Kafe Mamai is a fresh taste of the Caribbean as well as African cuisine. Not only are the flavors and colors of the food fun, the decor inside is bright and cheerful. I enjoyed my food and the other folks in my dining party said they did as well. Although one person said it could have used a bit more salt. Service was subdued, but adequate. I think it would be cool to expand the space to host cultural events and/or sell handmade goods to further tell the story of the culture that it represents. Perhaps that's in the works for the future.

Killer Afro-Caribbean food and drinks in a cozy and cute space! I had the curry goat stew and it was a very generous portion, served with coconut rice and fried plantains. The goat was tender and the sauce was packed with flavor with the perfect level of spiciness. The beef sambusas were crispy and the filling was seasoned well. The sauce is also delicious not sure how to describe the flavor, maybe like a bright, creamy curry sauce.

Everything I had here was awesome. I ordered a mix of beef and vegetable sambusas. Wow. Great way to start out an excellent dining experience. The mango dip was perfect. Followed it up with the main meal, grilled jerk chicken platter. The chicken falls right off the bone. It had the absolute best level of spice, where it cleared out my sinuses and I just kept going back for more. The plantains were exceptional, and a nice complement to the chicken, giving some sweetness to that spice. The portions were huge. I didn't finish, and I went in hungry. The prices, in my opinion, were a pretty good value. And the service was top notch as well. The place is kinda hard to find, but well worth it. I highly recommend.

This place is UNREAL. My foodie friend and I had been eyeing this place for a while before finally finding the time to come here together. We came on a Friday night, and will now make this a tradition. Firstly, the service is so fast and nice. The woman who served us was friendly, efficient, refilled our water very quickly, and provided exactly the type of service we needed in a time crunch. The food also took only around 5 minutes to be made, after we ordered. The ambiance is definitely casual, but the restaurant is spacious enough for many groups and the place is clean. It's straightforward and no-frills. There is cool art hanging on the walls. It's very laid-back and you can either be served as true dine-in sit-down or order to-go. I love the convenience and flexibility. Last but not least, the food. OMG the food was SO insanely good! We came with high expectations due to the very good reviews, but our minds were still blown. We both got the Surf and Turf and the flavors were absolutely divine. It was not overly salty but was simply really flavorful-- truly the opposite of bland food. The portions were very generous so we both got to-go containers to take food home for another meal. We also both really enjoyed the sweet plantains served with the meal. It was so perfect. We also both appreciated the fact that they put orange slices on the water glasses. My friend and I both couldn't believe just how perfect our meal was. We are going to be coming back again and again-- we will make this a tradition! I truly cannot wait to try more things in the menu, but gosh it will be hard to prevent myself from ordering the surf and turf every time because it's so delicious. Bravo, Kafe' Mamai!!!

I really loved my Kafe Mamai experience! The space is very quant and the staff members are lovely. Our server was very patient with us as my friend and I were trying to figure out what we wanted. I ultimately decided on the jerk chicken sandwich, which also comes with potatoe and sweet potatoe fries. The jerk chicken was very tender, juicy, and packed full of flavor. The pita was perfectly soft and pillowy and didn't break under the weight and sauce of the chicken. I loved that it had a tiny bit of a spicy kick, but my only wish was for there to be a little bit more greens because some bites were full pita and chicken. The fries were also seasoned with this cumin powder which gave it an interesting taste profile. As the night progressed the space grew more full, so it's definitely a popular spot. Overall, super delicious and I would definitely come here again!

Large portions, fantastic flavors! Tried the oxtail and lamb skewers-both of which were flavorful and very tender. Small restaurant with good, quick service. Would recommend if looking to try out a new cuisine!

Wow. Oh my god, WOW! African and Caribbean fusion? Done deal. This place is on the smaller side, it's about 10 - 12 tables, but right in the middle of a great shopping area so it's perfect for a stop while out and about. There was one waitress working the tables so be patient, but she was very attentive and kind. She was timely and helpful with helping us decide on what to order as this was my family's first time here. The food is reasonably priced and AMAZING. It was so difficult to find something to settle on for the visit but that alone is a great reason to come back! I ended up settling on the green mango curry and it blew me away. The maembe dessert is tropical and PHENOMENAL. Everything I tried here was so delicious and filling. Please stop by and give this place a try!! ***Tip for jerk flavor lovers: the jerk here is flavorful but NOT spicy. It will build gradually the more you eat, and you can taste the spices, but it is not highly spicy.

Great West African food, and I finally got to try fufu that I didn't make! You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find in California. Everything was flavorful, and we had plenty of food to go around. There was just one person handling orders and service. Despite the wait, they were friendly and made sure we had what we needed. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, with colorful decor that created a warm, lively vibe. It really felt like a family-run spot, perfect for enjoying a good meal at a relaxed pace. Definitely worth trying again!

Cool vibes and in a walkable location! Everything was good...but I was a little disappointed when the plates came out. I wish the plates came WITH some vegetable sides on the plate to make the meal more balanced (and make the plating a little prettier). It was a bit heavy just eating the proteins with rice (the portion was pretty big). Not my favorite curry goat I've had...it was just too salty imo....The jerk chicken was really good though!! Chicken was tender and a good balance of flavors! If I come back I want to try the burgers, because they looked good! Service was also a little slow; parties that got seated 20 mins after us got their food at the same time as us. Overall, 4 stars for the authenticity, uniqueness, and vibes of this restaurant!

This restaurant is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Salt Lake. Firstly because they offer Halal food and it's extremely delicious. Secondly, because it's a unique cuisine that you can't really find many places in Salt Lake. And finally, the owner is one of the nicest men I've ever met. I highly recommend trying the surf and turf platter and their jerk chicken sandwich. For dessert you can definitely not go wrong with some plantain ice cream. Also, I love the decoration and the ambience inside of the restaurant.

Those pictures posted to their Google Maps are old and don't show it either, apart from some mentions on a marker board. The setting is good and the service is friendly and patient. I had not had Nicaraguan food before and while it has some elements of other Latin cuisines, I benefited from descriptions and recommendations from the host. I settled on a Fritanga, which was a massive plate of beans and rice, grilled pork, grilled steak, plantain chips, half of a soft plantain, a slaw, and came with fried cheese. I got a small, and now have some nice leftovers. On the side I got some boiled cassava "yuca mojo" which had a tasty sauce and was topped with onions. I have had fried but this was my first time with boiled. With a little salt this was very good. Everything in the Fritanga was delicious. It came with a couple of sauces. I found that the creamy mayonnaise-like sauce went well with the grilled pork, and the pickle-y sauce went well with the steak. I would have liked to have had more of each of these. The fried cheese is just that. No extra ingredients, just some oil to fry it. Not sure what kind of cheese. It came off a bit salty. As I was asking for boxes to take all my leftovers home, the host offered me a piece of Tres Leches Cake. This is light and delicious with a nice cream on top. Very nice of them to offer. I wish I had taken a picture of the menu. There are many other Nicaraguan offerings that sound good. A great meal and enough for another!
