While visiting a loved one's nursing home, I visited this wonderful shop to help out a family member. I am so glad I did because it was an oasis of kindness and smiles. I'm not a coffee drinker, yet KaffeGeita had such a good vibe. I bought a roasted iced coffee for my partner and browsed this place. It's less than a mile west of the 35 and equipped with a drive-thru option. There are lots of pastries and sandwiches, WiFi for interior seating, and super cool T-shirts. There are many nursing homes and elderly people living in Story City, and if you need a place loaded with kindness to get away for a little bit, this is the place. read more

One of my coworkers (a fellow nurse- we love coffee) had recommended the spot. The drive thru service is fast, friendly. I really appreciated that the employee working the drive thru offered suggestions of latte flavors. The list on the window was a bit hard to read as the front was not large enough. I had a ginger bread latte, which was just right & not overly sweet. It was packed for a late morning on a Tuesday so that speaks highly. My coworker spoke highly of the avocado toast so I plan to return & try it!! Great little spot overall. read more

What a neat little coffee shop! Pretty close to the highway, you can easily pull into Kaffe Geita to get yourself some coffee. If you feel like sitting down, their interior is nice with lots of seating at tables. They also offer a drive-through if you're in a hurry. They have a unisex bathroom on the interior for any rest stop needs. Kaffe Geita offers lots of coffee options. Not only do they have frappe-type drinks, but they also have warm drinks as well as cold drinks. Some of their "specialty" drinks have goat names for a cute goat-like addition. They have goat's milk bath products in the bathroom. The interior has cute goat pictures and decor on the inside. It definitely has that adorable "small, hipster coffee shop" interior while still retaining a themed interior. We had a "Scape Goat" (vanilla & cinnamon), and it was surprisingly close to a Pumpkin Spice latte. Like, if you want a PSL year-round, this one is super duper close. My partner had a Lemon Cheesecake Frappe, and that was surprisingly different. It definitely had the Lemon taste to it, and it had a cheesecake tart taste, but they also seemed to add a lot of sweetness. It might have been a good food, but it didn't make that amazing of a coffee drink. Definitely wouldn't get that one again. Would enjoy getting the "Scape Goat" again, though. The staff was pretty friendly too. Some of them were dressed in legitimate pajamas (silk pants and all), but they seemed really friendly and laid-back. They were happy to wait around while we tried to figure out what to order. Service was insanely quick. We went in, I went to go pee, and both drinks were done by the time I was done in the bathroom. No time spent waiting around. Pricing is pretty standard on gourmet coffees. Expect to spend $3.50 to $5 per coffee drink. I would definitely come back. It was good coffee, has a simple drive-through, and I enjoyed being able to support a small business. read more

First off, the barista that helped me was a glowing curly haired goddess with round glasses. She describes all of the specialty drinks with such passion on this overcast Saturday morning. You could taste the love jn the coffee. If you are traveling between Minneapolis and Des Moines on I-35 this is the place to stop for a coffee and a treat. It is a cute Scandinavian goat themed shop with lots of artisan coffee and Italian soda choices, about a minute (or less) off the interstate. Our travelers had a Sumatran fresh brewed coffee, a hot Caramel Nanny, an iced Milk Maid, and a raspberry Italian soda. All the beverages were hits. The raspberry Italian soda was "the best" he ever had and the iced Milk Maid was like a caffeine infused milk dud. The Caramel Nanny was full rich chocolate yummy-ness. Also got a bag of mini cinnamon chip scones and they were cinnamon-filled and freshly soft. The bathroom was also very clean and nicely decorated. It's a true original and WELL WORTH getting off the interstate for. Dont get convenience store coffee when this place is JUST AS CONVENIENT and 100x better. read more

Nice place and nice staff. The coffee was a-ok, the breakfast sandwich could have been a little livelier (maybe microwaved?). I saw others with scones and wish we would have gone in that direction. The smoothie was a hit for the younger set, especially with that huge mound of whipping cream. We will go again when we are in need of a stop off of I35, but they could do better and I hope they do since the location/staff/atmosphere are all tops! read more

