I have boarded my boy here, for several years. In the last year, their quality of service has gone down and their price has gone up. The last visit, they screwed up the dates for his stay, even though confirmed in writing and on phone 1 month prior. But worst of all is they severely over medicated my boy. He has separation anxiety. His normal dose is 1 pill in morning and 1 at night, if needed. They admitted they were giving him between 6-8 pills, A DAY. It took 24 hours for him to even show any sign of life. I waited 2 days before writing this because I was so angry. But in the end, I feel I need to warn people to reconsider before trusting their baby's care with these folks. read more

I brought my dog Bare to countryside veterinary clinic recently, hoping to get compassionate care for a large, painful tumor on his leg that had ruptured and was actively bleeding and leaking. He is not just a pet, he's my fiancé's disability service dog, helping him get dressed and providing daily support, as well as being a major emotional anchor for both of us. The vet told us the lump was cancerous but did not perform any tests to confirm it--no biopsy, no aspirate, no imaging. Despite the tumor being ulcerated and clearly infected, and despite our direct request to have the wound cleaned or at least addressed, the vet refused. We were told touching it might "activate the cancer," and that we should consider euthanasia instead of surgery due to Bare's age and weight. We were not given any real options, just antibiotics and a pain medication, and were left to care for an open, oozing mass on our own at home. I understand veterinary clinics have limitations and protocols, band she was very nice but I expected better compassion and effort to at least clean his wound and ease his suffering. The recommendation to give up--without exploring treatment, wound care, or even proper diagnostics felt dismissive, especially for a dog who has served his human faithfully for years. We're now seeking help through nonprofits and a second opinion. I hope in the future this vet will consider how critical it is to listen to families, offer dignified care, and not assume euthanasia is the only compassionate path forward. Animals like Bare, and families like ours, deserve better. read more

unfortunately I choose this vet clinic to make an appointment to get my cat his yearly shots, how ever when going to pick him up I was told that he was neutered by Dr. Katrina Amberg without ever asking me his ONLY owner as documented in his file with my number that they called the day prior to remind me of the appointment, only to be told that they didn't have my number when I picked him up to ask if I wanted him nentered and that they weren't specifically told not to have him neutered. However I didn't think it was necessary to tell them not to neuter my cat when his appointment is only for shots so hopefully they don't put your animal under an unnecessary surgery without your knowledge, oh and then they'll try and charge you an extra $205 for a procedure that wasn't wanted, neccesary, and had no consent from the owner read more

I am very happy with the care we received. I am a vet assistant and I usually handle my own pets for their exams, blood draws etc. Being that I'm not working right now and covid, I could not be present for my senior cat's wellness visit. I was nervous for this reason. When Aubrey came out to take her assessment, my fears faded. She obviously knew what she was talking about and it made me feel better that my old man was in good hands. The vet recommended what my cat needed and that I appreciate. Dr. Howard went over his health and bloodwork with me over the phone. I really am happy with this clinic and we will be back. I am writing this because he retired from the Army & we moved to another state. We are still getting reminders from Countryside about our pets' birthdays, need for updates, etc. We have spent $$$ at a vet in TX & have not gotten NEAR the service we had w them in NY. Countryside NEVER let us run out of heartworm medicine because they wanted more money. I was able to get an IV in Lowville late at night to keep my toy dog from dying of dehydration. Here I would have to travel to an emergency clinic. Countryside is one of the few things I miss from living up there. read more

We've been using Countryside for 2 years for our pets and wouldn't go anywhere else. When we first moved here, we had a tragic accident with one out of cats, and had to utilize their 24hr emergency office in lowville. The staff was very caring and supportive throughout the process. Since then, we've been huge fans of Dr Fuller and Dr Jen and see them regularly for our cats and dogs. Our dogs Benny and Cora have boarded at Countryside many times while we are out of town, and have always had a pleasant experience -- in fact, our pibble Benny is super excited when we go to the office, he loves it there! Lastly, we've fostered many bottle baby kittens through Countryside and they always provide the best care and support, it's truly a team effort! Would highly recommend them! read more

