VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION: As the website and Yelp info is not updated I will do so here (-: K9 Comrades has a new location: 175 South Hill Drive in Brisbane. Park on the street and there is a "fence" with a chain link, walk down the path until you see a gated area with a field. That is where training is held. Puppy/beginner class: Mondays and Thursdays at 6pm-7pm, Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30am-10:30am. Intermediate classes from what I understand fall right after the puppy classes (I still take my Akita to puppy/beginner). Not sure about French Ring. I follow the Instagram @k9comrades for class updates, cancelled classes, etc. but this new info is very important as I followed the website instructions on my first day, which was at the wrong location, and then didn't actually make it out to my first class after that until a month later. NOW, onto my experience: I was recommended Larry's K9 Comrades through a friend who owns multiple German Shepherds. I now own a 1 year old Akita, and if you know a little bit about the breed they are stubborn and aggressive by nature. He works super well with humans, adults and children alike, and smaller dogs, but is super unpredictable with dogs of his size or larger. Larry and Antonio (who was the trainer on my first day) are super knowledgeable. If you read the blurb on their website under "About," you will understand why. After my friend recommended this training to me, and after I did my research, I was already very impressed with Larry's background. When I first met Larry, he asked me about my dog as he looked "leaner" than other Akitas he had seen. This is because I own a Japanese Akita and not an American Akita. Larry mentioned he would have to "look up and research the breed" and to me that dedication to learning about my dog's nature was already a huge plus for me. He tailors to every dog's need and learns the best way to work with each dog's personality. I have been to K9 Comrades (every single class) and am super happy with how Koga is turning out. Yes, he has his moods and will not listen and occasionally growl at other dogs (classic Akita), but for the most part I am happy with his progress. I will continue to come to this class for as long as I need to. THANK YOU LARRY AND ANTONIO!! P.S. Larry will DRILL into your brain to cut down on feeding your dog. This is because his classes are treat and praise-based and this will encourage your puppies not to check out as early and be as focused as possible.

    Down.. Stay! (:

Came here based on a recommendation from a fellow GSD owner and friend. It's been a while since my puppy has been in a obedience training course and of course he is starting to get big and needs more training because he isn't listening as well. Glad my friend recommended this place because Larry really knows what he is doing (He has a credible background of training big dogs). Obedience Training happens on Thursday nights, and Saturday and Sunday mornings. Usually obstacle courses are involved and sport training happens right after obedience training (your dog needs to undergo evaluation before he/she begins sport training). I've only been here twice and I will tell you this... my dog listens so much better to me now! Seriously. It's amazing. He sits when told, down when told, still working on stay, but he's getting better. More practice and he might be ready to stay put for a whole 30 minutes!! (: Classes range from an hour to two. It varies in time. Larry is knowledgable and he knows so much about dogs! Seriously I think he is a true dog whisperer. He knew exactly how to correct my GSD and start him off right for training. I highly recommend this place if you have large breed dogs (shepherd family: German, Dutch, Czech, etc). If you don't feel comfortable using a dominant collar or pinch collar though, you may have to look elsewhere because we use those in his obedience training classes. It's 100 dollars a month and on average there is about 12 classes a month! Can't beat that price!

Long over due! Larry was recommended to me by a good friend of mine. I rescued a puppy from a dog meat farm in March 2015. In the beginning my pup was pretty timid and shy. However, he begun to show fear aggression, dominance and degrees of separation anxiety. After all, he was caged with a bunch of other puppies and had to fight for food in his first 4 months of life. Fast forward...I actually started to become afraid of my pup and was at a loss at the behaviors he was showing such as resource guarding and being nippy and darting at others. We started attending Larry's puppy class and even hired him for 1:1 training at my house. We only discontinued the 1:1 because of scheduling conflicts. Overall, Larry didn't only train our pup, but he also trained us on how to be stern and consistent. We started seeing tremendous progress just after a few classes! My pup especially loves the Saturday obstacle class that Larry puts together. Most of the classes tend to focus on obedience and socialization. But he will also switch things up and do a walk every now and then. Above all, his classes are very affordable. For $150 per month, you can choose 4 classes to attend weekly. He will hold classes in SF depending on weather. Larry is very personable, flexible and is super responsive to texts and phone calls. He genuinely cares and is compassionate at what he does. I can't thank Larry enough for his advice and tips for when we run into problems. Thank you Larry!

