Coming from Montgomery County, I was amazed by this place. The place is located peacefully in the middle of a park. Large parking lot too. I came here for a party for the holidays hosted by my friends. As soon as you enter, you have a big indoor water park to the right. Straight ahead, you have a weight lifting gym thats on par with commercial gyms and to the left, a small climbing wall. A good amount of staff are here and they are friendly. Several walked by saying hello with smiles. Again, coming from MoCo, I was like "Maybe moving to Northern Virginia is worth the cost". The bathrooms are a bit outdated, but not a deal breaker. It is still relatively clean like the rest of the facilities. The kitchen to the community room that my friends rented out had a lot of appliances (4 air fryers) and a large oven for reheating. I thought that was pretty cool. Also, I saw two woks there. This threw me offguard honestly. read more

we didn't check out the whole complex, and it looks like there is much more there. we did take a great hike on the trails around the ponds. fairly easy, flat trails. lots of birds & occasional other wildlife. very relaxing and uplifting. looking forward to looking around the rest of the facility. read more

This review is for the preschool. This was my son's first year at school, and I couldn't have wished for better teachers than Ms. Caitlin and Ms. Peggy. They are so kind and caring to their students, and the activities they do are fun and meaningful. He has made lots of friends and comes home excited to talk about his day. The daily photos are soooo reassuring to receive when you are sending your child to school for the first time. It also gives my family a chance to talk about my son's day by looking at the pictures together. The monthly newsletters are so detailed, and have conversation points to go over with your child. Lastly, my son follows a special diet, and his teachers have been so supportive of that and always make sure he is included in food activities/parties by giving me lots of notice when they are planning anything so I can provide a substitution. I wish my son could stay with Ms. Caitlin and Ms. Peggy for all his years at preschool, but we are also excited to see how great the other teachers are. This preschool is also great because they have the Parent Activity Committee (like a PTA), which plans fun events and get togethers. We feel like we are part of a great community! read more

Sexual harassment! My kids were profiled by their gender and we were not treated equally. I went there with my kids, they were super excited as that was the only day off our family could spend together and this was the only place around with a kids' swimming area being open from 9 am. As soon as we entered the swimming pool area lifeguard came and told me that I should put a swimming top on my 3 year old daughter because he is uncomfortable seeing her nipples and a swimsuit on top of my 1.5 y.o. son's swimming diaper. Then he called 18 looking girl, kinda a "manager" that explained that it is for the SAFETY and that's the rules they have in Loudoun county. They also declined to show those rules to us. After I came home, I searched for an hour and didn't find those rules anywhere so, please, refer me to the right website in your reply. I didn't have a top with me and I put a life vests on my kids FOR THE SAFETY/covering nipples and to make the lifeguard "comfortable". I also never ever had any issues with about 5 other rec centers in the area we usually go. They asked us to leave with a refund. We drove 1h so our kids could play in the swimming area which was kindly explained to this Rec-center employees. We were the only people in the kids swimming area and the pool was completely empty, but those people were unbreakable. The stuff called the police and pressed charges for the trespassing as we declined to leave. 2 officers came and filed trespassing reports, saying we will be arrested if will come back. BTW, they also declined to give us a refund and were interrupting while I was changing my kids' cloth. Did you made all this comedy for my daughter not having a top and using live vest instead or because we were speaking Ukrainian? This situation is ridiculous and a shame of the US justice. They don't treat people equally - be aware if you came from the overseas and have an accent. read more

They offer a jacuzzi but most of the time is closed because they say there is a shortage of life guards. That is a lie, there are plenty of people trying to work, they just won't open every day. Before I used to go 2-3 times a week to treat my back pain, now I have to call to see if they are open, that is very inconvenient and the management should do something about it. Wow. I wish we had something like this where we're from. We came here to kill some time with a couple toddlers on a family trip, and I'm glad we did! It was a lot of fun for both them, plus our teen daughter! If I'm honest, I had a lot of fun as well. They have a massive and truly fun water slide, which feels intense enough I didn't think my 3yo could handle it. Between the dedicated toddler areas, lazy river, whirlpool and everything else, there was plenty of variety for all of us. The rest of the rec center looked pretty awesome as well, but we didn't visit any of that on this trip. We'll surely be back, though. read more

