We adopted an un-trained 4 year old Olde English Bulldogge... a stubborn breed to say the least…read more.. and he liked to hump all new people... (funny but not funny) and was dog reactive to boot!! So we started looking into trainers... Thankfully I came across Upstate Canine Academy. After a very professional consult over the phone, we felt assured that this was the right place to bring our dog. We left him at the Academy for a 3 week board and train. Missed him like crazy. He came home understanding commands, don't get me wrong, it wasn't night and day, there was still a LOT of work to be done, but the work was really for us to continue the behavior instilled by the Academy trainers. We were given clear tools to work with him when they handed over the reigns. The incredible part about this facility is that they offer support for the lifetime of the dog after the board and train. (That is how assured they are of their program). Our dog has improved a lot since his initial training, and it is nice to walk him on a leash without his going ballistic when we pass by another dog... and a relief that he no longer humps our human guests when they visit our home! The staff at Upstate Academy are great. They are all dog lovers with an exceptional understanding of dog behavior. The place is clean, and you can be assured that your dog will be safe and happy while he is in training. This is a worthwhile investment.

We miss Amber as well and are happy to hear that her vet doesn't have any concerns. That being said, daycare can be extremely active, and messy as well during play (when pools are out, mud, etc), and we would never want Amber to get further hurt or sick in a vulnerable state. Due to her extreme and sudden onset of medical issues, we feel as a team that we can no longer provide the level of specific care Amber needs at this time. As much as we would love to continue seeing her, we feel that it would not be the best decision for her medically. I appreciate your understanding, I apologize for the inconvenience, and wish you all the best. WTF??? Is upper management now veterinarians too? Who are you to override a veterinary clearance? We thought that is why you have EVERYONE sign a waiver which releases you from liability. What we see here is ageism plain & simple - you do not want to attend to a senior dog who can walk, run & play because you have no staff and cannot be bothered oh, by the way, this is after we, as loyal clients did not sue you after our dog was severely attacked at daycare by a bully dog who had only just joined. Yes, we are loyal clients, we came back, we recommended you to others, you used our dog as a test dog for meets & greets with potential new clients! We have never been in arrears for payment, oh wait, we actually paid in advance! This is NOT how you treat clients! During the consultation(via zoom) her connection was absolutely horrendous. Most of the call I couldn't understand her or there was a significant lag/glitch. During the call I started to take notes but she told me that wouldn't be necessary as she would send a full plan of her recommendation on how to treat the situation with product recommendations and a week by week plan with instructions on how to move forward. She also said she would be readily available throughout the process if I had questions or follow ups. So I waited a week giving her the benefit of the doubt. I then reached out multiple times to follow up on the material/plan and was absolutely ghosted by this business. It's now been six months and I received nothing. This business is an ABSOLUTE SCAM. My husband and I dropped off our 11 month old Cane Corso mix Chase at Certified K9 on October 15…read morefor a 4 week board and train program. We informed them at drop off that Chase has hip dysplasia and the orthopedic surgeon that is monitoring his condition wanted him to have a specific amount of exercise each day to improve his muscle tone to hopefully prevent the need for a total hip replacement. They informed us that he would be getting "plenty of exercise" during his training sessions. They let us know after a couple days that he was not eating well but that it was normal for a dog to eat less when they are stressed because of being away from home. At the end of the first week they informed us that he had lost about 5 pounds and asked us to bring some alternative foods to encourage him to eat (which we did) and they said it worked well and he was eating better. They called us on October 30 (2 weeks in) around 11 AM and said that he had diarrhea with blood in it through the night and they thought it would be best if we came to pick Chase up. We were at Cornell with our other dog at the time and wouldn't be able to be in Pulaski to pick Chase up until about 3 PM. They did several training sessions with Chase that day, including taking him to Tractor Supply for a training session, knowing that he was sick enough to call us to come pick him up 2 weeks early. When we arrived in Pulaski, we first learned how to use the E collar then the trainer brought Chase in the room. When we commented to the trainer that Chase looked thin, he said that their records showed that Chase had lost 6 pounds overall. We didn't really have