I would've left right then and there but my significant other still wanted to give them a try so we did. The male who owns this restaurant continued to snark and be snippy with us the ENTIRE TIME. First of all...I see some negative reviews that just blow my mind. I'm not sure if some people are just being crazy or exaggerating their experiences...but when I went to Tea House tonight I was thoroughly impressed. There seemed to be a regular customer there that was picking up food after me and speaking to the owners as if she knew them for years. It was clean, my food was fresh and delicious, and the man that made my sushi and the woman that checked me out were smiling and very friendly. There sushi was amazing! I had two types of tuna rolls and a sea weed salad (which if you never had you should try!) My experience was great! I hope you'll ignore all the negativity this place has received. Excellent Avocado Salad, the ginger dressing makes the salad so delicious. The Singapore Rice Noodle dish is my favorite that I've had there so far. General Tso's is also good, however, when I ordered it yesterday it tasted like a mix of Orange chicken and General Tso's. We haven't gone to the Tea House in over a year because of the sheer rudeness of the owner. In the past however, the food at least was good. Against my wishes, my family decided to give them a second chance despite their rudeness. Our daughter had to wait 30 minutes past the designated pickup time for our food, by the time she got home, the food was cold and the egg rolls were soggy and mushy. We live less than 5 minutes away. So now, the place continues to be rude and the food quality has diminished. So much for second chances read more

The sushi at Tea House is excellent! Everything is very fresh and the presentation of the rolls is always on point. Coming from Hawaii where you can get great sushi and sashimi from just about anywhere on the island, I was skeptical about trying sushi from a Chinese restaurant and I don't mean that disrespectfully. But I had an urge and others also gave good reviews for the sushi so I decided to give it try. Glad I did. The queen roll is my personal fave. Their shrimp tempura roll is also tasty! read more

Tea House is a gem of Crozet. The menu is extensive and the food is pretty delicious. The sushi stands out among everything else they serve, in my opinion. I've only eaten here for a few take out orders, which, by the way, you can easily order online through their website. I've had the chicken and broccoli, the cashew chicken, the lo mein, and the spicy tuna roll sushi. None have disappointed! The service has been great and friendly with takeout- it is fast and the food is extremely fresh. I haven't dined in, but the dining area is lovely, and I look forward to dining in for a meal sometime soon. Went in for 2 quarts of soup. They didn't give me the noodles they should have last time or the extra ones I paid for. I reminded them they owed me noodles from last time. They argued with me and kept asking how many I want. I told them there should be 4, 2 for these soups and 2 from last time. There was one in the bag and I was so fed up I just wanted the order, which was paid for and when I tried to take my order the owner grabbed my arm! We have tried to give them a second chance Since the last time we eat in the restaurant with one of our friends for their birthday we thought they were being nice bringing over a piece of cheesecake just to help celebrate it and then they charged me for it on my bill.will never go back and should press charges for assault read more

THEY DONT EVEN DESERVE YOUR TIME OF DAY READING THIS. First off, my wife does Grubhub on the side, she called this restaurant before she arrived to see when the food was going to be ready so she could let the customer know. (The customer already placed the order and all she as the driver needed to do was to pay for it and pick it up). A man answered the phone (with a pissy attitude), then proceeded to say he was too busy to take her order and before he ANGRILY AND ABRUPTLY HUNG UP on her, he CALLED HER A B*TCH and told her to "go F*cking inside to order." My wife is literally just the grubhub driver and the customer already placed the order. (My wife (surprisingly) never not once cussed back at him; she only raised her voice during this entire encounter). My wife then calls the restaurant back immediately and a woman picks up the phone and is super sweet and patient with her and places the order for her since they apparently "didn't have the grubhub order." When my wife shows up to pay for the food, she sees the man and they make eye contact and he walks straight back to the kitchen without saying anything to her. THEN THE MAN TOLD THE WOMAN HELPING MY WIFE AT THE COUNTER TO NOT GIVE HER A RECEIPT, 1. It's required by Grubhub 2. He was being petty After my wife calls the customer to inform them of the refusal to print the receipt, the customer then gets upset because he placed the order 30 minutes prior to all of this only to find out his food was not going to be ready for another 45 minutes!!! Long story short, the man at the restaurant 1. Cussed my wife out 2. Refused to print the receipt 3. Stalled the food out of spite 4. Ran behind the kitchen when she showed up BTW Grubhub handled the situation EXCELLENTLY. They fined the restaurant for breach of contract for how he treated my wife and Grubhub took them off their available restaurant options/directory. read more

