My daughter had been attending K Music from the age of 3.5 and we've absolutely loved it. First Yelp review, here goes nothing! Heading into my freshman year of high school, I started taking piano lessons from Mrs. Mariana Khachatryan. Previously, I had already learned piano lessons for 8 months during fifth grade, before quitting. Perhaps I lost interest because I had to practice an hour every day or because my passion just wasn't strong enough. 3 years later, I decided to give piano another try, and this time I was taking lessons with her, trying to pass the MTAC CM level 3 exam. Her style of teaching was different from my other teachers; she emphasized on perfecting technique. It was difficult in the beginning, but she was very reasonable with my skill level and work load from school. I had a bad habit of playing the piano with moving wrists, but my posture improved tremendously after a few months. However, I was getting frustrated throughout the lessons because of this meticulous way of practicing classical music, until one day she said, "I'll teach you one song of your choice if you pass the CM test. Thus, that became my motivation for practicing everyday. When I took the CM exam in March, I was able to pass the test and then we got straight to work on the piece that I wanted to learn: Flower Dance. She had taught me that hard work can overcome any obstacle, regardless of whether you had small hands, poor finger dexterity, or any other form of limitation. And here I am today, a college student trying to minor in piano in hopes of teaching piano students just like her. Although I have stopped taking lessons from her because of time limitations, she's still very eager to help me with any advice when it comes to music and college. I can't speak for any of the kids that is forced into the piano bizz because their parents want them to be the next young Mozart or Lang Lang, although I'm sure Mariana has a way of stirring your kid's passion even then.