Play time at the end of training

I can't say enough about how great Larry's training is! The best part is my dog Ella and are having fun and bonding. She has come a long way in a month and a half.

I highly recommend K9 Comrades to anyone and everyone with a dog. Make the time and effort to learn Larry's techniques. The best experience for myself and my son was to learn from Larry exactly what to do and why it is all so effective. We went for 5 consecutive months 4 days a week. I think we missed one class only. We still on a daily basis practice all the training techniques with him. Our dog Max has been absolutely amazing since we did the training with Larry. It takes a lot of time and effort but was the best investment. Spend the time and the money. Listen to Larry. Don't expect results instantly. Learn how to engage your dog and what to do in different circumstances. Be a happier dog owner. It feels great to have other people compliment your dogs good behavior. He is the DogFather!!

We learned how to incorporate tools like the e-collar and prong collar correctly and humanely as part of a balanced training program. I really appreciated the direct, no-nonsense communication style. He gives you the facts and the fixes without sugarcoating, which is exactly what we needed. We now have a dog that we can trust off-leash even in distracting environments. The best testament to the training was seeing our GSD maintain his recall and stay by our side, even when the other dogs he was hanging out with ignored their owners and ran off to cause chaos. If you want real-world results and a trainer who tells it like it is, I highly recommend Mike.

She had difficulty adjusting to being on leash and this otherwise affectionate and sweet pup would turn into a feral demon when she would see another dog while out on a walk. I didn't know how to solve this problem and was referred to Mike for help. We took his 6 week Puppy 1 class followed by his 6 week Puppy 2 class and I am so grateful for his guidance. In the classes, we learned many basic skills - sit, down, stay, come, heel, emergency stops, and combinations of all of these as well as techniques for handling, cradling, and examining her body. Mike gave me the foundation for working with and communicating with Betty and it has made a huge impact. I am more confident in handling Betty and she is more understanding of my direction. Our morning walks now include time dedicated to training and reviewing what we've learned. It's a lot of fun for me, and I wasn't expecting that. Betty also enjoys our morning routine and clearly has fun showing off what a smart girl she is. With appropriate training, her leash reactivity is much better and continuing to improve, but it will probably take a while to break this issue. Mike is a great trainer and I would definitely recommend his classes.

She was quiet and a bit confused in those early days, and we honestly didn't know what "normal" even looked like. We started working with Jared literally the day after we brought her home, and that made all the difference. What stood out right away is that he doesn't just train the dog, he helps you understand your dog's psychology. That shift was huge for us. Instead of guessing or reacting, we started to feel like we actually knew what she needed and how to respond. He guided us through the basics like potty training and getting her to sleep through the night, and once those clicked, life got dramatically easier. More importantly, he gave us a framework we can keep using as new challenges come up. Our puppy still has some separation anxiety and can be a bit needy, but now it feels manageable. We're making steady, incremental progress and feel confident we have the tools to keep going. Jared has also been great with our whole family. He builds trust quickly, explains things clearly, and makes everyone feel comfortable and capable. You never feel judged or overwhelmed. If you're a first-time dog owner, especially with a young puppy, I'd strongly recommend working with him early. It sets the right foundation and saves you a lot of stress down the line.

One thing that stood out to me is how much emphasis he puts on teaching *us* how to communicate with our dogs effectively, which makes the results stick long-term. Now, we're able to host gatherings without worry, and the difference in their behavior is night and day. It's been such a relief to see them more relaxed and balanced. The progress we've made feels huge, and it's all thanks to Jared's thoughtful and practical training style. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for real, lasting change.

Unfortunately, the two did not get along, and we found ourselves overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. After vetting several trainers, we chose Dan Perata because of his thoughtful, structured approach--focused on discipline and communication through commands rather than treats or punitive methods. His philosophy resonated with us: training isn't just about the dog, it's about the owners putting in the work too. This isn't a "drop off your dog and pick them up all trained" program. It's a serious commitment. We spent many weeks working closely with Dan and his incredible team, and while we eventually "graduated," that was just the beginning. We continue to train with our dogs at home and periodically attend refresher group walks to reinforce what we've learned. Additionally, we also use Dan's boarding services when we travel, knowing our dogs are in good hands and staying consistent with their training. We wholeheartedly recommend Dan Perata Training to anyone serious about building a strong, respectful relationship with their dog. But be prepared: this program requires your time, effort, and willingness to grow alongside your dog. If you're not ready for that level of commitment, you may want to rethink dog ownership altogether.
