You save me a lot of travel time, by offering an afternoon repair. 1.What is amazing is the clearer, brighter tones I get, particularly in the throat tones and the Bb (thumb and forefinger) and highest register. 2.Wobble is gone. I have greased the cork and am being carefull as I put it together. 3.Low register C# key/high G# works smoothly, the "catch" is gone. 4.Most important - the low E to F# (left little finger to right little finger) now works perfectly, the delay and muddled tones as I changed notes are gone. New pads and the small spacer pad seem to have soved my problem. My original pads looked terrible and changing them made the difference. The dirt between the keys was absolutely surprising. Wow. All I can say is WOW!!! Krys is THE MAN!!! I literally called him at 5:45pm tonight on my way home on the gold line upon searching "woodwind repair" on my way home, because my Oboe needed a new low-B pad installed (the old one was SHOT)--he was cordial, and said he had left for the day, but could be back by 7:00. Me--hungry as I was after 5 hours of lessons in Arcadia (with my favorite students)--said "sure--I'll go have a bite to eat and check in at 7:00." Come 7:00 and a full stomach: I called up Krys and he said "of course, I can be there in about 10 minutes" and quoted me a great price. I hung around, met him and shook his hand--and we went right up to his workshop to get started. As he worked on my Oboe: we had a great chat--I tried out an oboe he had for sale and told him some pointers to help it be worth more of a markup than what he was going to try to sell it for (gotta help a bro make some extra money if I can!), and ended up having an AMAZING visit overall with him as he replaced my low-B pad. I played his oboe for him some more, which was actually nice for an import, and we had a great chat about Saxophones and Clarinets--and I even pulled out my beloved Bassoon to show him. Wow is an understatement! I took my Buffet Crampon Super Dynaction after a long hiatus from playing. The horn needed a tune up and keypad replacement; among other things. I got the horn back and it is responding beautifully. It is like a new old horn I need to recognized all over again; the ease of response at the lightest touch is amazing! Great work. With a clarinet in need of an emergency cork replacement, chances of getting it fixed on a sat night with a concert the next morning was slim. On a chance I texted them and with a surprise, I got a response. He was gone for the night but still asked what I needed. He said he would meet me at his shop so we raced over to Pasadena. Krys is a committed and dedicated expert at his craft of woodwind repair who obviously cares deeply about doing fine work. He is a true professional in every sense of the word. (He's also a helluva multi-reed and brass jazz player. Be sure to listen to the recording samples on his site.) Krys gave me a more than fair price for some work on my Yamaha 62 tenor (and was kind enough to do a little gratis repair on my Yanagisawa 901 that I hadn't even asked for). When I had a couple of related issues that needed tweaking a few days later, Krys did the quick fixes at no additional charge while I waited. A week later I had a couple of new problems with my tenors and, once again, Krys repaired them for a very reasonable price while I waited. The work was completed in about 40 minutes and both saxes are in excellent shape thanks to him. I have used a few other sax techs in the past, but Krys outshines them all. I plan to call upon him for any future work I might have -- from basic check-up to full overhaul -- and I'm confident that there is no job too big for him. Great experience with this small shop. Contacted Steven about a small fix to my son's vintage sax. I wanted the work done the same day. We set up a time and Steven took the horn, noticing a couple of other things that needed adjusting. We agreed on a new price and he worked late to get it all done. I needed a repair shop to get an old bari sax of mine in playable condition (it's my doubling instrument, I'm principally a bassoonist) and Krys took care of it inside of a week--there were leaks, the neck was out of round, bent keys. This is the third year in a row that I've taken my vintage Selmer Mark VI tenor sax (1971) in for a general tune-up to Krys, who runs Pasadena Woodwind Repair, and each time my experience has been amazing. I visit L.A. in May-June every year, and two years ago I managed to locate this vintage horn in Westminster, CA, but it hadn't been played in many years, and needed a complete tune-up. Unlike some others, Krys didn't give me that guff about needing a complete re-padding and overhaul and yadda yadda yadda to pump up the estimate. After studying the horn thoroughly in my presence, he said that he wanted to make the least possible changes, as the integrity of the horn and its sound is best preserved by keeping the old pads, if at all possible. He figured at that point that at most he would change 3 or 4 pads, remove some dinks in the bell, and tighten up everything in sight. Well, picture my delight when I returned two days later (he expedited the work as I was to return to India shortly), and Krys tells me that he managed to salvage ALL the original pads, and didn't change a single one. And then he played the horn for me, and WOW, it sounded brilliant! And for all this super-expedite work, he charged me less than one-third of what some others take before they even look at your saxophone. So ever since then, I bring my tenor sax back every summer, and just leave it to Krys's tender loving care for a couple of days, and he has it singing each time. And amazingly, he charges less each year for the follow-up---- this time it was an ultra-low fee of $85 only, but I insisted on rounding it off to $100. So I head back to India tomorrow, and I'm sure that a year down the line, even if everything is hunky dory with my horn, I'll bring it back to Krys for a once-over. read more

I took a pawn-shop basket-case Conn 12M bari sax to Krys and he overhauled it and did some adjustments on-the-spot after a test play when I picked it up.
