Please DO NOT send your dog here! We had a life altering experience with Canine Obedience College that nearly cost us our young puppy's life and severely damaged us both emotionally and financially. Our healthy 7 month old golden retriever puppy, Oliver, was dropped off on the night of Friday, August 13th for their 2 week "bootcamp" program to attempt to correct his typical puppy tendencies. By Monday August 16th, just 3 days later, Oliver was rushed to the dog 24/7 emergency veterinary by Canine Obedience College where Oliver was fighting for his life. Oliver ended up staying at the 24/7 emergency vet for 8 days and was treated for heat stroke which developed under the care of Canine Obedience College. Months later Canine Obedience College has taken no responsibility for the incident described below and has simply stopped communicating with us after attempts to come to an agreeable conclusion to the incident.We cannot express more emphatically how disappointed we are in Darryl, Lisa, and Canine Obedience College as a whole for what they have put us through and the financial damage they have caused us. Please do not put your dog at risk by entrusting their well being in the care of Canine Obedience College. Upon being notified by Canine that Oliver was rushed to the emergency vet we scrambled to get there as soon as possible that night. We were absolutely devastated and shocked when they brought Oliver into the room to see us on a stretcher, unable to move or lift his head, and barely able to open his eyes. Oliver arrived at Premier soaking wet, latterly recumbent (unable to move), non responsive, with skin lesions, critical dehydration, and severe hyperthermia (dangerously overheated body). During Oliver's roughly 72 hour stay at Canine boot camp the only communication we received prior to the night Oliver was hospitalized was "Did good." and "He is a cutie! Seems a little nervous right now. Drinking a lot of water." after asking twice how Olver was doing. What they neglected to tell us was that Oliver did not eat the entire time he was there (except a few treats) and that he had been vomiting since the second day in their care. Not only did they not disclose the events leading up to Oliver's near death to us, but they did not follow up on Oliver's status after the first couple of days or if Oliver ever made it home from the hospital. Oliver was treated at Premier Veterinary Orland Park with every possible solution and treatment they could provide until Wednesday August 18th, when the medical team recommended Oliver be transferred to MedVet Chicago. MedVet is like the Northwestern of animal hospitals, at MedVet Oliver had the best possible treatments he could receive. He had been seen by every specialist in the building, tested for every possible underlying cause (all negative), and received around the clock care. Oliver had his ups and downs at MedVet, but he began to attempt to eat and drink a little bit by his 3rd or 4th day onsite. From there he slowly began to be able to sit up, stand, and even walk with all vitals improving. By Tuesday August 24th, 8 days after first arriving at Premier emergency vet, Oliver was discharged to home care on 8 different oral medications, 2 ointments, and a couple of IV bags if needed. Needless to say it was a long couple of weeks of at home recovery. Oliver was diagnosed and treated for suspect heat stroke causing multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. After all of these events unfolded and Oliver was home on a track to full recovery, we sent an email of the entire situation to Canine and asked for compensation for Oliver's medical care. They ignored emails until days or weeks later and multiple texts/emails were sent asking for a response. They finally responded asking for more info from the vets and we provided them with all of the reports, diagnostics, and invoices. They then referred us to their insurance company (tacit admission of guilt), who denied their claim as they did not have insurance coverage for this. They then immediately said it was not their fault and would not compensate us in any way. To this day, Canine Obedience College has not responded to our multiple letters sent over a month ago, emails, phone calls, or texts. While legal action has been contemplated, we are a young couple trying to save up for our first home and cannot afford the risk of potentially losing even more money. We cannot express more emphatically how disappointed we are in Darryl, Lisa, and Canine Obedience College as a whole for what they put Oliver through and for the financial damage they have caused us. They have a new owner and let me tell you the best experience I have ever had. Not only do they train the dog they train you. They explain in great detail what needs to be done and WHY. That is the most important part the WHY. So much knowledge. Bolt and our family can not thank you enough for this. They are now our number one trainer and boarder. Do not send your dog here! Waste of money! I paid $900 to send my dog here to get trained and she came back with all the same behaviors! Waste of money!!!!! I'm so sad and almost in tears right now it's so awful. My dog did not get any better and she came back so skinny!! Took her to the vet and she lost about 6 pounds during her stay! And she had multiple big scratches all over her body that the trainer said was just rough skin but were more like cuts!!! DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE!!! read more

