Date of tow Service request 10/11/2024 @10:20am I have statefarm insurance with roadside assistance. After making a request for a tow on the Statefarm app. With-in minutes i received a call from K & R towing Service asking me to confirm my location the woman let me know she will dispatch a truck & send them my way & would be there shortly. I honestly believed i was going to wait a while but nope the tow truck arrived maybe 10-15 minutes after i got off the phone with K & R woman the man that assisted me was friendly & made the process smooth & stress-free he let me know that he was going to start to load up my car on to the truck & i can just go wait in the truck In the stressful moment of having your car be on the side of a busy freeway I was relieved to have had this man just take over and help me, the drive to the autoshop was quick & simple honestly great service I did not catch the man's name i just remember his tattoos & his boots with i believe were American flags on them anyway Thank you for being quick & made the towing of my vehicle easy & less stressful for me read more

People hire others largely as a matter of convenience. A person hires a lawn care service, not because he or she does not have the ability to take care of the lawn, but because they'd rather someone else do it to free up time for other things. It's the same reason that a person hires a maid service. And, convenience is the reason that I chose to hire K & R Towing to handle a vehicle with a dead battery when I was too busy to handle it myself. On the morning of January 24, I was disappointed to find that my 2017 Toyota Prius Prime was a brick in the driveway. I was in a rush, so I took my wife's car for the day and arranged with Toyota North Bakersfield to have the battery replaced so that I would not lose any time in my day or my week. Toyota North Bakersfield told me that if I could get the vehicle to them that they would take care of the rest. They provided the contact information for their preferred tow service, K & R Towing, and instructed me to have K & R pick up the vehicle with the instruction that Toyota would pay for the service by purchase order and I could reimburse Toyota when I settled my bill. I called K & R and informed them of my situation. I told them where to find my vehicle with the dead battery, and provided the address and contact information for my wife who would provide the keys to the car and would be home all day. They informed me that they would pick up the vehicle in approximately in one hour, and we ended the conversation. I was disappointed to return after work to find my vehicle still sitting in the driveway untouched. I later learned from my wife the following information: 1. K & R Towing called her approximately 1 hour after I had made the appointment. They were unable to locate the vehicle. After a short discussion, she discovered that they were several blocks away. They went to the house at 3119 rather than 3419. 2. After correcting for the address issue, the driver spent several minutes with my wife and the vehicle and determined that he was incapable of completing the tow with a flatbed because he was unable to put the car into neutral. I deduct no points from my review for the incorrect address. Bad addresses are a mistake, but they are not a mistake that speaks to the core of the company's ability to do their job correctly, but it is relevant to my overall opinion, particularly if it turns out to be a common occurrence (I have no information to indicate that this is a common occurrence.) I deduct all points for problem #2. K & R was aware of the vehicle's dead battery, and as the preferred vendor for Toyota North Bakersfield, they should have been aware that a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime is an electric vehicle, which requires power to shift the vehicle into neutral. My wife provided the driver the key to the car, which provided the driver access to the cabin of the car, the hood latch, the dead 12-volt battery, the power button, and the neutral button. With these tools, the driver had two options: 1--the harder option--The driver could have connected a charging pack to the battery to put the car into neutral and tow the vehicle onto the flatbed as they would do with any other disabled vehicle. This option would require a little more time and effort because the alley is tight and time and effort would be required to first get the car out of the driveway and in line with the bed before completing the lift. 2--the easier option--The driver could have jumped the car to get it started, Power it on and drive it either onto the truck bed or into alignment with the truck bed before continuing with the standard tow. The truck driver did not do either of these things. He abandoned the job telling my wife that it was not possible to put the car into neutral and thus not possible to tow the vehicle at all. As a consequence of the driver's inability to tow a vehicle with a dead battery, I had to deal with the problem myself the next day and lost half a day of work. K & R did not make my life more convenient, and rather than dealing with the problem, which should have been simple for professionals who deal with dead batteries daily, they left the problem for a casual vehicle owner who deals with dead batteries once every decade. Admittedly, if the tow company does not stock their vehicles with jumper cables or with jumper battery packs, the above would have been impossible; however, I expect all tow truck drivers to carry at least one of these two essential tools of the trade in their vehicles at all times--especially when the dispatch order includes information that there will be a vehicle with a dead battery. As a result of the above, I do not trust K & R Towing to perform the job if hired in the future and will not be returning to them. read more

