My first mistake was not doing my own research and consulting with an actual oral surgeon, as Dr. Morehead has a DDS in general dentistry. 5 years and 7 months later, I still cannot feel the left side of my tongue. I consulted an oral surgeon and they let me know before they could even see me that there was nothing they could do because it had been too long since the injury. What an emotional rollercoaster this has been. If I had been informed to see an oral surgeon sooner, I would have. I only had one follow up appointment after the surgery and the doctor said it would come back. It never did. They will not advocate for you. Do not make the same mistake I did. Consult an oral surgeon elsewhere for your wisdom teeth removal.

After the last few experiences/visits with them, I just felt there had to be better service than this somewhere else. From the very beginning, the front desk receptionist was very personable. She asked me how my Christmas and New Years was and we all know when we go to any kind of DR.'s appt, rarely do you hear the receptionist try to have any sort of conversation with you. It was very nice and a very great first impression overall already. After being called back to the room, the assistant was very informative to what she would be doing and how she was going to do it. I was extremely impressed with the x-ray process! Other Dental offices I've been too just want to quickly take the x-rays and be done with it. (I usually end up with cuts in my mouth when that happens) This assistant took her time and was very gentle about the entire process, along with having conversation while doing so. Everything from the Front Desk greeting, Dr.'s Assistant, the DR. himself, and Hygienist was just fantastic! Being new-ish to San Antonio, it's been years (Yike!) since my last check up and cleaning and having settled in to our new home, it was time to select a practice near our home. There are so many options on Potranco and more dental offices pop up every 6 months or so as the community continues to grow. Schuchart popped up right at the entrance of my community, Arcadia Ridge. I can literally walk there in 10 mins. I'd seen this dental office on social media and love the aesthetic of the outside. The photos of the inside I've seen was just as impressive. The husband-wife team of dentists are young and family oriented. I knew I'd found my place! GETTING IN: scheduling an appointment was so easy. The gal I spoke to was very professional and friendly and we easily coordinated a date and time for my initial visit. I show up on the day of my visit very excited. Giddy, even. Let's get these teeth in tip-top shape! Check in was simple and I glance around the large waiting area. Portraits of the dentists and their child are framed and mounted on the wall, along with licenses and certificates. I love the ambiance, still smells brand new, lighting is comfortable and every surface is clean. There's what I can only guess is a child's play room, but I'm not 100% sure. THE TEAM: I have to say, the treatment team in back are awesome. Down to earth and really fun, actually. We shared quite a few laughs in conversation. The equipment is state of the art, so easy for my X-ray results and explanation of my dental health to be broken down simply for me on a screen. I required some repair and the doctor patched me up quick. Overall, I am very happy having trusted my gut with this new practice and I'm sure you can guess I can't wait for my next cleaning. I visited in November and was charged upfront because they were unsure if my insurance would cover the services. I happily paid. My insurance did indeed cover the service except the oral exam and the insurance and dentist agreed to a contracted amount. The dentist refuses to honor the contracted amount and only offered a partial refund. Their reasoning is insurance didn't cover it anyways so we are going to charge you the full amount and not the contracted amount we agreed upon with your insurance. Stephanie was combative and said she would call me back for a refund in two weeks. I had to call back multiple times letting them know that insurance has paid them and they owe me a refund yet they only provided a partial. My dental insurance company called them as well to advise they should not be charging the full amount and should be charging the contract amount but they disagreed and refused to refund me. They continued arguing with the insurance as well. At this point my insurance is filing a complaint. This is unfortunate because I really liked the dentist but the fact that I called, my insurance company called, and they do not know how to bill properly is fraudulent. There are so many other great dentist in this area go to don't bother with this place. Look at their google reviews there are others that have complained about the same thing. Look at your explanation of benefits because this dentist is pocketing the money.

I had a root canal that was not at all as I remembered them, and that was a major relief! This endo and his assistant (Monty and Dr. Galvan) were competent and trustworthy. I noticed that the front office was run well, too, and it just felt so much better than where I had been going. I made the switch right then. On subsequent visits, I met with the best dentist I have had in a long time, Dr. Christine Derosa. She is competent, personable, and she looked out for my finances while doing the right thing clinically. What a departure from my previous dentist office. She frequently talked over me and cut me off before I could finish my questions or receive clear answers. That kind of interaction is frustrating and not what you expect from someone running the front office of a dental practice. There was also a communication issue during the appointment. The hygienist was not informed that I was receiving orthodontic treatment, so the cleaning was started without removing the braces first, which should have been addressed beforehand. That said, the back office staff was great. The hygienist was very informative and took time to educate me on proper care and how often certain treatments should be done. The doctor and orthodontic staff were also excellent--professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant. Overall, the clinical care itself was solid, but the front office experience and communication need improvement, as they set the tone for the entire visit.
