I recently moved my pup Xylo to this clinic because it's super close to home, and a friend had a wonderful ER experience here. He is an anxious little guy when it comes to vet care, but the staff and Dr. C made him feel right at home! They examined him, gave some immunizations, and he was brought out to the lobby with ALL smiles! I've never seen him so happy during a vet visit. LOL. Well from beginning of my 1st interaction coming inside being greeted with one of the best, kindest wholesome caring staffs, they make the establishment feel calm and you know everything is gonna be ok. They were very gentle with my cocoa puff she definitely loved the atmosphere and vibe cause it's rare when she lets anyone touch or let alone hold her! They did their exams the vet said my baby was good just a bit dehydrated but blood work and X-rays looked great. My son takes care of strays on top of the cats and dogs we have indoors. He works graveyard so as grandma I oversee their care. I have cameras everywhere. Well one of the strays shows up with a hole in the middle of his throat. You could see the insides. Called various places with higher ratings for nothing. They wanted money up front to hold an appointment or they had no space. It's your job I'm telling you there's a hole and you say no space. Here they saw him took care of him stayed open late until he came out of the anesthesia and then I picked him up at 10:30 pm!! If this isn't amazing service than I don't know what is!! A few years back, I took my Shar-pei dog who had been attacked by another dog. His neck was torn up and the other dog ripped his nail off from the root. My dog was in pretty bad shape. They came to my car to tend to my dog immediately, when I arrived, and carried him in a gurney. They took him immediately to the back so the Dr could assess the situation. I was crying inconsolably and the front desk receptionists offered me water, tissues and assured me everything would be okay. A few minutes later the Dr came out and told me he would be stitching him up and do everything in his power to save my dog. He assured me he would be fine. I lived down the street at the time so they said it would take a few hours for the procedure. They said I could go home If I wanted to and they would call me when he was ready to be picked up. A few hours went by and the Dr finally called me to share the good news-my dog had an intense surgery but that he would be okay. When I went to pick him up he was still a little out of it from the anesthesia. He was given a soft cone, which I appreciated, as the plastic ones can be very uncomfortable for any animal. I felt so much relief, I actually wanted to give the Dr a giant hug for saving my baby. My dog received the absolute BEST service! The amount of compassion the whole team showed us was incredible and made the whole process less stressful. I am beyond grateful for all the help and support they provided us. I have been wanting to write this review for a while, but I have never forgotten the amount of care my dog received there. I now live a bit far, in Pasadena, but would love to come by one day, and thank everyone for all they did for my dog Aquilles, who unfortunately passed away a few years later on unrelated issues. He developed cancer in the blood and was with me until his last breath. He died in my arms at home, surrounded by his fur-siblings. I miss him everyday, but I'm glad I found a wonderful and caring Vet who took excellent care of him. OK, I'm now crying as I write this but I want everyone to know how wonderful this clinic is. I've been going to DTLA vets with my 2 dogs for about 4 years and I can't recommend them enough. The front desk staff like Annie and Lisa (and others whose names I don't remember) are all awesome. It was slightly harder during COVID, but what wasn't? The vet assistants and vet techs are incredible, too. Huge shout out to Eder who is always incredible with my super spicy dogs. They give him such a hard time but Eder handles it with a smile as if they were the best dogs in the world. Eder you're awesome and I really appreciate you. This business has helped my dog (dogs) so many times. A year ago, Pablo was attacked by another dog and developed an enormous abscess at the site of the bite. I took him in during their urgent care hours and they operated on him right away. On another occasion, I thought he was having a stroke and they took him in right away. His symptoms were genuinely terrifying. The doctor assured me he was "just high." What?? Ok. Naughty boy ate some marijuana?? Didn't change the way they treated me... they were still really nice and understanding. Also, I was taking my elderly dog, Marley, for pain management, and Dr. Coward took such good care of her. We tried lots of things to help ease her suffering and eventually it was time to say goodbye. And so it was at this office that she went to sleep for the last time. It was so peaceful I thought, jeez can I come here when it's time for me to go? Seriously. My baby Marley was treated so well at the end of her life. I don't know if it's too expensive or what ... I don't care. They have helped my pups through so many trials and tribulations. They always see me right away. They know and love my dog. read more

They will run expensive diagnostics, and push you to an animal hospital without stabilization. I will be reporting them to the board. I came here, they ran diagnostics, identified him as a critical patient and did nothing to stabilize him. His pulse was 40 when I got to the hospital. We were told he might need surgery, and advised to go to an animal hospital. By the time I got him to the hospital, he was in critical condition, faint heartbeat, eyes dilated, pooped on me and lifeless. The hospital tried everything they could but he was too weak to recover from surgery. They asked me repeatedly why the vet didn't stabilize him. I don't know.. The front desk customer service is also terrible. I didn't catch the two ladies names but even when you have an appointment, they will make you sit outside with your sick pet in the cold/rain while they sit in the comfortable lobby because "they are understaffed," and gaslight you for getting upset. read more