This is a fantastic coffee shop. It definitely has the small rural town feel, but with the knowledge and understanding that you come to expect from coffee shops in Seattle. It is really nice to find a coffee shop with not only great products, but friendly baristas in such a rural area. Their Turkey Panini is amazing. I would also highly recommend the Coffee Cake Muffin. Great mom & pop owned and operated coffee shop located just off of I-35 in Story City. I've been a regular consumer of their PB Lattes, but have sampled some of their Signature coffees and their chai. All have been superb and crafted witha friendly personal touch. Coffee is served in some really "handy" grippy cups. Currently DGCC is only serving through their drive-thru. They also offer hot and prepared oatmeal ready to eat on to the go. Great coffee for Story City locals and for I-35 travelers who are looking for something with a little more panache than what can be found at the fast-food places nearby. Everyone who grows up to like coffee has started somewhere like here. When you start drinking coffee, you flood it with cream and sugar or water it down: anything to mask the flavor. This is a café for people who are starting to get into coffee to go to pat each other on the back for being "cool." Since it is a self-proclaimed "coffee company," I am basing my rating solely on the quality of their coffee. It should perhaps be called a "café" or "restaurant" or "bistro" instead, as the staff and building were welcoming and other reviewers say good things about their food. I happened by here the other day, intrigued by the name's reference to the apocryphal discovery of coffee and the shop's high (albeit with low statistics) Yelp rating. Because I've had far too many bad espressos, I always test a shop's abilities by ordering a mocha first. A well-made mocha can make a bad espresso shot tolerable. By definition, a mocha is an espresso drink. Chocolate, espresso, milk. It's hard to go wrong. Dancing Goat managed to. They don't even use espresso in their espresso beverages: mine was made with cold press coffee. As if that weren't bad enough, the mocha was so saccharine as to be undrinkable. It tasted neither like chocolate nor coffee, just sweet. That kind of sweet that stabs you in the cheek, that makes you throw out the rest of the beverage and drive twenty minutes to a real coffee shop to get the taste out of your mouth. I saw no roaster, and the bags of roasted beans had a logo from somewhere else, so it does not seem like the beans are roasted in shop. A strange choice, given the name. Even so, I asked to taste the brewed coffee ordered by a member of my party. "Mild" would be an understatement: it was flavorless and watery. Maybe it just happened to be an off day. But a "coffee company" should pride itself on never having off days, and the cold-press-mocha travesty is unforgivable. If you are just starting out and don't actually like the taste of coffee, you'd probably enjoy this place. Otherwise, skip it and drive the extra distance to Ames instead. read more

Cute little shop, with a drive through. The building used to be a bank. I'm from California visiting some family and stopped by looking for a quality local coffee shop. We had a peanut butter mocha, a cinnamon-vanilla latte and an americano. We all thought the espresso was very good quality. They have a large selection of preselected coffee choices on the menu and PLENTY of syrup flavors if you want to make your own concoction. We didn't try the pastries but they looked good! Stopped in here on my way back to Minneapolis last weekend after seeing a billboard on I-35. Was looking for some good coffee and figured this would hit the spot. Pulled off the interstate and arrived at Kaffe Geita (1463 Broad, Story City). I was told this place used to be called "The Dancing Goat" or something like that and then found out that "Geita" is a Norwegian word meaning "goat," so that all makes sense. I won't go into a lot of details about this place, but overall, I liked it. The coffee was really good, not too weak and not burned like what you'd find at Starbucks. I had a caramel latte which was made quickly and just the way I'd like to have it. I grabbed a blueberry scone to go as well and was pleased that is was fresh and tasty. You just never know what you're getting when you get a pastry at a coffee shop. The baristas were genuinely friendly. The place is a nice, cozy little place that looks like it used to be a bank. Overall, this is a quaint little coffee shop in a small town that should be successful for many years to come. As long as they keep being friendly and serving up really good, hot coffee the word about this place will get around. I'll be back again! read more

CITY WORTHY COFFEE IN THE COUNTRY This little place is well worth the two or three minute detour off I-35. We had a sandwich and some soup and both seemed homemade. Very extensive sandwich selection and some nice baked goods. Good selection of coffee either brewed or custom pour-overs (which I did not expect to find). I am sure the espresso drinks are fine, but I am not into those. The girls at the counter are friendly and capable, and cute to boot. A very nice espresso cafe, I stop by when in Story City and haven't been disappointed, well with the exception that they apparently only have peppermint flavor in the winter, which they say is the season for it, I guess my taste buds don't concur since my favorite drink is peppermint mocha year round, doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to have a bottle year round, I bring my bottle with and add my own. read more

Kaffee Geita is located just off I-35. It offers a nice selection of drink and food options. I stop frequently and have always found the staff to be welcoming and open to special requests if it is something they can provide. I particularly enjoy the chicken salad croissant and southern pecan coffee. The delicious homemade soups are always a treat when the weather is cooler. There is a small area for inside seating, a nice outdoor patio, and drive-through window. Service is a little slow if there are many cars at the drive through but it is definitely worth the wait. It is great to find some fresh-made healthy choices rather than the offerings at fast food entities. read more
