High quality Japanese food in a nice environment. I came for weekday lunch and got the premium set…read moremenu (48 GBP). The first course was some spinach leaves in a sweet sauce and it was actually better than expected. It then came with 3 pieces of sashimi which I could tell were very fresh and melted in my mouth. There was also a tiny container of tuna tartare. Lastly, for my choice of protein, I went with the black cod, which was a nice soft consistency and cooked well. The sauce on the side also added some nice sweet flavor to complement the fish. While the food was good, I do feel that 48 GBP is slightly on the high side considering the small portion sizes. The interior of the restaurant has some elegant and classy decor. That's probably why so many people come for business lunches here (plus the location). The staff are average friendliness, although the service speed was kind of slow. It was also weird that they for some reason couldn't find our reservation in their system but we were still able to get a table nonetheless. Overall, I think ROKA is a very choice choice if you are looking for a fancier Japanese meal than your typical sushi restaurant.

Roka is basically a typical faux luxury establishment of the type that has been popularized over the years in areas of low culture and/or regions where a particular cusine doesn't really exist. You know the type: pictures of beautiful people and food, tasteful font for the establishment, and a quick look at the about section of the restaurant reveals it's place as part of group founded by a bunch of executives; it's not so much a restaurant as it is an exercise in corporate branding. When you visit, you'll notice that the clientel reflects that branding design as well. Everyone here looks like they're part of a vertical strategy that includes the workers at the firm itself, the final spot on a flow chart diagram where the staff themsleves are the primary customer for the product and then a line arches back to the beginning of the flow to further inform strategic planning for more pan something restaurants. The name of this group could be called Ouroboros but that might be a little on the nose. Most izakayas on Planet Earth have better food that what you'll get here and for far less money. This said, you won't get to enjoy a space filled with the finance crowd who are all tastefully lit to ensure their Instagram selfies look good enough for them to tag themselves with the establishment. Service is slow and aloof. Skip it.

Mediocre food at very expensive prices. The interior design is quite nice but the rest of the…read moreoperation is a pan asian affair that you would find in a typical suburban mall in the States. You know going in here that the quality probably isn't going to be good. Straight away it violates two rules of good dining: 1) Pan anything is usually pretty poor, 2) A huge menu that doesn't make any choices is probably going to suffer. We ordered one of the set menus. As far as I could tell, this place dedicated to "sticks" and "sushi" had no "tuna" or "negima" on the menu at all which is pretty weird to start but we definitely tried to find them. Instead, salmon seemed to be the fish of choice and all of the ala carte skewers were at exorbitant prices; note that a much more delicious yakitori anything in Japan costs about 100-200 yen, not 1500 yen, but ok. Instead of beloved tuna we received red pepper nigiri as part of our set menu - what? There was a chicken roll that was kind of like a grilled chicken salad in rice paper that was OK. Etc. The quality of the fish in the nigiri wasn't bad but they have no idea how to make sushi rice here so I would avoid nigiri all together and just stick to sashimi if you're going to order from the sushi side of the menu. Oh and my 350ml bottle of junmai cost 49£, which was pretty typical for the sake prices here. So yeah, if you're visiting from the States set your sights on "Suburb Mall Court Fusion" with a bill around 200 bucks and you'll have an idea of what you're in for. Avoid it.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone and please be sure this business survives because it is magic in the forest.

The manager was very friendly, but my water, John, made my experience top notch! He was personable and had great recommendations for food. I ate so much I cannot walk! The menu covers everything you would expect pretty well too and, given all the city folk around, not expensive The service was very good, friendly and efficient As for the food - it was acceptable, not the best I've ever had by any means but nothing untoward; a straightforward meal, tasty, spicy but not overbearingly hot and certainly plentiful...if in Canary Wharf again I would return
