I stayed at the Kahler Inn & Suites in Rochester Minnesota, July 28 - July 31st. Prior to my arrival I hadn't read any reviews, nor was I the one who made the booking. This hotel is located in the center of town, you can easily access plenty of restaurants, several churches, the world renowned Mayo Clinic, convince stores, all by a short walk. The outside look was not impressive. The Kahler Grand Hotel, is the sister hotel, it can be seen from every window towering over every building. This is not the case with the Kahler Inn. The inside is connected to Caribou Coffee, there is a small lobby with a tv and some couches. At the front desk the representative wasn't very professional looking or friendly, but they did their job. There is no continental breakfast included with your stay. We took the elevator to the 8th floor, room 830. The hallways looked clean, but very, very ordinary and basic, without a single plant or a picture anywhere in sight. Our room was a nice size with two queen sized beds. Each bed had three pillows. The linens weren't as smooth as they should be. The room was carpeted but there was no odor. There's a nice sized flat screen tv, a coffee maker, hairdryer, iron, and ironing board, fridge and microwave. I struggled to find an outlet. I eventually found an extension outlet behind the dresser. The towels provided were very thin and worn looking. The water pressure in the sink was very low. The shower head was pretty low, and it was not detachable. I'm 5"7 and it was difficult for me to shower. My guest was 6"3, he extra struggled. The beds were pretty comfortable. I slept very well. We never received any housekeeping services during our stay. On the first morning, while I was still in bed, the housekeeper let herself in. I asked her if she could come later. She said "ok", but she never did. This was a below average hotel. They could easily make some small adjustments to make this a much more pleasant stay for their guests. read more

The staff was rude and unhelpful to us and others we observed. The place smelled of cigarette smoke. The carpeting in the hallways and room was filthy. This hotel seems to have been designed in the 1960s and not updated much since. Horrible, dangerous parking garage. It is --or should be -- a code violation. Even though the info they give at check in says daily housekeeping, you actually have to request it but no one - front desk, hotel operator, or housekeeping - answers the phone. Front desk staff was pretty rude. We had to twice empty the garbage from our room. The room was comfortable enough looked like it hadn't been upgraded in 30 years. Front desk gave my room which I had already paid for to someone else prior to my arrival and allowed this person to check in and charged my card on file. I had to wait to check in for over 30 minutes until the person in my room came down and switched out his credit card for mine. Then the replacement room I was given was occupied when I tried to enter the room. I then was given a room with two regular beds when I paid for two queen beds. Lobby was dirty as well. A friend & I stayed there for 2 nights Aug 2025, for a Mayo Clinic visit. The hotel was just ok, & appeared outdated. The reason I am writing a review, though, is to warn anyone who is mobility disabled to be cautious when booking a room. We are both disabled, & I am in a power chair. We were in a mobility accessible room with a roll-in shower. The only grab bars by the toilet were behind the toilet (not helpful to women at all). No grab bars at all in the shower, & a freestanding shower bench that was not suctioned to the floor. The only safe way to use the bench was to have it backed up to the wall. The entire bathroom flooded when the shower was used. This was extremely unsafe for anyone who is disabled. The elevated toilet seat they gave us to use was wobbly, & had a bolt sticking out the front that your clothes caught on. If you are mobility disabled, I would recommend closely looking at pictures of the actual room you're booking to see if it will be safe for you. There was also no chair in the room to sit in aside from the rolling desk chair. Long lines at the desk whenever you needed something. We had requested a set of towels be brought up to the room, but they were never delivered. We ended up waiting in the long line again to put in a second request. Prior to being in this room, we were placed in a room that was supposed to be mobility accessible & had one bed & a pull-out sofa. Once the sofa was pulled out, though, it made the room completely inaccessible to the bathroom. There was barely room for a walking person to go past the bed to the other side of the room, where the bathroom was. A wheelchair could not pass at all. I would caution anyone booking this room--if you need a mobility accessible room, this room is NOT accessible. I won't stay at this hotel again, and I would definitely not recommend it to anyone with mobility issues. read more

