*updated review to add about our grooming experience, see end of review* I am writing this review after 3 boarding experience with K9 Tailshakers! We have boarded our Bernese Mountain Dog (Thor) with K9 Tailshakers for our annual family vacation as also completed a "Board & Train" program with the K9 Team. We have had a positive experience every time. I am a nervous person to begin with so leaving our fur baby is never easy for me. However, the team at K9 makes it as calm and easy as possible. I let them know that I would be emailing frequently for updates and they were happy to meet that request. Every other day, I wrote in and asked how Thor was doing. I received timely responses filled with personalized updates - if Thor was eating, what play activities he enjoyed, how he was acting in general, etc. Those updates helped easy my mind and truly allowed me to enjoy my vacation! If I had to give some constructive criticism, the only thing I would ask for is puppy cam/pictures. With that said, I appreciate the fact that the pups are their number one priority and would rather their time spent with them than uploading photographs. I'm so happy we chose K9 Tailshakers and their entire team. They work together seamlessly to make it such a happy, welcoming environment for both the fur babies and their parents. Thor is home and resting peacefully now. He enjoyed his "sleep-away camp"! Regarding grooming: We opted for an "Exit Groom" for Thor to receive on his last day of boarding. I emailed K9 and asked to add this service and requested a quote for a full groom. I received a prompt response and gave the go-ahead via email. On his last day, I received a voicemail from the groomer going over her experience with Thor. She was incredibly thorough and sweet. She told me she spent over 3 hours grooming Thor and informed me that she had misquoted (which happens often in the grooming industry, especially with Bernese Mountain Dogs) and that next time Thor would be an additional $20 (which was still a very fair price). She complimented us several times on how well behaved Thor was and how easy he was to work with. She also honored the initial quote without me even asking. When we picked Thor up, he looked nothing short of gorgeous. He was meticulously groomed and you could tell she took her time and worked diligently to make sure Thor was clean, trim and handsome. His nails were cut perfectly and it looked as though he lost 10 lbs just from the fur she was able to remove! We will now be using K9's grooming service with or without boarding. Exceptional work!

Pup cup for a job well done at training!!

I needed help with housebreaking, basic commands (sit, come, off the couch / people/etc) and crate training. Gibbs absolutely hated going in his crate and would whine and bark the entire time he was in there. I searched everywhere to find a reputable trainer that wouldn't use force or hurt my dog in an effort to train him. Thankfully, Nadine's approach revolves around love, affection and positive reinforcement. So I dropped Gibbs off on a Wednesday with his food (enough for two weeks), a collar and the crate that I would want him to sleep in. As promised, Nadine would sent me progress updates and pictures every day! This definitely helped put my mind to ease since it was difficult not knowing what type of dog I was going to get back or what was happening to him. When I went back to pick Gibbs up two weeks later, he was the same loving playful puppy that I dropped off. But, something was different... He was potty trained, he liked going in his crate, he obeyed basic commands and was actually more fun to have around. Nadine even trained him to alert me by barking when he needed to go outside. Not sure how she did it, but I can't say enough good things about her. There are other reviews on Yelp that are a couple years old so I figured I would post a recent review.. because my experience was fantastic!! If you've got a puppy or a dog that needs to be potty trained, you should seriously consider contacting Nadine for her help. She's professional, clearly loves what she does and gets results. Thank you Nadine!!!

I thankfully found Nadine online, I was new in Chicago and had no one to ask for references. I…read moreCalled her with questions about my hamster size 8 week old teacup Yorkie. Nadine called me back within 24 hours. She answered all of my questions. After three long phone calls (they must have been 45 minutes to an hour long) I decided to drop off my boo bear for a two week training session. My little Chloe was a tough cookie! After two weeks Nadine called and said "I would like to keep her another week-free of charge." Bahaha! Like mother like Furr baby....I thought...my dog is as stubborn as me! The hardest thing I ever did was leave my first with a stranger for three weeks. I wasn't sure what was going to happen when I picked her up and honestly I didn't care if she was trained at this point! I just wanted her back. I was amazed.. Chloe was so calm and submissive, yes just like how Ceasar Milan does it on TV! I was not allowed to look at her at first while Nadine "trained me." I needed it more than Chloe did. I was doing so many things wrong like baby talking her, letting her walk all over me, picking her up when she barked at me, letting her walk in front of me...so many things were wrong. Nadine taught me how to discipline Chloe and structure her days to make HER happy! Dogs love discipline, they love a challenge..Chloe like a lot of small dogs was a challenge. It took a lot of time, patience and discipline to get her where she is today. Well worth the effort. Chloe Johnlyn Boo Boo Bear is now 3 years old, 4 LBS and sweeter than Fanny May Melt aways! She travels with me EVERYWHERE. She has walked the streets of 5th ave in NYC, shopped in Dallas, we even got lost and ended up in the Tenderloin in San Fran (yikes-that was scary thank goodness it was 4PM and still light out!) HAHA People always ask on the plane if I drug her because she is so chill. ah no! I constantly get compliments when I take her out-besides that she is absolutely friggen adorable, that she is well behaved and sweet! She loves to meet new dogs, new people, fetch with Dad and roughhouse. She loves kisses and a nap snuggled up in the sun. MOST IMPORTANTLY- we recently moved into a new home with brand new carpet and I am proud to say Chloe has not had one accident! EVERY single time has been on a pee pad or outside! YAAY! Go Chloe! I will keep you posted on her success! I owe this thanks to Nadine. Without her we would be a hot mess! I am so happy to have a place where I can drop Chloe off for boarding that is not like an institution but a warm home with people around who love animals. She only accepts a few at a time so your baby gets so much attention. Nadine continues her training while boarding! She takes Chloe on long walks, socializes her with other dogs and people... Nadine has become family to us. I would recommend highly taking this route. Just call Nadine with your questions and I am sure you will understand why I trusted her just from talking to her on the phone!