My dog was very sick and DTLA vets was the closest to me and open late for emergencies. We walked in and right away were taken to get seen. Everyone was so great, my dog has extreme anxiety and she pooped inside because she was so scared and the staff was very understanding and kind about it. Of course I was mortified and embarrassed my dog did that but the staff did not care at all and cleaned up right away even when I said I'd do it myself. The care was amazing as well, Dr Claire Endo was and is amazing! I went in to take care of one thing and came out being taken care of in other ways like my dog's anxiety and proper medication for it. I had been to other vets to see about that and I was always told to just socialize her and train her and Dr Endo did no such thing and cared about my concerns and is helping me treat my dogs severe anxiety so she can properly be socialized and trained without fear. The bill of course was hefty but all vet bills will be hefty regardless where you go especially for emergencies. This is when pet insurance is helpful! DTLA vets is now our go to vet! I will be forever grateful to Dr. Castaneda for how she helped me and my dog Lala in our time of need. I was in the area for a conference this week, but the other night I frantically rushed over to DTLAvets when my dog was crying and severely bloated. Within the next few hours Dr. Castaneda carefully explained my pet's situation and surgery options, but I ultimately decided that the only answer was humane euthanasia for my 17-yr old baby who had already been struggling with multiple health issues. It was already past midnight and Dr. Castaneda continued to talk me through everything and never rushed me as I shared my final moments with Lala. She also allowed me to wait for my husband to drive down from OC so we can both be by Lala's side. And in that last hour they were so kind and patient with us as we said our final goodbyes. After a negative experience at a nearby veterinary center (feel free to check my reviews for more information if you are interested), we decided that it was time to try a new vet, even if it meant looking for one a bit farther from home. I came across DTLA vets and after some extensive research, which revealed a plethora of positive reviews; we decided to take a chance. It is one of the best decisions we've made for our furry little babies, and the fur babies or some of our closest friends and family. Experience #1: A friend's dog developed a severe ear infection which led to an ear hematoma. She couldn't take time off work (essential worker lucky enough to keep her job during 2020, so she asked us to help. DTLA vets were able to see him for emergency surgery. We dropped her big baby off when their office opened and within the hour we were called by the vet who explained, in great detail, what was going on with this pup and what would be required for treatment. They called us again right before surgery, at the conclusion of, and again when he was ready to go home. The constant calls and information provided was incredibly reassuring. Her baby made a full recovery. Experience #2: A family member took one of their dogs to a veterinary center I previously reviewed for dental surgery. The dog had all their teeth removed. Unfortunately, recovery was not smooth. What they claimed would be a quick recovery turned into days of their dog bleeding. Eventually, their dog started expelling blood from their nose. Calls to that vet were met with claims that this was perfectly normal and a reluctance to see him again. Finally, we suggested our family member let us take their dog to DTLA Vets. As you can imagine, DTLA Vets let us know that this was not normal. Through their love and care, our family member's dog left DTLA Vets in great spirits. By that night, the bleeding had stopped and he was back to his usual, spunky self that same week. Experience #3: We decided to take a chance and adopted a mini dachshund in terrible shape from an LA County shelter. The information provided by the shelter was, in simple terms, lacking and misleading. We took our new baby to DTLA Vets where Dr. De Silva took on the challenge. Dr. De Silva was kind and patient with us and our new furball. She did not mince words. "Cautious Optimism" was the overall there. She was hopeful that our pup could get better but did let us know that it would be an uphill battle. Everyone at DTLA Vets seemed so involved with our dog. How such a busy place could find the time to get to know each life that comes through their doors is inspiring. We left with hope but knowing that this story may not have a perfect ending. It was not meant to be. Our dog passed away later that week. Here is where the beacon of hope that is DTLA Vets shone bright. The morning she passed, we called to cancel our upcoming follow up appointment. The receptionist immediately knew who we were talking about and offered her condolences. Within the hour, my phone rang and it was Dr. De Silva. This was not a brief call. It was not rushed in any way. The hardest part of that conversation is the sincere sadness and disappointment in Dr. De Silva's voice as she spoke to us and offered her condolences. "We were all rooting for her. We were so hopeful", she said of our sweet, little one. That could have been the end of that story until a few days later we received a letter in the mail from DTLA Vets. Inside we found a sympathy card address to us with a heartfelt, handwritten message within. It was signed by the entire staff. On any given day this touching showing of love and understanding would mean so much. To do this all while dealing with a pandemic is almost incomprehensible in its heartwarming significance. Everything in their internet presence is true. They truly care for each soul that comes through their doors. They are located in downtown LA. Parking sucks, traffic sucks, and they might be a little pricier than locations outside of the downtown area. With that said, we don't go anywhere else. We used to really like this vet a lot and came here with all four of our pets but recently it's been going way down hill. The customer service is extremely bad. We waited almost 2 months for an appointment to get our kitten its shots and were told that the boosters would be included on the follow up visit and verified this repeatedly. When we went to the follow up, they then charged us for a full visit - Over $100. When asked about the charge, all we were told was that there must have been a miscommunication and were still expected to pay the full amount. We would have been fine with the price if that was what we were told to begin with. They seem to just want to get people in and out as fast as possible without taking any time to talk to their customers. They're also booked really far in advanced and it's difficult to get an appointment in less than a month. I don't recommend this place anymore, visit at your own risk. We've since started going to Grand Park Animal Hospital and are much happier with them. read more