Had a follow up appointment, traveled from out of state. The room we were given to stay in was not guest worthy and should be out of commission. I understand there are supposed to be two options of stay! However, the condition of the room we stayed in was worse than a 1star MOTEL. i have written several reviews of this hotel. I have a few more thoughts regarding my stay, but can't seem to post it on the websit. I was a guest at the hotel while having medical appointments. During my stay, I left my purse in the restaurant. When I retrieved it, all the money....$400.00...was gone. My question is this: The footage shows the waitress finding my bag. She retrieves it and places it at the end of the bar. Why didn't she turn it in to the desk? It must have remained there until some observer picked it up. i was told the purse was found on a trash can by the elevator. i have further appointments at Mayo. i live in NM, so need to secure accommodations. Kahler's location would be best for me....my age and certain limitations...but having such a negative experienc, will stay elsewhere. read more

I came with my parents to Rochester because my mom had appointments at the Mayo Clinic. For a hotel that is so close to this clinic one would think it would be cleaner, have friendly people working there and a restaurant that is up and running. We checked in and there was hair in the bathroom, a bug on one of the beds, the toilet seat was not one for that toilet as it didn't fit right, and the telephone in in room didn't work. Foe this being so close to the Mayo Clinic you would think nothing but the best...that is far from the truth. I will not recommend this hotel or would stay in this hotel again. read more

Stayed here while being treated at Mayo Clinic. Very easy to get to where I needed go at the Clinic. Room had a comfortable modern layout and granite countertops everywhere. That said, the carpet and upholstery were worn and very stained. Furniture was scratched and dinged. Common hallways were UNCONCSIONABLLY FILTHY, thoroughly disgusting!! Ice machine on my floor was out of service & other guest in elevator said they had no hot water during their first night's stay. 24/7 Fox News in lobby a HUGE turn off. Awful. The pretty pool they have a photo of is only 3 ft deep. Their exercise room isn't a room at all and includes 4 treadmills and 2 elliptical machines. There are no ammenities. The tvs are from the early 2000s. The teenage front desk staff were polite but couldn't offer many answers to questions we had. At one point, the two ladies manning the desk were both in Jimmy John's at the same time. The vending machines did not work. I never saw a gift shop. The sprinkler system in the hallway was coming down. The carpets in the room and out in the hall are filthy. The shower head in our room didn't stay in its holder. You had to hang on to it the entire time. $15 for parking daily? Very disappointed and will not recommend to anyone. There is no complimentary breakfast. read more

Excellent location. That being said, the room was spartan and well worn. Pillows were like sandbags and sheets weren't long enough to fit the bed, therefore they didn't stay on. Toilet had to be flushed several times to empty waste, and the bathroom light was combined with the fan - which was so loud that you were afraid of waking people in the surrounding rooms if you went to the bathroom during the night. I stayed at Kahler Inn August 1, 2024 as it was close to Mayo Clinic. The toilet in my room did not flush. I called the front desk about 9ish and was informed maintenance is not available at night. The next morning the front desk had no record of my call and I was offered the choice to move to another room. Thank you but no thank you. That is not tit-for-tat choice. A toilet in a hotel should always work. Additionally the fixtures and overall quality of the hotel is very outdated. Beware. You get what you pay for. read more

Stayed due to testing at Mayo Clinic. Room was decent. There was dust on the night stand and radio. It appeared to not have been cleaned in several weeks. Bathroom also was not as clean as I would like. The hot water was only Luke warm making the shower less then desirable. The subway level to Mayo was a great feature. It was a bit unnerving having a stranger with a key enter our hotel room while we were in it. Twice.

We actually would rate this place a 3.5, but that's not allowed. Note: This is a Marriott property. We stayed here in September 2018 for a week to visit the Mayo Clinic. Many of the other hotels seems too pricey, so we chose the Kahler Inn and Suites. It was a good value for our money. This is an older hotel and does have a slight "old" smell when you enter the room, but we didn't notice it after we were in the room for a few minutes. It's kind of like the older hotels on the downtown strip in Las Vegas. We stayed on the top floor (9th) and paid a little extra for the "suite." Since we would be here for 5 days, we wanted a little extra room. It came with a couch, small table with two chairs, a microwave and small refrigerator. The bed was very comfortable and sheets were soft. We had a nice shower. The towels will good size and soft. The room was pretty clean. We had a window that opened slightly so we could get fresh air when we wanted a break from the a/c. The pool looked nice. They have an exercise with some treadmill machines. The breakfast was average for these types of places. They had cereal, juice, waffles, eggs (instant?), sausage and tater tots. They had yogurt and (real) oatmeal which is what we mostly had every day. I'm a facilities manager and as I walked past the housekeeper's rolling cart, everything looked in good order including a clean feather duster. Yes, the carpets could be cleaner, but that seems to be an issue at many hotels. The proximity to the Mayo Clinic via the subway tunnels is really awesome. We could be at our appointments in 6 minutes (we are fast walkers). Parking is tight in the structure, but luckily, we had a regular size car. I'm glad we didn't have an SUV. Parking costs an additional $12 per day. They have a program where you get $5 back for every day that you don't need housekeeping. We participated in the program. The staff was very nice from the front desk, to the breakfast to the housekeepers. Our room was missing the hair dryer. I called and one was brought up within 10 minutes. We would stay here again. read more

