I left feeling much more relaxed, and my shoulder pain has improved, though it seems like it may need more focused treatment beyond just massage. I am finally getting around to update my review! After seeing my previous reviews, Kyra contacted me. She was extremely apologetic and said she didn't realize the magnitude of what had happened. That is understandable because I didn't want to make a big deal about it that day. I totally understand that mistakes happen and I didn't want to be a Karen about it. I didn't tell her that it was my birthday and that $20 wasn't going to cut it, I just politely declined. Kyra really wanted to make it up to me and when she reached out, she said that whenever I'm ready she'd offer me a full massage at no cost. We ended up booking it and let me tell you, it was the best massage I've ever gotten. As a free massage I was worried she would do it halfheartedly, and as a yelp elite, I was worried she'd do it with ulterior motives and ask me to change my review. Neither of these happened, so it was clear to me that she genuinely cares about her business and her customers and genuinely wanted me to have a really good experience. She really went above and beyond to ensure I was happy with my massage and she even got me a little cake to make up for my previous birthday mishap. I would highly recommend Kyra as a massage therapist and will definitely be going back. I am really glad I gave them an opportunity to make it right and sincerely believe our scheduling mishap was just a one-off mistake that does not reflect on the business and will not happen in the future. read more

I booked a massage with Tamara Moan, and it was one of the best massages I've ever had! I had never been to Kailua Massage Therapy, but based on all the 5-star reviews, I decided to give them a try. I booked online early in the morning for a 10am appt, and apparently they hadn't received my online appt. I called when I realized no one was there, and the owner immediately contacted the masseur and said she could be there in 10 min. Amazing! I completed initial paperwork and then my 60 min massage began. I indicated that I prefer medium pressure and that's exactly what I got from Tamara. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and my right knee was flaring up pretty badly, yet she knew exactly how to massage it and the rest of my body to ensure all the knots were taken out. I usually get a massage once a month, and I could tell that Tamara was a very experienced masseur. Her techniques flowed very smoothly and she was also very friendly and kind. The massage studio is located in a business building with metered street parking outside, so be sure to bring some quarters. If you don't have enough, the massage studio was able to change out $1 for me. I would highly recommend this massage studio, and be sure to ask for Tamara! You won't regret it. read more

While on vacation, my back was super sore and I needed a massage to release the pain so I could enjoy the rest of the trip. Was able to get a same day appointment for 90 minutes with Jenny (Jeni? Not sure of the spelling). During the massage, she mentioned her last name is also Jenny (not sure if that was a joke though). She isn't listed on their webpage but you should ask for her by name - she is amazing and I highly recommend her. Her technique for deep tissue massage is unique (I've been getting massages for years and have never experienced her particular style). It's hard to describe but she rapidly applies bursts of pressure to areas that are knotted up while you breathe in and hold your breath. Then you exhale and the tension releases. It wasn't painful or overly intense, and left me feeling like a whole new person at the end of my appointment. I cannot adequately express my gratitude to her for her skill in healing. I think her empathic abilities really help her tune into what's needed for her clients. She truly has a gift! Before our time on Oahu was over, decided to go back for another massage and unfortunately Jenny wasn't available. So I saw Kyra, who is listed on their webpage, for a 2 hour massage. The owner said she was one of her best so decided to give it a try massage therapists. While Krya was good and also very nice (she gave me some cool local recommendations of things to see in the area!), I didn't find that my back and neck pain were anywhere near as resolved when the appointment was over. When I scheduled the appointment with the owner, I asked for a deep tissue massage, but she was pushing more of a body scrub/exfoliation experience. I let Krya know that wasn't in need of exfoliation, and she did adjust the appointment to be a two hour full body massage. But perhaps this is not really her specialty? Bottom line is that I would recommend Kailua Massage Therapy, whether you're staying in Kailua or in Waikiki (it's just a 30 min drive). read more

