    Sushi box

:( I am sad to leave this review because I have been excited to come try this place, but overall it missed the mark and was a let down. Inside was busy which was a great sign, and the restaurant itself is cute. It's not very big but there are some smaller tables and comfortable booths. I are with a friend and our server was pretty abrupt and rude. She did not take the time to check on us and we seemed like an inconvenience to her. I ordered the sushi box (sashimi, sushi, seaweed salad, California roll) and it came with miso soup. Miso soup was good. The seaweed salad was also good. The California roll was too heavy on the avocado and the crab portion was very small - it was not well balanced. The roll itself just tasted bland. This was my first indication this wasn't the best place to get sushi. The sushi itself (nigiri) was very very average. The fish was just kinda bland and the cut was good but not great. The sashimi though was horrible and without the rice to hide it I knew the fish was just off. It looked okay, but as soon as I took a bite of the salmon I tasted a distinct metallic flavor and the texture was off as well. I tried a bite of the tuna and it had the same problem but was worse. I passed on the sashimi which was a huge bummer because the portion was decent but the quality of the fish was not good. I don't like to make a fuss and just ate the rest of my food since there was plenty in the box and towards the end my friend said that she wasn't going to finish her tuna roll because the fish tasted off. It seemed like a problem in multiple dishes. I paid about $30 for just myself but couldn't eat the sashimi because of the issue with the fish, which was a large portion of my meal wasted. I unfortunately would not eat here again.

Called in an office order for lunch for 4 people and the woman who answered the phone and took my order was incredibly nice, friendly and professional. She asked me how many extra sauces and chopsticks we would be needing. Good portions of hibachi lunch. Sushi rolls were also a good size with a good amount of fish. Decent sushi, the shumai were the star of my lunch!! They came with a really good dipping sauce. Will definitely be ordering here for lunch again!

Saw a recommendation for Kabuto online and it definitely worked out! Great food, very nice waitress, very simple indoor seating.

Had a good takeout experience yesterday. They had it done on time and everything in our order correct. The menu on the website is not updated as far as prices so we didn't know what our total would really be, but all the items were still the same. We got a selection of rolls, one kids meal with chicken teriyaki, and the shrimp tempura and edamame appetizers. The rolls we got were tuna, spicy red snapper, eel and cucumber, Alaska, and green hunk. My favorites were the last three mentioned, but all were good. The red snapper was the only one that I felt was a bit weak, it wasn't very spicy and the sauce and tempura flakes seemed to overshadow the fish. I'd love to go back to eat in at this restaurant and have some more sushi and try a few more rolls. Overall a satisfying and filling meal; the kids meal was plenty for my two toddlers to split and still have rice leftover, plus they shared our tempura and edamame and enjoyed it all. A satisfied family!

Honestly, not too sure what I think about this place. There wasn't anything tooooo special. In terms of quality, it was not bad. Ordered tiger roll and spicy tuna roll. Makes sense for sushi to be pricy??, but not sure if I'd want to come here again and pay the same price I did. I thought the flavor of the rolls was near the sweet spot: neither too bland or too flavorful. If sushi, especially raw rolls, are too flavorful, it masks the flavor and sometimes even distracts you from the texture of the raw fish. However, the next time I come, I will most likely try out other aspects of their menu such as entrees from the hibachi grill: they looked really good when I noticed other tables ordering them. Give this place a shot and deem for yourself whether you like it or not.

Extremely overhyped, and extremely bland. After looking on yelp for the best places to eat Japanese food in Cville, Kabuto kept popping up. Unfortunately, the food was nothing like we expected it to be. We ordered the hibachi steak and shrimp combination entree, as well as the crazy roll, salmon roll, and eel & avocado roll. We got everything for pickup, and the food was ready and hot when we got there. The cashier was relatively friendly, and we were able to pay quickly. The hibachi entree was bland, and the fried rice was really just rice mixed with soy sauce, nothing special. The steak was overcooked and tough, and the shrimp was overcooked as well. The only thing that really contributed any flavor was the yum yum sauce on the side. The sushi was bland and was almost warm when we got it. After eating only a few of the rolls, we ended up tossing it out, since our stomachs felt a bit sick afterward. While it wasn't spoiled, it was definitely a bit suspect, and at the very least, it didn't taste good enough to spend time on. All in all, the food was disappointing.

