This felt like a very college town place and had a pretty impressive spread of UVA themed art on display. It is a below ground space and not overly fancy. The menu was broad and well suited for most diets. Normally, I am not a huge fan of tofu in American style dishes, and prefer to leave it to the Asian cuisines to which it is native, however, their wrap with what they say is local tofu delivered a crave-ably good mix of flavors. Ordering a sandwich and salad combo meant that I didn't get the bigger size of the sandwich which I would've been quite happy to have tried. Ordering a salad to give me a hint of disappointment as they were out of blackberries, but the other fruit they substituted in worked fine. I managed to make it out without trying any soup, which is perhaps unfortunate, but a testament to the fact that they had a lot of good options. This place was a hole in the wall that I only found due to Yelp and Maps. It is not wheelchair accessible as I found out the hard way. I ended up carrying my baby in the stroller down two flights of stairs to get there and barely was able to squeeze the stroller in between tables. I had to lift a few chairs out of the way to get him through. I was determined to get good soup, and the ratings said this was the best place. I got there right before the lunch rush yesterday. I was able to ask questions about ingredients for my allergies and decided on getting the 90s club on sourdough subbing mayo for the special sauce and a small cup of the crab and corn chowder. Man, I wish I got a bigger cup of that soup! It was amazing! The 90s club was a good standard club. Definitely would get it again, but nothing out of the ordinary. read more

Fairly charming place just off the Charlottesville Mall, and a well conceived menu of soups, salads and sandwiches. We tried three soups, a salad and a sandwich. Salad and sandwich were a solid A, but the soups were not "revolutionary" but rather "pretty good" -- maybe B or B-. The loaded potato was not as flavorful as it should have been, and the peanut-tofu was too thick and gloopy. Fortunately our 3rd soup was a basic bone broth, which we mixed with the peanut-tofu, resulting in a solid A soup. Not much to say about the service -- you pick up your food at the counter. We will probably give them another try some time, but CV has lots of places we're more enthusiastic about. read more

Was here on business and found this place on yelp. I was a little irritated that the one sandwich I wanted was the only one that they would not do in the combo. Wow! If you love soup even a fraction of how much I love soup, you will LOVE this local soup joint! Their menu changes everyday and they make all of their delicious and unique soups from scratch! They have a little something to offer anyone from the beefy, chili-type, meat lover, to a light, vegan, veggie-lover! I already knew I wanted to try something I never had before but if you happen to be into more "traditional" flavor soups and styles they have you covered as well! Upon entering the tall, shabby-chic, storefront door, we walked down into a set of small steps which brought us down to the restaurants and eating areas! The walls were decorated with lost of nostalgic records, posters, art, as well as other interesting pieces of furniture. Just my style! I love all the downtown historic buildings and treat most of them as a little museum during my short time there! We proceeded to the ordering counter where I decided to order a choose two with the 90's Club and a side of the Creamy Edamame soup! My husband chose to also order the choose two but he opted for the Mozzarella and Pesto wrap with the Corn Chowder. The drinks are offered at the front by either choosing from the bottled drink section near the counter or the fountain beverages. I opted for just a coup for water this day as well as my husband. After ordering our food, we were given a number to wait and we found seating. The food was prepared quite quickly, maybe 4-5 minutes and came out hot and delicious! My creamy edamame soup had a very rich edamame, spinach flavor which I personally loved but I could see some thinking it may be salty. My 90's Club (pictured) was the highlight of my whole day! It was huge, the chicken was tender, avaocado was fresh, the sauces were perfect (enough to barely make it a little soggy... MY FAVORITE), and just all together felt deliciously guilty to eat! My sandwich was bigger than my husbands! As for his meal he really enjoyed it and anytime corn chowder is offered he get extremely excited! It had a really nice flavor and texture in my opinion. His mozzarella and pesto wrap was what seemed like the perfect light lunch snack to me. Wrapped nicely, fresh ingredients, vegetarian. I could. Probably eat at-least two of those! Overall I plan on going for the rest of my stay in Virginia and I'm excited to try more of the soup flavors and sandwich options! Really chill restaurant with friendly service and unique menu options. They seem to be influenced by Asian flavors (curry and miso soups), but also have regular American salads, sandwiches and even burgers. Their prices are fair for what you get. The food here is an in-between of a fine-dining restaurant and campus cafeteria. All ingredients except the burger beef patty was super fresh- the salad and soups are really good! I'm pretty much a regular here. I love that there are new specials popping up. A soup I can't stop thinking about was their Mardi Gras special - alligator bisque. I wasn't crazy about the texture of the gator, but the soup was really flavorful. Their loaded potato is always the bombdiggity comfort soup. Their Hungarian mushroom soup is so yummy and flavorful. Cool basement/lower level restaurant hangout spot. They call u up when ur food is ready u pick up at counter. This (Hipster) spot is very relaxing and music is hippy young old vibe. When I spent a week in C'ville my Airbnb host recommended I get lunch at Revolutionary Soup, now I know why. They had a great order ahead/curbside drop-off service and it was an excellent meal. The Kickin' Chicken was a fresh, well made hot wrap with roasted chicken, sauteed peppers and onions, and a really tasty chipotle mayo. The Loaded Potato Soup was solid, enjoyed the bacon toppings, and a nice hearty, creamy potato soup. If you find yourself downtown on the pedestrian mall you'll enjoy lunch in this back-alley shop. read more