I use to be a massage envy client but the pressure of racking up massages while trying to schedule an actual quality massage with a good masseuse that offered more than the generic Swedish light massage around my unpredictable schedule made it a headache. She was attentive and fully assessed my condition. I asked for a massage with lighter pressure than usual due to the pain. She focused on the mid back where the pain is located but also worked out the lower and upper back. She also helped me stretch and even recommended treatment that she didn't provide. I just have to start this off by saying this was honestly the best massage I have ever received in my entire life! It was a last minute decision but I really needed a same day massage. I called around to a few massage places in Kailua but KMT was the only one who had availability that same day. I saw all the good reviews on Yelp so I went ahead and booked a 90 minute session with Cristin. I was a competitive dancer for about 10 years, did gymnastics and aerial dance for 5 years so my body has been through a lot of wear and tear. I also have a pretty severe lower back injury that happened because of an accident in gymnastics. I've seen a lot of massage therapists but have never had one as caring, thorough, and sweet as Cristin at KMT! Before we started she asked a lot of questions about my injury, how I got it, what my day to day job is, what types of exercises I am able to do regularly, etc. I've never really had a massage therapist be as in depth as her, which was super reassuring. She made me feel extremely comfortable and was very knowledgeable about the specific injury I have and kind of talked me through what she was going to do during the massage. Throughout the massage she continually checked to make sure that I was feeling ok, that the pressure was good, or if I needed anything. The massage itself was wonderful! She didn't just focus on the area that was hurting she also worked out the supporting areas to ensure long term relief/relaxation. Altogether it was an incredible experience, this is the first time in a long time that I've felt this level of pain relief. It was also pretty cheap, $95 for 90min, you can't really beat that. I already have another appointment set up in a few weeks and I can barely wait! So if you're looking for an amazing massage place I strongly recommend KMT especially Cristin! During my last day of vacation I had some time to kill before my flight and initially wanted to do a reiki session + massage. I knew it was a long shot for same day appt but the owner (I think) squeezed me in with Jenei and I'll forever wish she lived in LA. I don't think I could ever find something as magical as this experience. She incorporated healing into this massage and did a chakra cleanse. I have had very stubborn knots and stiffness in one area for YEARS, no one was able to get them out until I met Jenei. So grateful for that day and entire experience. I am trying to be mindful of my inherent wickedness so as to be true to the spirit of the season: if you are in pain...any pain...or are wrecked...come see Krissy. She is amazing. Truly amazing. I came here through a referral from my Occupational Therapist at Straub who was working on rehabbing my shoulder after surgery. I wanted to get back into the canoe, and I knew I had to work really hard to do it...Krissy was a key piece of the treatment plan. She kept me together, working out the kinks in muscles I didn't know I had (just how many muscles does it take to paddle?) over a difficult year. She is reasonable (or the cost of her services), pleasant and super smart....she has trained under amazing kumu, and that comes across when she is working your muscles out. She is strong (i like my massages deep tissue..) but has never bruised me or made me ache in different places (Ho'onani Spa...that is NOT the place to get a massage) and I have never felt that slight nausea one can experience after deep tissue massages, with her. Best of all, there is no creepiness, or chattiness or random weirdness...and she doesn't even laugh when I unintentially fall asleep and snort (at least I don't fart...)! She is amazing technically and she is amazing spiritually...ok bear with me here, i know this sounds new agey and I am SO not...something about picking your massage guy/gal...you don't want their drama and spooge to stick to you...you want them to be strong and clear of mind and soul because you are in such a vulnerable position...she is that person...she is super cool and totally talented. and I beg of you Yelpers..please....make sure you save room on her calendar for me! read more

I just want to say thank you to all you Yelpers that wrote about this amazing little spot in Kailua. I've been having neck, shoulder, and headaches for the last 3-4 month and I went to see my Dr. on 2 different occasions. I was given muscle relaxers, and narcotics to deal with the pain. Unfortunately my body doesn't respond well to these types of medication (nausea) etc. Plus! I don't want to be on meds and unable to function... I found Kailua Massage Therapy on Yelp and read awesome reviews and the common name that I saw was MARY. So I booked an appointment. She is amazing! I got a 1 hour massage for $65.00, TOTALLY worth it. I told her the issues that I was having and she went right to work and it was like my muscles were talking to her because she knew exactly where to apply pressure or back up on pressure. I walked out of there sooooooooooo much more flexible and TIRED. I went straight home and took the best 3 hour nap I've had in months. I recommend her completely! According to other yelpers there are other amazing Therapists there, but I can't speak on them, I can only assume that they are great too. I plan to see MARY 1-2 times a month more if I can swing it. She spoke just the right amount and I felt completely relaxed there. Seriously one of the best massages I've had in years! MARY is just amazing! I came here last weekend on recommendation of my hubs. He made an appt for me to see Lume, and promised she had magical hands to help me relax and get all my knots out. Making the appt was easy, and finding the location was too. Lume was ready when I arrived and got immediately to work. Soooo....I don't know if I am just SO knotty, that anyone trying to rub my muscles would have hurt, or that's just Lume, but this wasn't a great massage. It felt clinical, I like a more intuitive massage; someone who feels my back, locates the trouble areas, and then works them. This just felt like going through the motions of training and it wasn't really even. The worst part was the head massage when it just felt like my hair was being ripped out. Lume, however, is very kind and lovely. I think the issue was just we're not a match when it comes to her style and what type of massage I prefer. Cathilyn has the most beautiful energy. I go into a trance like state from her amazing massages. She is very intuitive with her pressure application. She integrates lomi lomi and different strokes to release tension, stretch tight muscles and heal. I always feel so well taken care of when I am in her hands. I have sent my son and husband to her also. My husband is a big guy and needs a lot of pressure and he was amazed at her strength, but in a therapeutic way. FABULOUS EVERY TIME! Yesterday during paddling practice, my shoulder was in so much pain I was almost in tears! I have a race coming up next weekend and wanted to be sure I was in top shape. I hadn't been to see Kristen Chir Ramback at Kailua Massage Therapy in a while but thought I would give her a call. I knew if anyone could help me it would be her! Thank God that there was a last minute cancellation and she was able to get me in the very next morning. The room is so relaxing I immediately felt relieved to just be there. Once she started working on my shoulder I realized how much I missed getting regular massages from Krissy! With one kid in college and one at Punahou, something has to give and unfortunately taking care of me often takes a back seat! I love deep-tissue and Krissy applies the perfect amount of pressure, never too much! She has very soothing and healing hands, I feel as if she is actually removing all the "ick" that the stresses of everyday life (and paddling) leave behind. She flows through the massage seamlessly and I always feel like the time flies by. Because my shoulders were bothering me she spent extra time on them and even relieved the tension down my arms, wrists and hands which was heavenly! Mary McHugh is amazing. Nuf said. I've had plenty of massages over the years from many different cities, but she is truly the best! About $60 for 1 hr massage. I was in a car accident and walked away with only sore muscles, but man were they sore! She worked on my back and neck, and by the time she was done, I had full range of motion again in my neck! The muscles "talk" to her and she knows exactly how deep the massage should be, and where to focus. She does all kinds of massage, including pregnancy and gerontology. The space is clean and quiet, and the bed is just soft enough to be comfortable, but not so soft you have trouble moving around. You can park in the meter lot and it's right there. read more
