The wait time was only 15-20 mins and by the time I got there my food was ready. The place was very quiet for dinner service with only 2 tables being occupied. The staff greeted me at the door right away and were very friendly. Food was good. I ordered the Edmonton and dragon eye roll. I wasn't too crazy about the Edmonton one but I enjoyed my dragon eye roll. I came to Kabuki Sushi & Grill South for lunch recently. The atmosphere and service were good. In terms of food, I tried their Bento Box B with chicken instead of beef and the Chopped Scallop Roll. There was quite a bit of food for the Bento: 4 big pieces of sashimi (2 salmon, 2 tuna), 2 sushi (1 salmon, 1 tuna), teriyaki chicken, assorted tempura, salad, edamame, rice, and miso soup. Everything tasted good overall: Good miso soup that was not too salty, Fresh sashimi and sushi, especially the tuna, Nicely grilled chicken that went really well with the rice, Decent tempura, Nice balance of salad and edamame with the rest of the items. The chopped scallop roll was pretty good as well with nice chunks of scallop. Overall, the bento was better than expected and made a very full lunch, albeit more expensive than some other restaurants' bento boxes. As such, perhaps lowering the price while reducing the amount or number of items a bit may be considered...I'd give them 8.3/10 read more

We really wanted sushi but the places we'd beenliked were closed. We searched online for a replacement and Kabuki came up. We gave it a try and we're glad we did. We ordered the Tuna nigiri as well as the Spicy scallops, Edmonton and California rolls. They were all really good and judging by the place as we walked it, they were surprisingly good. The atmosphere is nice but it isn't high-end. Images of dessert taped to the wall usually helps a place stay grounded. Overall, we liked it a lot. Prices were fine. Time for an updated review, seeing their prices have gone up since I last reviewed. Tuesdays and Thursdays are great times to dine in; there are dine in specials on Monday (Shrimp Tempura), Tuesday (Love Boat), Thursday (Dragon Eye Roll special) and Friday. They have recently changed their menu. The restaurant wasn't busy tonight. It is very kid friendly, with high chair(s). There are no change tables but there is a table in the bathroom. The kids love miso soup, tempura and the yaki udon. If you ordered the bento boxes, miso soup comes with it. So, it was economical to order bento boxes and let the kids eat off our plates while we each had a small serving of sashimi with Bento Box B pption. Dinner for 4 came to around $72 (two bento boxes and 2 dragon eye rolls) after taxes and gratuity, so it is a nice place to go to for special occasions or when you are in the mood for good Japanese food. read more

We stumbled upon this place almost by accident... we were driving in from the airport and wanted to stop at the Hong Kong Bakery a few doors down. We were hungry and decided to try this on a whim... and we were blown away. The value vs. quality here is top notch. An amazing meal at a very reasonable price. I was in the mood for soup (I'm in the mood for soup 99% of my waking hours) and ordered the Chicken Udon combo which came with 3 pieces of sushi. I think it was about $12 and it literally could not have been better. Heather ordered a dinner box (bento box) and shared with me, it was amazing as well. Everything was fresh and tasty. The place itself is very unassuming from the outside, nice and clean inside though not overly fancy. The waitress was awesome. Wow!! What a wonderful little sushi restaurant!! I love sushi, so finding delicious sushi joints in edmonton has been my goal. We all know that it'll never be as good as Vancouver sushi or sushi in Asia, but Kabuki definitely comes extremely close!! Their sushi tastes fresh and their rice is perfectly cooked! Portion sizes are decent and their menu, though not ridiculously large, has all the go to items and staples to make for a great sushi restaurant! They have ample vegetarian options as well. Every day is a different special (Except it looks like Wednesday's and the weekends) and their prices are decent for what you get! The atmosphere is cosy and this is a wonderful place to catch up with friends or learn more about someone on a first date ;) out waitress was friendly and food came out pretty fast! It took awhile for the waitress to notice that we've been waiting in the restaurant to be seated. The restaurant was a small cozy setting, dim lighting, clean