This location is a super convenient place to grab an affordable, filling, and tasty meal. I was working in an office a short walk away during the summer of 2019, and came here several times to grab lunch (as well as twice to get dinner). The atmosphere is very laid-back and casual, and the menu is huge and varied. My favorite things on the menu were the ham & brie sandwich and the Adam's apple sandwich (I guess I'm a fan of the combination of cheese and fruit, haha). The summer I was there, they also had some unique gaspachos, including watermelon and golden beet, and had newly introduced the grain bowls. All their soups were really tasty; in particular, the peanut tofu soup (I believe this is a permanent fixture on the menu, while some other soups rotate out) was a favorite among my coworkers. Even one of my coworkers who hates tofu still loved that soup, describing it as "pad thai but a soup." The Pick Two combination is really good if you want both a sandwich/salad and a soup, but in reasonable quantities. I did a vegan week or two during my stay in Charlottesville, and Rev Soup had plenty of satisfactory options, including tofu options for sandwiches, the grain bowls (although some might require a few modifications), and the salads. Vegan/vegetarian options are clearly marked on the menus. I liked, but didn't really love, most of the vegan things I tried here (with the exception of the previously mentioned peanut tofu soup), but if you're getting a meal with a group of people, it's definitely nice that Rev Soup has a variety of solid options that accommodate dietary restrictions. One of my coworkers is gluten-free and never had trouble ordering here. read more

Rev Soup is a hole in the wall spot that can be easy to miss. I've walked past many times when visiting the Downtown Mall, and finally got the chance to stop in for food - and was not disappointed! The service was excellent, and from the start was greeted by a friendly employee who offered tasters of any of the soups to try. Their menu has a combo of classics but also many unique options, as well as gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options. I ended up getting a combo meal (small soup and half wrap or half salad), with the crab & corn chowder and the half Thai chicken wrap. For being half a wrap, the serving was generous and I ended up leaving full! The only downside of the meal was the side cornbread that was dense and pretty dry, but it was complimentary so I truly can't complain. read more

The three sister vegan soup is awesome. The grilled tofu sandwich, also vegan was delicious also. I loved that this cafe has so many vegan and vegetarian options. they even gave me a sample of one of their soups. My husband loved both the Buddha bowl and Farmer salad he got. There was something for everyone. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I also very grateful for very good bathroom accommodations. We hadn't been to Revolutionary Soup and years and had been to the other address. There is one Revolutionary Soup location now, offering between 10-20 homemade soups every day, along with salads and sandwiches. We were so glad we stopped here. I've been wanting to go to RS for awhile and finally got my chance yesterday at lunch. It was busy. There were about 5 customers ahead of us in the line, and most all of the tables were taken. My order of tarragon apple chicken salad and potato leek soup came up quickly. The salad was pretty good. Fresh. Good portion, but a bit expensive. I couldn't help but judge the soup against another potato leek soup I'd had last week, which was infinitely better. This one had a thicker consistency and unfortuantely tasted like it was burned. My friend got a Thai Wrap and said it was good, but that she'd ask for more peanut sauce next time. My brother went on New Year's Eve and said the soup was awful and even the grilled cheese was bad. Popular and almost always busy, you can still get in and out of revolutionary soup quickly and at a reasonable cost. The menu rotates pretty frequently, but this is where you get some yummy comfort soup, salads and sandwiches. I haven't tried any salads but the soups and sandwiches have all been great. The basic grilled chz wont blow anyones mind but scratches the itch and has upgrades if so desired. I've had the curry soup, beer soup, and potato soup and all were hot and tasty. The cup of soup comes with a generous chunk of fresh bread. I like all of the local advertisements on the walls as you walk in as well as the chalk board poetry they always have up. I. Love. Rev. Soup!!!! First and foremost, soup is underrated. There is something special about a nice bowl of soup during the colder seasons. For me, Rev Soup really hit the spot in the Fall and Winter when i was running errands to or going to and from class. The soup always comes hot and ready to be devoured. My personal favorites are the peanut tofu soup (so so so good!) and the crab and corn chowder. Some soups are rotated in and out depending on the season. If you're not feeling a soup. there is also a selection of yummy sandwiches to choose from. My favorite, Adam's Apple, is a good combination of sweet and savory in a sandwich. The grilled cheeses are just average, but there are many other delicious options on the menu. This place is very unique. It has a homey atmosphere, and to me, it's quintessential Charlottesville.