As a retired veterinary technician of 10 years, having worked in an ER/Critical Care teaching hospital, I can definitely say that I am hard to impress in the veterinary world. I left my job to marry my husband and move to Fort Drum, and I knew that finding a veterinary facility for my then 12 year-old dog (Sabrina) would be a potential challenge since the area does not have many animal clinics and I wanted to find a place that would be able to get Sabrina in quickly if needed, plus have modern technology and equipment available, along with emergency and boarding services. I stumbled upon Countryside while doing my search for a vet, and can now say that the doctors at Countryside made things much easier on me as I transitioned out of control and put my trust in doctors I did not particularly know with the care of Sabrina. Upon bloodwork prior to a dental cleaning, it was discovered Sabrina's liver values were a little elevated. Over the span of the last 3 years we have monitored her values and treated emerging arthritis, and to this day she is still playing and begging and lounging as she always has, and I attribute that to the care of Dr. Kenyon and the other doctors working within the clinics. I had to use their emergency service once, and my husband and I boarded our pets with them any time it was needed. The staff is mostly professional and remember their clients and pets, even without the pet being present. The pets were always happy and bouncy after a boarding session at the clinic and they dealt with our rather not-so-friendly cat without complaint or bloodshed- a total plus. Another bonus is the clinic is newer and never has that odor associated with small animal clinics- thank goodness! Now that we have moved out of the state I am hoping I find another clinic I feel as comfortable with as Countryside. read more

We've been bringing pets here for years because the vets are awesome but I will be finding a new vet due to the rudeness and carelessness of the front desk staff. While scheduling an appointment over the phone the staff member was laughing and talking with someone else during our call and failed to record my appointment, which I took time off of work to go to. The "best" they could do was reschedule my appointment and when I told the receptionist that I was going to switch vets she said "OK" and hung up. If that's what I get after years of loyalty then I'll be taking my loyalty elsewhere. read more