My fiancee and I love the sushi and sashimi at the Tea House. We think it is better than most places in Charlottesville, and less over done (we prefer more traditional and basic options, but there are fancier options as well). Very relaxed atmosphere and wonderful for a quiet dinner with your special someone or small group of friends. Not extremely fast service, but we see this as a plus--if you're going out, you should want to sit back and relax for a while. Prices are very reasonable. A pot of jasmine tea, miso soup, and sushi for two should be in the $30-40 range, depending on how fancy you get. Add some sake or beer to further add the the experience! read more

What a great restaurant! I recommend anything on the menu. I've been here multiple times and everything has been extremely fresh and enjoyable. The only drawback I would mention is that there is usually only one or two people working in the restaurant. And when I say one person that means he buses the tables, take sure order, and cooks the food, and makes the sushi. Therefore you have a little bit of a wait. But even though it is still not a long wait where it is noticeable. He will keep bringing you things to munch on and drink so the flow of food is very good. Try the sweet potato tempura sushi roll. Tea House is excellent. Always fun to find that little sushi place in a strip mall that just really nails the food so well. Have tried various rolls and have never been disappointed. One thing I like is that the sushi isn't buried in some heavy sweet sauce that hides the fish. That happens too often 'round these parts, but not here. A favorite is the Sakora Roll. Kung pao, shrimp with snow peas, and vegetable dumplings all very good. Owners are really friendly. Service is fast, and the price is good. We've become regulars. read more

We have been disappointed lately with the declining quality at Crozet's other Chinese restaurant, New China, so we decided to try Tea House last night, even though it's quite a bit more expensive. Several neighbors liked it and reviews on other sites were very positive. We were very disappointed. I always test a new Chinese restaurant with chicken and broccoli. The broccoli was crunchy (good), but the chicken was dry and overcooked. The brown sauce was thin and watery and didn't do much to enhance the flavor of the dish, which was lacking. I also ordered egg drop soup, but it had a terrible band-aid flavor to it!! It was dark in color instead of a golden yellow. I literally dumped it down the drain after two spoonfuls. One of my kids got beef lo mein, and he said it was salty. The wonton soup was also very salty, and was much darker than wonton soup should be. A large soup only had three wontons! We also had two orders of General Tso's chicken, one regular and one we requested to be extra spicy. It was nice to see that they weren't dripping in sauce, and they actually had a fair amount of broccoli in them. But the trays weren't full; we usually get 3 or more servings out of one but had just enough for 2. My husband said it tasted good, but the extra spicy one wasn't that spicy. My kids prefer fried rice over plain white rice, but they said it was tasteless. The beef sticks appetizer we ordered had a sweet sauce on it and were chewy, according to my family. My husband knew I wouldn't like the sauce (he didn't either), so I didn't try it. We used an Attractions coupon, which took $8 off the price, but it was still $48 for three entrees, a large soup, a small soup and the beef sticks. If it had been really good, we would have been happy. But we won't be ordering from here again. If you live in Crozet, you're better off driving 10 minutes east and getting take-out from Dragon Lady or Ming Dynasty. read more

Thought I would give this a try. One day I stopped to get a quick lunch as a take out. The lunch menu included a soup. I chose Wonton. When I got home and opened the bag to retrieve the soup it consisted of about maybe less than 2/3 cup of broth and ONE small wonton. It was homemade but only one tiny wonton? Later, trying to give this another try, I took my daughter there to sit in and eat lunch. I didn't order from the lunch menu but a regular menu and ordered a shrimp and scallop dish. When I got the meal, there were no scallops. I called back the waiter, who apparently was new, that I might have gotten the wrong dish. The owner overheard and started to yell at me. I was shocked. He yelled that the waiter was new, he made a mistake, etc. I'm fine with that, it happens but I wasn't making a federal case about it. They take back the dish and I finally get another dish (my daughter was finished by now with her meal) and it wasn't obvious that I got any scallops at all. There was plenty of shrimp but moving my food a little I was able to ascertain that I got one small scallop, cut into 4 smaller pieces. The owner continued to ream the poor waiter after this and watched his every move. This place is small and he was not discreet. So, I won't be back. read more

Fried Rice tasted rancid; Kung Pao Chicken should have been Kung Pao Veggies with Chicken as there was little chicken and the Fried Crispy Beef was bland and had a bit of a fishy taste. When I called the restaurant to resolve the situation, the owner was very short with me, and did nothing to resolve the problem.