I had my Raphael here for the basic & advance class. I loved that they did not use food to train.. All praise & affection to the dog. I just got a dog from the shelter & I need him to go to class. I learned alot from them but he needs the firmness in class & he learns fast from other dogs. I love this place.. 200% read more

I am enrolled in the basic dog training 8 week program. The instructor (Darryl) is very knowledgeable. My dog has been awful on the leash while going for walks for 2 years and he can now walk great after just one day at the training. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next 7 weeks bring and I will likely sign up for the advanced training. read more

The only reason why I am giving this 1 star is because my dog is still alive. I would not recommend boarding your dog here. Our dog came back last night and is extremely sick. The vet now has him on 5 medications for fleas, an eye infection and a bloody paw. He is also weak, dehydrated and looks like he hasn't eaten in days. They board the dogs in a shed in their backyard. All night barking. Barking during the day. It is unbelievable that they are able to get away with doing this. The dogs bark every night around 10 and every morning around 630 like crazy. Not to mention if there is something like a rabbit that goes by in the middle of the night they bark and bark. Not to mention the smell of dog crap, which is always nice when swimming or entertaining. All the neighbors are tired of it but nobody does anything. My husband and I brought our dog Ace to K9 and Amanda was our dog's one on one trainer. Our dog has "fear aggression" and we thought private lessons would be more helpful for him than group lessons. This place was the best thing for him! He has learned so much and we've even been able to have some family over now that we know how to handle Ace around people. Amanda is tough as nails and our dog immediately followed her like a pack leader. After a couple sessions he even licked her! That's a true sign of a trainer making a difference in a dog's life. When a dog-that people are afraid of-repeatedly licked her on the face you know she's doing something right! We can't wait to go back again. read more

We were told by the owner when we dropped our dog off on Saturday, we should call the business phone number on Sunday and he would try to arrange a time to meet with us back at the business on Sunday for us to pick up our dog. He mentioned it may not be possible to pick him up on Sunday and we may have to pick the dog up on Monday. When we asked him, the owner said he sets the business phone number to ring at his home when he is not at the business and we could reach him at that number on Sunday. We called the business phone number four times (over a period of 6 hours) on Sunday with no answer from the owner. Finally, on our fourth phone call at 8 p.m., the owner answered and told us we would have to pick up our dog sometime from 6:15 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Monday. When I confronted the owner about not answering his phone when I called multiple times, he said, "It's Christmastime, I was spending time with my family." Apparently, in these tough economic times, this business owner finds it annoying to answer his business phone calls. When we came to the business to pick up our dog, the owner made no apologies and brushed us off. Our dog whined in the car all the way home and when we got him home, he drank three bowls of water. Apparently, the business owner did not make sure our dog had adequate access to water. When we got home, we also found a large scratch on our dog's nose, that the business owner never mentioned to us. We fear this scratch was caused by the business owner's other two dogs, which our dog "played nicely with." So while the business owner enjoyed "Christmastime with his family," our dog sat without access to water. Bottom line, I would NEVER recommend the Canine Obedience College as a place you should trust with boarding your dog. Providing a dog with food and water should be the #1 priority. It is also grossly irresponsible for business owners to ignore their phone calls when they say they would answer them. It is extremely hard for me to believe these business owners do not have a cell phone for cases such as this. This is a small business that deserves to go out of business. read more

I would never recommend this business as a place to board your dog. The trainer assigned to our dog was supposed to help in our dog/cat situation. The trainer told us the dog "got along just fine with her cats and their was no problem in her house." Well, we continued to train the dog in the manner in which we were instructed and the dog attacked the cat! Also I felt that the dog was not the same when he came back and he was going to the bathroom in the house. The dog was 100% house broken. I can't help but wonder what the heck happend to the dog there. He came back a different dog...not for the good. read more

I took my Dobe there for the Bootcamp. It is a comprehensive program of boarding with training, a private lesson at pick up and 8 follow up training lessons. I was given the trainers phone number to call them directly and check on my dogs progress. They even sent me pics of her in training. They did a phenomenal job with our dog and they are very caring of the dogs. Our dog came back much improved and we would definitely recommend Canine Obedience College to all of our family and friends. We will also take our future dogs to them for training. Their prices are more reasonable then the other places we called. Other places do not offer follow up training which is key to the success of the dog and family! read more