I live on a farm with over 50 sheep, so as you can tell we need a good vet. This is where we use for our vet services. Personally we use Dr. Nightingale she is really good! I am hoping to be a veterinarian when I grow up and Dr.Nightingale is definitely an influence in my dream career! NEVER AGAIN The rating should be 0 based on my experience with 2 separate visits. I took my Kobe to COUNTRY SIDE VET CLINIC CARTHAGE. yesterday to get a booster , I had an appt last month or so I thought... I called and made an appointment just before saying goodbye I said.. "If you have a cancellation prior to my appt I would take it" well the incompentent receptionsist canceled my appointment and put me on a cancellation list of course me not knowing my appt was canceled took Kobe to the office a little early, on Feb 28 only to find out I did not have an appt Just on the cancellation list. ugh..Well I thought misunderstanding... ok we will deal. She said we will try to get you in.... I waited a half hour and they agreed to see Kobe but could not get him in a room god knows why not I was the only one there.. Anyway they open this swinging door and ask that I let the associate take Kobe from there, down this dark hallway. He did not want to go. They go get a plastic piece of rope and loop it around his neck. He was reluctant did not want to go down this dark hallway without me.. God knows why I could not go with him .. anyway I let it go due to the circumstances I knew I needed this appt. So one month later I return with an appt .. take him in and weigh him.. they called his name and I got up thinking they were taking him into an exam room.. Nope she asked that I bring him to this swinging door, Kobe has a harness and a collar on.. and a leash. The associate is trying to pull him- dragging him the collar starts to come over his head .. neck and head the same size... Well she says I will go get a noose and he will not pull out of that ..now this is nothing more than a plastic rope knotted with the rope pulled through.. so if you pull it just gets tighter.. My dog weighs almost 90 lbs.. mind you he is not having any part of going down this hallway, he is scared to death.. so she puts the plastic rope around his neck and tightens it.. trying to drag him down the hallway.. he is not having any part of it.. backing up and laying down. this rope is as tight as it could be and she is not stopping pulling him.. of course he is not moving..At this point he is gasping for air and his face is beet red. I said this is not going to work. A moment later a tech came out and said we will get him in a room, We get him in the exam room which Kobe just walked right in. I removed her plastic rope that was not necessary to begin with since he had a harness and collar. which I was able to pick him up by the harness, with no restriction on his throat now by this time I am so mad.. that he had to go through this for a booster shot, come on just ridiculous. And I am betting the first appointment they dragged him down that hall way because they asked me to go out in the waiting room, so I did not seeing how they got him to the end of the hall. Well it gets even better I take Kobe home and he is making this strange noise coming from his throat. Not a cough just like maybe choking on something but not eating anything.. Damage to his throat who knows. Why was I not able to accompany him to get the shot.. in the first place.. there was no one there.. So the exam rooms were empty. second if there was a room available.. why were we not taken there to begin with. I have never taken my dog to a Vet where I did not accompany him.. well this is what I think if he was given his shots at all the first time. which now I wonder. Maybe not taking him to a room saves someone from having to clean it which again we were the only ones there so with all the staff there. Would not have been a big deal since most were doing nothing anyway. I call the next day to talk to a Vet. There is not one available. So I said I will call back. I will never take my dog to THAT location again.. and If I do not get to talk to someone I will make sure everyone I know reads this.. I am done.. Oh and by the way the associate that TRIED to handle Kobe thought it was very funny. She deff needs more training to handle animals. Her customer service skills are horrible. Just started going to Dr. Jen at Countryside and she and her staff are amazing. Our dog needed a cardiologist apt and when the soonest one at Cornell wasn't until Nov, Dr. Jen called and had her seen within 2 weeks. Our dog just underwent surgery at Countryside and was so well taken care of. I feel like they are so loving and never feel pushed into anything. I've always been met with such kindness and hospitality from the whole staff!! Highly recommend this practice! read more

Last year we were pleased to hear that Countryside would see us on such short notice as we came home to our husky's paw bleeding but could not find it's origin. After arriving, we had to convince the vet techs to let us go back with him as he was scared and needed our comfort. The elderly vet tech attempted to muzzle him with another vet tech who looked stoned off her ass, and rather than succeeding she jumped back, stood in the doorway and had my fiancé lift his paw. She quickly told us it was a growth or tumor of some kind and left. Naturally we had an abundance of questions and concerns regarding this diagnosis and instead of answering them she told us we would have to make another appointment. Ok, so then what was the point of coming today just to be told to come back again? Luckily we weren't charged for the "exam"; rightfully so since it was my fiancé and I doing everything while she avoided my dog like the plague. Instead of waiting for our follow-up appointment we discovered North Country Animal Center where they tentatively treated him and diagnosed his "growth/tumor" for a simple infected cut. How could Countryside mess that one up THAT bad? No pet owners want to hear about their pets having a tumor much less worry for days on end when it was a total misdiagnosis. It sucks because we live in Carthage and it would be so much more convenient to drive 5 minutes versus an hour but it is so worth it in the long run when you are dealing with staff who are knowledgeable, skilled, and caring. read more