What a great and luxurious indoor pool. I take my 6 year old here all the time and she absolutely loves it. It's easy to spend a lot of time here if you're looking for a good activity. I am very impressed at how clean they keep the water; and the lifeguards are incredibly nice and welcoming. This is a great place for all ages as it includes a spa hot tub (16 and older), a lazy river plus fun whirlpool, outstanding slide, great little kiddie pool, and of course good areas to just swim. It's very obvious that the staff takes the extra effort to keep the locker rooms, stalls, and showers clean. Overall, it's one of my favorite indoor pools and it's managed very well!! read more

Have to bump up the rating for the redesigned facility/gym area alone. It's absolutely beautiful, the equipment is new and state of the art. There are less machines to work on but more cross training and bikes. However the place is never 'jam packed' so you don't have to worry about having to wait for someone to finish their workout. There's still a small army of juveniles here as they've redesigned the competition pool area. However that's just a reality of coming here to workout. Weekends are a nightmare for parking, so don't expect to not find any close to the building and 1/3 of the county will be there to see the heats, you'll need to push past them in order to make your way to the gym area. read more

This was hilarious fun. 1/2 my office participated in The Great Amazing Race. There are 3 locations for challenges and there were 6 or 7 challenges total. Divisions based on age group and also type of race. Options... kid/kid...kid/adult..adult/adult. Now I don't want to spoil to everyone on Yelp what the challenges were. That would be so bad.... but I wish I could. I am still giggling about the whole thing. The front door attendant told me I couldn't use the bathroom unless I had a reservation. He pointed me to the nonexistent "port a potties near the baseball fields". I understand COVID policies but how are you going to have a huge building with restrooms at a park and not allow guests to use them...... also it's a Monday afternoon at 1pm.. What a gem! We've going here for over one year now and are still in love with the place. The staff is also SUPER nice, helpful and knowledgeable. My go to is the Yoga class. I will note IF you are looking for hardcore and intense - this is not your place. The practice is a yin and hatha combination. All sorts of alternatives are suggested depending on where you are physically and mentally; a true no judgment zone. My husband prefers the general exercise area; spends his time walking the track upstairs and then heads down to use the machines. A lovely blend and highly recommend. read more

This is a great place to go for walks - Claude Moore Park surrounds the rec center and there's a lot of historical buildings and plaques to read. Also lots of good trails and there's lots of deer in the park so sometimes I get to see some wildlife! As for the rec center itself - very big, clean, and the staff are all so friendly. read more

My teenage kids go here for swim practice and they are always complaining about the competition pool. The other day they said there was a giant spider in the gutter. Also, they said there are giant hair clumps on deck and in the pool. Last thing-- there are cracked and chipped tiles all over the place! My oldest has cut himself several times getting out of the pool. I understand that it is an older pool, but can you take a little bit of time to clean it? So I'm doing a triathlon, and the last time I was in a pool I was bellying up to the swim up bar in Mexico ordering another round of Coronas. Probably a good idea to get some swim practice in me thinks. Enter Claude Moore. Yes, this place is huge. Yes, they have a great pool and gym. But now it's almost $10 to play. What. The. Shizzle? $10 for me to play in the deep end and try to drown myself swimming laps. No, you can't pay less to just swim since you're not using the gym - I tried that line of logic with the staff. It's all or zippy. I begrudgingly paid, swam laps, cursed swimming, swam more laps and then rolled out. Note for those in the area. Lifetime Fitness is opening in September. It's 24hrs. Has both an indoor and outdoor lap pool. And a gym. And a spa. And a daycare. And yoga. And a rock climbing wall. And basketball courts. And a cafe. And towel/locker service. And it costs $79/month. Do the math. Open already! P.S. If you see an Asian guy swimming in the Potomac, don't call the police. Thanks. read more

