This company sold me a vehicle, having vonvinced me that there wasabsolutely nothing wrong with it, even went as far as showing me the code reader connected to it. Started it up, it sounds great. He made it sound so simple, how i would go about getting it registered and getting lisence plates n all, just so quick n easy! So i take it down to where he said to take it - it doesnt pass smog. Why? (Heres the kicker:) -ITS MISSING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER!!! ITS BEEN "STRAIGHT-PIPED"!! (Which explains why it runs so quietly.. and also why i never even thought to check!) So smog guy puts "TAMPERED" on my smog paper! So now no ones gonna help me pay for a brand new one, and according to this smog guy, its gonna cost me $4000-$8000!!!!!!! To replace it! - n thats the only way!! I only paid $1,500 for the shit! + $500 to register it. Dmv says i can have my plates soon as it passes smog! Ill NEVER be able to afford that! I cant even afford $400! -let alone $4000!!! Im so totally screwed! Idek what to do! But it says here on their paperwork they gave me, that if i dont fix whatever needs to be fixed n get it to pass smog - the tow company can even take away any other cars that i may own or drive as well as this one!!! Golden Empire should have been my first call this morning, however, I called Trinity towing instead and was quoted one rate, and then the driver called and told me it was a higher rate. I hate businesses that do bait and switch, and with towing mostly being an emergency need, I'm sure most people fall for these tactics. Fortunately, my next call was to Golden Empire, and I was given a flat rate quote, which was also less than the first place. They had my car picked up and delivered about an hour after my call. I have to write this review. Normally I only want to talk about food and share what I think are great places for the traveling working man. God forbid you need a towing service while in Bakersfield call these guys. My daughter's car had a power steering failure and needed to be towed. In 31 minutes German was there meeting my wife and had the car on the truck in 10 mins on a busy street. I met him at the auto shop after hours and German stayed there helping to ensure we had placed the car in the best position for the shop to deal with in the morning. German was as authentic and professional as they come and I genuinely appreciate the follow through. Having car issues can be stressful enough so folks like German make the situation palatable. I hate to admit that Golden Empire wasn't my first tow place to call. They're well known in town, so I stupidly assumed they would be expensive. I was completely wrong, and they were actually cheaper than my insurance deductible for a tow. Dispatch was super friendly and honest when I called to schedule a residential pick up to a dealership. I was quoted an hour and a half, and it was about that time frame. Darin, our tow truck driver in truck #83, was amazing. He worked quickly, and efficiently and our car was loaded in about 20 minutes. I know who to call, and suggest to others from here on out. If you want to get ripped off told that its part of their policy. You came to the right place. The Staff is unprofessional and rude for no reason. I was called at 8 pm at night and told I was still being charged after the equipment was dropped off around 5 pm, because the drivers could not leave the drop off destination until I made payment. Mind you no one called me sooner to tell us this or initially when I spoke to the dispatcher she never mentioned that we had to pay the driver right there and then otherwise they're still on the clock. instead of notifying me as soon as they were finished, and letting the driver make their way back to Bakersfield they decided to let the drivers sit in Lancaster, until I processed payment. Who does that??? Why not let the driver start heading home and we could figure out the payment. What was supposed to be 10-12 Hour day they ended charging me 19 HOURS per Truck. DONT hire these people their SCAMMERS. Your told one thing and then get called and hit with an INSANE bill. They are an Unethical business. In the past I used this service for my father when he drove long distance. Tried today and call to get a tow truck for my sister she was on the side of the road on the 99 freeway going northbound. I called and confirmed the tow truck and they said it would be a 40 minute wait. I called back in 50 minutes to check on the status and they said they never received a tow. I explained that I made the call with the location of my sister and where the car should go to. The dispatcher deflected all my concerns and got defensive and said that I hung up so I did not want a tow truck when I was explaining that I provided the car information, location, and home address and they hung up after I gave them that information. The dispatcher was very rude and got defensive and showed no accountability for having my sister wait 40 minutes for no tow truck to arrive. Hope they do better next time and those in charge of picking up the phone should be kind to those calling and wanting to use their device. read more