The location is very convenient for Mayo with underground tunnel access to the clinic and the parking garage. Otherwise it has very basic accomodations and is completely worn down. No attention to upkeep. The room didn't feel dirty, but was beat up. Same with carpets and walls throughout the property. Location has kept it on life support. read more

I know this hotel can get a lot of customers , because of the big hospital existence.So, hotel owner doesn't need to be worry about getting customers, I think. But I would expect higher quality for the price. I hope this hotel owner makes effort and makes this hotel develop better. Rude ppl! No amenities even tho it's owned by same ppl. First I was told it was a decision made by owner then they said due to CDC was the reason. So the amenities were at the other hotel but we wasn't allowed the amenities at the other location. The mini suite appeared to be from the late 80's. Low water pressure and it took a while before the water got hot enough for a shower. The refrigerator had no freezer area so my ice packs for my insulin needles were completely melted. Sleep in your car instead. 1) It was advertised that it had a refrigerator in the room so we could store my wife's meds. In reality, the fridge didn't work. Called the front desk and she (Ms. Dominica) dispatched the maintenance person to the wrong room. An hour later went down to ask Ms Dominica why no-one had come yet... she admitted her mistake and said she'd have someone come up. An hour later the fridge still didn't work. Down to the lobby again and was rudely told by her in a very condescending voice that we would have to wait until tomorrow when a maintenance person came to work. 2) Instead of booking the $104 rate without parking, we booked the "special" rate for Mayo patients of $125 which includes parking . When we arrived, we discovered alacarte parking was $15. Ms. Dominica (again) told us that paying the $104 rate plus $15 parking was more expensive than paying the $125 "special" rate. Huh? Shame on the school she went to. So they extract $6 more for the "special" rate. 3) The website clearly said a complimentary breakfast came with the room. Come to find out, their is no restaurant and there is no breakfast. Ms. Dominica (again) said "complimentary" doesn't mean it's free with the room. So Kahler Inn... if not included with the room, just exactly what does it mean?? 4) The coffeemaker doesn't work because there's no place to plug it in. Ms. Dominica (again) said we could physically move the refrigerator out to access the wall plug behind it and then unplug the refidgerator to make a spot to plug the coffee maker into. Oh brother... DYI hotel room. 5) There was enough cofffee packets provided to brew 1 cup of regular and 1 cup of decaf. Can you get any chintzyer Kahler? Kleenex tissues container was empty. 5) The desk chair was broken. I sat down in it and it dumped me onto the floor. Kahler Inn must be banking on the fact there's a hospital right across the street. 6) Smelly and filthy. The clock was even 6 hours off. What a dive. read more

Had an interview and stayed here for the night. Got in around 10:30 pm and left in the morning around 8am. I got a complimentary room upgrade and the suite I was in was really nice and spacious. I definitely recommend staying at this hotel! Complementary breakfast was delicious and generous. (Waffles, egg, sausage, yogurt, muffins, and more) A little noisy outside early in the morning and pillows weren't great but those are my only complaints. Would stay here again in a heartbeat! read more

It's comfortable, but I was disappointed at how old everything looks. There are these old school showers, public restroom toilets, loud fans, and old bedding. There was mold on the shower head, which was really disgusting. I talked to other students who were housed at the hotel, and we've all had a weird problem with the AC. I turned up the thermostat to 80 degrees, and it was still freezing. Other people had cooling on to 60 degrees and it was super hot. There wasn't consistency with the air. I also left a note for more lotion since the heating dries out my skin, and since I asked for more on day 1 because 1 tube wasn't enough, they refused to give me one the next day. I had to go down to the reception desk to get more. The reception desk people were really nice and helpful. My card got demagnetized 4 times during my visit (which was annoying) but they were really personable. It's a convenient place to get to Mayo, since there's an underground subway connecting the buildings so you don't have to talk in the cold. The breakfast was subpar, but free. Bacon comes out late but they have sausage ready pretty fast. They also have really good chocolate cookie waffles! read more

