I can't speak for the treatment of animals but I can speak for the way they treat people. I called for an emergency visit for my beloved pet and not only were they going to charge me $200 to hold my appointment but I was abruptly hung up on because I had a past due bill I had no clue existed. I was willing to pay said bill and pay whatever needed to be paid to have my pet treated but no, I was hung up on. they must not care about animals very much if they're willing to let a pet suffer and possibly die over a bill from over 20 years ago. again I had no clue it was owed and I was fully willing and ready to pay it in full before they treated my pet. If awarding negative stars were possible, Countryside Veterinary Clinic would be drowning in them. This establishment, with its shockingly inept team, provided the most appalling experience I've ever endured. If you care even slightly about your pets, stay far away! When I took my puppy in for a Lyme booster, they mistakenly attempted to administer a distemper vaccine, despite my explicit instructions that only the Lyme booster was needed. This should have been my first red flag to avoid this clinic entirely. The situation worsened when I brought my 9 1/2-year-old Newfoundland, who has had double knee surgery, hip dysplasia, and severe tendon laxity, to the clinic. Instead of assigning her to an experienced vet familiar with complex cases, the front office staff placed her with their newest veterinarian, Dr. Coscomb. While Dr. Coscomb was polite, she seemed unfamiliar with my dog's intricate condition and performed a superficial examination. The real issue lay with the disorganized and indifferent front office staff, including Maggie, Becky, and Ashley. The reception area was chaotic, and their outdated practice of not using computers for prescriptions only added to the inefficiency. I was unable to get any pain medication for my dog at the clinic, and Chewy ended up being far more helpful than this dismal office. In June, when my dog's condition worsened, I called the clinic in tears, hoping to adjust her medications for comfort. The office staff promised a callback that never came. Despite multiple follow-ups, they claimed to have contacted me, but I had no record of missed calls or messages. I had to drive three hours to pick up a prescription, only to find it incomplete because the vet failed to include the DEA number. This forced me to make another three-hour trip for a new prescription, highlighting their incompetence. Lauren Felix, the HR Manager, was shockingly rude and uncooperative. She exhibited classic narcissistic behavior, deflecting responsibility and gaslighting me, showing more concern for her own ego than for addressing my dog's suffering. They blamed me for choosing a distant vet based on false ratings, which only added to their egregious lack of empathy. The clinic's incessant excuse-making is nauseating. They tried to shift the blame onto me for the supposed mistake of choosing them. Their conduct has been nothing short of a nightmare, characterized by lies, hostility, and a blatant disregard for animal welfare. They even had the audacity to send a certified letter terminating our vet-client relationship, accusing me of poor communication, despite their own failings--ironically hilarious, given that I had already made it clear that their establishment was a complete disaster and I would never tolerate their incompetence again. This clinic should have its license revoked for its appalling practices. If you value your pet's health, mental well-being, and money, avoid this clinic like the plague. Report their blatant lies and poor practices to the New York State Veterinary Medical Society and other regulatory agencies. Thank your stars if you haven't yet had the misfortune of dealing with this abysmal establishment. Updated 7/15/2024: I spoke with Lauren Felix, their HR Manager, who refused to help in any way. She was shockingly rude and condescending, even more unhelpful than the rest of the staff. Dr. Pauly and his office staff got us through an incredibly difficult time with our Peggy Sue, our black Labrador. He was so kind, spent so much time with us explaining her torn Achilles. Noticed that Gemma's eye was swollen shut last night and had to wait until the morning to find somewhere who would see her ASAP. Her primary vet would be closed for another three hours so we called Countryside who were open. Arrived around 8am and didn't wait more than 5 minutes before Dr. Pauly brought us in even though we did not have an appointment. He was extremely friendly, one of the friendliest vets we have ever met, and clearly knowledgeable on what was going on with her. Dr. Pauly made Gemma feel at ease, not rushing the examination and really took his time to explain her diagnosis to us as well as preventatives, how to administer her eyedrops, and what may have caused it. We felt overwhelmingly comfortable with him in the room and it was abundantly clear that he takes great care in what he does. Before our visit concluded, he even answered a few questions we had relating to our cats and their food. Will definitely keep Lowville Countryside as our plan B in case we need immediate attention again. Thank you for treating our baby and making her feel better! read more

I was recommended to Dr. Allen by a Physician in my town when I disclosed my dog tore her ACL. He gave rave reviews and stated it's been five years since his lab was operated on, and still in good form. I was apprehensive as I have seen many unsuccessful surgeries in the past having owned a pet-sitting business. The surgery Dr. Allen performs is non-traditional, using a tendon to repair the injury, requiring less healing time. My pitbull runs like a buffalo, and I was unsure, but after speaking to Dr. Allen, I decided to drive the 5 hours to the Lowville Vet. Two years later, my dog enjoys hikes, fetching, and returning to her usual self. The scar is minimal, and she looks healthier and in better condition than my friend's pups, who went the traditional, more expensive, and less holistic route. Dr. Allen and his team are responsive and caring. I would gladly rate 20 stars. They also made sure my local pharmacy received any medication needed. I called them many times with questions and concerns, and either Dr. Allen or his employees called promptly and always answered me with professionalism and respect. read more