and well organized. The Special throughout the week are appealing. No Specials for the weekend. We wanted to try a few things here to see how the food was like. The Beef Udon had a good broth, the beef was tender, and the udon was cooked al dente. It was satisfying for an afternoon lunch. My sister enjoyed the Avocado roll. It was simple and refreshing. I had the Hungry Roll. It was really greasy and the rice was too crunchy and it was sticking to my teeth. I didn't find the fish fresh for the Tuna Roll. Sushi! This by most is the best tasting sushi. I've tasted other sushi places. Highly recommend this place for a taste. Food is very presentable, and delicious. Dine in space is average. The background music is pleasant with Asian music. Washrooms are fairly well kept. Waitress was great. Timing of the food to come out was good but than again it wasn't busy when I first came in. Ika Karage, Toro/Unagi Sushi, Yakidori Came here because i was an hour early for dinner, and was super hangry. The Ika (squid) Karage had a thick batter and was really crispy but leaned over to the greasy side. The ika itself was just ok, a little tough for my liking, but whatever I still ate it. Toro and unagi sushi was pretty standard, nothing overly great or overly depressing about it. Yakidori is grilled chicken and green onion on a skewer. Was hoping for a thick piece of green onion than these pathetic pieces that I was given, it made the onion an afterthought. Also thought the skewer was over sauced, a paintbrush of sauce would've been fine but in this case pouring a cup of sauce on 2 sticks of meat seemed like the move. it was not. Located on Calgary trail next to the Domo, this place is just aight. Service was quick and interior was nice. Capitalize on the fact that it's right next to a virtual golf if that's your thing. Such a cute sushi restaurant! We love going here after work (which is around 5 so we beat the dinner rush!) The ambiance is super nice and the decor is absolutely fabulous! Can I just say that the grilled octopus ($10.95) IS FREAKING AMAZING. Each time they give us a little less than before, but let's just blame economy nowadays. THE SAUCE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Perfect bit of spice. Mama Wong swears its just sriracha with probably japanese mayo LOL. We recommend the norwegian mackerel ($10.95) or salmon collar and head ($11.95) over the alaskan black cod ($15.95). Best bang for your buck. Although they're all very delicious! Brother Wong's favourite is the blazing unagi roll ($15.95) which is absolutely and literally LIT. Not only is the fire part an amazing thing to watch, but the eel is so soft and delicious. It practically melts in your mouth. And of course, he always needs the seaweed salad ($5.50) to go with his sushi. It was pretty standard, nothing special. The oiler's roll ($14.95) and energy roll ($12.95) is also super good if you want to give it a try! Well, tbh, we ordered the oiler's roll purely based on Edmonton pride, but it was wroth it. Sister Wong's favourite is baked salmon roll ($12.95) or the spider roll ($14.95). The portions are pretty good, but lately we've been noticing that its been getting less and less. Which to be honest is super disappointing. They do give out fantastic green tea candies afterwards though! And the actual green tea is always wonderfully warm and pleasant. This is a very unassuming restaurant in a strip mall, and it's entrance is connected to golfzone (I thought I was going into the wrong place or that they were closed cuz one of the doors were locked, but thankfully the other door was open!) This is a clean & dimly lit restaurant. Ambience is calming with its Japanese theme & jpop music. There is a tree masking a support pillar, but it adds to the ambience & theme. It is child friendly here & they have high chairs and a booster seat available. Washrooms are clean & modern. Parking is not an issue on a weekday evening. Service was excellent. Immediate seating, attentive server. Pace is not rushed & food is served out without too much of a wait. Bills can be split upon request. Great weekly specials. I went on Tuesday with friends & it's half price on the love boat which feeds 2. Also, being pregnant, they do have a decent selection of cooked items including sushi, so I didn't feel entirely left out of the menu or restricted to appetizers or rice bowls. Half the offerings on the love boat were actually edible for me. I also ordered the dragon eye salmon roll which is