This place changed after COVID :( they stopped having respect for pet parents and now run the office like a factory. The check in/waiting process is now unbearable. You're forced to wait outside 45 min to an hour (PAST AN APT TIME) on a dangerous street with homeless and crackheads coming at you, they lock the doors so you cannot come in the lobby and the front staff is pretty rude. While I do think they have good veterinary care, we couldn't deal with it any longer. We changed vets and are much happier at Modern Animal. read more

Another awesome review and this time for Dr. Castaneda! Thank you for loving our girl like she's your own. Update since my last review (2018), we since moved to the Valley but we still drive all the way to DT because of Dr. Castaneda, Dr. Flores, and of course the amazing staff who are so patient with all my repetitive requests. My Chloebear at a very young age was diagnosed with Sharpei fever. I was told by her first vet that I'd be lucky if she lived past 6. Well, I'm happy to say , she's 12 going on 13 and I know it's because of the care of both amazing doctors. Throughout the years, both Dr. C and F have have really cared for Chloe at the microscopic level. From conservative treatment to wellness checks, accupuncture, and red light therapy, my girl has received round the clock care from her DTLAVets care team! What matters the most is the amount of information and thoroughness both doctors give during our visits. They're not rushed and will call in the evenings just to check in or give their assessment. I've been bringing my female German Shepherd here for about 3-4 years now and it's been fantastic. The staff is always so friendly, patient, and informative. I really feel like they try to provide good quality care that is also comprehensive. My dog is a senior dog and I love how they make recommendations for her health without being pushy or making me feel like they are trying to sell me something extra I don't need. We all love our pets and DTLAVets knows that. They've done an excellent job adapting to COVID. You just have to call and let them know you're here. The only downside is the limited parking. Is anyone going to talk about the parking situation here and how inconvenient the entire check-in, communication, payment, and release protocol is? Sure, there is a single loading spot and another one or two street parking spaces in front of the clinic, but they are always occupied/unavailable and the building's parking lot charges $14 or more for a short visit - the clinic doesn't even provide parking validation. The first time I was there for my dog's first dose of her vaccine (April 2022), the owners weren't allowed to go inside the clinic even with masks on because of the "covid protocols." Also, even though we showed up 10 minutes before the scheduled appointment time and checked in, the staff made us wait outside standing for 40 minutes just for someone to come out to take our dog in. After the staff took my dog inside, they said it will take another 45 minutes for the vet to examine her before the vaccine. At this point, we had already waited for 40 minutes so we didn't want to stand outside for another 45 minutes. So, we told the staff that we will just drive back home first and then come back to the clinic in an hour. After an hour had passed, we got a call from the clinic that they need more time for her to be ready to go home... In summary, for the first visit, just to get a single dose of vaccine, I had to dedicate about 4 hours of my day. The second visit was a little better -- except for the clinic not allowing any owners inside -- as we waited about 45 minutes, instead of four hours, for the entire procedure to be done; however, again, since there aren't enough street parking spots in front of the clinic, we had to park inside of the building's lot which charged us $14. Also, this whole "tele-vet" application that makes the customers check-in, communicate, pay, etc is not for everyone as it can be very confusing to use for some people. read more