Had a car towed and needed further assistance because the driver didn't contact me to help with parking so they towed it to a random lot and locked the keys in the vehicle. CHP had called them to tow my car. I asked driver how the rate was and based on my understanding he said it would be hourly charge based on time it would take to drop off starting from picking up the car... well for a 30 minutes service I was charged for an hour... once I called them to follow up I was told a separate thing that charge time starts from CHP call to when towing machine is back... obviously this is not correct as if I should have been charged much more than an hour since the driver was talking to his friend for almost 30 minutes after he dropped off my car...Unfortunately it seems they don't care about reviews... read more

On 11/26/2021 at 5:15 PM, this flatbed driver was swerving between two lanes down Manor and then across three lanes on Union while attempting to go easily 15 miles an hour faster than other cars. As Manor changed to Union, he went into the right lane and I was relieved. However a mere two streets down, I was attempting to turn left into my neighborhood when he came across all of the lanes and nearly slammed into my back end. My engine blew on I-5 as I was heading south home to San Diego. I was stuck almost an hour from Bakersfield and was towed to the Hyundai dealership. The driver was very polite and helpful. The owner was amazing and so very helpful. What could have turned in to a REALLY bad day was made a much more pleasant experience. I would highly recommend them. I had an interaction with one of their employees, it was last Thursday, we were driving through a school zone during the time kids are starting school, and one of their tow trucks drove through the school zone going 45-50 so we get next to him at the light and I tell him "hey man it's a school zone 25 mph" the first words out of his mouth was "oh yeah fuck you" light turns green and he speeds away, as he speeds away he yells out "chuck you faggot" I proceeded to call the company and tell them what happened they said they would take care of it and give me a call back, that was last Thursday. My wife was in a single car accident where her car was broke down in the middle of a turning lane. She called K & R, and they quoted her a fee of $90, which both sides agreed to. 45 minutes later, the police saw her stranded on the road, and also called K&R. 3 minutes later after the police called for the tow, miraculously, the K&R driver showed up and towed my vehicle back to the tow yard. I called to get the car the next day, and the dispatcher told me that there was a police hold on my car. I went to the police department, and they had no record of the tow or the police hold. They sent me to the Sheriff's Dept. The Sheriff's Dept also had no record of the tow, and the number that the driver wrote on the back of the card was for a different vehicle/tow. I went to the tow yard and the dispatcher talked to me like I was stupid and a low life. I told him that this was a private tow, but he said that they ALWAYS call the police to make sure that there was not a hold on the vehicle. He gets on the phone and started laughing and whispering to whomever was on the other end of the phone. Regardless, the police confirmed what I said, but he still insisted that I owed $193. He alleged that his driver couldn't find our vehicle from my wife's initial call, and that they only showed up the second time because the police ordered the tow; again, amazingly only 3 minutes later. The owner asked me if I wanted to pay the $193. I replied, no, I want to pay what I was quoted. He then told me to leave (without my vehicle). Of course, I got heated and loud, and after attempting to give him my credit card despite my dissatisfaction, he refused and said that he was calling the police. Long story short, the police showed up and re-verified that there was not a hold on my car and validated my story to the owner. They explained to the owner and me that the price was a civil matter rather than a police matter. They left and instead of doing the right thing, the owner still charged me $193. K&R finally retrieved my car and left it on the street at my request. I called Jim's Towing service, and their driver was 10 times more careful with my car and much more professional than I expected. He volunteered to change my flat to prevent any front end damage to my car, he put my car on his flat bed, and he towed it to my house for only $80. Take my advice, if you need a tow, DO NOT call K&R. Call Jim's; they are about customer service, not just about getting the most that they can out of people who are already down on their luck. read more

NEVER, EVER use this place!! My 80 yr. old mother had a wreck. K & R was called by police to pick up the car. The insurance co. asked us to call and have the car released. K & R would not release my mother's car without her coming down to sign for it. She was having surgery for a broken back the following day. She could however, give them verbal confirmation, but they refused. They wouldn't work with us at all! This was due to the fact that they wanted to continue collecting a daily fee for keeping her car. Inconsiderate and greedy does not begin to describe this business!! If that wasnt enough, even after the insurance company picked up the car, they sent a letter stating they were going to sell her car for the money to keep it 3 days on their lot.