Our bathroom tub had the stopper in it. When it was drained, pubic hair was on the bottom of tub. Asked front desk to get it cleaned up and no one came. The corners were full of dirt under bathroom sink. There were blue stains on carpet. The public bathroom on main floor had both toilets clogged and not cleaned. read more

The staff was very helpful and nice... the room, oh boy. It was clean, standard faire, but the walls and windows paper thin. Every car that went past was very audible, and I was on 7th floor. TV from next door, again, very audible. The faucet in the tub popped from the wall when I pulled the lever to have a shower. The staff did offer a different room, but it was getting late and I already had things unpacked so I politely declined and tried getting some sleep... which very little was had (see above). Other than the convenient proximity to Mayo Clinic, there is absolutely no reason to stay here! The hotel is filthy. Stayed for 5 nights and during that time: hallways were not vacuumed, a pizza box remained under the ice machine, the lobby was dirty (food on the floor), housekeeping never came to our room (despite several requests), was charged for parking but there were not enough spaces and was told to park across the street, evening front desk staff was curt and rude. Need I go on? Most guests are here for medical treatment. You would think the hotel would have higher cleanliness standards. read more

We have stayed here many many times in years past but this will be our last. Very convenient to Mayo so that is a good thing but everything else, not so much. The carpet by the door in our room was almost black. Dust balls hanging off the popcorn ceiling and beds with mattresses that are 20 years past their prime that feel like you are sleeping on the springs. The worst I have ever slept on. The pool had actual trash in the bottom of it. Ripped up pieces of cardboard and I don't know what else. I was very disappointed. So many options in this town, pick another hotel! read more

Horrible experience here. Our tub was not drained. Once we got it drained, pubic hair was around the tub. Front desk was notified and we were promised it was to be cleaned. Nope. Then we had dirty corners, stains on the carpet and these beds didn't have no fitted sheet whatsoever!! What hotel don't have fitted sheets?! Never coming back here again. This was a good spot as our home base while at Mayo Clinic. We managed to arrive during below zero temps, with a wind chill in the NEGATIVE THIRTIES GOOD GOD WHAT PLANET IS THIS, and happily, most of our traversing was accomplished indoors. The Mayo Clinic, being a medical destination for visitors from far-off lands, is surrounded by hotels, and many are connected via indoor passageways. The room was fine. The bed was comfortable. The price was good (something like $75 nightly from hotwire.com). The people provided helpful, courteous service. The layout of the place is strange. We got lost easily, in the parking lot, and inside the hotel. It dawned on me that the building reminded me of a hospital layout, so I wonder if the premises once served as a medical facility of some sort. There was nothing unpleasant, but there was sort of an institutional feel. Now, it could be that I'm keen to these things, having worked in several hospitals. CB3, the on-site restaurant, is worth checking out. It was really good. There is a Caribou coffee downstairs as well. I would stay again for future Mayo trips, which we know are in our future. read more

