I brush them myself, but he really needed some extra TLC in that department. About three months ago a good friend of mine recommended K9 Grillz, so I made an appointment. They did let me know that if there were any major dental problems that they would not be able to proceed with the cleaning. I think the charge for the inspection would have been $30.00. Tucker's teeth had no major problems, so they were able to proceed. I was very happy with the end result and the total charge was $170.00 with the recommendation to bring him back in six months. I think Tucker and I can handle that. They work out of a beautiful Mercedes van that they park at various Healthy Spot locations during the month. I chose their monthly visit at Healthy Spot in Pasadena. It is right around the corner from Urth Cafe so you can run over and grab a coffee really quick while your furry family member is getting his or her teeth cleaned. These guys are superstars! I give them an A+. I have a 7 year old Cavapoo and tried this with a retired vet a few years ago and it was a no go. Ollie does not like to go off with people he does not know. I have to carry him in for his allergy shot when he has skin issues. This was my first time taking my dog to get her teeth cleaned and I will definitely be back! They were able to remove all the plaque and tartar off her teeth. I have been wanting to have my dog's teeth cleaned but was always concerned about the risks of anesthesia since she is older, so this gave me the peace of mind. My appointment was at 11:20 and they were right on the dot! The process only took about 20 minutes and I'm so pleased with the results. As a side note, I went to the location at the Healthy Spot in MDR and it has a small-ish parking lot shared with a few establishments so it gets full, but I was able to find parking after a couple minutes. I am honestly blown away by what a good experience this was! My dog is almost 14 and she has never had a real dental exam so I was very nervous. Dr Thomas was very calm and answered all my questions. He explained that they are unable to "force" dogs to cooperate and that if there are bad fractures or more extensive damage then I would have to take her to the vet. I've used them about 4 times, all fine until the last. I had been using the vets connected with (another local pet store chain) to do the anesthesia free cleaning, can't remember their name, and was happy with them as well but the location options for K9 Grillz were a smidge closer to me. This last time, after 10 extractions (!), when they only had a few teeth to clean, my dog came out with his few remaining teeth still brown and stained. I have his teeth cleaned regularly becuz his breed has quick build up, and they always come back breathtakingly white. So this wasn't a matter of my dog having tough stains, it was just obvious they were dialing it in when they cleaned him. And the worst part, is I paid an extra $100 for the privilege. K9's prices were initially the same as the others , if I remember right, at $170. K9 is now $270. When I first got water pic done in 2017 it was around $100. Then with crazy COVID inflation things jumped another $70 - but now it's almost TRIPLE the price at $270, when others have stayed at $170? Why the huge increase? That's called price gouging. I know you run a business. But I guarantee you're not passing on those extra thousands of dollars to your employees, and the family you're providing for isn't eating thousands of extra dollars in bread. You work our of a van with equipment, probably already paid for, so your overhead is close to nil. Why are you nailing your customers by taking advantage of their desire to not hurt their pets with anesthesia? Or taking advantage of the fact that the economy is bad and that it's still a little cheaper to make your own self wealthier (it should be a lot cheaper, not a little- this is not general surgery, you're not drawing labs, you're not keeping them for hours and monitoring them or giving them an IV, you have them for 20 min .....come on) All to come back out with brown, slightly better teeth - on a dog that barely has any anyway. Oh, and I saw a recent review of an exam costing $80. I had the same experience last year and was charged only $30 - again, almost a tripling in price. Did your md skills become that much more precious in a matter of months. Yeah, there's inflation, but this is just gross. Love how thoroughly they conduct their inspections (with 3 levels of teeth dirtiness and decay, if any) and how well they have my dog's teeth are cleaned. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. One note is if they do find a decaying teeth, they will not proceed with the cleaning. You will have to find a vet and put your pet under anesthesia for a professional teeth removal. read more

Dr. Thomas and Robby were friendly, answered all my questions and took very good care of my girl. The whole process took about 25 minutes. This included a brief consult, a quick assessment to examine her teeth and to see if the she would tolerate the procedure (they won't force an animal if they are uncomfortable) then the procedure itself. I read all the negative reviews here and it seems that only people who were turned away for one reason or another actually wrote them. I felt that they only had the best intentions for the animals. I am thankful these guys exist! I specifically sought them out over other places because they have negative reviews from people who are angry that they wouldn't clean their dog's teeth. This is exactly the type of honest business you want taking care of your dog! I made an appointment because I knew they wouldn't clean my dog's teeth if it wouldn't do any good. I am glad they say "no" and refer folks for an anesthesia cleaning if necessary. Luckily, my dog was able to have their teeth cleaned by the folks at K9 Grillz. And I hope to avoid the anesthesia cleaning in the future. I watched youtube videos of these anesthesia cleanings and they seem to do the exact same thing as K9 Grillz but charge a lot more. I feel like anesthesia is always risky, no matter the age of the dog. it looks like the youtube vets also use the same ultrasonic scaler as K9 Grillz. In terms of personality, I don't recall the name of the gentleman who cleaned my dogs teeth but he was super calm and laidback. And seemed incredibly competent. It is the exact type of person you want working with your dog. I brought my dog for a teeth cleaning because during a routine visit, my vet looked at them and asked if they'd ever been cleaned, etc. I didn't tell my vet that my dog had his teeth cleaned here as a test.