OMG, I freakin LOVE this place!!! I'm on the hunt to find an indoor pool that I can train in for my upcoming triathlon, and this place has it and much, much more. It's a brand new facility, having just opened in late March / early April of 2007. It is huge, huge, huge, and I had no idea something like this was so close to my house. It has an elevated indoor track, a leisure pool, an Olympic sized lap pool, spa, water slide, rock climbing wall, a beautiful workout area with all the latest equipment, and an aerobics room. Seriously, it's a great facility and I'm hesitant to Yelp it. I drove over to it tonight, and the first thing I noticed was how big the parking lot is. It wasn't too crowded, which is a good thing. When I walked around, I noticed it also was not crowded. Plenty of machines were open for use, and the pools were not crowded. The lockers were spacious and very clean. The pool area is a tightly run ship, with lifeguards everywhere and first aid stations in plain sight. They have daily and 25x passes, as well as an annual pass. It's 8.25 for a non resident to use the facility, and you can't even walk into a local gym and use it for a day at that rate. The hours work out well for me and I still can't believe it has been here all this time! Swim on! read more

We signed our kids up for basketball classes at Claude Moore several months ago. The instructor didn't show and didn't notify the parents for few of the lessons. The front desk staff was unapologetic and didn't seem to care. What really annoyed me was that after the first no show by the teacher the staff didn't take any steps to make sure that the following week the same thing doesn't happen again. Instead, they only said "would you like to be reimbursed for the classes". As a small business owner, I would be furious if one of my employees displayed the same attitude of indifference to something like this. Poor customer service at its best. read more

Claude Moore Park pool has a SERIOUS problem with their emergency response and management staff on site. My daughter was injured at the pool in April. The Manager had the audacity to say to say the drainage problem they have on the pool deck was a builder issue and not theirs. Man up and take ownership that you have a water drainage hazard at your pool that you knew before the pool was opened. Remember the delays on the Grand Opening, I do and from what I have been told it was largely because of drainage. Further to the person who said they were an EMT at the pool, I didn't know that rough paper towels are an acceptable substitute for medical bandages. To make matters worse, they double billed me for our entrance fee which took over a month to get resolved. This place could be a great facility, too bad it is filled with inept people. read more

My friend had a birthday picnic here at 5pm and never having been here, it was a bit confusing at first. None of us knew there were 2 entrances, but we figured it out. We snagged a cute little spot that was a bit of a walk down the path, it would have been nice to get one close the parking lot cuz all of us had many large things to carry (cornhole boards, etc) but that spot was FLOODED with kids...we didn't want them to pick up on new bad words accidentally, so we distanced from them but that's not a complaint by any means. Our birthday girl was told that the pavilion was rented all day...yet they had totally cleared out by the time we arrived and we would have really loved that spot to set up some decorations for her. Either way we had a nice time (definitely had to watch our feet, goose poop was EVERYWHERE). I took down a star because of the bathrooms. I don't expect it to be pristine but I didn't expect to walk into a porta potty at a music festival either...because that's exactly what it smelled like! And I'd smelled this from OUTSIDE of the building!! My friend braved it and came out heaving...and she's not sensitive to smells by any means. Suffice to say I decided to hold it til we got home. I did love the education centers and other things to do. It wasn't just a plain old park by any means, and I really appreciated that. Also, twice people on golf carts came by and asked if they could help us with any trash or anything else, which was totally unexpected and wonderful...we all assumed when they pulled up that they were there to do some policing! Get place. Would definitely recommend. Good for multiple age families. Kiddie pool area is fun but could use a facelift. There are a couple different activities in leisure pool so if you have a range of ages, there is enough to choose from. Have life preservers for you to borrow which is helpful. I wish there were bathrooms or showers attached to the pool area. Bring water shoes to walk from bathrooms to pool. And bring shampoo and soap for after swimming. Also being lotion. The pool can really dry out your skin. read more

Took the kids to Claude moore this past Monday- I loved it when they first opened but visiting about 2 years later the place did not seem as cleaned as it was. the family room- wish they had put the lockers outside of these rooms. While trying to get my kids showered and ready. I had people constantly knocking on the door asking us how much longer we were going to take, bit of annoying when you have a 2 year old and 6 year old that you are trying to shower and get them into dry clothes.. Pool area- my kids love the lazy river, slides, and the open area- Next time we will go when its less crowded Admission price- great price for Loudoun county residence- I paid $9 Great that they had googles($5) that I could purchase for the kids read more

Love, love LOVE this facility. I normally walk/run on the W & OD trail, but when weather is lousy, I need an indoor facility. I don't want a gym membership, because I am outside most of the time. The Claude Moore Rec Center has a 25 visit pass that allows me to pay as I go. As a county resident, and a senior (over 55), it works out to $3.40 per visit. No more looking at the monthly gym bill and thinking "but I only went 2 times this month". It's absolutely PERFECT for me. I love the indoor running track (hate treadmills!). The kiddie pool is great! I take my little grandson to play and we have a blast. The lifeguards are responsive and attentive. read more