Normally I'm not one to complain but, if I could give this vet no stars I would. HOWEVER, the actual vet, dr. Jen, is super super super UNPROFESSIONAL. All because I wanted to not sedate my 14 week old Siberian Husky for a 5-10 minute bandage change every week for 4 weeks. (Has a hairline fracture, with splint and the bandage around had to be changed which is literally Co-band.) She loves to accuse the patients of purposely doing things. Such as feeding your dog so they won't get sedated. Also us not resting his leg because another dog was over. Seriously?! Sorry, I'm not gonna let my 14 week old puppy go over 8 hours without feeding him. And another dog being over is messing with his leg yeah right. Before all this happened her tech said she would "try her best" to not sedate him. HONESTLY she didn't even try because literally 20 seconds later with the process of taking our puppy back she said he need to be sedated. After she said she's not playing our games because we don't want to sedate our puppy and I said she was being disrespectful because of her yelling and accusing us. I simply asked if they need to sedate our puppy then I want the records so I can take him to another vet where they can do the job right without sedation. She then slammed the door in mine and my husbands face and was saying stuff outside of the door about us. I get that my puppy bites but he is teething, and I would have no problem what so ever holding him and getting him to calm down. IF YOU WANT a vet that is going to practice "GOOD medicine" as they claim, please go to this one and expect your pet to be sedated :). However the FRONT desk staff was very nice and took their time to accommodate on what days you needed to be seen since my husband is in the military. read more

Rude! Expensive! Poor pet care! Take your money somewhere else! I saw for myself what the other comments meant when they said the staff here was rude! After using this kennel a couple of times, I came in to pick up my 2 dogs from a 3-wk boarding that cost over $1000 (yes, that's what I said)! While I waited for the bill and my dogs, the main clerk at the desk (heavyset, older) barely looked up or spoke to me the entire time I was there, which was my first clue that I did not need to spend my $$$ here any more. Expensive/ Poor pet care: The bill was littered with add-ons for things like meds (which I cannot confirm were given), a vet visit while they boarded (which they used to try and sell me a $2000 elective surgery), a deluxe grooming for both dogs (but I found the dew claws had not been cut at all and other nails were left long and uneven with the rest - who knows if the anal glands were even done). Poor pet care(!!!): It was barely the middle of the day when I picked them up, but both of my dogs were unusually sluggish and unmotivated. One had darkened/ reddened eyes with excessive mucous that no one had mentioned. Both of them had 100% diarrhea, even though I had been told over the phone in my periodic checks that neither of them had diarrhea after changing to the bland diet. More Rudeness: When I was out in the parking lot loading my dogs to go, a small blond clerk came rushing out to tell me that I must, 'stay in the front of the building' when I come to the clinic. (???) When I had arrived, I had checked the back to see if my dogs were out in the dog runs. The runs are outside next to the customer parking lot and dumpster and I had certainly been in this area at other pick-up and drop-off times. I had even been oriented to this area by the staff when I first started bringing my dogs there. All of the sudden, after I have debited over $1000 to this business, I must not 'look' in the back area?? I was now suspicious and annoyed. I began to tell the blond clerk, whom I had not seen before, that 'I had been by the dumpster...' , but as though she were talking about a robbery scene, she said excitedly, "The lady told me she saw you!", and something like, "It's for our insurance". This was of course offensive, since it loosely implied that I had said something false and that I was somehow an insurance risk and a threat to other clients. Though I let it go at the moment and left, I couldn't help suspecting that this had been a racially motivated comment and I was then disgusted with the ignorance and unprofessionalism of the entire place. This company has lost my business. Every chance I get, I tell every fellow Soldier and civilian I know, this place is a let down! Take your money somewhere else!! read more

I did not have a pleasant experience with this vet office. I had to put down my dog and before this was done we made a mold of his paw print. This was the last thing that my dog touched before I had to say goodbye. When I came to pick it up a few days later it was given to me broken. I was not happy at all that it was broken and asked if they would appreciate it if they received this mold broken also. So they said that they would be able to fix it. A few days later I was told it was ready again and when I came to pick it up they gave me a whole new mold that was a mold of the original mold. Meaning that this new mold my dog did not touch. Throughout this whole experience I never received an apology from any of the vets or from the individual who broke the mold. I was told that they would be sending me an apology letter in the mail but I never received this letter and it has been over a month. I felt like this was very unprofessional and the clinic did not have the decency to follow up on there mistake. I would not recommend anyone to this vets office and will be taking my business elsewhere read more