I picked this hotel at random, I just needed a hotel that was nearby Mayo, reasonable price, and no roaches. That's all I wanted and being an Expedia member the price was in my range, so I booked it, as a book now pay at the hotel. I only needed a day stay, my partner had surgery and the next day they wanted to have a checkup. The hotel is super convenient having the skyway connected to Mayo and ahum FREE BREAKFAST! Free food is something I cherish, food is life and when its free well best believe I will be there. Checking in I had no issues with my booking, they found me in the system right away, no surprise charges either. I will say this the hotel kinda gives me a creepy vibe, I'm not sure if its haunted or maybe it's the old school 70's like feel, they do need to step that up, everything looks the same bland color that you can get lost because every floor looks identical, its kinda like a maze. To me it was because that day I checked in I forgot to take my Adderall and I was all over the place, freaking out. Our room was on the 3rd floor, and we got a double bedroom. They only had that option but whatever no biggie. The room was super clean, our room was like a mini studio kinda felt like a homie place which for me I can get homesick easily. The only thing I will complain would be the bathroom, THE FREAKING TOILET SEAT is soooo low to the ground that I felt like I was in some sort of kindergarten bathroom. The shower wasn't sparkling white, had this icky yellow look to it that I skipped my morning shower. The bed was clean as I can see, didn't find any surprises. The bed omg the best sleep I had in a while TMI I drooled that's how comfy I was, and I'm not a drooler. Like I said before free breakfast!! The breakfast was pretty legit they had the usual stuff waffles, eggs, bacon, fruit, bagels, bread, cereal, juices I can go on and on. The breakfast area is hard to find though. I believe it's on the second floor? Not sure the level but I know its in the pool, arcade area. It was frustrating smelling the food and following the smell of bacon and not finding the destination lol eventually I gave in and asked where in the world was this breakfast place. I can't say much I only stayed not even 24 hours but would I go back to the Hotel? Yes! I'm not much of a fancy, luxurious person when it comes to hotels. The only thing I ask for is clean, no bugs or anything that belongs outside and free breakfast, which Kahler Inn had what I wanted! Oh, and reasonable price if you use Expedia or some other service. For one night I paid $85, not sure if that's pricey or reasonable but I didn't mind it. FYI there is Kahler Inn and the Kaher Suites, I believe its called, which is the "fancy" version. I ended up going to Kahler Suites, and the front desk girl was pretty much a prude, not sure if she was having a bad day or she was born like that, bad impression. May have been a nice place 30 years ago but in need of a full remodel. Had to take a warm shower due to lack of hot water while cold air flowed through exhaust vent in bathroom. Since I have to visit the Mayo Clinic a couple of times a month, I usually stay at one of the sister hotels: The Kahler Grand Hotel or The Kahler Inn and Suites. The big benefit of these hotels is that they are connected via underground walkway to the Mayo Clinic complex of buildings. The Kahler Grand is literally right across the street, and the Kahler Inn and Suites is "kitty corner" to the Mayo building. Both buildings are undergoing aggressive remodeling, so there is a moderate amount of construction evident. The noise level is low to moderate. At one point I stayed in a hotel room that was near construction, and the room had an air purifier and hypo-allergenic bedding and towels. Considering their location, the price is good, particularly with the "Mayo Discount." BE SURE to ask for the Mayo Discount if you are going to the Mayo. Here is my gripe, and it is kind of a big one. I checked in at the front desk. They told me that the underground parking garage was full and I would need to park in overflow at the Graham Lot across the street. The Graham Lot is a nice facility, but no one explained to me how convoluted the tunnel system was, or recommended that I drop off my baggage first. There is a snowstorm on right now, so I decided to take the underground walkway (subway). I had substantial baggage, and I am here as a patient not a cross-country competitor. I went on a very extended trek through the underground maze to find the hotel. I don't blame them for needing to use overflow parking, but if someone checks in as a Mayo patient they should offer options for getting to the room. Just dropping off my baggage would have been huge. read more

For the location, price, service this hotel is an excellent choice for travelers visiting Mayo Clinc or Rochester, MN. The only reason for not 4 stars is this is the only place I've used my credit card in the last week and the next day my CC# was stolen. I'm not linking the two but who knows, I haven't ran a virus scanner on their computers so I'm not sure. However their rooms are basic budget hotel rooms, the beds are decent and pillows are squishy and they do give you a great nights sleep. The windows open, the bathrooms have excellent flushing haha, there is also a few choices for restaurants/coffee located inside the hotel. This hotel also connects to Mayo clinic through a tunnel and is walking distance to just about everything else downtown. They do have a parking garage if your parking, and if you need a cab ask the front desk to hail one for you. Even though the cab companies here suck badly and there is only like 2 in the entire city it feels like. This hotel is a great choice if you need a quick stay. No hairs on my bed, no dirty bathrooms, clean showers, and no smell. I did a deep search, good luck. read more

We stayed at this hotel twice because of its convenient location, hoping that the disgusting state of our room the first time was a fluke. Wrong. The first time, it was obvious that nothing had been wiped down, mopped, or vacuumed and there was crusty white substance splattered on the nightstand...............the second room we stayed in was coincidentally right next door to the first and was just as wretched. There was blood on the door, bathtub was filthy to the point where I scrubbed it myself before putting my sick child in it, and there was a thick layer of dust under the bed which we discovered while looking for a toy. The fixtures, walls, counters, floors... everything was filthy. We couldn't even sleep. The pool was incredibly basic, but the skylight would have been nice if it wasn't completely covered in dust and rotting ceiling tiles. You would think since they are mostly housing Mayo Clinic patients, they would at least wipe down high touch areas, but it was very obvious that they only (hopefully... maybe?) changed the sheets. The only nice thing I can say about this hotel was the friendly staff and convenient location. You couldn't pay me to stay here again. read more