We are recent transplants to the area and the Rec Center fills all of our wishes: HUGE pool - not one, but TWO More than adequate exercise area with well taken care of machines GREAT indoor track Locker rooms that are extremely clean Super staff - always with a smile For me the best part is the yoga classes. The teacher, Susan, is fantastic. It's not a strenuous class (if you like power yoga - not your place), but feel great after every class and I miss it dearly when my schedule doesn't allow. read more

Mustering the political will to construct this facility was a mighty feat of heavy lifting. The architect and builders did a fine job of constructing it. However, the staff needs to show the love and do the work to have this facility be fully available. In specific, the attitude that the 50 meter pool can only be used as a 50 meter pool by organizations that pay hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to get the staff to take the 15 minutes to set the lanes in this fashion is an attitude that does not come from an interest in the physical fitness of the facility's users. If the management wants to learn how to serve the needs for a short course pool by having the lane ropes set for the short course, then converting it to a long course with the ropes set differently, they should visit a facility that manages to perform this task daily. There are many. The closest one is one of the crown jewels of DC Government, the Wilson Aquatic Center. They change their lanes daily; they have hard-working staff. So why three stars, not fewer? Despite the laziness of staff regarding the pool lanes, the availability of a running track, exercise machines, basketball, walking paths and a nice piece of land do make this facility of some use. read more

This place is a dump. Dulles south has so more more to offer. Additionally, Loudoun county is fleecing it's own citizens with higher taxes and then charges ya full price, nearly 50 a month to enter facilities our tax dollars funded. Big ripoff! read more

I have been going to this gym a about a month now. Because I am a non-resident, I end up paying 69 a month or 8.25 drop-in fee, which I feel is steep for what is offered. The positives: the gym is nicely air conditioned, is spacious and well laid out, the front desk is nice and efficient, the pool is great compared to other public pools, and when I go, it is not busy. However, for what I pay for, I feel it's lacking in amenities. For example, there are only two kinds of ellipticals, none the true kind you find in other gyms. One I feel is poorer quality and shimmies when you use it, so I found myself re-injuring my recently broken foot. Therefore, for me, there is only 1 usable elliptical, which is just not enough for someone like me that likes to use a different one on different gym days. There is only 1 stretching mat I can find, so if someone else is using it, I have sit on the floor in another area and worry about being in people's way. They only have 1 set of weights, which are good quality, but to avoid my genius muscles I have to switch brands often to avoid muscle memory, which you cannot do here. The pool is typically not too busy--I can get my own lane when I go, which is around 1-2pm. I would guess it would get busier later on in the day, because sometimes when I go, all the lanes are full, albeit with only one person. The pool is sometimes dirty; one time I was swimming back and forth over a huge bug, wondering how he got in there, and other times I have had to avoid a collision with a hairball. However, I am used to swimming in outdoor pools that have far worse vermin so I can handle it. I am just using this gym until the Reston Lifetime opens up (I know, I know, how can I complain about 69 when I will be paying 140 at that place?), so for that purpose, Claude Moore fits, but I would not want this to be my forever (until I move) gym. My mom, who gets to pay only 5.75, loves this gym more than I do (a function of price and needs). Two points off for the lack of equipment variety and the somewhat steep price for what you get (I know Lifetime Sterling is almost the same price, but offers at least 5 different ellipticals...I am in elliptical heaven when I visit there!). read more

I come all most everyday when the Pool was open at CMRC over the summer. I just now took time to write this yelp review. I got to know one of the lifeguard supervisor / lifeguard real well. He was the one that has the 60's sideburns and colorful shoes. I want to say thanks for being so helpful, being such a great lifeguard and leader, patient with the other lifeguards, and respectful of who you work for ( I am sure you do not like the work envirment). I hope he does not leave CMRC because he makes the pool seem safer when he's lifeguarding or when he's supervising. I see him walking around making sure lifeguards are doing there job and checking up on them. If he leaves, I will probably try to find another faculty that has lifeguard supervisors that do there job and care about what they do. read more