The sushi was wonderful! This was actually my second time eating their food (the first time was take-put though). The restaurant is kept super clean and the service was very friendly. * We got the sashimi combo C and all the fish were super fresh. My favorite was the salmon then the escolar. I am not sure it is tuna season, as the tuna was a pale red and a bit tougher. * For rolls, we got the butterfly, green Hunk, california, and the Jade. All were FANTASTIC. The green hunk and Jade were no rice, wrapped just in soy paper. Out of all of them, my absolute favorite was the Green Hunk. I liked the crunchiness of the seaweed salad in the midst of the roll

The prices went up by MORE THAN 20% from the posted menu in the pictures, they have new menu prices. When I ordered and pointed this out and that there is a whole website with the pdf of the menu they said that was many years old and it is not operated by them, so just FYI, for example, the sushi platter now js $48.25. I actually really enjoyed this, much more than I anticipated. When I ordered the sushi platter (I thought I clarified but I miss understood I guess) hoping for a platter of rolls (as it was from my precious local sushi place in another city) and not predominantly nigiri. But I was pleasantly surprised by the befriended, it was very fresh fish and tasted great. It was plentiful and we didn't even end up finishing it all. Actually the California roll/tuna roll was my least favorite and I found that dry and preferring the nigiri (rice with fish). The platter came with 2 miso soups and that I guzzled down (I love soup) and that was an added surprise. We also got the shrimp dumplings and the fish salad in a vinaigrette. Again, not what I expected but was pleasantly surprised. Loves them both. I at first didn't think the salad was big enough, but after eating everything it was the perfect size for sharing and not having waste. All in all, this exceeded my expectation from my initial disappointment (again, miss communication and expectations from precious platters), but was very satisfied and happy that I would certainly give 4 stars and likely order again. Of note, doing there, the restaurant was very busy with sit down diners, which again I think speaks volumes.

Have you ever seen something online and thought... I gotta have that! That happened to me last…read moreweek. While relaxing and checking out The Gram, I came across an amazing looking cupcake. I'm an Oreo / Cookies and Cream addict. I've never met an Oreo I didn't like... Thin...Regular...Stuffed...Double Stuffed -- You name it, I've eaten it. Now...Imagine my suprise when I found out I could get them at the Farmer's Market 5 minutes from my house!! What?!?!? Of course, you know where I was on Saturday... At the Farmer's Market, checking out Totally Baked. Now let's talk cupcakes. We got half a dozen (yes, I shared). I'll review them as they are listed. Side note: The pictures DO NOT do them justice. If you want to see great pictures, check out her IG page @totallybakedcville -- 1) Cookies and Cream: Ya'll this cupcake had a legit Oreo baked into the cake! Chocolate cake with a light creamy icing. The icing had cookie cumbles and a minature Oreo on top. First bite was great! The mix of cream and cake was amazing. I got a hint of the Oreo in the middle, which made the second bite even better. The cake did a good job of holding up around the cookie. I was worried the cookie might become loose. Great start to the tasting. 2) Chocolate Cherry: I do enjoyed filled cupcakes. This chocolate cake had cherry on the inside of the cake. It was topped with a very light cherry flavored icing. The cherry inside helped keep the cake moist. Solid. 3) Lemon Blueberry: Ok, so this was my least favorite. It was good, don't get me wrong, just not my cup of tea. This was the "suck up" cupcake. I got it to "suck up" to my mother in law. She loves Lemon Blueberry. Again this white cake had blueberry in the middle, topped with a light icing and blueberries on top. Very good, but just not for me. 4) Pistachio: Ummmm.... I'll be honest, I rolled my eyes at first when my better half chose this one. BUT... It was my next favorite after Cookies and Cream. The cake was amazingly flavored. It has just enough of the pistachio flavor to keep me intriged, but sweet enough to keep me around. Paired with the pistachio icing and crumbles, this one is a hit! 5) Sweet and Salty: Solid white cupcake with what tasted like a maple glaze over the cupcake. Pretzel pieces were then placed on top of the icing and glaze. I love the texture the pretzel pieces give the cake. Exactly as it is described... Both salty and sweet! 6) Another Cookies and Cream... What?? You think I wouldn't get two?!? I wasn't sharing that one. Overall, I'm proud that my IG digging found them. I love they are close. They do caterings for any type of event. They even offer free delivery?!?! I mean, if they can't make it any easier. They are officially... on my list!
