with that and save buying a sixer from somewhere else. read more

Have been here a few times, they do free wine tastings on Friday nights! The store employees here know a lot about the wine origins and tastes, and can help recommend different wines for your holidays meals! Additionally, if they don't have something in store, they can order it for you in store and let you know when to come back to pick it up! In additional to wine, they have a pretty wide selection of regional beers, which they have updated for the holidays currently. Awesome! Would definitely check out on a Friday night for the wine tasting and some suggestions on food parings! read more

Pretty solid find with crystal city wine shop. I was walking to Happy Hour and spotted this shop and decided to pop in. They had a bottle that I had had just a couple of days ago at a steakhouse in Chicago and I decided to buy some bottles of it for my collection. While I didn't give more stars just based on the amount of wine they sell. So happy to have this shop within walking distance of my apartment! (Especially on snow days!) Staff are always helpful and cheery, tastings are fun and prices are exactly where they should be for quality and convenience! I'm so glad I wandered in here! This is a cute little wine and craft beer shop in Crystal City with a great selection of only the best stuff for wine snobs and beer nerds. I told the nice young man what I liked for wine and he guided me to a delecious granache blend, which I'm enjoying right now. My partner found a few beers that we both love and literally cannot find anywhere usually (Ballast Point vanilla-coffee porter and Old Rasputin stout). Yes it is expensive, but that's what you get for quality and Crystal City. read more

Really enjoyed my first visit to the new Crystal City Wine Shop. Although I'm not into wine, I decided to stop in and see if they offered any craft brews. I was pleasantly surprised to find a decent selection, with a lot of seasonals and many other beers I'd never seen before. They also had interesting upscale "bar snacks," as well as plenty of wine. I don't know much about wine, but it appeared they had a good selection of that as well. The place was rather upscale, and the prices were a little higher than average. However, the customer service was excellent and the location is very convenient. I'm happy to finally have a place right here in Crystal City where I can find some craft and micro brews. read more

Disappointed they closed their old location as that one was closer to my house, but this one is just a slightly longer walk away. And to be honest, two locations within a five minute walk of one another might be too much money spent on rent for them for such a small, local shop. Anyways, I have never has a bad experience here and have been probably 50 times in the last 18 months as I pop in on my walk home from work sometimes. They're always friendly and their beer selection's lack of a huge variety is made up for by the fact that it is really well curated. Don't get me wrong, they always have a variety and lots of awesome beers, but not the same gigantic selection one might find at Whole Foods where inventory space is less of an issue. It's not a place I go for Yuengling or anything, but they always have interesting selections from breweries like Bell's, Ballast Point, Flying Dog, and Stone. So it keeps me coming back on my way home from work to see what new beers they may have. They have even special ordered me beer that I was interested in but was hard to get and they didn't have any in stock (Bell's Hopslam). I can't speak as much to the wine as I'm not as much a wine drinker, but really a fantastic spot and seems like they have a larger variety of wine than beer even. They also have a variety of curated crackers, meats, and cheeses so I'll often grab something interesting to put on crackers. Crystal City is lucky to have such a wonderful and different establishment. read more

Decent selection of wine and beer, however typically overpriced. The main reason I will NOT be going back is because of the service. An older man has pretty much ignored me or interacted with me as little as he could multiple times. This past time I brought my selection of wine to the register and waited what felt like over a minute (probably only 30 seconds to be honest) for him to ring me up. Instead he continued doing something on his computer, then without taking his eyes off the computer, he asked me, "Is that all?" and gave me my total. I told him thanks and to have a great day, to which he didn't respond. I would normally chock this up to someone having a bad day, but he treats me like this every time I've been there. Maybe I look mean or something, I donno. The other clerks have been much friendlier, but this guy just makes me not want to go back. read more

I was passing through on business and stumbled onto this GREAT wine shop. They have a good selection of wines both domestic and foreign. I happened to hit a tasting night. There were 10 or so people there at 7 PM on a lightly raining evening which says something about their offerings. I ended up buying the last bottle of one of their sample reds from Spain for $11! Their staff was knowledgeable, providing a lot of info about the specific tasting wines as well as general background info on wine. I'm from the San Francisco area and drink a lot of local wine. I would certainly shop at a local branch of the Crystal City Wine Shop if they had one near me. read more