something I order at every Japanese restaurant I go to if it's available. I think it would be worth it for me to come back on their 50% off dragon eye salmon roll on Thursdays. Overall pricing is affordable too. Recommend the Blazing Unagi Roll for an amazing taste of fire, eel and avocado if you like seared food and rolls. A very impressive presentation too! They also have the best negitoro maki I've eaten anywhere! Love their take on it :) The Miso soup is great! Red miso base. The chefs are open to special requests for temaki cones too :) I love their nigiri. The rice is great and the proportions and cuts are the best in Edmonton. Great new Sushi spot. The atmosphere is a somewhat elegant surprise, especially for a strip mall. Nice décor and seating and the music is not obtrusively loud but very relaxing. The staff is friendly but not invasive. I had take out for lunch and enjoyed my short wait. The food was delicious and well presented. Even in my take out containers presentation was considered and well done. I tried the Spicy Tuna Lunch Combo (Spicy Tuna Maki Rolls and Spicy Tuna Sashimi) and was pleased. Very fresh and the spicy sauce had a nice kick. The Sashimi was prepared unusually with very thick pieces and presented with julienned lettuce and cucumbers, I loved that touch. I've said it once and I've said it again - this is one the best if not the best sushi restaurant in town. Consistently fresh, fast and delicious. Authentic and best ingredients. Flavorful but not in your face. One of the few places in town that has "aburi"/seared sushi. Aside from their always fresh sushi, their cooked food is super good too. Their udon bowls use the real udon not that weird stuff that lives on shelves for years. Their chicken is always really tender and melt in your mouth. I have to be honest. I just ordered delivery from here (gyoza and spicy tuna roll), and when it arrived I opened up the bag to find a dirty napkin... The outside of the napkin was clean but the inside was smeared with some woman's lipstick kisses. The food, though it was okay, probably tasted much worse due to the fact that I had totally lost my appetite. They obviously had this napkin on a table and assumed it was clean and tried to reuse it. I worked in the service industry and you are not supposed to reuse anything on the table. For this reason, I wonder about their health standards. I went to Kabuki with my family after hearing about their Tuesday night half price love boat special. It's basically $20 for enough sushi for 2 people, which by Edmonton standards is unheard of. Because we brought our 2 year old we ordered an extra avocado maki for him. The sushi boat was excellent, it came with a pair of Rolls which were both quite good, I preferred the california roll to the Edmonton roll, mostly because I don't like my rolls too saucy, and the Edmonton roll had some extra sauce in it. The tempura was perfect. The nigiri sushi's were quite good, with a good rice to fish ratio... There was 1 nigiri that threw me off though, it was the squid, it was VERY tough... If I was to get it again I would ask them to hold the squid, which is weird because I usually love squid.... it was just very very tough. ordering a pot of tea was good as well, because they charge by the pot and not by the person, so we got plenty of tea for $1.95. My only concern other than the squid was that there was no change table in the bathroom... plenty of wall space and a handy cap stall to accommodate one, but the lonely pedestal sink left a lot to be desired when changing a baby (note to owners: put in a change table in both washrooms, because right now neither washroom has one) The service was excellent, we had 2 people taking care of us, who seemed very attentive and on top of our needs. Cute atmosphere with a fake cherry blossom tree inside the restaurant. Service was mediocre. Our waitress asked us how our food was and filled up our water glasses once. I got the yam tempura roll which was formed way too big to eat one piece at a time. The roll itself was good but it was not bite size and when I tried to take half a bite or cut it in half it just spilt all over and was messy. I also the chicken karaage which was just okay as it lacked flavour. I think had the beef udon. The dish entirely tasted like broccoli. My friend had two different rolls and wasn't overly pleased when them either. When I got up to the the washroom, one of the staff members gave me a judgemental look. I won't be going back. read more