Megan not only has a gift with dogs but also took so much time during pickup to educate us on how to set boundaries and interact with our dog. The difference in our dog's behavior has been night and day. He has a new sense of calm because he better understands our rules and boundaries, making our relationship smoother. I highly recommend Megan to anyone who wants to help their dog be well-balanced and how to provide that life for them.

He was definitely in need of some structured training, and we needed some structured guidance since he is our first dog. Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking....why the HECK would you pick a Great Dane as your first dog!?! Anyway, we googled "doggie boot camp" and came across this group of amazing trainers. We made a quick phone call to them, gave them some details, and were contacted quickly by the trainer directly. He explained their program usually lasts two weeks, and they would focus on some of the problems we mentioned. For instance, we explained that our not-so-little puppy was behaving as puppies do, but at his size the jumping, puppy craziness, nipping, leash pulling, and not coming when we called him was starting to be a big problem. We knew if we didn't do something soon, it was going to become an even more enormous problem to deal with! Though the training was a stretch for us on our budget, we took the plunge anyway and committed to the program. A couple of weeks later we dropped Merlin off on his new adventure. The trainer gave us a tour of the facility, and set our minds at ease. In fact, within the first ten minutes Merlin was acting remarkably well behaved with his new trainer! It's no wonder the trainer was like the "dog whisperer"...the trainer explained that he has actually trained with Ceasar Milan, and they use the same training techniques. We felt very comfortable leaving him, and were soon off on our way already missing our pup. It was tough leaving him, but we happened to be going out of town during that time and knew we were leaving him in good hands. Throughout the two weeks, we got occasional updates and pictures to show his progress. Towards the end of the two weeks, we spoke with the trainer and he wanted to keep Merlin for a third week at no charge. Though we missed Merlin, we knew we picked the right trainer because it was obvious that they wanted to make sure Merlin was fully trained to their satisfaction. To be honest, I wasn't that surprised that Merlin was being a stubborn boy! When the third week was up, we finally got to the day we could pick him up! It was bitterly cold outside, but we made sure to bundle up because the trainer said we would spend a couple hours with him working with Merlin. When we got to there, Merlin saw us the window and it was clear he was excited to see his mommy and daddy! The trainer spent a long time guiding us through the techniques, and giving us tips and recommendations. It was clear that this was mommy and daddy's time to get training! Merlin was amazing, so much more mature and calm...and such a good boy! After a couple hours we got to bring him home for some major cuddle time. I honestly believe that putting Merlin through his training has enriched his and our lives. We can take him places now that we never could have before. He goes to the dog park, has walked in parades, has been in the 5k9 walk in Chicago, and everyone loves to be around him. They truly did solve all of the problems we had with him. And the most amazing thing is that my mom, who was previously afraid of dogs, now adores Merlin and is even thinking about getting a dog of her own! The best part of completing the training is that we now have a place to board Merlin when we have to go out of town. We have taken him twice for boarding, and it is great because it is basically a "refresher" on his training while they have him. The most recent time we left him there, he was actually wagging his tail and EXCITED to get there! It was like we were leaving him for his own little vacation. In fact when we got there, he ran to greet everyone and forgot mommy and daddy were even there! I cannot praise this group enough...and I will be sure to bring all of my future dogs to them for their excellent training program. My biggest recommendation is to not wait until your dog has terrible habits...bring your dog in early so that his or her life can be lived to the fullest.