time to look him over very well because we were practicing what Chase had learned in his time there. When it was time to go, the trainer remarked that "Chase's scrotum was a bit red and that was normal from sitting on the concrete floor". We brought Chase home and he still had diarrhea so we walked around the yard for a bit. At this time, we got a better look at him. We realized that he was extremely skinny; his spine and hip bones were very pronounced. He had lost a lot of muscle tone in his legs and was actually limping with his back left leg, the side with hip dysplasia. While walking around the yard, he tried to squat and urinate several times, but nothing would come out. We gave him a full bowl of water (24 oz) and he drank every drop. We refilled it a couple minutes later, and again he drank the entire bowl. We took him back outside after two huge drinks thinking he would surely need to go and he would squat to urinate and still nothing would come out. He tried dozens of times and was not able to urinate that entire night. Chase ate dinner that night and breakfast and lunch the next day before his vet appointment. The next morning Chase was drinking normally at this point (not guzzling an entire bowl at a time) but was only peeing a tiny bit. We collected a urine sample because we thought maybe he had a UTI and a fecal sample to rule out an intestinal parasite. At his vet appointment we learned that Chase had actually lost 9 pounds in the two weeks that he had been away. Our vet was not familiar with a dog's scrotum being chaffed by a hard floor and said that Chase's scrotum looked like it was scaled from urine or feces being left on the skin. The vet also noticed that the webbing between Chase's toes was red which the vet also attributed to scald. Chase was in such bad shape that the vet wanted to do bloodwork to check for Addison's disease. Thankfully, that test came back negative as did the urine and fecal tests. The vet gave us some cream to put on the scrotum. Chase has been home for 12 days now and has put 7.5 pounds back on and his energy level is back to normal. His paws have healed and the limp is gone but his scrotum is still healing.

If you care even slightly about your pets, stay far away! When I took my puppy in for a Lyme booster, they mistakenly attempted to administer a distemper vaccine, despite my explicit instructions that only the Lyme booster was needed. This should have been my first red flag to avoid this clinic entirely. The situation worsened when I brought my 9 1/2-year-old Newfoundland, who has had double knee surgery, hip dysplasia, and severe tendon laxity, to the clinic. Instead of assigning her to an experienced vet familiar with complex cases, the front office staff placed her with their newest veterinarian, Dr. Coscomb. While Dr. Coscomb was polite, she seemed unfamiliar with my dog's intricate condition and performed a superficial examination. The real issue lay with the disorganized and indifferent front office staff, including Maggie, Becky, and Ashley. The reception area was chaotic, and their outdated practice of not using computers for prescriptions only added to the inefficiency. I was unable to get any pain medication for my dog at the clinic, and Chewy ended up being far more helpful than this dismal office. In June, when my dog's condition worsened, I called the clinic in tears, hoping to adjust her medications for comfort. The office staff promised a callback that never came. Despite multiple follow-ups, they claimed to have contacted me, but I had no record of missed calls or messages. I had to drive three hours to pick up a prescription, only to find it incomplete because the vet failed to include the DEA number. This forced me to make another three-hour trip for a new prescription, highlighting their incompetence. Lauren Felix, the HR Manager, was shockingly rude and uncooperative. She exhibited classic narcissistic behavior, deflecting responsibility and gaslighting me, showing more concern for her own ego than for addressing my dog's suffering. They blamed me for choosing a distant vet based on false ratings, which only added to their egregious lack of empathy. The clinic's incessant excuse-making is nauseating. They tried to shift the blame onto me for the supposed mistake of choosing them. Their conduct has been nothing short of a nightmare, characterized by lies, hostility, and a blatant disregard for animal welfare. They even had the audacity to send a certified letter terminating our vet-client relationship, accusing me of poor communication, despite their own failings--ironically hilarious, given that I had already made it clear that their establishment was a complete disaster and I would never tolerate their incompetence again. This clinic should have its license revoked for its appalling practices. If you value your pet's health, mental well-being, and money, avoid this clinic like the plague. Report their blatant lies and poor practices to the New York State Veterinary Medical Society and other regulatory agencies. Thank your stars if you haven't yet had the misfortune of dealing with this abysmal establishment. Updated 7/15/2024: I spoke with Lauren Felix, their HR Manager, who refused to help in any way.
