Jack is used to hiking back home in California so he loved the open space and trails within the forest. Jack also liked the small section of lake that the dogs can swim at, however the only downside is that there is no division for small and large dogs. I noticed the large dogs would gather around the smaller ones a lot causing some unwanted behavior and crowding. If the lake was sectioned into 2 areas it would be perfect. Overall a good experience and place to go in low traffic days if you have a small dog like me.

Even just to be approached and sniffed at would acknowledge that I have a spirit that our fur babies sense. This park is great. Back in VA where I live, we have plenty of state parks and doggie parks but not leash off doggie parks that span vast areas where dogs can run around and mingle and oh swim in the lake. There are benches along the pathway for you to sit and watch your dogs. The park has public restrooms right by the entrance/exit gates. The day that I walked the long paved pathway to get to the lake it started raining so I had to turn around and didn't get to see the lake. I will go back next time am in town. Leawoof is both Leo (my dog) and mine's favorite dog park in Johnson County! There's two does both…read morefenced in, one for small dogs and one for all dogs. The all dog side is much bigger than the small dog side. Leo enjoys going to both sides! The all dog side has an obstacle course although some of the equipment is broken. There are dog fountains on both sides. Dog owners at Leawoof seem to me more friendly than other dog parks in Johnson County. I've met some very kind people here and of course some paw-dorable dogs! Sometimes the park is closed when it rains a lot, I've gone a couple times and the gate has been locked. If you have a furry best friend, I definitely recommend taking him or her to Leawoof!

Sure there are some uneven spots, some are currently marked by orange cones. They have a few EV stations at the entrance that I saw (there may be more elsewhere in the park, but I didn't particularly seek them out). If you're trekking with littles, there is a small spot that you'll cross the entrance to the park if you're doing the full loop as All Trails has it, but it's doable. It's about 1.5 miles around. They have an off leash dog run/walk. It's near two (maybe more) residential areas so I bet this park gets busy when the weather is good--it seemed so when I went (2/28/2023). I'd go again. It's definitely an easy stroll; no hills and with the exception of crossing the street for the loop, no real challenges.

There's better ones around like Bar-K (small cost), Leawoof Dog Park, Shawnee Mission Dog Park, and others north of the river. The views of the city and location are great. Plus dogs, dogs are pretty great in general. The rest, not so much. It's muddy in the spring, sun-baked in the summer and doesn't have any of the expected perks of most area dog parks. My dog gets along well with most, but I've heard a lot of stories about some less-than-thoughtful owners bringing their dogs here that don't get along well with others. Bold strategy, Cotton, but a poor one. There are ways to socialize dogs slowly, and just going for it by letting them run free with a bunch of other dogs ain't it.

This dog park is HUGE! There is a fenced in area to the left of the parking lot where you can let…read moreyour dogs run off leash, if you're unsure how they'll do in the open. Or you can venture out on the miles of trails to the right of the parking lot (off leash, as well). The trails in the open areas are pretty wide (think car width) & easy to navigate and follow. One of the trails even has some freshly laid crushed gravel. The trails through the woods are narrow but well packed down. However, If you have any mobility issues, you might stick to the open area trails as you're likely to encounter fallen logs or have to scale up a creekside when on the trails through the woods. Close to the parking lot, there are some obstacles set up so your dog would like ride on the seesaw or climb the A-frame. I've been at multiple times of day. The middle of the day seems to be a little less populated. It does get pretty busy towards late afternoon/early evening as people are getting off work. Parking can be sparse at that time. If so, people tend to park off the side of the road & walk over. Be sure to slow down & pay extra attention as you are coming or going as dogs sometimes venture into the parking lot or road. Especially in the parking lot between the fenced area & open area.