This is an overdue review for two visits in 2019. I live in DTLA and got a puppy, Skaggy, who needed to complete his remaining core vaccinations. Being a health conscious dog parent, I did my research and found DTLAVets leaning towards offering a more natural and holistic approach for animal care. We had an appointment with Dr. Goodwin. The visit was very straightforward, I came here for required vaccinations and the puppy was in good health. What surprised me was when the doctor asked us what kind of food we were feeding our dog. I said he's on grain-free, raw or fresh food diet (we switch it up sometimes), not kibble. Dr. Goodwin told me dogs need grain in their diet: over the course of hundreds of years domesticated by humans, they have evolved genes to digest grains. She stated that grain free diet has been linked to cardiovascular disease in dogs in a report published by the FDA, and that my dog is better off eating kibble with grain vs. a grain free raw/fresh food diet....WHAT? REALLY!!? I need to learn more about this ASAP! Shocked, I read through the FDA report. The grain free products in the study were all from kibble manufacturers. They claim their feed as "grain free" because they replaced grain with other unhealthy filler ingredients that dogs don't need, thus the increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Concluding from this report that dogs need to go back eating grain is a flaw in reasoning. Just because they evolved genes to digest grains doesn't mean they need grain in their diet, it means they can tolerate it. Just because we have livers to process alcohol doesn't mean we need it or we should drink more, it means we can tolerate it to a certain level. We fed kibble to my family dog, a 12 yo dachshund, all his life. As he got older, he started developing skin problems and was on strong medication to help his incontrollable itching. That's when I started looking into raw food diet and probiotics, which helped turn the tide. Medication helped control his itching, raw food helped him get off his meds. At our second visit for Skaggy's final core vaccinations, Dr. Goodwin asked if we switched his diet, suggested we give him an additional vaccine that was not required by law at our next visit and emphasized the importance of monthly heartworm tablets. We never went back to DTLAVets ever again. I set out to find a vet clinic with an alternative approach to pet health and I'm happy to pay more for it but DTLAVets gave me conventional answers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the care that was given to my dog here, doctors mean well and are just administering what they learned in veterinarian school, which is funded by big pet food and pharmaceutical corporations. At the end of the day, pet parents just want the best for our furry best friend, and you are your pet baby's best advocate. Stay curious, stay educated and ask questions. read more

If you bring your pet here for urgent care at night the lobby/waiting area is closed, so if you dont have a car to sit in because you ubered, they suggest you stand outside on the sidewalk in downtown LA for 3+ hours at night. What a ridiculous policy for pet parents already stressed out about a pet emergency. Forget this place, go anywhere else. read more

DONT GO HERE! If I could give negative stars I would. I read the negative reviews before going here and I thought it can't be that bad. They are all correct! Trust your gut! Our regular vet is up in Big Bear and we were here visiting and our vet and Big Bear said that our puppy needed some fluids because she was dehydrated because she had really bad diarrhea and maybe some medication to stop the diarrhea. I called this clinic and told him exactly the same thing I told her normal vet. I told the lady what our normal vet said and she said no problem. But please be patient. We're running about an hour, an hour and a half wait and I said no problem! 5 hours later the vet came out to tell my husband that my puppy was dehydrated needed fluids and a shot to stop the diarrhea. I knew that 5 hours ago. Why was there barely any updates? The only update we got is when we went to tell them or ask them something because it was after 5 pm and they made you wait outside! However, finally at around 9:00 p.m. (4 hours of waiting outside and three hours without our puppy) They let my husband go inside. They literally take your dog away from you and give you no updates! Don't let you in the exam room. Put your dog in a kennel and keep telling you that they're watching your dog. There's no emotion. No care for what you or your dog or pet or going through. I understand that there's emergencies and this is an urgent care and emergencies have to be seen first but when that happens tell the person waiting that there is an emergency and this is what's going on. Don't wait for the people to keep asking what's going on with my pet. You've had her for 4 hours and I have no updates. We would we're told that she's in there and then 5 minutes later something else came out and said she's next. Then they said okay the vet saw her the vet's going to call you 2 hours later. The vet finally came out to talk about the fact that she's dehydrated. If this was an emergency, would you have done something different because we watched other dogs come in and come out with what we think are less issues than a very small 4 lb puppy being dehydrated such as a dog eating marijuana and just being high. who knows where in the back your pet is because they separate you and tell you nothing! They just take your pet away from you and tell you to wait. Absolutely the worst customer service will never go here again. I don't ever recommend anybody ever coming here. I should have drove back to Big Bear and taking her to the vet up there and drove back to DTLA and it would have been quicker. read more

My Frenchie Future had cherry eye surgery last week, they called to check on him. Late last week his eye was swollen, had discharge and looked pretty bad. Took him in today they gave him ointment and a new cone that is built for Frenchies.. It was crazy banana's there today however they seem to manage the 'crowd' pretty well. Brought my kitty here, she's 9 months old and was running a fever. The nurse asked me the same questions 2 or 3 times, which means he either kept forgetting or wasn't paying attention. She had a fever but no other symptoms, which in most cases means it's a virus or infection, which can easily be tested. In response, they came to me with 1000$ worth of tests that she didn't really need, including an x-ray and a visit to a radiologist which are both very stressful for a cat. I asked if maybe we could rule out an infection or virus first and then move on to other tests, and she gave me a look that implied judgement. They didn't even offer her any meds for the fever, which they did offer at another clinic. They also charged me 94$ for a 'physical', and apparently for that money they will not clip your cat's claws. I left the clinic, took her somewhere else where she got an antibiotic for 100$ and she's fine now. Very disappointed. read more