I am just astounded that anyone would have anything but great things to say about this clinic and Otter Lake Vet (another location)! Dr. Allen did an ACL surgery on my very large Rottie and she was like a new dog; she LOVES Dr. Allen. I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Allen and Dr. Colleen for over 20 years and can't say enough good things about them and all the girls that work at both locations. My father-in-law, who is from Long Island, needed his dog's ACL and another part of both legs operated on. He had a quote from the Island for over $12,000 for just ONE leg. Dr. Allen operated on her, and the cost was a quarter of what it would have cost one leg to do both legs. She too is a new dog. My father-in-law will not take his dog to anyone but Dr. Allen. He drives 7 hours to bring his dog to the vet now. He is even squeezing us in the morning before he leaves for vacation to check one of the dog's leg. Can't go wrong here, they love the pets and the people. read more

I went to the Otter Lake office and I cannot say enough about the service. I have an asthmatic cat and he had an attack. The office saw me the same day, called to check on Batman the next day and the day after that AND the day after that, and were so kind and helpful. I brought my Maggie in for a check up. She tested positive for lyme disease. Because you can't go in i wasn't able to speak to vet but the tech kept running out like it was an emergency and she made me feel like it was. She said Maggie HAD to have the lyme vaccine and take the antibiotic for 30 days. MAGGIE was acting perfectly healthy running and showing no symptoms of lyme or anything else. After doing some research I questioned them on their protocol and asked what color the test result was..was it dark or light ? The tech heard me wrong and accused me of making a racial remark . Maggie got very sick from either the antibiotic or the vaccine. She has still has a rash m she is still sore where the shot was given and she itches all the time. She threw up for days was lethargic and wouldn't eat . It took weeks for her to seemingly get better she still has red rash . I've since read that antibiotic should not be given unless they are symptomatic and the vaccine has many dangerous side EFFECTS I NEVER GAVE INFORMED CONSENT. On top of all this because they said I made a racial remark they fired me from practice and my dog still isn't well. Incredibly helpful! I used their emergency weekend services for my cat when he went into a seizure this morning! They made me an immediate appointment and helped me with finding their location. They called to make sure I didn't get lost and make sure they had all of the info. This was an incredibly stressful situation, I didn't think my cat was going to make it. They were able to help him and preform all necessary testing. Very very very well priced for emergency services... $65 for an emergency visit which is amazing! We are so happy with our service and the care they provided that we are switching all of our pets to Countryside. The receptionist had no idea what she was doing. She told me my dog needed an appointment with the vet but that I couldn't get an appointment for 10 weeks. I asked her to make that appointment for me but in the meantime, could I get an appointment with a vet tech for a routine DHPP vaccine. She put me on hold for a very long time. Since I had gotten poor care here prior to this I made an appointment with another vet office, intending to move all of my pets to a different vet. Dr. Pauly, one of the clinic owners, came on the phone and was EXTREMELY RUDE to me. I attempted to explain what had occurred in the conversation with the untrained receptionist but he continued to be very rude and insulting. I do not recommend anyone ever go to this vet. read more

I cannot even begin to express how I felt at this office! My 13 year old dog had acl surgery here 2 weeks ago. The ladies loved on my pup like he was their own. They reassured me that he was doing well after surgery and updated me constantly. Dr. Allen spoke to me on the phone several times explaining surgical procedures and even spent time helping me find a hotel since I was driving 4.5 hours from home. This was well worth the travel from New Jersey! You all did such a wonderful job with Bruno and I can't thank you enough. I've been looking for a trustworthy veterinary practice to take my best friend, after moving to the area. This was my first visit to this clinic, and it will be my last. I brought my dog in with a skin rash he's had a couple of time before. When I arrived the place was swarming with other pets, and after some wait I was rushed in by the doctor. She was brusque, cold and in my view uncaring; I felt like my dog was just any animal and I was the "wallet," as she tried to push a variety of shampoos and supplements on me, before leaving me in the room for quite some time. No one ever asked about his medical history (they were supposed to get his records from his previous vet) so I could get him updated on shots and things if necessary. Even after leaving behind the extra stuff, I received the most expensive vet bill ever, nearly $170. In short, I REALLY felt hosed. Never again ... caveat emptor. read more

She came out lame in rear right rear leg, after taking her to A Yonkers emergency animal Clinic won't mention the name... they looked at my dog for exactly the walk to the examination room, the doctors assistant diagnosed her with a torn ACL and other things they gave me Two choices, 2 different operations One cost ( $3500 to $5000) ( $5000 to $6000 TPL Procedure) in a matter of ten minutes lol... they offered me the option of a pet credit card lol to pay! then the Doctor came out and basically said the same thing! the funny thing is they offered 2 operations, but only one was recommended, why bother offering 2...I told them that was Very expensive and my dog was fine up until grooming! long story short... Took her up to Lowville NY, the Doctor the nurses where Awesome turns out it wasn't torn! the Doctor fixed her up cost me $!600! Needless to say the Yonkers Clinic reminded me of a used car salesman and I walked away thinking something was up!
