Hidy Ochiai Karate stood out above them all! Their classes go beyond the regular karate classes that other martial arts places provide. Here, they also do Kobudo which we learned is the use of ancient weapons! Trust me, your kids will go bonkers for this class!! It's taught in an extremely safe way, but still makes the kids feel like ninja superstars! I kind of want to take it myself :D Our daughter also did the summer camp this past summer and she loved it! She came home with real calligraphy paintings! Another thing that pushes them to the top is that they have Master Hidy Ochiai himself who comes down from New York to do special teachings with the kids each month. Look him up on YouTube and watch him slice an apple on someone's neck .... wait for it .... blindfolded! His skills are incredible and he is incredible with the kids as well. This school is in no competition with any other Martial Arts place because it's THAT good! I want to write a novel on here, lol, but I won't. Just one last thing to note: Sensei Winkler himself is AHmazing with the kids too. The way he talks and interacts with the kids makes them listen and have fun. I've sat and watched him a number of times when my daughter is in class. He's structured and fun, which is exactly what my daughter needs! Sensei Winkler is an incredible teacher because he has a lifetime of experience and many trophies from national Championship tournaments! If this child was my own, I would seek to remove the double nose pierced woman who was in a caregiver position. Martial Artists understand everything is energy. If you don't have patience to work with children, then it's in the community's best interest if you find a different profession. I don't know a single healthy parent who supports teachers yelling at their child. Having a firm tone is one thing, but an emotionally charged scream is more than just disrespectful. My daughters taekwondo master is in the business of building confidence... not destroying a kids self esteem.

Atmosphere is great and the instructors seem to care a lot. They've got great covid protocols and they don't stuff so many kids in a class. Also, since parents can't stay to watch, they set up a Zoom session for each class so you can watch from your computer or phone. I also love that you're not tied down to a schedule. Every week you can decide which class you want your kids to attend. For example, there's a beginners class scheduled for everyday that starts at 5:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays and 4:50 on Tuesday and Thursdays. You get to choose which ones to attend. Sessions last 40 minutes, twice a week. Overall I highly recommend!

We were having trouble with my son's teacher, and decided to pull him out of the school, and cancel the after school. The school ended up letting the teacher go and convinced us to stay. We had a lot going on (anyone with an autistic child can relate) and didn't even think about the Taekwondo. The master was picking up kids at the school, saw our son, and wrote my wife an email accusing us of being dishonest, and saying he was going to charge us over $1k. I don't care about the money, but what type of Taekwondo master accuses a woman (both of us work full time) dealing with a tough situation of being a liar? I don't want my son learning from this type of man who makes accusations without the full story. I wouldn't send your kids here. There are many options for Taekwondo with Masters who are honorable and command respect, but not this place.

It is a safe and welcoming space for not just Okinawan people, but those interested in learning more about the culture and tradition. Those were great classes, and when it was time for me to find a new dojo, I joined Master Folta at his new location. It's a fine space, and the training there is authentic and excellent. Master Folta is kind and genuine, while also encouraging everyone to reach for the highest standards. His careful eye has improved my karate in many ways, large and small. I was careful in my choice of schools, and picked the best one in the area. I've seen his students, both kids and adults, get better over time and stay with the program. If you're serious about learning karate that works, this is the place I recommend. There is a lot to learn, and this is the real deal.

There is competition but not at someone's expense. I have been very impressed with the students and instructors here. I started Tae Kwon Do in 1992 so I have had different instructors along the way. The facilities itself are amazing. Grandmaster Choi has the largest Tae Kwon Do floor I have ever seen. Its bigger than a basketball court. In another part of his building he has a full gym where he offers other different aerobics classes. I looked into the other Tae Kwon Do schools before I decided on going here. I couldn't be happier with my decision. I highly recommend this school to anyone looking to learn martial arts or who just want to start where they left off.
