Such a cute underground coffee shop! The owner pays attention to every customer and has a conversation which gives the cafe a special charm. The beans are super good, and most of the syrups are pretty good! I like to go study there or meet friends!

The Cafe Mocha and breakfast burrito really hit the spot! They have pretty reasonably priced records too.

Has it been vacuumed in the last 10 years? Who cares? Does he have the best collection of vintage rock, heavy metal, and country in Des Moines? Absolutely. The owner is quiet and leaves you be. The music he plays is low-key and innocuous, alienating no one. His prices are just right: $30-50 bucks for most original pressings in good shape, and very rare ones are $100ish. If he charged less there'd be nothing to look at here. It's like a great guitar shop - you go there partially just to look at all the cool stuff. The new vinyl record stores are fake -everything they carry is was made from a digital master; just a vinyl version of a CD. All the other old record shops have a lousy collection and completely arbitrary prices. This place is totally legit.

He know's what it's worth. But with that comes a knowledge of whats great to stock and he always have killer new records coming in.. He will also cut you a deal if you are going to purchase 4-5 records at a time. Red Rooster does not really stock new releases or local stuff, so if your looking for the new Arcade Fire LP this is not your stop, but if your looking for that rare Zappa record to fill up your collection this might be your best stop in town.

That was before July 9th, 2026. I walk in with my friend, looking at records, the guy working there asks when I was there last, standard practice for this establishment. I say about two weeks ago, when they had a minifridge with monster energy drinks inside, which the nice woman working there last time had said were free. I look around, don't really find anything that I had been looking for, (which is rare at vinyl cup) and then ask the person now working there if they still have monster. He looked like he was finishing a conversation with a customer, which in hindsight I should have waited a bit. He asks, "I'm in the middle of something, what was that?" I respond, do you guys have monster? He says, "does it look like we have monster?" "No." I reply, to which he says, "then we don't. You just want free monster, don't you?" I say, "No, I was looking" but the man cuts me off, saying, "Bullsh-" (you know the rest). I say quietly to my friend, "I think we should go." The employee overhears and says, "yeah, and maybe don't come back." I've long supported this store and usually find the records I like. I do like this store and what it offers to the community, but this worker being hired, (first time I'd seen him working there by the way) really makes me like the place a bit less and lose some trust. Looking back, seeing two teenagers walk into your store and ask about free monster may seem annoying, but I frequent that place. I'm not saying the worker should know who I am, but I find it sad at the end of the day that employees are driving me out of a store I love so much. During fall fest 2025 I bought one of the first hats you guys started selling. I have been on the text list since November 2024. I love vinyl cup. That's why having an encounter like this at such a store is so saddening to me.
